A Hoenn Adventure

Cassidy woke up to the sound of her rather loud Taillow alarm. The clock was a plain pale blue other than the Taillow model situated on top of it. The alarm continued to play the recorded "Taillow! Taillow!" call until Cassy rolled over and turned it off, looking at the time as she did so.
It was 6:30am and Cass was about to go back to sleep when she realised what the day was. She practically threw the quilt off herself as she leaped out of bed, stretching her arms. She went over to her window and threw open the curtains before opening the windows themselves to let in the fresh air.

After taking a quick shower to freshen up, Cassidy went back into her room to get changed. Sifting through her drawers, she picked out a shirt that was white with orange stripes. To go with it, she picked out a pair of pale peach coloured three quarter length trousers and a pale blue coat. Once she was dressed, she brushed her dark red hair and dug underneath her bed for her bag.
The bag was a simple, grey-blue shoulder bag but it was roomy and would likely hold all of what she would need to take with her.

Once she had packed everything she was going to take with her, she put her shoes on, grabbed her dark blue scarf and left a note in the kitchen for her parents when they woke up. She headed out at 7:30.

Cassidy didn't have to meet the Professor in his laboratory until about 10:00, so she spent the next few hours just outside of Littleroot Town, watching the world go by. She sat with her sketch book in her lap and her pencils and watercolours in one pocket of her bag. The route however, seemed to be deserted. There were no Pokemon to draw and she was so familiar with Route 101 now that she could draw every blade of grass without looking.

After a long while of sitting silently Cas gathered her things with a sigh and headed back into Town. She wandered down the street on her way to her friend Celeste's house. Surely she would be up and about by now. It was nearly 9:30 after all. Only half an hour to go until they could meet their new Pokemon!

Celeste looked down at the peculiar Wurmple. "I've never heard about Pokemon with strange colorings.." Her brow furrowed.

She shrugged and stopped her scrutiny of the purple Pokemon. "Yeah I caught something!" She grinned brilliantly and grabbed Ace's Pokeball. She let the Wingull out and he let out a somewhat tired chirp and flew about a bit.

"Isn't he cool!? He's called a Wingull and he's part water part flying. I told you water types were the coolest~"

"He's awesome!" she grinned, registering the species on her Pokedex. Even the purple Wurmple looked up in awe.
"Wurmple...(I want to fly...)" she sighed sadly.

Cassidy gently picked up the purple Wurmple, returning her to her Pokeball.
"Well anyhow. I want to ask Prof Birch what he knows." She let Twayblade back out of her Pokeball as she spoke.

The Treecko stretched her arms before crossing them and looking up at the Wingull.

Celeste returned Ace to his Pokeball in order to let the Wingull rest. "Yeah, let's head back to Oldale and use those weird things in the Pokecenter." Celeste's description was rather accurate if you were from Littleroot. Not too much exciting technology there. Except for in Prof. Birch's laboratory, of course.

Doro reclaimed his spot after having given Ace the evil eye for a few minutes without even blinking. Honestly it was kind of creepy.

Twayblade returned to her shoulder perch and then Cassidy was off. She didn't run, be she walked at a fast pace pack towards Oldale.

It didn't take long to reach the Pokemon Centre as they knew the way. Cas headed straight over to the video call machine things and looked at them, trying to work out how they worked.
"Hey Celeste. How do you turn this thing on?"

"Uhmm.. I recommend the power button." Celeste replied oh-so-helpfully. Doro rolled his eyes from his perch. "AHA!" Celeste screeched (Which gained her peculiar looks from everyone in the building) and punched a button on the side of the screen.

The screen sprang into life and Cassidy punched in the number for Professor Birch's laboratory. It didn't take him long to answer.

"Oh hey Cassidy, Celeste!" he grinned as their faces appeared on the screen, "What could possibly cause you to call me so early in the day?"

"I hope we're not disturbing you, but we had some questions to ask about oddly coloured Pokemon," began Cas after a cheerful greeting. Once again she reached for the purple Wurmple's Pokeball, Twayblade watching her from her perch.

When the Wurmple was out of her Pokeball, Cassidy held her up to the screen so that Professor Birch could see her.

"I caught her on Route 103. I'm confused as to why she's purple in colour instead of red..."

Celeste looked just as bewildered as Cassidy, but she threw in her own greetings of "Hey Birchy~" and a wicked grin.

"So, got any knowledge on strangely colored Pokemon?"

Professor Birch appeared awestruck. "That's fantastic! So early on in the adventure...I've only seen this a handful of times..Astounding!" He began mumbling to himself in wonder.

"Erm. Professor?" Celeste raised a finger and an eyebrow.

"Oh! Right! That, girls, is what we experts have come to call a Shiny Pokemon. We have yet to find the reason for their peculiar coloring. It appears very rare and it's extraordinary that you've found one! Good job, girls!" Birch praised them with a warm smile.

