Adopting Vulcana the Larvesta Empty
PostSubject: Adopting Vulcana the Larvesta   Adopting Vulcana the Larvesta EmptyWed Jan 22, 2020 9:49 pm

» Name: Vulcana
» Gender: Female
» Species: #636 Larvesta, the Torch Pokémon
» Affiliation/Rank: Wanderer

» Why do you want to adopt them?: I’ve never actually had a character that started from rock bottom in terms of strength. Technically there’s Acro and Proteus, but they weren’t ever truly rock bottom and neither of them actively sought to train themselves. Vulcana has a whole life of challenges ahead of her that I’d like to bring her through and help her find her flame.

She’s a total cutie who needs attention and besides, it’s an absolute shame that not a single Volcarona has managed to make it to the site. People take one look at Larvesta and its evolution level and often turn away from it even with the level assistance rule. I am fully willing to deal with being a little tiny scrub for so many levels and help her work her way to the big leagues as a Volcarona since her previous adopted couldn’t. It’ll be a long road even with something like the Cursed Blessing and a few Happy Meals, but I can make it work.

Despite being shy and soft-spoken, there’s a lot of potential for her to grow into all kinds of different directions during her journey to achieve greater strength. While I don’t think she’d become a downright evil outlaw, I get the feeling that power-should she reach it- could easily get to her head as she struggles for even more. With the proper interactions and development, it’s also entirely possible to become a righteous rescue team member who seeks to help those who were once as weak as her. It’d be very interesting to see where a character like her goes!

» Sample of roleplay:

Well, she wasn’t sure where that metang ran off to, but she was awfully disappointed that he had. They made so much progress together! Well, it was one single flame that lasted all of a second-but it wasn’t nothing! She sighed as she skittered along the bottom of the forest floor. Her focus was kept on the path ahead of her, but she couldn’t help but be a little concerned of her whereabouts.

She was all by herself in the midst of a forest full of other bugs and grass types. It was something a larvesta like her should have wandered in with confidence, but she didn’t exactly have the advantage a normal larva had. She was different. She was weak. She sighed to herself as she tried to keep low and out of any potential wandering eyes. Perhaps she’d run into another fire type while she was out here? One that was training-and they could help her train! Her spirits were low despite her enthusiasm towards the idea. What were the odds?

Especially since she had absolutely no idea where she was currently headed. The forest was as vast as it was dark, seemingly endless from a ground’s eye view. She paused for a brief second to look up at the trees. She could get up top and have a look around...it’d only be brief-so not many should see her, right?

Vulcana hesitated, but it ended once a strand of silk spat out from her mouth and attached itself to the branch of a tree. Tiny limbs clambered onto the makeshift rope and climbed up to the branch. Once she reached the top, she unhooked the string and allowed it to fall to the forest floor. She skittered up and up as high as the seemingly gargantuan tree would take her. Her head poked through the canopy of leaves and peered over the blanket of green laid out before her. Why-it seemed as if this place never ended!

She looked left, she looked right, she even took a look around behind her-oh? What’s that? Her attention was caught by a plume of smoke in the distance. It seemed so small from here, but she could just barely see a jet of flames tear through the trees and rocket into the sky above. It was a flame far greater than the likes she’d ever seen! Her eyes sparkled at the sight of it. A fire that strong had to come from a fire pokemon! She just knew it!

As quick as she could, she wriggled her way back down into the tree branches. Twigs tore at her fuzzy coat while leaves brushed in her face. She looked back down to the forest floor, a split-second decision resulted in the idea that travel on foot would be too slow. She needed to get there fast, before the source of those flames moved on without her. She looked over at a branch in the distance and spat at the limb without a second thought. She leaped off of the current branch and swung off through the air. If she timed this just right, then she could really make some distance.

The larva released the string, but a little too late. Instead of flying off into the distance, she wasn’t really flung anywhere at all. The string fell off to a dangle as she flailed about in the air, falling back down pathetically. A bush broke her fall, but that didn’t stop the sheer embarrassment she felt from the failed attempt of web-slinging action. A small groan echoed from her as she struggled to right herself back onto her feet. sticks, leaves, and sap clung to her like glue, but she wasn't disheartened just yet.

She abandoned the plan of becoming Spider-Larvesta and hurried along the forest floor as quickly as her little legs could take her. Her upper-arms waved about uselessly as worried hums and whines egged her on. The distance was a lot farther than she thought, she'd begun to worry that the pokemon would leave by the time she got there. The smell of something burning reached her as ash began to cloud the air around her. She could hear the crackles and breaths of fire still as she approached. There was still hope!

'C'mon, you can do this.' she encouraged herself. She would just need to approach them, introduce herself, and ask that they show her how to do that fire-thing. Then they'll be nice and help her out! She might even have flames out of her horns by nightfall! Hopes revitalized, she scurried along. Her legs begged her to stop as she struggled for breath, but nothing could stop her now! Well, there was a lot of things that could stop her, but nothing that was likely to happen in that moment, right?

