Search for that Treasure!

Soaring in the skies above the fiery chasm below, a prehistoric pokemon gave a screech as he circled a portion of it. His wings were spread as he slowly descended onto the ground below him. He finally landed after finding the best place to land, which was pretty much everywhere there wasn't any lava.The archeops landed a little clumsily, not quite perfecting his landing due to only just recently having evolved. He waited for his passenger to hop off, as he surveyed the area.

They were here in search of the treasure that the Xatu had seen. The being that stared at the sun had come around town and even to the guild, spreading his riddle of this new treasure that would surely bring them riches.

"Thanks," I guess... the archeops thought, becoming a bit silent. They had been here for quite a while now, and he was beginning to doubt the existence of a treasure in this area. His hopes died along with his strength, the day overall had been quite a long one, he had figured the reason that the eevee wasn't toppled over at the moment was because of the berries and the wish from the cyndaquil and fennekin, either that or his own stubbornness. Acro could only look onto the seemingly desolate land, which seemed to be void of any life other than them at the moment...

Sova stopped for a moment. They had walked so long, he was starting to get sick of walking. "We're....never gonna find anything, are we?" He asked, looking for the archeops' opinion. He didn't really see any signs of a treasure anywhere, just more rocks and more lava. It would be night in not too long. They had been there quite a while. He wanted to end the search for the treasure in a place he didn't think he'd be able to find it at and start looking somewhere else.

The archeops merely shrugged, "For all we know we could have walked right past it. It's probably not like its just going to appear before us..." he was attempting to be optimistic, "Maybe if we keep searching, we'll find it eventually! Just because a few fruitless hours or so of nothing doesn't mean there's nothing here!"
Despite his "optimism" he was feeling a bit depressed, as cliche as it is, talking about one's past with one such as his isn't quite a good method of picking up his mood.

20 pages later. "We'll find it eventually!"

"I guess sticking around longer couldn't hurt. After all, we don't really have any way to know where the treasure is, so staying and looking here longer seems about as good as looking somewhere else...." Sova said. Staying seemed to be about as good of a plan as leaving, but something the archeops said made the eevee start thinking.

"You're right though, it's probably not gonna just poof up in front of us. If it's such a big treasure, it's probably hidden somewhere....what would be a good hiding place for a treasure in a place like this?" He asked. Hopefully his more experienced escort would have some suggestions.

"Well, usually these kind of things are hidden away in some kind of temple, tunnel, cave, something where it can't just be randomly stumbled upon..." Acro spoke. "If someone placed the treasure there then they obviously didn't want it to get looted. Of course whoever placed it is probably long gone by now though," he continued after a pause. He looked to the eevee, "I haven't ever actually found a treasure though..." he added onto it. He may have been strong and slightly known as an explorer, but that didn't quite mean that he had been rather successful in the art of actually exploring.

"Hmm....We'd notice a temple. A tunnel or a cave would be pretty easy to spot too....unless...." Sova stopped for a moment to consider something. "The only place we wouldn't be able to see a cave or a tunnel here is a magma pit." He said, looking disappointed. Hopefully he was wrong, but if he was right, they would probably never find the treasure.

He didn't care much that the archeops hadn't ever found a treasure. After all, he hadn't either. As far as he was concerned, Acro was a great explorer.

"Well you ARE an Eevee so you could just go Flareon and dive in" Acro spoke.
"Well, it could be behind some kind of boulder? Very few fire types can actually withstand Lava I think, and if they tried going through the lava, either they or the treasure would burn up wouldn't it?" Acro asked, the gears of logic finally turning in his puny bird-brain. He tilted his head, looking around for any large and obvious boulders that may have been blocking an entrance. Who knew? Maybe it was in the ground in a pitfall trap. There were actually many ways to hide a treasure...the archeops hadn't ever really thought of this until now.

"Flame on!" Sova yelled.

"Well....what about fake lava? Like....some kind of illusion." Sova suggested. Hearing it loud made him realize how stupid it sounded, but he figured it was at least possible. What harm could it do to point out the possibility? After all, anything was better than wandering around aimlessly. To him at least.

Though, the thought of a cave being blocked by a boulder seemed reasonable. More reasonable than lava, but he still figured they would be able to notice something like that easily. He hadn't noticed anything that seemed like it could be a boulder blocking a cave, at least.

"Well if it was an illusion, then something would need to keep up that illusion, which I don't see how that's possible unless whoever placed it had done it just recently or some kind of pokemon-family line of guardians are protecting the treasure, in which case it would not be wise to take the treasure period.." he spoke, feeling a bit more useful with his various ideas. He didn't quite get that the eevee already figured that the idea didn't work, so he seemed to accidentally beat a dead horse, the horse being the idea. He studied the landscape, "It also could have been a small pokemon, or a ghost type...or even a flying pokemon that had placed it there..."

Sova sighed. "We'll never find it if we have nothing to go off of...." He thought for a moment. "All Xatu gave was a vague riddle about the general area the treasure was in.... And this area seems like one of the most likely. But there's still so many possible places here where it could be." He said, showing his growing disappointment. He had already decided they almost certainly wouldn't find the treasure and couldn't think of the best way to go about looking for it.

Giving up actually started to seem like the best and only sensible option. They'd been in multiple dangerous fights already and gotten nothing out of it. They weren't likely to find the treasure. What point was there in staying?

The archeops thought for a moment, "Maybe...it would be the best idea to go back, perhaps re-think things a bit and come back later?" he finally suggested, as much as he disliked giving up, he had to admit that maybe it wasn't the brightest idea to charge into something without a more certain idea or clue. Acro stopped and looked to the eevee, waiting for a response. This expedition was the eevee's, not his really. He figured Sova should call the shots on whether or not the duo stayed or left.

Sova looked back, then forward again. "Even if we decide to leave, I'm not sure which way would be the faster way out, going forward or backtracking...." He said, continuing to look around. He actually had no clue which way would be more efficient. "Think you could fly up again and see? I mean if you don't want to, that's fine....we can just pick a direction and go with it." He continued, trying to be considerate.

He'd noticed how rough the archeops' landings were and assumed the bird wasn't particularly good at flying at the moment for some reason. He certainly didn't want to be the cause of his ally falling out of the sky or something.

"Wouldn't it be easier to just have you come with me and we both fly back to Grassveil?" Acro asked.
Why have him fly so high all by himself only to come back down and walk, when he can just have the eevee climb on and fly back to Grassveil? It would be extremely tiring, but they would get back faster and easier. If they were lucky then he could just ride on some wind instead of having to continuously flap his poor wings that he had neglected to prepare before evolution.

Sova looked to the archeops. "Alright, if you're up to it. I just don't wanna be a burden." He didn't want to say it, but riding with Acro was a lot more enticing than walking all the way back. He took one last look around, hoping to see something indicating the presence of any treasure. Nothing but more rocks and lava. Not that he expected anything different at this point.

The archeops waited for the eevee to board the S.S. Acro for flight, before having a running take off with the eevee clinging to his back. It was rather heavy and tiring, but once he had gotten high enough for the winds to take control, he allowed himself to drift on them. They were luckily pointing directly towards Grassveil, the place that held the guild, his home. He couldn't wait to go back and get some rest, although he was a bit disappointed that the expedition turned out to be a dud. Who knew though, maybe they would come back, maybe when they came back, they would find the treasure, or someone else would find it. Either way, odds were that the treasure was going to be found sooner or later, whether it was him with someone else or not.
