| Zorre shifted uncomfortably. That sounded a lot like something he vaguely remembered from his childhood as a feral. When his parents would find pokemon, feral or otherwise, in their territory, they would attack without mercy. If they didn't chase or kill the perpetrator, sometimes they would take the pokemon captive and force them to forage food for the family. He distinctly remembered his parents indicating that they were to use a couple of them for training fodder, and several dismembered corpses, some from his own blades. "Bad!" he gasped, shaking his head, not wanting to remember these memories from when he was a child. He looked back up at Lapis. "Civilized thought better pokemon I did!" He protested, not wanting to think that civilized pokemon were anything like the feral pokemon he grew up around. | |

| Lapis was surprised at Zorre's mini outburst.
"Huh, no, no, it's not bad. I agree to this, I rather like it. It gives me a sense of security and being able to be lead. They're not mean about it. Plus, I get their love and attention when I do what they ask."
From one parent, anyway. Lapis's adoptive mother was always supportive of her, and took care of her, while her adopted father, on the other hand, took advantage of his servants whenever possible. He also took them for granted, especially Lapis, as he would yell at them if they weren't "fast enough" or didn't do it exactly how he wanted it when he wanted it. He expected them to be able to carry out even the simplest commands like "make me a sandwich" exactly how he wanted it, even though he never specified anything. If they asked, he'd shush them and claim to be busy. That was the only thing she didn't like, and for the longest time, Lapis thought all men were that way. Until she met Zorre.

| "Want why you that would?" Zorre stared at Lapis incredulously. He couldn't understand why she would accept being treated like that. Were civilized pokemon weird in that they actually liked being treated like a renewable resource that could just be kicked around any time the owners had a bad day? | |

| Lapis didn't know how to describe it. She silently drank from her Pecha Berry shake and thought a moment. She needed some sort of guidance through her life, more so than just rules to follow, so being told what to do all the time kept her busy and not having to make her own decisions. Having someone else lead your life was just so much more simple.
"I like having and knowing what to do all the time, and I don't like making my own decisions. I grew up being used to it, so it's just how I am now..."
She didn't know how else to explain it without repeating herself. She hated being repetitive. She hated a lot of things about herself.

| Zorre noticed that the topic seemed to be making his newest friend uncomfortable, so he decided to change the subject. It was just one more thing that he didn't really understand about civilized pokemon. He looked around for a different subject to talk about.
He raised his head as he heard some bird pokemon fly overhead, twittering to each other in a musical version of the feral tongue. he smiled serenely. He had a topic for conversation. "Sing, like you do?" he asked curiously. He personally loved listening to pokemon sing, though he only ever sang in his own feral tongue where he wouldn't mess up the words.

| When Zorre brought up singing, Lapis blushed with a look of surprise on her face. Lapis only sung sweet songs, with meaning, quiet ones that spoke her thoughts and melodies that were catchy and kind on the ear. She couldn't tell whether the mantis was asking her to sing right now, but she nodded.
"Yes, I sing sometimes. Do you have any musical involvements as well?"
Lapis could never picture a giant, awkward-voiced reptilian-appearing insect being able to sing, however his brute strength might be good for one melodic job. Percussion instruments. The Goomy always dreamed of playing the piano, or perhaps an ukulele, but sadly the slug hadn't any arms to do so. Even though the creature before her didn't have fingers, so didn't a lot of other Pokemon, and they learned piano just fine. Maybe he could even play the drums--hopefully without ripping the drum heads off.

| Zorre shook his head. "Instruments I not play. Sing, tongue native though," he admitted shyly, his blush returning to his cheeks. He had always liked singing. He wondered what sort of songs his newest friend sung, though.
He glanced away from her, not wanting to seem rude by staring at her too long even though they were in conversation. He knew that some pokemon were made uncomfortable by continuous staring.

| Lapis attempted to nod in understanding, breathing an ah as he explained he could sing. But native style? Hopefully it wasn't like how the Goomy was imagining it now, a strange tribal song... She continued looking him in the eyes, as if he were about to sing, and leaned in for her straw. The cup was empty now, which surprised the small Pokemon. She didn't want anything else, but the waitress came over and asked anyway, just as she is required to do. Lapis shook her head upon the question that reoccurred with every customer, and then prepared a bill to place on the table, looking to Zorre, her eyes inquiring, "And you?" | |

| Zorre turned to acknowledge the waitress and shook his head as she wondered if he wanted anything more. He pulled out a bag of poke and prepared to pay for their drinks. "Treat, mine it is," he added to the Goomy, hoping that she would let him pay for her -it was only polite of him to do so. | |

| Lapis' antennae perked and then flattened quickly when she heard what Zorre said. "Oh, no, that wasn't what I meant... I was wondering if you wanted anything else, but I suppose not. Really, it's not too much trouble if I pay for my own," she claimed, hesitating to reach for the bill as she would have to take it with a fold of her body. Some Pokemon would take such a thing the wrong way, anyway; trying to do a kind deed only to be rejected. The Goomy was terrible at decision making, she almost wished someone would do it for her. Just like the way things were when she was a servant... | |

| Zorre wasn't sure what to do. On the one hand, it was only polite for him to pay for the lady; on the other, she was insisting that she pay for her own, yet she hadn't grabbed the bill. Was it something civilized pokemon knew the etiquette to and he could not understand?
He hesitated. "Sure, are you?" he asked again, unsure of what the goomy truly wanted of him.

| Lapis
Now Lapis hard truly caught herself in the net, and there was no escaping now. She didn't necessarily want to pay for it, but it was a proper thing to do. "I am certain. My parents left me a lot of money; it's no problem at all."
The more she thought about it, the more her choice made sense. Her parents probably left the sophisticated Goomy more poké than most were able to earn. There was a benefit to that, but also the possibility of striking greed, or even the covet of others. Despite Zorre's kind offer, she had to do what was better. She might've accepted if things were the other way around, but now she had to pay. With her antennae, she placed the exact poké amount, plus a generous tip that covered 20% of both totals, and neatly stacked them in a sorted manner. Cash tips did far better than check ones, that she knew from experience.
