A Shocking Treasure!

Kyraen bounced happily along the path that led into the Pecha Forest. He was so excited! Today he was going on a treasure hunt!!! He had been begging and begging his family to let him go on adventures on his own, but his parents and siblings had been really hesitant to give him permission. But he had kept on begging, and eventually his dad gave him a map and told him that if he could find the treasure located in Pecha Forest, that he could go out on his own!

Kyraen was determined to find this treasure! His dad hadn't told him what the treasure was, nor did the map give any clues. He was so curious, he thought he would burst from curiosity!!! He pulled said map from his bag. He set it on the ground and rolled it out with his paws.

It was a crude map of the forest, with a list of cryptic directions beside the map. The first set of directions read: "To start on your journey to find the treasure of Pecha Forest, one must first find the entrance to the Walkway of Silence. Tread carefully, lest ye disturb the Defenders of Quiet."

Kyraen sat back on his haunches, contemplating the cryptic words. He didn't really understand what the 'Walkway of Silence' was. But it sounded like if he wasn't quiet enough, something -or someone- would attack him!

"Really? Well, I'm a little short too!", Boris said jokingly. He waited for his friend's laugh or response, and looked back at them. Kyraen's eyes were wide, and he looked really worried. "What's the matter, Kyraen? Are we lost?", he said, concern visible in his tone. He hopped over to his friend and gave Kyraen's toe a poke to snap him out of his wide eyed trance. (Sorry it's a bit short.)

Kyraen motioned for the joltik to be quiet. "Shh... I, uh, forgot to tell you," he whispered as quietly as he could. "We have to be quiet here, or risk disturbing the pokemon that live here."

The vegetation surrounding the pair shuddered again. Kyraen's ears lay flat against his head as a pokemon emerged from the vegetation. It was an exeggcute, and it did not look happy to have its home invaded.

Kyraen eeped. The feral pokemon hissed when it noticed the two pokemon. It fired bullet seeds at them, and Kyraen ducked, feeling the seeds whiz over his head. Kyraen picked up Boris, gently grabbing his friend with his teeth, and ran, taking no notice to the branches and thorns pulling at his fur. He ran for several minutes, getting out of breath the more he ran.

He burst through the undergrowth, leaving the tunnel of vegetation behind, and skidded to a stop. He dropped his friend on the ground gently, before letting his head hang down as he panted for breath. "H-heh," he wheezed. "T-that was a close one."

"Wait, really?", Boris said in a softer voice. Huh? An exeggcute? The exeggcute hissed at them, and Boris stared back. He prepared to leap forward and attack, but the feral Pokemon released a barrage of seeds. He ducked, and tried to inch closer to the feral to get a good shot, but he was yanked away. He was nipped softly, and protested when Kyraen started running. "Hey! What was that about? I almost had it!" He stopped after Kyraen continued running, and running...and running. After stopping, he looked up at Kyraen. "So, what now?" He stopped after seeing that his friend was visibly tired. "Hey, you okay?", Boris said worriedly.

Kyraen looked down at his friend, his breathing coming slower as he calmed down. "Sorry about picking you up without your permission, but... I, uh, kinda panicked," he said, rubbing a paw against the back of his head awkwardly. "I, uh, I've never fought a pokemon before. It... it kinda scared me," he admitted, his ears falling flat against his head.

He leaned down and gave his ruffled chest fur a soothing lick, smoothing down the fur. He then looked up and around at the forest. "Uh, I guess we'd better check my map, and see where we go next."

He pulled out the map from his bag and spread it across the ground. The marked trail continued from the Walkway of Silence to a squiggly line marked 'Serene Stream.' The map read: "Once past the Walkway of Silence, follow the stones to the Serene Stream."

Kyraen looked around the forest. "I wonder what 'stones' it's talking about?" He said aloud.

Boris saw that his friend was quite rattled about the feral Pokemon encounter. "Hey, it's fine! Don't worry about it." Boris looked up at Kyraen, admiration in his eyes. "If that was my first battle, I'd be too scared to do much of anything! That was some quick thinking." Boris hopped up on his friend's shoulder and stared at the map. "Serene Stream? Never heard of it." Boris stared thoughtfully at the map. "Maybe the stones are the treasure you're looking for? Just a guess. It's probably wrong though. "Oh, wait right here! I feel like you could use a pick-me-up. Lemme see what I can find!" The yellow bug romped off into a bush, causing it to rustle.

Kyraen hummed thoughtfully at his friend's comments. "Hmm, maybe," he said. He watched as his friend jumped into the bushes. A smile played around his lips as he reflected on how lucky he was to find such a friendly pokemon as a companion this day.

The bushes rustled again, and Kyraen returned his attention to them, expecting his friend to jump out and greet him. He was unpleasantly surprised by an aipom emerging from the bushes, looking at him menacingly. Kyraen's ears flattened against his head as he backed away.

He wasn't a fighter, and he didn't know what to do. "Uh... h-hi," he greeted the aipom. The monkey pokemon glared and advanced towards the eevee. "U-um... I... I don't want to fight you," he told the feral pokemon.

The aipom gave no sign that he heard Kyraen, let alone understood him. Then the monkey dashed towards him, scratching the eevee along his side. Kyraen let out a wail of pain and kicked the monkey away from him. "Boris, help!" He cried.

Boris saw a glint of pink and darted towards it! A pink gummi! Kyraen would love that! As if on cue, Kyraen's voice called out for Boris. He seemed distressed. Boris, still clutching the gummi carefully in his mouth, ran as fast as his little legs could carry him. As he exited the bush, he saw the scene unfolding, and dropped the Gummi. "I'm coming!", He yelled. Boris, seeing that his acquaintance had been injured, realized that he wouldn't be able to make it before the Aipom attacked the Evee again. Boris released a stream of webbing from his mouth, aiming for the purple monkey. The Aipom turned around at the last moment, but was enveloped neck down in a cocoon of sticky silk. "Did the Aipom hurt you?!", Boris exclaimed, rushing over to Kyraen.

