PostSubject: The spirit of adventure   The spirit of adventure - Page 2 EmptySun Jul 14, 2013 4:34 pm

First topic message reminder :

The sun had just risen from behind the horizon, coating the lands in a slightly yellowish tint as its first rays broke the blanket of darkness, that had been covering the area during the night.
Having decided to pay a visit to the islands, that somehow were floating above the landscape, William exhaustedly admired the architecture of the strange pyramid, that seemed to have been built on one of them. What was its purpose? Did it contain treasure? Would it be dangerous inside?
As he began to shiver due to the icy cold winds up in the skies, the Gastly pushed that last thought away as he slowly floated into the construction.
What would await him in there?

After the Normal type Pokemon regained stable flight, it gave Nick even more of a menacing growl than before. What came after was another metronome, the results of which were not pleasant. The Togekiss breathed fire out of it's mouth in a Flamthrower. Nick managed to avoid the fire, but before he knew it, he was surrounded by wall and flames. The bird froze, looking at the flames around him. He was very scared of fire. Sure, rock type moves hurt him more, but a normal rock wasn't dangerous unless it was huge and rolling at you. Fire was always dangerous, and usually got more dangerous over time. Luckily, this wan't such a time. The rock the fire was on caused it to slowly die down, but in the mean time, the Togekiss had quite an opening. It's eyes grew a deep purple. This may be confusing at first, but a look at Nick may help clear things up, even if just a bit. The bird had his wings on his head, grunting, and eventually shouting as is he was suffering some great pain.

As the Togekiss showed great proficiency or maybe just luck with its Metronome, William decided, that he had to intervene. As he was incapable of directly hurting this adversary without flooding the tunnel with toxic gas, that Nick wouldn't be able to move through, the Gastly had to use an alrernate solution.
William concentrated as he mentally projected several thoughts in front of him. The fourth dimension, intersecting lines, that were parallel at the same time and the corner of a circle for example. Those and many other similar images were focussed into a small ball of a colour, that seemed to be a mixture of yellow and blue, yet it wasn't green. The Confuse Ray slowly moved towards the Togekiss, making odd, indescribable noises while doing so.
Status moves always had been a favourite of William. They could almost completely incapacitate a Pokémon with a single use and could defeat them through nonviolent means. And if one perfected the art of moves like Confuse Ray and Hypnosis, one might even learn mind control or so William theorized.
What was certain, however, was that the Togekiss now was thouroughly confused, randomly twitching in the air.
The Drifloon was knocked back a significant distance into the corridor before it slowly got up again and returned to the field of battle.

When the Togekiss became confused, it lost it's ability to hold it's psychic attack. The normal type's eyes were normal once more and Nick quieted down and loosened his grip on his head. The pain still lingered, but it was bearable. Failing to witness William's actions, the bird was a little confused himself. He looked to the Togekiss and saw it fly into a wall and hit the floor, twitching a little. It wasn't out of the fight, but it was down for now. Nick looked back to the drifloon that was approaching William. "No you don't." he mumbled before throwing a few icicles at the rubbery ghost. He actually managed to cut a small whole on it's "skin." and a black gas was coming out before vanishing in the air not even a second later, kind of like smoke. What was odd was, despite this, the drifloon's size did not change.

As the Drifloon currently was under attack, William decided to do something about the Togekiss. Eventually it would snap out of its confusion and pose a threat again, so attacking it in its weakened state seemed to be the best choice. Thus William charged at the bird-like Pokémon, hoping to slam it into a wall.
His biggest fear in that moment wasn't missing but rather the Drifloon targeting him, as floating through a wall wouldn't cause any damage to be done to the Gastly, while the Ghost type's dangerous attacks certainly could. Since the island was floating, William expected the majority of the Pokémon in the pyramid to be Flying types, a reason he was happy to have Nick on board. Ice attacks were powerful, but William's species wasn't too proficient with them.

The Delibird stared down the Drifloon. The ghost was too distracted by Nick to go after Will. After recoving from the Ice Shard, it glanced at the bird with anger and other negative emotions. A dark ball formed in front of it and shot at Nicholas, causing him to fly back on contact. He hit the ground and was still for just a moment. There was a shadow colored smokish thing emerging from the bird, though it wore off soon. Nick got back to his feet. He was tired, but still fighting. The ice type formed more sharp ice and threw it at the balloon, causing more rips and tears as the strange creature shouted in pain.

Luckily the Drifloon was distracted, so William could hit the Togekiss, which he slammed into the wall of the corridor, causing dust and small stones to drop from the ceiling and making both of them cough. As William was too distracted by the coughing to attack, and the Togekiss' confusion caused it to sing a horrendously bad song instead, not much fighting was there to be done between them.
Even in his inability to attack, William found himself wondering. Who had built this pyramid and why? Why was it floating? Why were those Pokémon here? And what was hidden further inside?

