On the Road to Graduation [Closed]

Aimee leaned against the metal bars that protected her from falling off the edge of the ferry, content in letting the crisp ocean breezes blow through her short, ginger hair. Feeling the salty spray of the sea on her face, Aimee's eyes were closed in the blissful moment, enjoying the warm sunshine and calm seas whilst she could. They'd be landing in Vermilion City soon enough, at least if the word being passed around the ferry were to be believed. Once they arrived Aimee figured it would be busy from then on until they'd finished their final graduate exam and dissertation, which could take more than a year if they weren't proactive with their time. With a small sigh, Aimee's green eyes opened again and she glanced up at the sky. Sometimes she swore her tutors hated her, after all the other three groups had gotten one region each to tour. The group she was in however had to journey around both Kanto and Johto purely because they were conjoined regions. At least they'd learn a lot though, and it would definitely be fun to see all those new places...
Aimee's green gaze turned to the cloudless sky with a smile. It wasn't really all that bad after all. She had three friends in the other members of the group she'd been put into, that had to be a plus side as well.

Her thoughts were disrupted by a Fletchling perching neatly on her head. With a chuckle, Aimee reached up as if to make sure the Tiny Robin Pokemon was balanced correctly on her head, "You enjoy your flight?" she asked the Fletchling with a smile. Arietta chirruped cheerfully in response before hopping off of her human friend's head and landing on the metal fencing that prevented people from falling into the water.

As she waiting for something to take the bait she had laid out, Aimee fished through her bag to get her notebook and camera out. This was probably the thing she had most organised; how she was going to catalogue each pokemon in her own unique way.

"Strange occurrences?" chuckled Aimee as she checked the battery level of her camera, "I can't say I've had any of those yet, but making some new friends does sound like a neat idea. I mean there must be so many Pokemon out there, you never know which ones you might end up getting along with," she smiled, tugging on her line a little bit to see if the wiggling of the bait would tempt some of the water Pokemon to bite.

"Yeah, I bet there are all sorts of pokemon out there, waiting to be found." Justin chuckled somewhat, grinning as he glanced over at the other two trainers, finding himself somewhat distracted from his fishing.
"I'm sure by the end of this we'll all have a few new friends from around here, and probably some good stories to tell." Audrey tilted her head slightly in confusion as her trainer spoke, watching the surface of the water, rippling and bubbling. The sight of a Staryu bobbing up to the surface of the water caught her by surprise, making the mienfoo jump back from the edge slightly and let out a small cry, unnoticed by Justin as he talked. It wasn't even attracted to the fishing rod of all things, the pokemon was simply bobbing on its own in the water for apparently no reason. Mustering up some bravery and curiosity, she edged back over to the ledge, looking down at the water in curiosity before running over to Justin and tugging on his leg, getting his attention.
"Huh? What is it?" He questioned out loud, looking over in the water and noticing what Audrey was pointing out.
"Wow, I think I found something." He commented rather casually to the other three trainers, looking down in the water.

"Good for you buddy." Damiean said as Justin seemed to find something interesting. Though Damiean would have to see what it was later, as he was still completely focused on his current line. He just kept staring at it intently, waiting for it to move in some way. This fishing thing was becoming somewhat exciting to Damiean. He had no idea of what he could catch or if he would catch anything at all. It was all up to what the world had in mind for Damiean at that time. All he could do was hold on to his fishing rod and stare at the line with Kimori doing the same behind him. That was until he felt a small tug on the fishing rod.

"Oh cool, I think I got something." Damiean said as he then began to reel whatever was tugging at the fishing rod in, eager to see what pokemon was at the end of his line.

"Finding something is of no use if you can't catch it as well.", Daniel commented dryly without looking up.
But then a small wave of surprise washed through his body as he heard Damiean's exclamation.
Could he actually have caught something? And that before Daniel did?
This would probably be beothering the teenager for the rest of their journey.

"Great, lad! Now you'll just have to..."
The Fishing Guru walked over to the boy, once more reminding him of the steps he should and would have to take to get his catch onto dry land.

A gentle breeze was blowing through the harbour, four teenagers and a man disappearing in the masses of the tourists in the area. From the sea the smell of saltwater was brought over, while a wide variety of pieces of conversations reached the students' ears.

Seeing the Mienfoo's pointing and hearing Justin's casual words, Aimee temporarily abandoned her fishing attempts to see what the two had found. Her camera around her neck, she peered over the edge of the harbour and into the water.
"I think it's a Staryu!" she grinned cheerfully, snapping a quick picture of the Pokemon as it bobbed along in the water, "I remember seeing these in the aquarium in Ambrette Town occasionally but i've never seen a wild one before."
Arietta had flown over to her trainer, hovering above the water as Aimee snapped a second photo of the wild Pokemon. It was kind of neat seeing such an impressive Pokemon as their first of the region and the Fletchling seemed very curious about it.

Aimee herself however was quickly distracted for a second time when Damiean thought something tugged his line. Staying where she was for the moment, she continued to observe the Staryu, bringing her notebook over to note a few things down, but Aimee couldn't help but cast glances over to Damiean to see if he would actually be able to reel in whatever had taken the bait on the end of his fishing line. She listened to the tips the Guru gave him, making a mental note of them in case she managed to fish up anything of her own later.

