PostSubject: On the Road to Graduation [Closed]   On the Road to Graduation [Closed] - Page 4 EmptyTue Apr 15, 2014 1:31 am

First topic message reminder :

Aimee leaned against the metal bars that protected her from falling off the edge of the ferry, content in letting the crisp ocean breezes blow through her short, ginger hair. Feeling the salty spray of the sea on her face, Aimee's eyes were closed in the blissful moment, enjoying the warm sunshine and calm seas whilst she could. They'd be landing in Vermilion City soon enough, at least if the word being passed around the ferry were to be believed. Once they arrived Aimee figured it would be busy from then on until they'd finished their final graduate exam and dissertation, which could take more than a year if they weren't proactive with their time. With a small sigh, Aimee's green eyes opened again and she glanced up at the sky. Sometimes she swore her tutors hated her, after all the other three groups had gotten one region each to tour. The group she was in however had to journey around both Kanto and Johto purely because they were conjoined regions. At least they'd learn a lot though, and it would definitely be fun to see all those new places...
Aimee's green gaze turned to the cloudless sky with a smile. It wasn't really all that bad after all. She had three friends in the other members of the group she'd been put into, that had to be a plus side as well.

Her thoughts were disrupted by a Fletchling perching neatly on her head. With a chuckle, Aimee reached up as if to make sure the Tiny Robin Pokemon was balanced correctly on her head, "You enjoy your flight?" she asked the Fletchling with a smile. Arietta chirruped cheerfully in response before hopping off of her human friend's head and landing on the metal fencing that prevented people from falling into the water.

Pic of Aimee for any snoopers and my future self |D:

Nodding his head and wanting to get on with it, Justin had already started to follow the Guru out, pausing slightly as he heard Aimee ask him about fishing before. Continuing to walk, he shrugged in response.
"No, not really." Justin answered, that being the simple response. The long response would have been that he had never actually caught anything when he fished before, though he didn't feel a need to share that bit of information. Once outside, he continued to follow the Guru as he lead the group to the harbor, placing the toolbox down on the ground and opening it up.
"Alright, come on now. Time to pick out a lure and some bait before you start." The Fishing Guru said with a smile, gesturing for the four to come over to the toolbox.

Damiean and Kimori followed the Fishing Guru to the pier with the others, putting their hands behind their backs as if they were trying to take a nap while standing. He was looking forward to their fishing as he had never tried it before and it sounded like a relaxing activity. Plus he could find some new Pokemon to befriend which was always a plus. While having Kimori and his classmates around was good in its own way, Damiean was more used to having several Pokemon hang out with him back at Fortree. Whether he was playing some random game or just relaxing in the forest, he would always have Pokemon gravitate towards him. So Damiean hoped that fishing could help get him some new buddies.

"Okay so who's going first?" Damian said, hoping that someone else would go first so that he could know what to do when he did it.

"Why not all of us?", Daniel commented.
"Seems to be quite time-saving for all of us if you ask me. And it would also be more considerate towards this gentleman here." He made a motion of the head towards the fishing guru.
"Repeating everything three times isn't really neccessary I think."
The teenager was getting slightly tired. This had already been far more social interaction than he had been used to. At least they would be quiet when the fishing would actually begin.
Or...at least he hoped, that his companions would be smart enough not to open their mouths so they wouldn't scare away the Pokémon.

"I'm sure I can teach three of you at the same time," chuckled the Guru, "Fishing can be a lengthy process sometimes anyhow so if you took it in turns we'd be here for days."

Aimee shrugged at Justin's reply, "Fair enough. Maybe you'll catch something more interesting here," she smiled cheerfully before turning her attention back to the fishing guru as he explained some of the different features of different types of bait. Arietta was perched on the side of the box with the bait in, pecking at the different baits in her curiosity but not attempting to eat or taste any of them.
"Which bait should we use then, Arie?" she asked the Fletchling, scanning over the different baits.

"It's possible, I guess." Justin responded with a shrug, looking indifferent on the subject. Possible, but unlikely. Spending a lot of time around an aquarium, it was hard to see some sort of aquatic pokemon that was incredibly impressive for him. Hearing the guru explain he could teach all of them, he walked over to the box and listened to the guru as he explained the different baits, looking in and silently thinking about which one to pick.

"Eh, that's fair I guess." Damiean said, leaning his body in a wall as he listened to the guru's instructions with Kimori right beside him. Or rather, he made it look like he was listening to the guru's instructions. Damiean wasn't the type of person that felt like he could learn something useful by listening to long, boring instructional lectures, which is probably the reason that he never paid much attention to his instructors in school. He felt like those types of things could never truly teach him anything important. Instead, he learned more by observation thanks keen eyes, which is probably why he wanted to see the others fish first so that he could see how it was done and learn it instantly. That's just how Damiean was. Kimori then tugged at Damiean's leg with bait in his small hand.

"Oh, you wanna use this bait buddy? Alright then, these should work." Damiean said as he grabbed the bait and smiled, trusting the decision of his partner pokemon.

