Shocking Freezer Burn

It was a beautifully sunny day as Manfred Colburn was walking along the street of his hometown. Not that he would care about the weather, though.
The only thing that was on his mind were the parts he had to get to finish his newest invention - a self-turning frying pan.
And he knew just where to get them.
As he continued on his path, he wasn't paying much attention to his surroundings, his mind focussing inwards on intricate mechanisms and new possibilities.
While that certainly heightened the danger of bumping into other people, noone had been too mad before and if things would get serious, he could just use his powers and then blame it on the taser he was keeping in a pocket of his jacket.
Little would he know about the adventure of his life, that was about to start, a tale of happiness and sadness, rage and calmness, hate and forgiveness.

The story of fire, lightning and ice...

Manfred's sleep was relatively normal for him. There were a lot of patterns ad ideas floating around in his head, mostly impossible, though a few of them might even be usable. There were mathematical symbols and equations everywhere, forming a web of possibilities. And in the middle of all this, there was his current situation, his own mind frantically trying to deconstruct it into logic and mathematics.
However, as soon as he would wake up again, he would already have forgotten the entirety of the dream again...

Allegra woke surprisingly early for once, her blue eyes blinking open to discover the other three still asleep. The platinum blonde sat up, rubbing her tired eyes. Sitting for a while in silence, Allegra decided not to wake the others and let them sleep, instead turning her attention to her icy powers. She hadn't realised until just now, but a layer of frost had developed on the rugs and on her blankets during the night, and she stared at it with a worried look on her face. She needed to learn how to control the frost. If the others hadn't been sleeping so far away from her, they might have gotten ill during the night...

Sighing quietly, Allegra bunched the frosty blanket around herself and turned so that she was facing the corner of the room. Sitting with her head and left side of her body leaning against the one wall, Allegra attempted to form ice again. Even using little hand movements didn't have much effect though as her thoughts were otherwise occupied with guilt and fear. She could only produce little wisps of icy, glittering winds as she realised she could have hurt someone by bringing them here and letting them sleep in the same room as her.

Lily woke up to see Allegra in a corner, Manfred floating in the air above some coins, and Catherine over in the far side of the room away from everyone else. Lily noticed that Allegra was awake though, "What are you doing in the corner? Catherine sits in the corner like that sometimes but she never tells me why" she asked.
Catherine meanwhile, was awake even though she didn't appear to be. She was shivering, but not from cold, but because of the nightmares. She had relived the painful experience of watching her parent's lives be taken right before her eyes.

Manfred awoke to see the same room he went to sleep in, with the same people in it. So it wasn't a dream...
And then he saw her again. The sight of the mental horror and anguish, known under the alias of "Lily" caused his mind to review all the humiliation and idiocy he had to endure yesterday. All at the same time.
The resulting shock almost caused him to accidentally destroy the delicate balance of electromagnetism, that was keeping him afloat. Having regained his balance, he carefully lowered himself onto the ground, picked up the coins and sat down on the ground. He wasn't in the mood for conversation at all.
Especially not with Lily.

Allegra blinked, turning to glance at Lily as she began speaking to her. She then turned back to what she was doing, the thin wisps of cold air seemingly growing into frost as it glided over the walls, freezing frosty patterns into the brick.
"Nothing...." replied Allegra, stopping what she was doing and getting to her feet, the blankets slipping from her shoulders and pooling on the ground at her feet, "Do how was everyone's sleep?" she asked quietly.

"Cat looks like she's still asleep and I slept fine, what about you and Naruto?" Lily asked. She sat on the ground a bit far from Catherine and Manfred. After a silence Lily spoke, "You know...i'm worried about Catherine..."
Catherine finally made herself stop shivering. She kept her breath calm in case someone decided to study it and find out that she wasn't asleep. She hated to eavesdrop, but she didn't think she was completely calm yet and would only stutter and shake and most likely begin bawling again.

"I'm as okay as the circumstances allow it, I guess, but yeah, what's up with her?"
Manfred was quite surprised, that Lily had actually managed not to be completely and utterly braindead, although it still didn't make up for what he previously had to endure.
"She seems troubled..."

"I slept fine," blinked Allegra, "And I can't really comment on your friend as i've only known the three of you for a day... less than that really."
Allegra sighed and moved over to the smaller wooden crate that was by the doorway. Closing her eyes she paused, letting herself to focus without the distraction of sight. She held her hands over the frozen bowl of currency and with a breath outwards, she moved her hands to either side, curving around the bowl. The ice disappeared into smaller particles and Allegra's eyes blinked open, frowning at the particles and flicking them away, scattering them onto the floor nearby.

"Okay then," blinked Allegra, turning back to the others and grinning, "How about we get Catherine up and head to the surface and grab some breakfast?"
Her mood had taken a turn for the better now that she had completed a successful transfiguration with her icy abilities.

Lily pouted when Allegra spoke, but she spoke, "That's fine I guess. Then we can go search for some crime and become famous..." Lily spoke as if it were no choice. She stood up and nudged Catherine with her foot before heading towards the door. This time she waited a bit and checked by looking both ways before hopping out onto the tracks. She waited for the others on the tracks.

Catherine felt herself be nudged and acted as if she had just woken up. She looked up to find herself alone with the two older teens and scurried to catch up with Lily without saying a word, still not trusting herself to speak yet.

"You? What are you going to do? The only thing you have done so far is to drag us all into this. Why should you become famous? And by the way,...should the government learn of our powers, they will probably dissect us or something. So NO, we are not becoming famous. You don't even have any powers, so the only thing you'd do at a crime scene would be standing in our way, putting you at severe risk of getting killed."
What was that girl thinking? Manfred would probably never understand. And the more he saw and heard, the less he wanted to understand.
"But I have to agree with you there, Allegra. That's probably the best we can do for the moment."

Allegra did nothing but remain silent as Manfred spoke. To be perfectly honest she couldn't help but agree with him. Though being famous and not having to pickpocket in order to get any money was a nice thought, the reality was that most humans feared what they didn't understand. Instead of being welcomed as crime fighters they would likely be shunned as illegal and destructive vigilantes.

Allegra nodded to Manfred before stepping out of the door. She waited for him to step past her before she pulled the door closed behind her and lead the way back up the tunnel.

Manfred stepped out of the door behind Allegra and followed her through the tunnel. On their way, he decided to study the subway's power supply and connected systems. One never knew, when knowledge like that might come in handy. Should those gangsters find them for example, he might be able to do a few things with the cables and backup generators. After all, they currently needed every advantage they could get.

After climbing back up onto the station platform, Allegra lead the way out and back up onto the city streets. Picking a cafe that was positioned close by, she wandered over and entered the building.
"Alright guys, pick a table I guess. What do you want for breakfast?"

"I'm not much of a breakfast person so I'll pass. Cat most likely wants sausage, right Cat?" Lily was leaning back on her chair while sipping her soda from a straw. She seemed to be lost in thought as she gazed at the sky.
Catherine gave a nervous nod, she still wasn't comfortable around the other two just yet and the dream from the previous night haunted her more than usual. She couldn't understand why she couldn't just shove it out of her head like it usually did...

"I think I'll just have a pretzel.", Manfred commented.
"While I'm not too much of a breakfast fan as it takes time, the nutrition can increase one's mental capacities for the day if one's name isn't Lily."
Manfred still didn't like his situation, but his relationship to the others had improved.
To Catherine and Allegra at least.
If Lily wasn't going to shut up soon, Manfred might have to take care of that himself. As an inventor, he usually carried duct tape around.
