Drip, drip, drip.
The soft sounds brought Ellychnia into a state of partial wakefulness, but were ignored just as quickly as they had appeared. It was not until she felt the cold chill of a drop on her face that she was brought out of the darkness of sleep. Amber eyes blinked open, blearily glancing at her surroundings and registering the shrubbery and plant life around her. A forest? That would make sense.
Slowly but surely as she woke further, she registered the drop on her face, realising that it must be the remnants of a rain storm shortly passed. The red haired girl made to get up, only to realise that she was precariously balanced between the branches of two trees and promptly scrambled for a grip somewhere, having not noticed her height through the last fog of sleep. One hand reached for the branches she'd been lay upon, whilst the other made a rather complicated hand gesture.
Neither method seemed to work however, and with a rather undignified squeal of surprise, the young witch slipped from the branch, grasping onto a rather flimsy new growth and trying to slow her fall. As the branch stretched to it's limit she lost her grip, falling the rest of the way towards the ground front first and bringing her arms up to protect her face whilst whispering all manner of curses.
She landed with a muffled,
"Oof", her legs hitting the ground a few moments after and causing a few loose leaves to flutter up into the air.
Laying there for a moment, Ellychnia gathered her breath before gingerly sitting up on her knees and examining herself for any injuries. After a rather prolonged double check to make sure, Elly breathed a sigh of relief. She didn't appear to have broken anything, although she'd definitely have a few bruises in a couple of hours. Oh well, nothing that a little healing magic wouldn't fix.
Sitting back on the leaf bed, Elly frowned at the ground as she fished a few stray twigs out of her hair before smoothing out the front of her dress. She then glanced around, looking for some hardier species of plants.
"Aha!" she grinned, spotting something fern-like a few paces away. It wasn't a species she was familiar with, but it should work just as well. She got to her feet and gently walked over to the plant, bending down and pushing it's leaves up to examine them. No parasites. It wouldn't mind her taking what energy it had to spare then.
With a small smile, Ellychnia closed her eyes and took a small breath, cupping the leaves with both hands as if the contact would help her with this unfamiliar plant. She would use this plant's energy to accelerate the healing of her bruises. That way she wouldn't be hindered by them in her search for the others.
After a few moments of nothing, Elly opened her eyes and blinked at the plant. She'd done this so many times before, there was no way she'd get it wrong would she? The young witch frowned and tried again, poking the plant gently, as if waking it up from a nap. Magic always came so naturally to her, there shouldn't be anything making it difficult for her now all of a sudden!
After another period of nothing, Elly scrambled to her feet. She stood there, making hand gestures that would seem odd and maybe even idiotic to those unfamiliar with the ways of magic. Elly tried the most basic of light generation magic, and the complex water temperature manipulation. Nothing! None of it worked!
A flash of light! A flicker of flame! Anything!?
"I don't understand!" the young witch cried out as her frustration and panic poured over. She ran her hands through her hair, practically tearing at it as she stared at the fern in utter horror. She'd been around magic almost her whole life, surely it couldn't just... stop?!
Loosening the grip she had on her hair, Elly hugged herself with her arms instead, turning away from the fern plant and kicking at a stray leaf on the ground. Looking up at the tree she had fallen from, she breathed in and then out, calming herself.
"Okay. It's no big deal. I don't need magic," she said out loud, trying to reassure herself,
"Just need to find Tawnie and Sorcha, they'll help me figure out what's going on," she continued, chuckling weakly at her own logic. Of course, Tawnie and Sorcha didn't know as much about magic as she did in the first place so it was unlikely they'd know something she didn't but there was always a chance! Right?
Ellychnia chewed her lip for a moment before she reached down to the small bag she kept on her person at all times. Well... on the plus side, everything was still in there.
Closing it up, she turned, raising her hand as if to gesture something once more, before she realised how useless that would be and just picked a random direction. Trial and error was also a tried and tested method of figuring something out.
As she wandered off through the forest, she cupped her hands around her mouth and called out to her friends, hoping that one of them would answer her...
"Tawnie! Sorcha!"
