August, 2015 is widely considered the beginning of a new era in the world, and the life living on it. It all started with the discovery of one child, whose genetic structure once checked revealed a new string of genes that seemed to manifest themselves there upon birth, and yet the girl had no apparent health issues such as deformity, mental disability or anything. The doctors in this hospital went to local scientists and checked these genes, looking for an explanation as to what they were. After weeks of study it was found that these genes were something extraordinary, and they went public with their findings. These genes brought a new chemical into the girl's body structure that caused her skin tissue and organs to become fireproof, and caused a new organ to grow, one that allowed her body to generate fire. Scientists and doctors were skeptical at first, but then something happened that nobody had predicted.

Across the country in the next few months, more children began to be born with similar genes. These genes were not contained to just fire, but spread to several other abilities, such as psychic abilities, shape shifting, more elemental abilities and several other kinds. Making a decision, the government acquired and renovated an abandoned hospital located in the Rocky Mountains and used it for parents to willingly send their children to be studied. Scientists and doctors kept the children inside, giving them rooms and keeping them well fed, studying the genes and their effects. At first it was relatively friendly.

As time went on, things began to change. Scientists became curious with experimenting and injecting genes into others to see what would happen. Without consent from their supervisors, they began to take regular children from orphanages and inject them with these genes that they took from others. The process was painful, but resulted in assimilation and gave these children the same powers as the ones born with them. The experiments continued, and conditions in the research center gradually worsened.

The first major event that caused panic in the researchers was part of an experiment they tried. They wanted to inject other genes into people who already had strange genetics, and tried it one day. As it turned out, the more genes added resulted in further malformation of the subject's mind. With only one extra power added, the subject went feral and attacked and killed several researchers and subjects in the area. Because of this, conditions further worsened. It became more like a prison as subjects were kept in their two person rooms at all times, unless allowed out to interact. Even when they were interactions were kept under guarded supervision, and researchers were no longer friendly or even professional. They were much more cruel now, experimenting with these children simply because they could. Parents had no idea where the facilities were, and couldn't reach their children if they tried, and leaders of the research facility payed off certain government officials to keep the experiments under wraps. Despite this, they continued to experiment, containing the failures in a basement level.

The current date is September 24th, 2037. Nobody has found out about what this facility really does yet, and children born with these various special genes are being sent to it still. Some subjects are training themselves with their abilities in secret and plan to try and escape. Others are resigned to their life and unwilling to fight back. An escape attempt is likely going to happen in a short time, and it's time to see who's willing to go on the run and who would rather stay behind and not take the risk. Those who make it out may very well wish they hadn't with a secret order with unknown motives and the facility trying to get them back.

Appearance: Pale white skin, with brown hair and brown eyes. Average build. Eyes are somewhat large, but look a little squinted.

Genetic Mutation: Ability to manipulate light, or at least to a small degree. The light rays can be bent and twisted and stopped, as long as the light is nothing too large, like an entire field's sunlight. This mutation lets Kevin move the light in any way to create holograms and arts, and if it's used offensively, to temporarily blind other people by guiding compressed light waves towards a victim's eyes.

Personality: Kevin is usually quiet and shy. He prefers to be alone than with others. However, this is because Kevin is trying to restrain his temper. Kevin's temper can make him very angry, and make him do things he didn't mean to do.

History: When Kevin was born, he was actually very outgoing. At first, his parents didn't want to send him to this facility. His powers weren't even doing him or others any harm, since Kevin knew to not use the light in a bad way. In school, Kevin was very friendly, and did average in his studies. However, when Kevin reached the age of 10, his temper kicked in. One day, at recess on a Friday, a kid had been bullying one of Kevin's best friends. As the bully walked away, Kevin suddenly felt a spurt of anger rising up throughout him. Kevin couldn't resist the feeling. He took control of the sunlight, and bent in in ways to create horrifically scary images around the bully. The light holograms then rushed at the bully's eyes. All the compressed light burned part of the bully's eyes, causing him to go blind. Kevin got sent home that day, and over the weekend, Kevin's parents had a debate as to whether or not Kevin should be sent to the facility. Kevin eventually got sent there. Now, Kevin has just recently arrived, and has gotten used to the customs. He was already sick of it after two months, which has caused his temper to be steadily growing stronger and stronger. Kevin is now a recluse, because he doesn't want to harm anybody else in his anger. However, his wanting to break free from the facility is even stronger than his temper. He started to train his powers to make the light have even greater effects and potential.

Appearance: Pale skin, ginger hair and green eyes. Her hair is long but isn't very thick so she tends to keep it clipped up with only her sideswept fringe and a few shorter bits of hair hanging loose. The jaw clip is brown and is fashioned to look like a flower. Link here for any who wanna know what I mean (Right hand one in this pic)

Genetic Mutation:
A genetic mutation that allows her to completely rewrite her genetic structure, enabling her to shapeshift into various different forms. Her cells have an exact memory copy of her original form thus allowing her to return to it at will. All forms take intense practice and study to master, and if not memorised properly by her cells may become deformed upon changing into it. The current forms she has mastered are that of a dragonfly, a common garden sparrow, a cat and a fox; these being attained through the scientists studies, each form growing progressively more complex and harder to get right than the last. She finds it easier to master forms closer to those she has already mastered, e.g various other birds would be easier to transform into than say a bat due to her knowing how to transform into a sparrow already.

