A Hoenn Adventure

Cassidy woke up to the sound of her rather loud Taillow alarm. The clock was a plain pale blue other than the Taillow model situated on top of it. The alarm continued to play the recorded "Taillow! Taillow!" call until Cassy rolled over and turned it off, looking at the time as she did so.
It was 6:30am and Cass was about to go back to sleep when she realised what the day was. She practically threw the quilt off herself as she leaped out of bed, stretching her arms. She went over to her window and threw open the curtains before opening the windows themselves to let in the fresh air.

After taking a quick shower to freshen up, Cassidy went back into her room to get changed. Sifting through her drawers, she picked out a shirt that was white with orange stripes. To go with it, she picked out a pair of pale peach coloured three quarter length trousers and a pale blue coat. Once she was dressed, she brushed her dark red hair and dug underneath her bed for her bag.
The bag was a simple, grey-blue shoulder bag but it was roomy and would likely hold all of what she would need to take with her.

Once she had packed everything she was going to take with her, she put her shoes on, grabbed her dark blue scarf and left a note in the kitchen for her parents when they woke up. She headed out at 7:30.

Cassidy didn't have to meet the Professor in his laboratory until about 10:00, so she spent the next few hours just outside of Littleroot Town, watching the world go by. She sat with her sketch book in her lap and her pencils and watercolours in one pocket of her bag. The route however, seemed to be deserted. There were no Pokemon to draw and she was so familiar with Route 101 now that she could draw every blade of grass without looking.

After a long while of sitting silently Cas gathered her things with a sigh and headed back into Town. She wandered down the street on her way to her friend Celeste's house. Surely she would be up and about by now. It was nearly 9:30 after all. Only half an hour to go until they could meet their new Pokemon!

"Use Absorb!" yelled Cassidy, eager to get this battle over. After this she still had one more Pokemon to fight before she could claim her badge.

The Beautifly fluttered back up into the air, the Uproar attack having done some damage. From where she hovered, green tendrils stretched from her wings. They wrapped around the Spinda, draining it of it's energy.

The Spinda wobbled about, whimpering until it finally keeled over. Norman appeared surprised. "Good work, trainer! Return." He pulled the Spinda back into its Pokeball and pulled out another ball. "Go, Vigoroth!" From the ball emerged a white ape-like creature with a pinkish-red tuft of fur on its forehead.

Celeste's eyebrows raised as she looked over the unknown Pokemon. She scanned it with her Pokedex as she had the Spinda and read over the information with interest.

"My name's Cassidy," she grinned as she returned her Beautifly as well.
"Good work Ditri," she smiled before grabbing Twayblade's Pokeball.

Norman had sent out a Vigoroth, according to her Pokedex. She frowned and wondered what it was capable of. She threw the Pokeball into the air and Twayblade materialised in front of her.
"Use Pound!"

"Tree."
The Treecko nodded once before charging towards the Vigoroth. When she was close, she flipped around, hitting him with her tail.

Norman was unprepared for the speed of the Treecko, and his frown deepened as his Vigoroth took damage. "Body Slam, Vigoroth! While she's close!"

The Vigoroth hurled itself towards the Treecko in the hopes that in their close proximity, she would be unable to dodge.

Celeste watched the battle with wide eyes, taking in each and every move with great curiosity. Her Pokemon were doing the same, some wincing and others grinning when hits were landed.

"Backflip!"
The Treecko propelled herself off of the ground with her hind paws and gracefully flipped out of the way of the Body Slam move. After doing a spin in the air Twayblade positioned her front paws to push herself back up in the air so that she could steady herself land neatly in a standing position.

Cassidy grinned. She had been saving that move after they had practised it in a few of the wild battles on Route 102. She hoped it would come in handy in her future contests.

"Use Absorb!" she commanded, trying to take advantage of the moment.

From her standing position, Twayblade released two green beams from her paws. The headed towards the Vigoroth, intending to tangle it in its web and begin Absorbing his strength.

Norman shouted at his Vigoroth to move quickly, but the Ape-like Pokemon was entranced by the green lights. However, they grew less appealing once he was wrapping in them and they were draining his health.

