Helping a friend gain strength

~Before Reaching Mountain Base~
After spending some time in grassveil in his home to rest from his recent journey's. Jak to take a visit into the town center.
He stumbled across an old friend in town. That person was a buizel named Jet. Jet had always come off as a little shy and timid pokemon to Jak. However Jak knew he had a lot of potential.

When Jak had saw his old friend. Jak offered to help train Jet some more. He seemed to like the idea of getting more training. Jak offered to bring him to Black Mist Mountain for some training. It would be a bit tougher then the normal areas around grassveil, but it would be helpful to Jet. Jet was a bit hesitant to do so at first, given that he had never been very far beyond Rainfront Town before. But he would be with Jak, somebody he knew he could trust and rely on...and it would serve to help him grow better than what he was used to. He needed greater progress than what he was currently receiving. After agreeing, Jak stated that they should prepare for the trip. It would be a few days trip to the mountain, especially from grassveil. The Buizel nodded to him, knowing full well that the mountain range was much farther than he had ever traveled before. He was definitely going to need to be properly prepared.
"So, I am going to get ready for the trip.. Meet me at the exit from town when your ready to head out." Jak stated as he waved to the Buizel. Jet nodded again, returning the wave before departing and seeking to gather what materials he would need as well. He just hoped that he could pull his own weight out there and wouldn't end up dragging Jak down with him....

~On the way to Mountain~
Jak had been walking at a steady pace with the Buizel, ensuring that they had not gotten too tired when they arrived there. Having breaks every so often , resting at night in natural shelters along the path. They both would have to be in top condition if they happened to have come across some hostile natives early on their adventure. "We are almost there. We should arrive there before tonight..." Jak stated as he looked around to see if there was any natural shelters from the elements for the night. The weather had been unstable in recent days. So Jak had not liked being out overnight without something overhead, Just incase the weather decided to go for the worst and start raining on him. Knowing that he could die if the rain got heavy enough, being something he had gotten used to doing before nightfall,

"We should probably keep an eye out for shelter the rest of the way. I really don't like getting caught outside when having to rest... It isn't fun being caught outside if it suddenly starts to rain... However, I can't say the same for you." Jak stated with a slight chuckle.

"How are you holding up so far?" Jak asked the Buizel, making sure he was still doing alright on the travel to the mountain.

Jak nodded in agreement with Jet, "Of course, I wouldn't like that idea of ganging up on another either. Just know I am here if you need me." he said as he stepped back some ways from the cubone. It seemed to remain perfectly still as it eyed at him. Jak however stayed ready, just in case Jet needed it. He hasn't really seen Jet do any battles before, so he wasn't sure of his ability. However, either way... He had to have some experience since he made it this far.

Jet smiled as he heard Jak agree to his request. He was glad that the Charmeleon was going to just watch him from afar and only assist him if he really needed it. 'But...' Jet thought as he turned to look at the Cubone again, who was still eyeing Jak up instead of him. 'He's only one Ground-type Pokémon. Maybe with my type advantage, I can win this. How difficult could one lone, wild Cubone possibly be?' With that thought in mind, he nodded to himself and crouched down. He started to ready himself for his first attack. This Cubone was standing in their way, and he needed to defeat him to continue his training.

"Alright, here we go." the Buizel murmured to himself. "C-Cubone, I-I will be your opponent," he announced aloud, not particularly wanting to strike the Pokémon while he wasn't paying attention. And once the bone-helmeted Pokémon turned its attention to him, he would begin his first attack. Trying to ignore his slowly-building exhaustion, he rushed forward on all fours as a vortex of water formed around his tail. He then made a leap into the air and spun head over heel in a forward somersault, coming down with an Aqua Tail aimed straight for the top of the Cubone's skull.

Jak continued to watch the Buizel as it started its battle. hmm, don't really need to announce it... he thought to himself. He wasn't going to tell the Buizel that. It is his choice, whether or not to announce it.

As Jet had went to strike the cubone with his aqua tail. The cubone watched him approach. Quickly raising his bone club to block the attack. When it became apparent that the attack was a bit stronger then he anticipated. He ducked out of the way, using his bone club to keep the move from striking him directly.

Jet came down with his Aqua Tail, expecting to smash his Aqua Tail into the Ground-type Pokémon's head. Unfortunately, his attack did not work as expected. Though he wasn't really sure why he expected his attack to work like that. He knew that he was not very physically powerful. That was the whole point in coming all the way out here to train in the first place. To battle with strong opponents that would force him to become stronger than he was right now. But now that his attack had missed a direct hit, he needed to rebound quickly. And so, his tail struck the ground and the water began to dissipate from around it. He landed on his two feet again and quickly spun himself around. He had to catch his opponent off-balance if he could. And the only way he could do that is with speedy attacks. And that was the one thing about battling that he felt he was good at, other than perhaps his endurance.

