Lumina padded towards the lake that surrounded Fallen Leaf Copse. She was returning to her place of evolution on a whim today, as she had no other plans to do anything. She hoped that exploring a dungeon and collecting some items would do her some good, as recently she had fallen into a rut of doing the same thing day in and day out.

She stood at the edge of the lake and looked out over it, admiring its serene, glassy surface. It truly was beautiful, especially with the way it reflected the autumnal colors from the trees on the edges of the copse. Today was a peaceful day; surely it wouldn't be broken by any mishaps? Or so Lumina hoped.

As if it was waiting for the two to finish talking, the beautifly came and attacked Giles and Lumina. Giles knew that he could not do all that much to help Lumina in fighting it. It would come nowhere near the ground for Giles to get an attack of. Instead he just braced for the enviable attack. The gust came at the two of them, thankfully Giles managed to not be shaken by the winds. His new ally did much more than that. She managed to take it out without breaking a sweat.
 
Giles was in awe of Lumina’s might. He knew that almost all pokemon would be a better fighter than him, but he never imagined that. All it really took was one strike to bring it down. Giles got the quick shivers and was thankful of his congeniality toward her in the beginning. “Well, that went quick,” he said. “It seemed that your abilities were no jest.”

Lumina basked in the praise joyfully. Some pokemon might call her arrogant in her confidence in her own abilities, but she preferred to think of it as mere confidence. After all, calling her 'arrogant' suggested that she didn't have the power to back up what she was saying.

"I am pretty great, aren't I?" she said, flicking her tails happily. She looked over at the shuckle, chin up proudly.

"Well, I'll let you take down the next one, shall I? You can show your stuff off as well, then!" She said.

Giles could not help but to rather feel inadequate watching her. He knew that shuckles were made for defense not attack, but he still could not shake the feeling. Lumina took care of it in one go, whereas Giles would have to just have to wait inside of his shell and hope that it would get bored and leave. That feeling only got stronger when she mentioned that she wanted to see what he could do.


“Uh, sorry Miss Lumina, but I’m not the best in the ways of attacking. And I’m better when somethings on the ground… I can get something in the air, but I don’t really trust my aim.” He knew that he could either try and shoot it out of the air with a sticky web or just snag it with an acid, but if he missed with a rollout, he could easily just turn back around and hit like that.

Lumina nodded her head in understanding. "I see. Well, the only way you're going to get better is to practice, you know," she said wisely. "Besides, maybe we'll come across a ground-dweller that you can take out."

She padded forward into the forest. She looked behind her to see if the shuckle was following her slow padding footsteps.

Deep down, Giles knew that Lumina was right. He did need to practice fighting. He had spent way too much time thinking that he just cannot do it, so why bother? That the world was against him in trying to fight. That it was against his genetics of being a shuckle. But that should not stop him. Protecting others can only do him so much. An enemy pokemon might just ignore him and go straight for a friend who cannot do much to protect themselves. “You’re right Lumina, let’s look around!” he said quite emphatically.
