| "Bah! Happiness is only a cover for the pain lurking beneath the surface," Pterra snorted derisively at Varda's words. "Even someone as slow as you has pain; you're just too slow to see it."
At the words spoken by another voice, Pterra's eyes narrowed and a growl rumbled up from deep within his chest. He flapped his wings, rising over the ledge where the voice had come from to lay eyes on the hariyama that had interrupted them.
"And what would you know about 'lack of restraint'?" Pterra snarled to the fighting type. "All fighting types are just great big bundles of 'lack of restraint'!" he mocked in irritation.

| Varda tilted his head to the side, looking like he didn't quite get what the Aerodactyl was talking about. Perhaps he only proved Pterra right in the fact that he was rather slow. He held the awkward position for a while, his feathers flopped over until he straightened himself and used his wings to check his body. He felt no pain anywhere, no wounds or bruises. The bird was feeling quite well, in fact. If there was pain somewhere, he certainly didn't see it!
The bird didn't manage to ask his newest friend about the pain he couldn't see, as a strange voice suddenly called from above. The Aerodactyl rose to the air to go take a better look, the wind caused by the mighty flaps pushing the Swablu around before he forced himself to fly against it and land on the ledge above. Some kind of very strange Pokémon was sitting there, almost looking like he was sleeping... But clearly, he wasn't! Unless he was sleeptalking.
"A fighter must first conquer themselves," the Hariyama answered to Pterra's mocking, not even opening his eyes as his voice and posture remained calm, but focused. Varda meanwhile seemed to be happy to meet a new person. "Oh, um, hello!" He greeted the stranger.

| Pterra rolled his eyes at the Hariyama's words. "What is that even supposed to mean?" he asked in exasperation, doing a flip in midair just because he could. "Look, who even are you and why are you interrupting our conversation? It's not like we were even talking to you," he snapped in irritation. He shook his head as Varda cheerfully greeted the fighting type pokemon, and wondered, not for the first time, why he was even putting up with the slow little swablu. | |

| Varda didn't get a verbal reply to his greeting, as the strange Pokémon just nodded slowly in acknowledgment, his eyes still closed. The bird didn't seem to be at all bothered by it, still smiling as happily as ever. "Your first enemy should always be yourself. It's your own weaknesses you need to overcome," the Hariyama said calmly, not even seeming like he was paying any attention to Pterra's attitude. The Swablu... Well, he didn't understand a word, but he sat down as this Pokémon sounded very smart and knowledgeable – and he wanted to know more!
"I am no one important," the large Pokémon replied, his eyes still closed, "But you were talking on what one could call my yard," he continued, seemingly referring to the mountain as being his home. That made Varda's eyes grow larger as he seemed to be visibly impressed. "Is this whole mountain your home?" The bird cooed in awe, amazed at someone having such a large place to live in...

| Pterra huffed. The Hariyama wasn't even listening to his mocking! He shook his head at the fighting-types so-called "wise words." Pterra turned to look at the swablu as Varda gasped out a question. "Is this whole mountain your home?"
"No-one can own a whole mountain," Pterra scoffed.

| Varda looked a bit saddened as he gazed at the Aerodactyl who seemed to be thinking that a whole mountain couldn't be owned. That was a bit disappointing, as it would have been really cool... And not in the cold way, but the cool way! Of course, being so small himself, he had no idea what he would do with such a large nest, but still... "Owned or not, it is still my home," the Hariyama replied calmly, though the Swablu wasn't entirely sure what it answered... Or what it meant, really. Still, the little Pokémon just tilted his head as he smiled in his usual oblivious, but happy way. "A mountain home is neat! I wouldn't mind having one if it was warm... Though I don't think I could bring one with me to Grassveil Town..." | |

| Pterra shook his head at his companion. It astounded him how dumb some pokemon could be. "Of course you can't bring a mountain home," he said derisively. "One can't just... pick up a mountain and put it in your bag you know," he rolled his eyes. "And I doubt you'd be happy in a mountainous area; what with the cold stone and harsh pokemon around here. Why would you even come somewhere like this anyway?" he asked, suddenly struck by the question. Why would such a weak pokemon come to an area with such strong pokemon. "You're so small and... well, helpless. If I hadn't come along that Druddigon would have eaten you for a snack; not to mention the Tyrunt and that Tyrantrum," he said.

| Varda nodded a couple of times as the Aerodactyl also seemed to realize that a Pokémon his size couldn't just bring a mountain where he wanted! How great it was to have a friend who understood things the exact same way he did, it was like the two were constantly on the same page. It was a pity, though. Just like Pterra said, actually moving to the mountains wouldn't be a good idea: it was too cold and the Pokémon were kind of mean – except the meditating gentleman sitting a short distance away from him. And Pterra, though he apparently didn't live here. The Hariyama's eyes stayed closed and he said nothing, letting the two Pokémon speak without interrupting for once.
"Oh, well, I was trying to look for my home!" The little bird chirped when he was asked for a motive, as a little Pokémon like him really didn't have much of a reason to come to a place like this, "I've been looking for a while now. I've been here before and it didn't seem familiar, but... I felt like I should check another side of the mountain too, just in case! My home did have some taller cliffs, so I felt like there might be area like that around here somewhere. Doesn't look like it, though..."
((Woo! Soon. Do you have ideas already?))