Norman bit his lip. "Alright, Vigoroth! Uproar!" He instructed his Pokemon with as much skill and poise as ever, having learned that the calmer the trainer, the calmer the Pokemon.

The Vigoroth let out an indignant screech as he was drained, but kept his cool, using his Uproar attack.

Celeste winced and covered her ears, the Pokemon's shrill attack reaching all the way to where she sat.

Cassidy also had the sense to cover her ears but Twayblade kept on with the Absorb attack, taking the Vigoroth's energy and adding it to her own. However, the load Uproar soon got to her and she broke of the Absorb to cover her own ears. The green tendrils shattered and the remaining energy appeared to be transformed into little golden sparkles. They too soon disappeared from the air. If this had been a contest battle, it would have looked beautiful, but Norman would have probably gotten the points for disrupting the Absorb.

Cas frowned. She had to think about battles right now. Not contests.

"Pound again!"

The Treecko nodded, uncovering her ears to run back towards the Vigoroth and use Pound again.

Norman's frown lightened a bit when the absorb attack shattered. He too was entranced for a moment by the beauty of the attack, but soon snapped out of it. "Quick, Body Slam!"

The Vigoroth stood still as the speedy Treecko dashed towards him. When the grass Pokemon got close, he used Body Slam, flinging himself towards her.

Celeste grinned in awe at the absorb attack and found herself marveling at the amazing battle that was unfolding.

As the Vigoroth used Body Slam, Twayblade flipped around and used her tail in another Pound attack, thus countering the move. Cassidy waited with bated breath to see the outcome.

Twayblade was still standing. The Treecko stood with her arms crossed waiting for the dust to clear, she had a feeling that this Vigoroth had more to him than this.

Emerging from the dust after another command issued by Norman was the Vigoroth. He dashed forwards in yet another Body Slam attack, seeming more determined than ever to land a hit. Norman narrowed his eyes and waited with bated breath to see the outcome of his Pokemon's attack.

Celeste leaned forwards in her seat, her Pokemon doing the same. This only caused Doro to fall off of Celeste's head, and Ace to tumble off of the bench. She snickered at them before clapping a hand over her mouth and looking apologetic for interrupting the tense silence.

"Dragonbreath!"
The name of the move had been on Cassidy's tongue the entire time whilst the dust had settled. Twayblade quickly responded as the Vigoroth got closer. She uncrossed her arms and her jaws parted, releasing a large light blue beam of draconic power.

The Vigoroth flew backwards in an attempt to avoid the bluish dust. He didn't succeed and was met full on with the attack. He wheezed and stumbled backwards, clutching his side. He looked to Norman.

Norman appeared worried for his Pokemon, but continued the battle. He wasn't going to give up! "Vigoroth, Scratch!"

The Vigoroth dashed towards Twayblade, claws outstretched.

"Quick Attack!"

"Treecko!"
Twayblade quickly rushed forwards, the burst of white energy trailing behind her only adding to her already very high speed stat. The Treecko headed straight for the Vigoroth, not taking the Scratch move into account. With the speed of Quick Attack, she could easily dodge it.

The force of the Quick Attack was too much for the Vigoroth. As he was hit, he flew backwards and landed with a loud thump. He made no move after this.

Norman walked up to the Vigoroth and petted it lovingly. He returned it to its Pokeball and turned to Cassidy. "Very well done, Cassidy. You show great promise and you have earned this." He held out a badge that was gray in color and appeared to be two circles connected by a diagonal line.

He turned to Celeste. "It appears that it's your turn, challenger."

Celeste hopped up and grinned. "I'm Celeste." She beckoned to Doro and Halcyon and left Ace and Deluge sitting on the bench. "You two stay here with Cassidy while I go challenge Norman!"

Cassidy nearly leaped for joy when she was presented with the Balance Badge.
"Thankyou!" she grinned, Twayblade by her feet as she accepted the badge.

Cas then made her way to the bench, "Hey guys!" she grinned to Celeste's Pokemon.
She then let her own team out to watch and learn from Celeste. She had no idea what her friend's strategy might be.

Norman grabbed his next Pokeball and sent a Zigzagoon out onto the field.