She broke through a wall of underbrush to the scene. Her eyes beheld quite the sight to see. A massive red and yellow pokemon bellowed flames upon the nearby scenery. Flames spewed from both its rear and its face, but the stomach of the creature seemed just as hot with how they glowed like stove-tops. She watched in awe as the Centiskorch unleashed its fiery wrath upon the flora, burning every beautiful flower and tree into a pile of ash while the flames of its attack spread onward to deal even more destruction.

In sheer awe, she could only watch the centiskorch at first, her gaze held on the flames of the pokemon. How powerful they were! She had to know the secret! As much as she wanted to speak up, something held her back. What if it mocked her for it? What if it didn't want to teach anyone? Despite now being riddled with self-doubt, she skittered forward step by step, the massive pokemon's back to her. Once she was close, she spoke, "H-Hello? Mr. Fire-Pokemon?" she squeaked.

The fire type didn't hear her. Instead, it took to unleashing the flames onto the trunk of a tree. Her little hands poked together with uncertainty. Driven by determination, however, she crawled forward and reached out a hand to tap on one of the centipede’s many legs. Before she could, the tree he worked away on began to snap and crackle. The loud noise rang through the air and startled her. A mortified squeak sounded out, much louder than she could ever hope to speak.

The centiskorch twisted its body around as the tree it thoroughly assaulted collapsed in front of him. His gaze looked left, then right, before he focused down on the cowered figure of the larvesta before him. One of the centiscorch’s facial flame quirked upward as he watched the shivering figure. “Is there a problem?” his deep voice grumbled.

Vulcana forced herself to look up at the pokemon. The way it towered over her only added fuel to the fire of her fear. Perhaps this was a mistake? Despite that, she poked her hands together and looked up at the creature. She spoke quietly, barely audible over the blaze that steadily grew behind the other bug, “UmHiCanYouShowMeHowToDoThat?”

The larger pokemon shook his head, at first she was fearful that it was a rejection, but his words clarified, “Honey, I can’t hear you when you talk so quietly. Speak louder.”

“Ooh-uh, CAN YOU SHOW ME HOW TO DO THAT!?” she shouted-which honestly wasn’t that much of one in her case. It was more like a very loud whisper.

At the very least the centiskorch heard her. He looked back at the damage he’d caused briefly before he looked back to her. A claw pointed in the direction of the destruction, “That?” he questioned. She nodded. He looked confused. “Uh...you kinda just...do it…?”

“BUT I CAN’T?” she responded.

Now the centiskorch looked even more confused. It was at this point that she figured that she might as well demonstrate. She focused as hard as she could, took in a deep breath, tried to recall everything Adamantine taught her, she struggled, she strained, she quivered with effort and...plumes of smoke puffed out of her horns. With a disappointed whine, she looked up at the bug type that stared back her. It took him a moment to absorb this information...before he burst into laughter.

“O-Oh…” her voice wavered as the boisterous laughs of the centiskorch had him in smokey tears. Shame flooded through her as she backed away from the bug. Immediately, she knew the answer to her question right away: he wasn’t going to help. Humiliated, her eyes watered with a whole different emotion. Frustration flared as she became defensive, “H-HEY! D-DON’T LAUGH AT ME! I-I JUST NEED A LITTLE HELP, M-MY FATHER ISN’T A VOLCARONA S-SO-”

“Pipe down half-breed!” the centiskorch dismissed her defensive attitude once he’d recovered from his little episode. “There ain’t no fixin that kind of broke!”

...Broke? The fury faded. It felt as if the bug had shot her right through the heart.

“Now get the hell outta here, I gotta find the jerkward who didn’t pay up on their protection this month!” the Centiskorch huffed, “And when I do, it aint gonna be pretty.” The pokemon didn’t wait for her response. She lifted an arm to hopefully get his attention and ask a question, but he turned and crawled over the torched tree. He disappeared into the blaze of the fire, which only began to spread and grow by the second.

Obediently, she turned and headed back the way she came. The fire left behind now more of a mockery of her weakness than it was a wonder to behold. That was a bust. She’d just have to find someone else to help her then. While she was down in spirits, her heart remained strong. The centiskorch said she was broken, but no matter what, all broken things could be fixed, right? Her mom and dad were confident that she’d be able to do it someday-why would they encourage her if she couldn’t?

Vulcana hummed to herself as she skittered back, a low and lonely tune that was barely audible over the flames that pursued her. Eventually she overtook the slow burning foliage, disappearing herself into the darkness of the vast forest. Perhaps she could find someone a little friendlier if she just looked around again? If she was lucky enough to come across one fire type, perhaps it could happen again!