Personality: Taking the optional route this time.
History: Being born with a genetic mutation, Elaenia's parents did their best to hide it from most so that they wouldn't be asked to send their daughter away to a laboratory facility to be experimented on and studied. The hospital staff, despite the requirement that had been put in place 3 years previous, supported the girl's parents and neglected to mention the genetic mutation to anyone per their request.
Elaenia thus spent the first seven years of her life as a normal child. Despite the genetic mutation, she experienced nothing out of the ordinary for most of those seven years, until one day at school she was watching the dragonflies flit over the school pond. Her desire to be able to fly and flit around like the carefree dragonfly caused her cells to attempt to change her egenetic structure to that of a dragonfly's, producing gossamer dragonfly wings on her back and giving her skin with a texture similar to a dragonfly's. Terrified, other students ran from her and brought her to the attention of the staff.
It was discovered that Elaenia was in fact one of the children born with the genetic mutations and she was taken to a laboratory despite her parents protests. Her parents were eventually both sentenced to life in prison for breaking the law and Elaenia spent the next seven years of her life being studied and pressed into learning how to take on different forms. During that time her only wish was to see her parents again, only having her seven years of fond memories to remember them by once she was taken to the facility.
Nowadays she dreams of escaping the facility and finding her parents. In secret she is teaching herself to take on the form of a squirrel; a nimble little creature with a talent for climbing, which she hopes will be good enough to help her escape.

Other: Though simple, her hairclip was given to her by her mother after her hair was cut short and she was unable to wear it. Thus Elaenia treasures it as it is the only thing she has to remind her of her parents.

She has the ability to: create wind, make void in areas occupied by air(though this tires her quickly), modify and create sound- and shock-waves by manipulating the air, and other tangential air powers. As for her water powers, she can pretty much use any (pre-TLO) power that Percy JAckson has, minus withstanding fire/lava. Becasue the powers into'd in TLO are rediculouslu OP (personal hurricane? SRSLY?) and withstanding fire is silly. She can do mild healing via water.
Personality(Optional): She is mildly insane from receiving her water powers. Explained in history. She is cold an logical excepting when experiencing extremes of any emotion or sensation, when she becomes irritable, erratic, and unpredictable.

At the age of four, it was discovered she was a... gifted child when she was seen skipping gleefully in her house... a meter above the floor. Her parents kept a lid on her air-bending abilities until the girl was eleven, when the child went temporarily insane. She had been bullied quite severely at her school, and one of the insults appearantly got to her. She went on a rampage, killing all who had had a part with blades of air. However, she was never convicted of murder because firstly, she was a minot, and secondly, the scientists scooped her upand placed her in the lab before they had the chance. She was one of the unlucky few who had received another's genes and given their powers. She had received the genes of one Perseus Jackson, who had died three years prior to her birth. SHe succesfully received his water-bending powers, but was driven mildly insane in the process. Now she is in solitary confinement with three knives and air powers honed to an almost masterful degree of usage. She's thirteen mentally, but physically twelve years old since the genes that gave her aquatic powers slowed her aging.

Genetic Mutation: Hyun-Suh is capable of generating and manipulating electricity. He can direct electrical currents at conductive objects and fire off low to mid voltage sparks. What is interesting to note however, is that he is not exactly immune to electrical shocks, as the organ that generates electricity is limited in how much it can hold and if it goes above a specific voltage, it will overload him and knock him unconscious, or potentially kill him, like a normal human. Were he to have access to power lines or anything similar, he could theoretically use electricity from them to fire off extremely high voltage bolts of electricity, but at risk of overloading himself.

Personality(Optional): Option taken.

History: Born in South Korea, Hyun-Suh's family emigrated to the United States when he was young. The first several years of his life were relatively normal, with Hyun-Suh attending preschool perfectly fine. After many failed pronunciations of his name during grammar school, he began going by the nickname Henry, as it was much easier for his teachers and classmates to pronounce. Hyun-Suh would often find himself helping his classmates with computer issues, since his father worked as a computer technician and had taught him plenty of ways to fix common issues. Most of these issues often occurred when Hyun-Suh was nearby, but anyone who noticed this usually just put it off as coincidence.

Everything changed for him in his last year of middle school. While working in his school's computer lab one day, Hyun-Suh tripped over one of the power strips, and unconsciously sent out a spark towards it and through the wires.  All of the computers in the room lit up for a second before shutting down. When the teacher came over to check on him, they noticed that all of the computers were still plugged in and should have still been working. Finding this strange, the teacher mentioned it to to the Principal, who in turn contacted Hyun-Suh's parents. Deciding to look further into this, it was eventually discovered that Hyun-Suh was one of the many children born with a genetic mutation. Soon afterwards, government agents showed up to bring him to the laboratory and after a heated argument, his parents acquiesced, believing it would be the best option for him.  When he first arrived at the facility, he kept an optimistic outlook, believing that it was better that he was there and not at risk of hurting his family by accident. But as the months passed by, he came to realize the how horrible the experiments were and became resigned to the fact that he would probably die during one of them. When he began to hear whispers of an escape attempt, it reignited his hope and he decided that when the time arrives, he would help as many of the others escape as possible.