| Pterra nodded in comprehension. "That makes sense. Still, why didn't you at least bring an escort?" he asked. "You know exploration teams," here he paused to sneer at the idea, "... are always willing to help out pokemon. For all you know, I could have been a nasty outlaw ready to eat you up or steal from you," he said, a smirk tugging at his mouth as he revealed to the slow Varda what he actually was, though there was no way the swablu could know that. Of course, the Hariyama could have heard of him, the Aerial Outlaw that lurked around the Black Mist Mountain. | |

| "Ooh, well," Varda started with a cheerful chirp, looking quite happy that the Aerodactyl seemed to care for his well-being. How considerate of him! The bird in turn stood up slowly and spread his wings as if to show his point. "I have wings! I don't really know that many teams that can also fly," he continued. Even if he wasn't the fastest or the strongest flier, he still had the ability which often made travel a lot easier for him than those Pokémon who were forced to stay to the ground. And the Swablu was a part of the Guild, so he knew many teams quite well!
"I just wanted to take a quick look and then fly back... Though I guess I ended up taking a bit longer than I intended," the bird nodded, agreeing with himself but not looking very bummed out about that. Things happened, but he wasn't hurt – or attacked by an outlaw. Instead he had made a new friend who was really nice! "Yes, outlaws... Terrible creatures, those. My sense of justice wouldn't allow me to just sit and do nothing if someone was getting robbed nearby," the Hariyama ended up responding in his usual calm voice after being silent for a while. Was he implying something or even giving out a threat, or just stating his opinions? It was difficult to say...

| "Hmm," was Pterra's only reply to Varda's explanation. He turned a glare upon the Hariyama at its pointed words, and showed his sharp teeth towards the fighting type. "Hmph. We should get going, Varda. Wouldn't want to be caught by that Tyrantrum from earlier, do we? Don't you need to get going home?" he asked pointedly, hoping to get the swablu on his own again. | |

| "Oh," Varda chirped as he seemed to be more alert on the mention of the Tyrantrum, that large roaring Pokémon they had met earlier. He definitely didn't want to get caught in those teeth! The bird ended up leering in the direction where they had left the dinosaur-like Pokémon, seeing if he could see it. "I guess! I don't know if it could get here though, I don't think it had wings," he seemed to agree with leaving even if he didn't seem to agree with the reason completely. The Swablu didn't think the Pokémon would just ambush them somehow, but perhaps it was a possibility. It was better to get some distance – and Pterra was right. He had to get back to town... "I'm actually not sure where Grassveil Town is anymore!" | |

| "Oh. That doesn't sound good!" Varda chirped with wide eyes as the Aerodactyl suspected that a Pokémon as big and strong as a Tyrantrum would just... Go where it wanted because it wanted, wings or no wings. It sounded quite frightening, so perhaps they should be going. Hopefully the wise Pokémon still meditating would be fine if the dinosaur Pokémon would climb up on the mountain, but at least he didn't seem too bothered by the suggestion.
"A-Alright!" The bird noticed that he had allowed his mind and eyes wander, snapping them back on Pterra as he offered to show him the way back to town. How nice he was, the two of them had basically just met and he was already getting a favor! The Swablu already prepared to take off, waving his wing at the Hariyama as goodbyes – though considering how the large Pokémon had kept his eyes closed, he most likely didn't see the gesture.
Still, the Fighting-type Pokémon ended up pulling something from nearby and offered a large, closed fist closer to Varda, opening it to reveal a tiny seed in the middle of his palm. "Here. It might be useful," the Hariyama offered, causing the bird Pokémon to hop closer and take the seed with gratitude. The little thing just was positively beaming as he looked up. "Oh, thank you! I'll put it to good use!" Varda chirped before he noticed that he was already starting to be left behind and jumped into the air to rush after Pterra.

| Pterra smirked as he noted the swablu diving after him so trustingly. It was surprisingly uplifting to have a companion whom he could say practically anything he wanted and have said companion be ok with it; even if said companion was a little on the slow side. He noticed a few items scattered across the cliffs, and swept them into his bag and then continued on his way.
He led the swablu to the base of the mountain range and pointed him in the direction of Grassveil. "If you head away from where the sun rises in the east, you'll reach Grassveil in a couple hours, depending on how fast you fly," he said dismissively. "Meanwhile, I have a certain Lucario to get my revenge on," his eyes narrowed and he looked in the direction of the Black Mist Mountain with a fierce expression on his face.
(So we can end the thread here if you'd like, with a full 5 pages yay. We could start another thread maybe or part ways for now; I really had fun with Varda/Pterra interaction XDD)