Oh wait, that's right. She was fishing too! Remembering her rod, Aimee darted back over to find that whilst she'd been distracted by the Staryu and the prospect of Damiean fishing up a water pokemon, something had stolen the bait from the end of her line and had gotten away. With a frown, she pulled the bobber out of the water and laid the rod on the ground to watch Damiean, camera at the ready to capture the moment should he actually reel anything in.

Giving a small nod of appreciation to Damiean for his congratulations on finding something, Justin looked back down at the star shaped pokemon floating in the water, as if observing the group. Observing it for a few moments, he checked is rod, reeling it in and finding nothing was attached to it.
"Huh. Maybe it just didn't feel like latching on to the line. Either way, I guess it's just staying there." He wasn't too upset at not being able to catch the Staryu, he was fine with simply seeing it. This was interrupted though as he heard Damiean say something about having a pokemon on his line. Heading over to the other boy, followed by Audrey, he stood by the other trainer and watched the water anxiously, waiting to see what would be caught.

Damiean had his mind completely focused on his catch, reeling in the pokemon with his rod. He gave it some slack every now and again, before reeling it in faster. Damiean could see a floppy tail come out of the water every now and again, but it didn't indicate what pokemon it was. He kept up his reeling, getting closer and closer to his goal, the look on Damiean's face being completely serious, contrasting with his usual laid back demeanor. After reeling in for a while, Damiean pulled his rod back with all the strength he had, causing the pokemon on the end of the line to come flying out. The pokemon was finally revealed to be a Poliwag, which got launched up into the air before landing Damiean's laps.

"Hi there. My name's Damiean and this is Kimori. Wanna be buddies?" Damiean said as he patted the head of the Poliwag, his normal laid backed face and demeanor returning as he did so. The Poliwag was smiling as wide as he was, while Kimori stared at it, analyzing his new companion.

How?!
How could this lazy...person have managed to catch something before Daniel did?
Ghost World, why did it have to have been him? If it had been one of the two others or if they hadn't managed to catch anything at all, that would have been fine. But why this guy?
He was lazy; he was unorganized. So why did he manage to catch the first Pokémon?
It simply did not make sense.

But...there was nothing one could do about it, so Daniel just kept mindlessly staring at his sinker, hoping for something to happen. He just had to catch something to even the score before the first day of the trip would end in a disaster.

Shortly after the Poliwag burst out of the water, Aimee managed to get an action shot of it, along with various water droplets, falling into Damiean's lap. It wasn't until after she'd taken the photo that she'd even realised what Pokemon it was.
"It's kinda cute," she chuckled with a smile, though she couldn't quite put her finger on the creature's name unlike the Staryu that Justin had found. Despite this she snapped another picture of it now that it appeared to have landed in her classmate's lap.

"Nice catch there!" the enthusiastic fishing guru congratulated, "Though you might want to make sure that Poliwag doesn't resent you for fishing it up before you go about asking it to join you," he chuckled hesitantly, scratching the back of his head in slight confusion at the boy's instant reaction of asking the pokemon to join him. After all it made no sense for a wild pokemon to just agree to travel with a human without some sort of reason to.

Justin took a step back as Damiean managed to land his catch, deciding to give some space to the boy as he bonded with the pokemon he had just fished out of the ocean. Smirking somewhat as he watched them, Justin turned to Dan and watched as he simply stared out at the bobber, deciding to walk over to him.
"So...find anything yet?" He decided to try and make some conversation. Daniel didn't seem to talk much unless it was about plans, from what Justin could see, he figured it might be a good idea to at least try and spark some sort of casual conversation.

"Thanks for the advice, but I don't think I'll need too. I think he likes me." Damiean said, smiling as he patted the round head of the Poliwag, glad to see that his new companion was happy. Most people would have probably had to battle or negotiate with a fished up pokemon to even consider adding it to their team, but that wasn't true for Damiean. He didn't really understand it himself. Pokemon just generally gravitated towards him and became instantly friendly to him. Damiean had never encountered a pokemon that was angry or mad while he was around. Damiean didn't understand what made pokemon see him as so enjoyable, but he never really worried about it. After all, this supposed attractiveness that he had with pokemon had led Damiean to meeting Kimori and this new Poliwag companion, so he had no reason to complain.

So it was a Poliwag Damiean had caught.
"A Magikarp would have been more fitting.", the wryly chuckling Daniel thought to himself.
But getting upset over this...farce was not going to help anyone. He would have the opportunity to prove himself. Later.
Now he had to fake being enthusiastic to avoid drawing the ire of his companions.
He may be an anti-social, arrogant, self-centered workaholic, but Daniel knew, that traveling with angry people would be even more exhausting than traveling with calm ones.
Then suddenly a voice interrupted his thoughts.
"So...find anything yet?"
The sudden, unexpected noise caused the teenager to flinch.
"Uh, uh...no. Nothing at all."