Jet spun around and whipped his tail through the air. As his tail crossed before him, a sudden shockwave was sent forward, slicing through the air like it were a physical, arced blade. He had just unleashed his Sonicboom attack straight for the Cubone. It may not be a Water-type attack, but at least it did not require a strong user to be effective due to its consistent damage. That was why Jet loved using this move as much as he did. It did not matter if he was physically weak. His Sonicboom, if it hit, would be just as strong as anybody else's.

Jak kept his eyes on the battle as it went on, watching as the attack Jet started with seemed to have been somewhat redirected as the cubone avoided most of it. He figured that this was probably going to be a decent match up for the Buizel.

The pokemon quickly turned around only to see get slammed by the intense clap from the sonic boom. Knocking it backwards towards the ground. The Cubone grunted as it got back up. It stared at the buizel with a face of pure determination. About a second later, it threw the bone in a spinning motion towards the Buizel as it started moving towards the side.

Jet couldn't help himself. A smile appeared on his face as he watched his attack connect with the Cubone. He was glad that he had managed to land a direct hit against the Cubone. However, he knew that this was not the time to celebrate. Sonicboom, while it didn't require its user to be strong, still did a relatively low amount of damage. Still, Jet's smile did not fade. He was currently in the advantageous position and was currently winning this battle. That was all he needed to be happy right now.

Jet's smile disappeared quickly, however, when he saw the look the Cubone gave him. It was one of determination. He had seen it only a few times before, but he knew for sure that it meant this Cubone meant business. And just a moment later, he saw what it had planned. A bone was hurled in his direction, spinning around as it came straight for his face. "Ack!" Jet exclaimed, surprised that the Cubone could recover and throw the attack at him as quickly as it did. Thankfully, though, he was able to just barely react quickly enough. He moved his body to the side, just barely stumbling out of the bone's pathway. Even then, though, he did not realize his mistake. He had been too preoccupied by the bone...that he had completely taken his eyes off of the Cubone.

Jak saw how the move connected with the cubone. He smiled at the fact that it seemed the Buizel was able to think fast enough to chain his attacks. It was something that is very valuable on certain opponents, which seemed to be true for this one as it quickly threw its bone club at the buizel. Seeming to have missed, but just barely. It started to turn towards the direction the pokemon had earlier moved towards.

Jak still remained watching, believing the Buizel was not in any serious danger at the moment.

The cubone started rushing towards the Buizel as the bone club came towards it. It quickly grabbed the bone from the air as it sprinted towards the Buizel with its bone in hand. As it got close it attempted to smash the Buizel with its bone-club. ^{Move: BoneClub}

Just as Jak noticed the Buizel hadn't seen what his opponent was doing, he shouted to the Buizel to look out. However it was pretty late and it was quite possible there wasn't going to be a fast enough reaction.

Jet let out a small sigh of relief as the bone barely missed slamming into his body. But it was apparently far too early for him to celebrate. He heard Jak's voice from the sidelines suddenly call out to him. "...Look out...?" Jet murmured, turning his head to see what the Charmeleon was talking about. He had just dodged the bone, so what was he worried about?

The sight that met his eyes took him completely by surprise. His eyes widened fearfully. The Cubone was upon him, having managed to come up behind him while he had been too busy dodging the bone. He was a surprisingly quick Pokémon, given his appearance. And unfortunately, the Bone Club attack came swinging down at his body, and he could not get out of the way. The bone smashed into the side of his face, causing him to let out a loud cry of pain. He was slammed powerfully into the floor, getting knocked hard onto his back right at the Cubone's feet. "Urngh," he groaned, stunned from the blow to his head, but still far from out.

Jak couldn't help but wince as he saw the hit. It seemed that there was definitely no time to react to it. "Jet! You alright?! Gotta get up!" he shouted towards the Buizel.

The Cubone seemed to just stand there. Holding the bone to the side, being ready to strike or get out of the way of any move. It seemed to be fairly experienced fighter. The Cubone glanced towards Jak as he had asked if Jet was alright. However it was not phased by the fact that he was still there and not attacking.

Jet groaned for the moment, taking his time opening his eyes. They had shut instinctively in anticipation of the pain. But when he heard Jak's worried calls. He started to open his eyes, trying to blink away the bright sunlight as it appeared before him again. "Y-yeah, I'm al-!" he started. But at that point, his eyes widened. He saw the Cubone standing over him, bone club waiting right at his side for him to make some kind of move. Given the sight, he was actually rather surprised that the Ground-type Pokémon hadn't actually initiated his next attack yet.

