More Joy

It was beautiful. After Revira had emerged into that other world, all she had seen up to now were things she wouldn't even have thought of as possible before. Crime. Pollution. Hatred. The show Johto Shore.
After all those horrifying things she had finally reached a calm, clean place again. An underwater forest, full of corals of every imaginable kind. In the distance, some Pokémon were swimming, although Revira couldn't figure out, who or what they were.
Maybe she should approach them? They might know, what had happened to turn this world into what it was now. Maybe Revira could fix it.
But how? She didn't even know much about this world at all.
A world, that had never been discovered by anyone before her and those few others, who ventured out as well. Maybe she could become a hero and save this world!

Proteus frustratingly found yet another Corsola spike, the things were useless to him currently! Why would he need any of these things? He ignored the spike, swimming forward only for something to touch his top spike. He panicked at the touch and fled back to the spike and tossed it at the figure with a slap of his fin. A small "Ping" echoed as the spike struck a bottle that was littered by a pokemon most likely. He sighed in relief and hoped his omanyte friend hadn't seen his moment of embarrassment.

Revira had in fact seen the moment of embarassment, but she interpreted it as Proteus trying to reduce pollution by picking up some trash. However ineffective he might have been in regards to that "task", Revira respected him. He was trying to improve things and did his best, just like any Pokémon should. Maybe one day a rescue team would be sent after the meanie, who had thrown this bottle into the ocean.
What had that Pokémon been thinking? Littering was bad!

The fish tried to collect what dignity he had left and continued on. He began to wonder though, did magikarp have any dignity? He pushed the thought out of his mind and wondered how to fill the silence between the two. He could not think of anything, so he resorted to asking the Onamyte for a game. His mother always occupied the time with games.
"Hey..." he spoke, "Wanna play a game?"
He felt kind of awkward for asking to play a game, but he liked games since they passed the time and the silence would be less plentiful.

"A...game?", Revira asked, thoroughly surprised by the sudden and unexpected question.
"Here? Right now? Uh...sure, why not? What kind of game are you referring to?"
While the Omanyte didn't understand, how the Magikarp could be thinking of games with those meanies around, games were usually fun and fun was good, so there wasn't any logical reason for her to disagree.
Now what kind of game could the golden fish be trying to get to agree to here?
Maybe it was some strange game, that the inhabitants of this world played!
And that game wouldn't be known to her yet! This was all so interesting!

"It's a game of words really, basically I say a word, like 'Apple' and you have to find a word or name that begins with the same letter I ended with, like 'Elekid'"
The Magikarp spoke as he swam, not looking back at the Omanyte since it would render him unable to swim forward. He had to be cautious where he swam, as to not swim into a current that would send him flailing about like earlier. Proteus listened for the Omanyte's reply as he found something in the coral of the seafloor.

"And you are sure, that this won't distract us too much from the task at fin-slash-tentacle? Swimming around while speaking could attract some of those meanies and we might not even notice them! But...since you apparently think, that it's safe, I don't see a reason, why we shouldn't."
Happily the Omanyte followed the Magikarp through the coral. However, due to her way of swimming, she often had to turn around to see, where she was actually swimming and whether Proteus was even moving in the same direction, so her progress was slowed down slightly. There had to be a solution to this problem!

"It's more to pass the time, it would be boring to just swim around searching in silence," The fish explained himself, "I guess I'll start then, Lapras."
Proteus was a bit doubtful now himself as well though. Was playing games like this really going to distract him from finding joy seeds?
He soon decided that it would not. For it was just a game, besides he could look for clues as to what words to use along the ocean floor and use items to help him out in the game and make him look even harder. He ignored another corsola twig, and kept swimming.

"Well...if you think so, then why not? I'll just say "Saliniformity" then. Now it's your turn again!"
The Magikarp was a funny Pokémon for sure. He may be a bit strange, but he was nice and not a meanie like those other Pokémon around here. Was he somehow immune to that catastrophe? And he said, that they were going to explore that dungeon-thing with another Pokémon as well! So was that Pokémon unharmed as well? What was its name again? Milo-something...Hopefully the Omanyte would remember the name before they reached their goal! It would be impolite of her to have forgotten the name of her soon-to-be friend!

