Even when you catch them, the things slip from your grasp; they fade into nothingness.
Most of them, anyway. There's one you've managed to hold on to, but it's such a small one; so weak as to be insignificant.
You hold onto it anyway. You cling to it, for it is still more than you once had.

When you first awoke here, in this place that is not a place, you held them all within you. You do not quite remember what you did with them, when they were yours. A vague sadness always comes over you whenever you try to think back to the before.
By contrast, you can clearly remember the time (though it is not, in fact, time as you once perceived it. Even with such a small scrap of memory, this is clear to you) when the past slipped away. You panicked; you -