Nick got a few more shards at the balloon. After the last rip or two, the ghost decided to flee, but not before it gathered a bundle of the gas it leaked and threw it at Nicholas. The smoke burned Nick's lungs as he breathed and coughed. It vanished soon, but at that point the avian felt a lot weaker, even having trouble standing. The Drifloon was nowhere in sight. Nick got over to Will as fast as he could. At this time, he saw nothing but dust and had trouble choosing his action. He couldn't use an ice shard. It's too risky. Maybe a Present could do it. It couldn't hurt Will but was almost guaranteed to hit the Togekiss. Then again it could end up healing, and it also wasn't too smart to set off an explosion in an enclosed space. Still, keep that idea in the memory bank, juuuust in case. Brick Break was pointless. Looks like all Nick could do at that moment was watch, and so he did.

As the dust had settled again, it revealed both the Togekiss and the Gastly, the former hugging the latter, while the latter tried to get away.
While it was the appeal of the confusion status, the random actions of its target could end up being quite cumbersone as it had been proven in this situation. Since its grip was too strong, William had to resort to other methods. A small usage of the Smog attack into the Togekiss' face caused it to cough, loosening its grip enough to let William escape again. Having regained his freedom, the Gastly floated back to Nick's side, asking:
"So...what should we do with it? We could defeat it or just let it lie there..."

Nick was in a panicked shock as the dust settled. He readied an Ice Shard before realizing it was still too easy to hit William. Thankfully, the ghost managed to take control of the situation and the avian relaxed. William had asked Nick a pretty serious question. After a deep breath, the bird dropped his cold weapon and responded. "Well, I understand self defense and all, but we aren't here to hurt Pokemon, and it looks like it won't be able to hurt us anymore... at least not for a while, so maybe we should just go. Besides, we should save our strength." The bird marched forwards, still keeping an eye on the normal type. He still had that hint of doubt, that little voice telling him that thing was gonna jump up and try to tear into the bird. The thought of it was kind of scary. Eventually, the Togekiss was left in the duo's dust and no longer a worry. Nick managed to speak. "S-sorry for freezing up like that earlier... fire just kinda scares me..."

"Being afraid of things while having a good reason to do so is completely normal. It stops one from doing stupid and dangerous things, so there's nothing to feel bad about. Only if there's fear without reason a problem arises. Fears shape a character. And I myself have some fears as well. Not being afraid means nothing, except carelessness and recklessness. Overcoming ones fears, should the need arise, is, what defines true strength and courage."
William had already expected that descision. Nick was not a ruthless fighter, but rather one, who fought only, should it be absolutely neccessary and even then only as little as possible. While William would have defeathed the Togekiss to eliminate the possiblity of a threat, he respected the Delibird's descision, so they moved on deeper into the pyramid.

"I-i guess you're right." Nick gave a small nod. He knew Will had a point. Still, as far as he saw it, Nick didn't really do much to stand up to that fear, unless you include avoided fainting as standing up. They still managed to get out of there one way or another though. The walk was getting quiet, and kind of awkward. Nick wanted to break the silence. Soon, the bird remembered the story Will was about to tell earlier. "S-so, you joined a guild. You were about to say how that happened, right?" Not the best way to go about it, but certainly not the worst either.

"I was? Well...I helped them with a mission, then they invited me to join, I joined and did more missions with them. There isn't that much to say about it."
William had realized the silence as well, but he felt rather comfortable in it actually. Nevertheless, he realized, that the silence had become awkward for the Delibird, but as he didn't have too many conversations before, he quickly ran out of things to say and the duo descended into silence again as they wandered through the narrow corridors.
Why had all those pathways been built? What did they hide?

"...Oh... well that's nice. I think I already said this, but I really am happy that you decided to go out of the woods, and I hope things work out with you and your team." He gave a small smile before things fell silent and awkward again. This wouldn't last all too long as the pair soon came across a large room. There were torches in it, but they weren't lit. The avian looked around. It seemed this was an older part of the pyramid. There were vines growing out of parts of the wall, and there was a number more cracks, yet it was still pretty dark in general. Still, somehow, something about this room just looked beautiful. Maybe it was how what light there was shined in, maybe it was the plants, but something made this place a sight to see. The Delibird couldn't resist checking the place out.

(The first roll was originally 3 and I know you don't edit but I messed up on coding the second roll.)

"Well...at first it wasn't really my choice and then I couldn't just leave."
William then fell silent again. Not because he had run out of things to say, but because they had reached a surprisingly large chamber, that didn't seem to serve any discernible purpose. Yet, it radiated an aura of obvious importance. Those vines certainly were strange, however. Usually vines wouldn't have seeds, that could reach up here. Did someone specifically plant them here to cause such an effect?
William was just floating in place, contemplating about the various options they had. This chamber was hiding something. But what?

The Delibird continued to wander the room. His movement was slow and kind of everywhere. He took in the sight around him. Hey, sights like these are one of the perks to being an adventurer. It wasn't long until the bird's oddly shaped foot kicked something. It was slow, so it didn't hurt, but it still got Nick to jump back. He looked down and noticed two curious items in front of him. One, which was also what was kicked, was a large-ish and shiny cube. As Nick lifted the cube, the way the weight shifted suggested something was inside, but Nick couldn't figure out how to open it, or even if it could be opened. On top of this box was something not quite as mysterious. It was a seed of some sort. He couldn't tell what kind of seed, but it was a seed. The avian turned to William with a mix of curiosity, confusion, and excitement. "Hey, William, what do ya think these are?"