"Sali-what?" The magikarp turned to ask the Omanyte. He was beginning to have second thoughts about challenging this pokemon to a word game. Just how big of words did this pokemon know? He hoped that it was just a fluke that the pokemon knew such a word and the rest was normal as his...though his was fairly low. Proteus hoped he had not just challenged a swimming dictionary to a word contest! He waited for an answer, not realizing that he had failed in giving a word that began with "Y" just yet.

"Huh? What's the matter? Do you not know the word? Saliniformity describes a state of something having similar or identical properties to salt. So...what's your next word?"
Still following behind the golden fish, Revira found herself already thinking of words to use for every letter  her friend's word might end with. What would he choose? There weren't too many words beginning with a "Y" after all. Yet there were enough of them to prevent the Rock type from accurately predicting her partner's choice. Language certainly is a fascinating thing and a powerful tool at that. Where would civilisation be, should the concept of language never have been invented? It was both an interesting and a frightening thought...

Protues thought for a bit, the word ended with a sound similar to "E" but judging by how it was supposed to be describing something like the Omanyte had mentioned, he guessed that it ended in "ly" and therefor he had to find something that ended in "Y". The Magikarp pondered his brain for a bit before spotting yet ANOTHER corsola spike, "Yell" he decided to say since he was about to sarcastically yell with glee at the finding of yet another corsola spike. He gave himself a quick boost with a rapid swish of his tail and moved forward.

Proteus' choice was an interesting one. From the word he picked, the Omanyte understood, that the Magikarp obviously was so happy about playing a game with her, that he almost wanted to yell! Even without being able to see his face, Revira was sure, that that was how her newest friend felt.
Oh, but now she had to choose a word herself again, didn't she?
"Now...I pick..."lautenclavicymbel". It's a musical instrument!"
The Rock type was happy. Not only because her dear friend was happy, and not just because they were playing a fun game together, but also, because she had found an interesting shiny thing on the ground!
It was almost as beautiful as that picture she had found. (the Rare Fossil)
Maybe there would be even more treasure here!

Proteus was not even going to try to pronounce that word or even ask what it was. This omanyte obviously had a bigger vocabulary than him, so he tried to keep it simple. He looked along the ocean floor, searching for an hint to a word he could use. There were so many he could choose from! He decided to bring up a word that was an action of what he was doing just then, "Look."
He half hoped the omanyte did not bring up some ridiculous sounding word that it had made up. He half hoped she did, because words were an interesting thing, and seemed almost infinite yet not.
The golden fish continued forward, swimming around coral and nearly getting caught in another current before swerving down and avoiding it by sticking to the ground level, and finding something of interest hopefully.

Upon hearing the Magikarp's word, Revira stopped and turned around to try to find the thing Proteus had asked her to look at. Only after seeing nothing special and thinking for a second, she realized, that he had meant for it to be his response in their game. Giggling, she tried to choose a word herself.
Finally she decided on:
"Kakorrhaphiophobia, the fear of failure."
It was an interesting word, that her friend would definitely love to get to know! Expanding one's vocabulary was such an interesting thing after all! The Water type would be even happier, which in turn would make Revira happier!

Proteus blinked as he found a joy ribbon similar to his own. He blinked in surprise and picked it up. He could probably use this for something or sell it later. He smiled at the thought of selling it. Such an item is a strong item. He could feel the effects of his own making him stronger as is the effects of the joy seeds. He could not wait until he was strong enough to evolve! He was so excited that he had forgotten about the game. The omanyte had come up with yet another strange word he had never heard of before. He thought for a bit before speaking, "Apple." He had remembered trying the food product, and then nearly getting killed for it by another Riolu by the name of Kira..