The buizel rolled himself over and tried to push himself back to his feet. Even if he wanted to attack the Cubone from the ground, he was actually unable to deliver any kind of real attack from here. Both of his attacks required use of his tail, which he was currently sitting on and required momentum to be of any use. And to do that, he needed to be standing. But, there was one thing he could do from his grounded position. As he rolled over and started to rise again, he would try to clench his right paw into a fist...and then throw it forward as hard as he could. He would aim for the chest using a basic attack, rather than any of his moves. His physical strength was rather low, however, so he did not anticipate any kind of damage. But, just maybe, he could take the Cubone by surprise and cause him to fall back.

That was, of course, assuming the Cubone did not stop him as he rose. A simple stomp onto his chest, stomach or back would probably be enough to force him back down prematurely. His exhaustion from making his climb up the mountains was starting to get to him and his rise was slower than he would have liked. And if the Cubone did manage to stop him, he would probably find himself right at his mercy for a few moments.

Jak noticed the lack of energy the Buizel seemed to have. Jak felt that if the pokemon decided to go all out on him, it probably would have knocked him completely out by now. However it seems it wasn't as hostile as he might of thought it to be.

Jak then watched the Buizel attempt to punch the pokemon. Doing something he did a while back when he trained with Obera for the first time... He tried to use up every bit of energy he had to show he was strong... He mentally sighed as he knew what could happen.

As the Buizel's fist got close to the pokemon, it simply grabbed them. This whole time that it did not speak. It finally decided to say a word. "Enough..." it said in a firm but neutral tone. "Bite more than one can withstand, Failure will persist... Rest..." it said in a calm tone as it let go of the Buizel and got out of its battle stance.

Jet's hastily-thrown punch did not even do what he had hoped it would do. Instead of at the very least connecting with his opponent...it was stopped dead in its tracks. His eyes widened slightly as the Cubone managed to block his attack and completely stop his forward momentum. "Wh-what...?" he said in surprise. But he wasn't about to stop here. He curled his left paw into a fist as well and prepared to pull it back in preparation to launch it forward. But he stopped.

"...Huh?" he murmured in response. He looked up, confused, at the Cubone. Did he just hear...what he thought he was hearing? "What...what do you mean?" he asked. "I-I thought...I thought that we were battling...." His second fist uncurled itself, though, and he pulled his right arm back to his side and rose back to his feet again. He hadn't realized it until just now, but he was starting to breathe a bit harder than normal.

Jak walked over to the two. "I must of been wrong by him being hostile... He had me fooled... Anyways, I believe he means that you shouldn't push yourself to the point of defeating yourself..." he said as he approached the two. The cubone just remained silent at his response. Not even to answer the buizels comment about them battling.

"So, why did you attack us then..." Jak decided to question the Cubone. "Challenge..." he stated blankly as he turned towards the charmeleon.

Jet turned to look as Jak stepped up to his side. "J...Jak?" he murmured, somewhat surprised to see him moving up to the pair. "Then he's...not a hostile Pokémon...?" He turned his attention back to the Cubone, looking at him more closely. It was true, though. Smashing Jet into the ground seemed hostile, but he did not follow the attack up when he had the perfect opportunity to do so. He probably could have thrashed him if he had wanted to, but he stopped himself. Those could not be the actions of some wild or feral Pokémon of any sort. "I...suppose that makes sense," he finally commented aloud.

However, when the Cubone spoke up again, Jet seemed surprised. He saw the Cubone turn to face Jak...and he understood his motives completely. He had apparently only wanted to challenge them. But something wasn't sitting right.... "B-but...no," Jet said. "I-I get that I'm not that strong...b-but that's why I'm here, isn't it?" He looked from the Cubone to Jak...and then down at the ground near his feet. "Th-thank you for being so concerned, but...but I can't get stronger if I'm afraid of overexerting myself, right? C-can I really back down just because I might get hurt?" He looked over at the Cubone once more. "Please...can't we at least finish our battle first?"

Jak knew immediately after the Buizel wasn't going to back down at this. That he was most likely going to have to revive him. He just waited, how ever much he hated to do so. He knew that the Cubone, since it did not already finish him... Had some restraint on itself.

The Cubone grunted, "Unwise, but determined..." it said blankly before quickly threw its bone club to the side, purposely missing the Buizel by about a foot. However if Jet didn't react to it properly, it would come back and hit him from behind. After a second went after he threw his club, he rushed towards the Buizel just as the bone started making its return trip.