Kyraen sniffled as Boris came over to him after trapping the aipom in sticky webs. He nodded as the joltik asked him if the aipom had hurt him. "Uh-huh," he said pathetically, gesturing to his scratched side. "I... I can't hurt other pokemon, Boris..." he said, looking at the ground. "I'm a terrible explorer..."

Unbeknownst to the pair, two other feral pokemon had entered the clearing: a hoothoot and a pineco. Their goals were to attack the two pokemon, but upon the hoothoot seeing the pineco, its hungry belly rumbled, reminding the hoothoot it hadn't eaten yet that day.

The hoothoot let out a hooting cry and dove upon the pineco, pecking at the grass pokemon's scales hungrily. The pineco made angry crunching noises before exploding outward, causing both pokemon to faint.

OOC: So I looked up what the bumps on a pine cone are called, and apparently their official name is 'scales' soooo... huh.

(lel) It seemed that the treat for Kyraen had come with a price. "Don't talk like that! You're a great explorer! We wouldn't have gotten this far if it wasn't for you! You're a great explorer, and you need to understand that." Boris refused to let the Evee speak like that about himself. "So what, you can't hurt other Pokemon yet?! You'll get stronger, and you'll be able to be more confident in your battle skills! Just don't get down on yourself so fast." Boris paused to catch his breath from his little spiel, skittered over to the discarded gummy, picked it up, and dropped it at his friend's feet. "Here, eat up. It's not much, but it's something!"

Kyraen looked up at his friend and smiled weakly. "Heh... Thanks for saying so..." he said, trailing off. He took a deep breath and then shook himself. He couldn't focus on the negatives! He would just have to train and get stronger! "Y-you're right. I can't let one defeat affect my entire life, Boris. I just have to move on and learn from my mistakes, right?" He looked at Boris, who was now offering him a pink gummi he had found.

Kyraen took the gummi and ate it. "Thanks," he mumbled around the gummi in his mouth. After finishing the gummi -it was a little too sweet for his tastes, but that was fine- he looked around the forest again. "Well, we've gotta find these 'stones' the map referred to," he said, gesturing to the map that was still laying on the ground, having rolled up with no-one to keep it open. He grabbed his map and put it in his bag.

He picked a random direction and started that way, picking his way through the undergrowth, keeping his eye out for any 'stones' that the map could be referring to.

"Yeah. With that attitude, you can overcome any obstacle!", Boris smiled and watched as Kyraen accepted his offering. He took one glance back at the Aipom who was very much conscious, but seemed to have stopped struggling. He glared at it, and turned back to Kyraen who had already started off! He scurried up to meet his buddy, and hopped into his fur once more. The evee's fur smelled familiar and was very comforting. Boris kept an eye on the ground, looking for the stones that Kyraen had mentioned earlier. However, he was extremely tired. "See anything yet?", he mumbled.

Kyraen sighed as he continued leading the way through the forest. What would happen if he couldn't find the treasure? His parents and siblings would continue to smother him and be overprotective, and he'd never get to do anything fun! He had to prove that he was capable of being independent!

He lowered his head as he sighed again. Who was he kidding? He was never going to be independent if he couldn't even fight off feral pokemon. It was then that a glitter of something caught his eye. He turned toward the shine, and noticed a small, white rock embedded in the ground.

He walked toward it, and noticed that it was perfectly round and smooth. He touched it with the pad of his paw, and felt that it was cool to the touch. He looked around, and spotted another one ten or so feet away. "H-hey, I think I found the stones!" he said excitedly to Boris.

He started walking in the direction of the second stone, and soon found a third and a forth. "This is definitely what the map meant!" he exclaimed. "Come on, Boris!"

Boris was about to nod off, but he heard Kyraen say something about stones? He jolted awake, suddenly alert. Well, as alert as you could be when you were so tired. "Let's go! Let's go!" Boris slowly crawled over to the Evee's shoulder, smiling widely. They had found the stones! But...did that mean their adventure was coming to a close? Boris looked upset, which was unusual for the normally energetic little bug. He tried not to show it, and looked around to see if there was treasure. Boris's curiosity flared up once again. What could it be? I wonder if it's treasure? Or it could be a legendary Pokemon! Maybe Arceus. Wouldn't that be SO COOL? Boris's negativity quickly dissipated.

Kyraen continued through the forest, following the path of little white stones. After a while of following the stones, he heard the sound of moving water. He followed the sound to a small stream running through the forest.

"Heh, look, Boris! We found the Serene Stream!" he said happily. He bent down and lapped at the cool, clear water. It was tasty and refreshing! After relieving his thirst, he pulled out the map from his bag again.

He unrolled it, and stared at the map. The trail led alongside the Serene Stream, until it reached a black dot on the map. The black dot was labeled 'Grave Grotto.' The map read: "Follow Serene Stream to Grave Grotto, where the sleeping tablet will greet you. Speak not but truth in its presence, lest ye wish for a grimly demise."

Boris gave a grunt of approval when they reached the stream. He slid off of Kyraen, and drank from the cold water. WOW, that was refreshing! After drinking for a good two minutes, he crawled slowly over to the map, and read. "Uh, Kyraen? Grimly demise? You sure that's the right place?", Boris said rather nervously. Boris wasn't really a Pokemon who was into death in general, let alone 'grimly demise', so it naturally made him uncomfortable. He shifted nervously, but was determined to see the Evee to the end of his journey. "Alright, we ready to go? Or do you need some rest?" He crawled up Kyraen's side, and curled up in the fur.