"Thats fantastic!" Professor Birch had said. Cassidy's reaction had been a confused one as he went on to say he'd only seen it a handful of times.

"A shiny Pokemon...?"
She held up the Wurmple and looked at her before drawing her in again and cuddlin it next to her chest.

"So these shiny Pokemon are really rare then..? Like.. how rare?" she asked.

"So rare that one may only hope to see one in the wild themselves only once if that." Professor Birch still appeared astounded. He looked upon the Wurmple fondly. "I have been lucky enough to find trainers who catch the shiny Pokemon for me. I have never had the time to go out and look for a shiny Pokemon myself."

Celeste's eyebrows shot up. "That's...Awesome! Wow no fair Cas. You always gotta outdo me huh?" She said this sarcastically and laughed. "Now poor old Ace doesn't seem as cool."

The Pokeball on Celeste's belt wiggled a bit, as if Ace had heard and wasn't very happy with that statement. Celeste grinned affectionately at the ball.

Cassidy laughed and hugged the little Wurmple.
"I had no idea you were so special," she chuckled before suddenly realising she hadn't given her a name. She had originally planned to release the Wurmple after conferring with professor Birch... but now she didn't want to lose something that was so rare and precious. Besides, she was sure that Ditrysia would enjoy the playmate.

"I think I'll name you.. Shiruva," she smiled, "Welcome to the team Shiru!" The purple Wurmple made a cheerful "Wurm!" noise at the new name.

Cas turned back to the screen and thanked the Professor for his help, promising him that she would keep him updated on the Shiny Pokemon's progress.

Still grinning over the discovery she turned to Celeste, "So where to now?"

Celeste thought for a moment. "Well, we can't cross route 103 because we would need some sort of mechanism to cross the water there. However, we can take route 102 over to Petalburg." Celeste had pored over her map for the better part of an hour whilst being bored in town earlier. She said so once she had received a strange look for suddenly knowing so much about navigation.

"Okay then. Route 102 it is!" grinned Cassidy, still carrying Shiru. Twayblade watched the young Wurmple with a look of curiosity on her face, however she soon switched her attention at the mention of moving on.

Cassidy wandered along the streets of Oldale Town as they headed for Route 102. She still couldn't believe that she had found a Pokemon this rare so early on in her journey.

Celeste let Ace out of his Pokeball, figuring it probably wasn't much fun to be stuck inside while everyone else was out. Ace shot out of the ball with a bright trill of happiness. He was much more energetic now that he had been healed and he took to flying straight up and then coming back down in great looping spirals. When he bored of this, he landed on Celeste's shoulder and began prodding Doro.

"Mud! Mudkip! (What!? I'm trying to sleep!)" Doro snapped, not a very happy Mudkip it seemed.

"Winguull! (C'mon! Talk to me!)" Ace began chattering incessantly and Doro groaned and clamped his paws over his ears.

Celeste laughed.

On Route 102, Cassidy also let Ditrysia out of her Pokeball and decided to let the two Wurmple bond whilst she and Twayblade got in some training. A few paces away from the Wurmple, Cas began scanning the area for any wild Pokemon.

She soon saw a Seedot not far away. She scanned it on the Pokedex.
Seedot, the Acorn Pokémon. Seedot resembles an acorn when hanging by its head from branches. It jumps down suddenly to the surprise of passers by.

"Interesting," she mused before turning to her Treecko, "Twayblade use Pound!"

Twayblade literally leaped into action, landing in front of the Seedot and flipping around, hitting it with her tail. The Seedot however, recovered quickly and used Bide.

"Dragonbreath!" yelled Cassidy. This was the first time Cas had asked Twayblade to use her Dragonbreath move as she hadn't been entirely sure how powerful it would be. She was worried that it might just overwhelm some of the weaker wild Pokemon.

Twayblade kept the Dragonbreath as a small wisp of power as she hit the Seedot. It was knocked out but recovered a few moments later and scurried off into the undergrowth.

Celeste walked about, deciding to train Ace while she had the chance. There was no point rushing to the next city when there were plenty of sights to be beheld on the journey. "Alright Ace! Let's get to work!" She plunged into a patch of grass.

She immediately encountered a large amount of Poochyena, Zigzagoon, and Wurmple. After a few well timed Water guns and growls, Celeste was getting a bit tired of the same Pokemon species. "Uuurgh. Ace! Go fly around over head and find a new kind of Pokemon, okay?" Celeste grinned brightly up at the Wingull circling overhead. He chirped and flew higher.

When Ace came back, Celeste was poring over the map again out of boredom. Ace let out a caw and landed in front of her. He tugged on her hand with his beak and led her to a patch of grass.