Daniel meanwhile, complacent, that his idea had been chosen to be carried through,
typed a variety of numbers into a calculator, hoping to be able to maximize their success based on the lecture the group had just heard.
And if they would be able to catch a specific Pokémon, then maybe Daniel would even be able to make the first addition to his team.
This task wouldn't be easy, but at least there were four of them.
On the teengager's shoulder, Ben chirped excitedly.
This would probably be the duo's first battle outside of school and training simulations.
Hopefully all that hard work would pay off. It had to.

The Fletchling made another chirruping sound and spread her wings, hovering above the box for a second before grasping a different bait to those that had been chosen so far in her small, black claws and fluttering towards the ocean where some of the bait fell from her grasp into the water. With a small chuckle, Aimee picked up some more of the bait Arietta had chosen and followed the Fletchling over to the edge of the harbour, "I guess we're using that bait then," she laughed.

As the guru ushered the group over to the edge or the harbour he began to explain the proper way to cast a fishing rod, having brought his own to demonstrate. The first time Aimee tried, she was holding on to the line and did nothing but swish the rod a few times before she realised. With a small chuckle at herself, she then prepared to try again.

Without seeming to have much of a method or specific way in picking, Justin grabbed a seemingly random piece of bait, quickly attaching it to the rod and turning back towards the edge, chuckling and keeping the hook out of Audrey's reach as she eyed it curiously. As the guru explained the proper way to cast the line, he paid attention to the man, refreshing himself on how to fish. Turning back to the water, he pulled back and cast the line, watching it plop into the water. Now came the fun part of fishing: waiting for possibly a large amount of time for something to bite, or not bite.

Seeing the way that the others had cast their lines, Damian grabbed the bait that Kimori hand found for him and hooked it to the end of the rod. He then found a good spot for him to fish and casted his line in the water in the same way that he saw the others cast. Damian then sat down in his spot and began waiting for something to happen. It was actually a really calming activity now that he was doing it. Just sitting there, waiting for an unknown Pokemon to bite the bait while staring at the beautiful clear waters. It was relaxing and had a sense of suspense that made the waiting seem worth whatever the pay off would be.Damian knew that Kimori felt the same feeling as the treecko sat down beside him, staring at the area where he casted intently.

Reviewing his calculations, Daniel eventually decided to combine pieces of several baits, beginning to actually fish quite a bit later than the others.
While finally the sinker was bobbing on the water's surface, the young teenager had the time to contemplate his situation. Here he was, working on his final exam!
This was what he had worked towards for so many years.
How successful would the others' fishing attempts be?
How successful would his own attempts be?
And what would be the first Pokémon each of them would catch?
All those questions and many more were just waiting to be answered.
Soon.

Aimee sat on the shore edge for a while, watching the ocean and glancing around as she watched the Guru dart from person to person in order to give them pointers on how to control the rod, bring it in when something pulled and other such things. Occasionally she'd glance over to her friends to see if they were having any luck, but it appeared that so far they too had caught nothing. Arietta found herself attempting to ride a few updrafts as she waited for something to happen. Apparently, as patient as Aimee was, Arie didn't share her trainer's attitude towards the fishing activity and had occupied herself with other endeavours.

Justin sighed as he waited for something to bite, not getting a single tug on the line as he waited. Audrey had jumped down next to him and was laying down on the edge, looking into the water curiously. Glancing around at the other three he was with, Justin thought that everyone seemed to be fairly, well, quiet. Which was usually something people were while fishing, but for a group of people that were going to be traveling together, maybe it was best to get some less vitriolic interactions going on.
"So...anyone find any strange occurrences yet?" He joked, waiting a moment. "Maybe a better question in hindsight, anybody have anything they want to get done while we're over here?" He added.

"Well, I haven't gotten anything on my line yet. And I can't think of anything I really want to. I'm just hoping that I can find a new buddy here." Damiean said lazy as he held onto his rod, still staring at the calming waters as he continued to sit in his little spot. While he had responded to Justin's question, Damiean was completely focused on the area of the water that his line had landed. Damiean didn't want to miss anything that happened to it or he could possibly lose a chance to make a new friend for him and Kimori. The more pokemon he had with him, the more fun he would have on his journey. Kimori was also staring at the same area, most likely feeling the same thing that Kimori was.

Daniel ignored the question, not wanting to reduce his chances of success by scaring away the Pokémon.
In the meantime Ben was happily playing in the cooler meant to store the Pokémon they were supposed to catch. Hopefully this would turn out to actually be useful and not just a collossal waste of time as Daniel began to fear.
Howvever the team did not really have much of a choice in this matter, as fishing seemed to be the only option to obtain Pokémon living in the water until they would find one capable of utilizing the Surf attack. And it was likely, that such a Pokémon would only be discoverable by fishing.
Mindlessly staring at the sinker gently bobbing on the ocean's waves was beginning to lull the teenager into a trance-like state, only partially noticing the things going on around him.
