| » Name: Mercury[-Solluxia] » Gender: Female » Species: #653 Fennekin the Fox Pokémon » Affiliation: leNone
» Level: 5 » Energy: 19 » Ability: Magician » Moves: -Scratch [start] -Tail Whip [start] -Ember [Level 5] -Wish [Egg]
» Likes: Mercury is very much a like a child thanks to her emotional growth. The emotions she has trouble controlling the most are positive ones like joy or excitement, which are the ones she's felt the least. She has a strange fascination with soft fabric (scarves, capes, ect.); perhaps because it reminds her of her late father. She also enjoys shiny things, as they are very appealing and enticing to the childlike mind. Hooray for the shiny things!!!
» Dislikes: Mercury doesn't like the cold. Despite being a fire type, the cold makes her very emotionally uncomfortable; a bitter (ha pun) reminder of the all the barren nights she has spent all alone in the world. She can't stand the empty feeling of being lonely; she hates it so much her mind actually represses it as a defense mechanism against it. She dislikes bitter foods as well; she got a horrible case of food poisoning from a bitter berry and has refused to touch them since.
» Personality: Mercury is air-headed and quirky. She sometimes acts childish, but her heart is always in the right place. Even if she sometimes steals stuff. She views her career as a thief as nothing more than a game she plays with her victims. She loves making new friends and is ever the optimist.
» History: Little Merc was Unfortunately hatched prematurely with a few complications, so her growth (emotional and physical) was stunted, leaving her smaller and lighter than the normal Fennekin. Her brain was also affected, leaving her with severe ADHD. Her parents, a very effeminate shiny Sylveon father (Vermeer) and a strong, masculine Delphox mother of few words (Mona-Solluxia), were undeterred by these quirks; they loved her twice as much, in fact.
At some point around the middle of Mercury's childhood, her mother Mona began having to leave their small home outside Rainfront Town for long periods of time to fight off invaders as the territory began to grow hostile. At first the trips were few and far between. Soon, Merc wasn't seeing her mother anymore, as the violence only grew worse. Merc and Vermeer had to abandon their home and begin living life on the run, as even Mona's efforts couldn't hold back all of the attackers. They constantly stayed within the protective circle Mona had created, and thanks to that Vermeer was able to keep his daughter safely hidden for a few more precious years.
One fateful day, Vermeer and Mercury were discovered by a group of feral thugs. Merc had wandered a bit close to their territory, and while she hadn't actually crossed into it, the thugs were infuriated by the tot's "invasiveness". Vermeer absorbed the thugs attacks for her, but being the poor fighter that he was, he didn't last. The last thing he did for his daughter was point her in the direction of her mother.
Oblivious to her father being slain (in her mind, the big pokemon and her daddy were just play-fighting), Merc toddled off in the direction her father told her to go. After a day, she found her mother in a pained heap. Mona had sustained mortal wounds in a fight almost a week before Merc found her, but had survived thanks to a certain motherly instinct. Mona was barely able to move and fading fast. Thinking that her mother was just really hungry (Mona had hid the wounds from her child), Mercury immediately hunted down whatever food she could find and brought it to her mom. She even helped her dying mother eat, under the impression that she was just that exhausted. Mercury lay right by her "napping" mother's side for a few days after that, helping her mom eat occasionally.
Early morning of the fourth day, Merc's mother leaned in close and whispered, "Thank you, dear. I've got to sleep for a long time now, so go play. Somewhere safe. I'll see you again." Mona's eyes closed and her head slumped to the ground next to Mercury, leaving Mercury to mosey off alone once again later that afternoon. She never had a clue what was actually going on with her mother.
Eventually, little Merc found herself in safer territory; sheltered by the quietness of Monochrome Falls. She somehow managed to wander all the way there while she tried to meet up with her parents. She and her father had occasionally had to split up, having her trek to a safer meet-up place where they would unite. Monochrome Falls had the same calm atmosphere as those meet-up places, and so Merc's childlike mind automatically assumed that that was what it was. She waited for her parents for a long time, avoiding water as much as possible and hiding herself when she could. Her ability had been getting her into trouble since she first began toddling, but now without a parent to guide her she had no clue how to control it. She was misconceived to be a thief by those unfortunate souls who crossed her path.
Merc had no clue what this meant, but a lot of Pokemon were saying it so she figured it was a career or something that she was supposed to be. Seeing her face appear on a wanted poster for the first time only confused her further; she began to think that the other Pokemon wanted her to be a "thief". She must have been pretty good if the other Pokemon wanted her to be a "thief" so bad. For the first time, Merc felt important. She felt like she had a purpose. It made her... happy.
Merc became very upbeat after that. She became known somewhat as a very hard-to-catch criminal, when in all reality Merc had no clue she was doing anything bad. It was all a game of Cops-and-Outlaws to her, and she just wanted to be a good player. To be wanted. And of course, since it was only a game, Merc thought it only fair to return the owner's toys after she won. Items stolen by Mercury were usually by their owners in the morning after they woke up, or at other various times. No sense in being a bad winner, after all.
