» Personality:
Catherine is a go-getter. She is quick to take charge if a group slips towards disorganization, but isn’t necessarily a good leader yet. She has aspirations of being someone of importance, but isn’t quite sure about how she’d even go about becoming such a person. She loves hearing stories of famous dungeon divers and battles, and she has started her own journey to find her own adventure.
She is rash, far more so than others her age. Often, she lets her desire for justice or glory get in the way of more rational thought. She is good hearted, but often blusters her way through situations instead of working with the people involved. There is a strong desire to do good in her, but not much knowledge on how to put that desire to use effectively.
Part of this drive comes from a fear that she doesn’t quite belong. While she loves her adoptive family, she has long felt like a burden to them. Even as she aged, she needed protection and help more than she was able to give either. Given time, her positive attitude about her own abilities and purpose will reveal themselves more to be a desperate hope than genuine belief. She really does care about the people she helps, but wraps too much of her identity up in whether she is able to help with anything and everything.
She is also easily starstruck. In the blink of an eye, the little fruit that bosses anyone and everyone can go completely silent and refuse to respond to even the most basic of questions. Given the right direction and plenty of patience, she can prove to be a thoughtful and even considerate person. Given a place to belong, she will prove to be loyal and dedicated.
» Likes:
- She has a fondness for chilled beverages. Partially frozen treats are her favorite, but she doesn’t know that yet.
- She likes to daydream. If she gets too caught up in one and is asked a question, the answer will usually be somewhere between the two.
- She likes places where pokemon gather. She also likes to claim that it’s because she likes to meet all the new people, but most of them don’t like how aggressively forward she is in asking questions.
- She likes to talk. She says it is helping, but since the only thing she could really do growing up was talk, she has equated the two somewhere along the way.
» Dislikes:
- Being compared to food, being called food... Actually, can we just stop talking about food altogether?
- Slimy things… It's hard to clean off when you are a ball with legs. String shot is a living nightmare to deal with.
- Bug Pokemon… It's because she has a natural fear like any prey, or so she tells herself. However, anything that crawls like a caterpie causes her to feel a shiver deep in her soul.
- She hates feeling like she isn’t helping, or is useless. Given how much her adopted family did to help her, and how little she can do on her own, feeling powerless in a situation distresses her.
» History:
She was born to a family from one of the outer isles. Though life was happy, it was also simple, and her father decided they should head for the mainland in order to give their growing family a future. They hired a Laparas to carry them, and they were off. It was a long journey, but Catherine was able to see a bunch of Pokemon she didn't even know existed. She seemed more excited despite the long hours at sea than scared or worried.
Until they hit the storm. It came out of nowhere, with the fury of the southern wind, and cast the family into the sea. Catherine floated amid the squall, lost and alone until a wave carried her under the surface and everything went black.
She awoke on the shore of a place she didn't recognize. The Pokemon that surrounded her seemed worried, and asked her questions. As they inquired her about her family and what had happened, their faces darkened. Worried she had said something wrong, she apologized, earning sympathetic smiles. Since she couldn't say where exactly they had come from, or where they were going, she was adopted into one of the small community’s families.
Her adopted father was kind. He made a point to take her to the beach every day to see if she could see her family. Her new mother, however, scared her at first, the large pokemon cutting an imposing figure to the small grass type. They were both kind, however, and had an overwhelming amount of patience for their new charge.
Season after season passed, and before she knew it, she had stopped going down to the beach every day to see if she could see anything on the horizon. She embraced the love she felt from her new family, but as she grew older, she began to feel that she was a burden upon them. While they would never tell her such, she knew her inability to contribute was a strain, and she tried her best to figure out ways to help. It didn’t help that they didn’t know any more about her species than she really did herself.
She took a lot from her adopted family. Her adopted mother, who had once been a dungeon delver in her day, would tell her stories of battles and adventures whenever Catherine would feel down. Her adopted father would always complain that she was filling Catherine's head with dreams of grandeur and danger, when she wasn't built like the titan. He was right.
Finally, figuring if she wanted answers about who she was, what she was able to do, and taking the strain off of her adopted family, she would have to leave. Since she couldn’t carry anything, she waited until a quiet night and headed down the road.
