With The Odds Against You

Lumina, you've just been full of bright ideas lately, haven't you.

Her own thought dryly chastised her as the six-tailed fox stood outside the entrance to Serene Cave. Despite the guild badge, treasure bag and wonder map poking out of the before mentioned bag, she wasn't here on a mission. No, she had decided to give herself a small break from her guild work.

She was here for something else. To grow stronger. To satisfy her curiosity. To come where she hadn't come before, in an attempt to learn about the world around her. Or maybe she was just here to entertain herself. What could she say, she enjoyed a good challenge now and then. Most likely, it was a little bit of all these reasons combined.

Her head held high, the Vulpix stood outside the cave regally, her ears perked attentively. She stepped inside, the cool air inside replacing the warmth that the sun left on her fur, and for some reason she couldn't quite explain, this gave Lumina a chill down her spine.

The Noibat flicked one of her ears, the sudden sound of footsteps disturbing her. She let out a soft hiss as she heard the noise, trying to cover her large, circular ears. She came this far into the cave just trying to find some peace and quiet, and so of course, it would only be her luck that two others had to arrive here, too. Fiddling around with the piece of candy she had found before, she glared at the two of them, her yellow eyes piercing through the darkness.

"What was that...?" Lumina murmured upon hearing a soft hissing sound. Something else had heard it, too, a large Swoobat that was hanging above them. Seemingly disturbed by the sound that had awoken it, it fell from it's perch on the cave's ceiling, flapping it's wings rapidly as it clumsily struggled to hover in the air. Unluckily enough, it was hostile. It looked over at Noel, and tried to hit the Riolu with a weak physic pulse, using Confusion.

Noel ducks out of the way of the weak psychic attack she always hated those types of moves she always needed her aura sense to even dodge them and even then it was hard as Noel jumps on the caves ceiling and then kicked the Pokemon down and looked at lumina "the Swoobat is right in front of you take em out" she says not knowing if lumina could see him

Lumina couldn't see the Swoobat very well, but she could hear it's unsteady, rapid wing beats perfectly fine. She used Fire Spin, summoning up a vortex of flames that pulled the Swoobat towards it, effectively trapping it. But that hardly stopped it from attacking her. It let out a harsh, rage-filled screech and used Confusion once more, this time aiming it at the Vulpix. The invisible psychic force hit her and she stumbled back dizzily.

Meanwhile, the Noibat hissed once more. All this noise, it was hurting her extra-sensitive ears. And then out of the blue, a light erupted in the middle of her cave, and that was the last straw. "Can't you guys go have your little battle somewhere else?!" She snapped angrily, once more trying, and failing, to cover her ears.

Noel was still on the roof of the cave and then seeing a opportunity jumped over and smashed the bat right in the head she then placed her feet on the Pokemon and kicked it jumping up back to the top of the cave to bat stumbles in the air for a bit then collapses as Noel wanted to get out of the ring of fire as fast as possible and jumped over to lumina "you ok" she asks her friend.

"We are very sorry but we had to get past him and as you saw he was giving us no other options" Noel says to the noibat not really wanting to fight something again she felt tired and her senses were giving out

"Hmph... just bug off." The small bat replied as the Fire Spin died down, once more bringing darkness to the cave. With the light gone, her mood seemed to improve, if only slightly. "There are some items just a little bit deeper in the cave that belong to the Swoobat. Do me a favour and take 'em, someone needs to teach that guy a lesson for always being so loud." With that, she flew off, off to find another part of the cave that was a bit quieter.

Noel turned to lumina "well she seemed like a bundle of joy" she says with a shrug as she looks over to some items nothing really that good as Noel walks over she did notice a scarf but other then that there was nothing of real importance "you want any of this stuff?" Noel asks looking at lumina

"I'll pass. I'd rather not steal." Lumina huffed, annoyed at the Noibat's attitude. Sure, the Swoobat was feral, but these were still it's things. ... unless it had stolen them in the first place, but that was something the Vulpix couldn't be sure of. "You can take something if you like, but none of this seems especially valuable anyways."

Noel shrugged stealing wasn't really something she liked to do unless this was already stolen but she just mentally shrugged and walked past the items "come on let's go" she says waiting for lumina so she could lead her through the darkness

Satisfied that Noel seemed to have reached the same conclusion she had, the Fox Pokemon nodded, ready to keep going. She yawned, briefly pausing to stretch her legs, but otherwise voiced no complaints. "I'm ready whenever." She murmured, looking back at Noel's blurry shape in the darkness. She wasn't going to be beating herself up over burning that torch, it probably would've run out by now, anyways.

Noel started to just stand the exit was quite far away from where they were and she was starting to get tired but voicing no real objects just yawns and starts to walk again this cave was LONG

The Vulpix's eyelids felt heavy, her head held down and her paws dragging against the ground. She hadn't noticed how tired she was during that battle with the Swoobat, but she really didn't want to have another fight. "Maybe we should stop for a while. Do you want to rest, Noel?" She wondered. She did have the vague fear of having another nightmare, but so what if she did? She would just have to live with it.

Noel looks at lumina and nods but remembering that the cave was dark she slightly felt like a idiot as she started talking "ya I guess some rest is good I'll try to find another cave" Noel was as she starts to scout around the area as she comes across a large cave smaller then the one before but still quite big and she noticed another big rock not enough to cover the cave but it would serve well as a door as she went over to lumina "I found another cave"

"Good." She replied, not before yawning once more. She followed after Noel, noticing the sound of the Riolu's footsteps, despite her lack of light. With her paws dragging on the ground, she accidently cut one of her back paws on a sharp stone, causing her to give off a surprised yelp. She glared at the rock, which was now somewhere behind her, having a hard time telling how serious the cut would be in the darkness. "I'm fine. Just tripped on something." She muttered, not wanting the Riolu to worry about what was probably just a scrape.

Noel was walking along as she hears lumina yelp she was about to ask if she was ok but she quickly had her fear dismissed as lumina said she was fine trusting in her friends opinion but deciding the add something "good" Noel said with a sigh of relief she didn't like seeing others get hurt before her eyes but she quickly stopped thinking and walked into the cave

Lumina followed after Noel, padding into what was presumably this cave she spoke about. Her back paw protested every time she put pressure on it, so she tried to avoid using it, not wanting the Riolu to be alarmed. She slumped against the wall of the cave they had found and blinked, trying to make out the wound in the darkness. "I'll keep guard for the first few hours, alright?" She offered. This way, she could treat her paw while Noel was asleep and hopefully buy herself a few hours before risking another bad dream.
