(Up for Adoption) Dragunov the Skorupi Empty
PostSubject: (Up for Adoption) Dragunov the Skorupi   (Up for Adoption) Dragunov the Skorupi EmptyMon May 16, 2016 6:00 pm

» Name: Dragunov
» Sex: Male
» Gender: Male
» Species: #451 Skorupi: Scorpion Pokémon
» Affiliation: None

» Level: 5
» Energy: 19
» Ability: Sniper
» Moves:
-Poison Tail (Egg Move)
-Bite (Level 1)
-Leer (Level 1)
-Knock Off (Level 5)

» Natural Feats:
-Tail Claws: A Skorupi’s tail can inject a delayed poison into foes when the claws have closed, and it is capable of clinging on to its victim until the poison takes effect. An opponent capable of intangibility or one possessing any kind of poison immunity wouldn't be affected, and those with Flame Body and Static could retaliate with these abilities.
-Survival: A Skorupi is capable of surviving an entire year without food.
-Sniper: By using pinpoint-precision in his attacks, Dragunov can deal 50% extra damage when landing a critical hit.

» Personality:
Dragunov can easily be called a aspiring brawler, through and through. Despite not being a Fighting type he thrives under similar conditions to them: when trading blows. This has the drawback of him being quite hard-headed and stubborn, refusing to admit defeat even when it is so blatantly obvious. Such a characteristic has resulted in a few failures within dungeons but he refuses to let this deject him, a tenacious side pulling him onwards towards the next day. Borderline blockhead or not, he understands that he still has much to learn.

When not in battles he is often rather serious and focused, frequently desiring to train and improve on what he currently has whilst still being open to some modifications if they don't detract too much from his desired style of a point blank beatdown. Dragunov is also rather eager, open, and interested in dungeon explorations as a method of improving himself in such a way, but he doesn't hold any particular interest in joining an exploration guild. He prefers to work on his own instead of with this kind of large and organised group yet he will settle for a teammate so long as they don't mind the occasional spar.

Obviously, he would find an ideal teammate in a Fighting type and could warm up to having such an ally should the two team up on a regular basis. Sharing his past also wouldn't be out of the question if someone were willing to hear him out.

» Likes:
Close range fighting: As already indicated, Dragunov absolutely loves such a battle, practically living for it. This reaches the point where he would never turn down a challenge from a Fighting type Pokémon even if he would obviously lose. This also feeds into a fondness towards the Fighting type as a whole, since many of them fight in such a way.

Using his tail, for moves or otherwise: Whether using his natural poison or the Poison Tail move that he inherited from his father Scolipede, he enjoys employing the use of his tail in battles. A favorite trick of his is to thrust his tail forwards in a sudden Poison Tail after blocking the opposing attack, and he tends to point it high and wave it around when out of combat as an intimidation/bragging/taunting method.

Solo explorations: He found his way to Grassveil Town after a significant amount of time spent wandering around in the middle of nowhere and views himself as incredibly self-sufficient and independent. He won't complain about having one or two teammates however, it's simply a preference.

His Scolipede father: Not only was Dragunov's favorite move Poison Tail passed down from him, he still remembers watching all of his battles and holds a great deal of respect for him. He hopes to one day evolve and reunite with him, to make him proud and reignite his spirit.

» Dislikes:
Psychic types: As a result of the type very frequently employing ranged moves, in addition to his typing disadvantage, and a certain Metagross, he has developed a strong dislike towards the Psychic type. It greatly frustrates him that they are able to take full control of any battle they have with him and he is also rather distrusting of any dungeon partners of this type, the only ones he is remotely willing to co-operate with being the primarily physical attacking Meditite, Medicham, and Gallade. Metagross on the other hand...

Outright criticism of his style: He grew up watching the benefits of a close approach and has tirelessly tried to emulate this himself. Anyone attempting to point out the gaping holes and weaknesses of this fighting method would receive an annoyed reaction or a cold shoulder. He can't help but consider it a personal insult, what he'd rather hear is a compliment of it followed by an idea for some form of improvement.

Cowardice: Simply put, this is what he perceives in all the Psychic type Pokémon that he's struggled with. He has little understanding of their actual reasons for long range fights, such as physical frailty making this impractical or their typical moves simply being easier to use and so he can jump to the wrong conclusion if given the opportunity. It would take some explaining and effort to disabuse him of this particular notion. When actually directed at someone of a timid disposition, he can be a hard yet well-intentioned task driver.

Any and all Metagross: Oooh boy... He hates this Pokémon species far and above any Psychic type out there as a result of the utter humiliation dished out to his father by one of them. Absolutely nothing will ever convince him to play nice with the Iron Leg Pokémon, one could compare this to the famous feud between Zangoose and Seviper.

» History:
Dragunov was hatched as the only child to a Drapion mother and a Scolipede father, not far off from Grima Outpost. He spent the earliest part of his life close to his mother until the father, a few months after the Skorupi hatched, begun developing an interest in the newly established fighting tournaments which had started up nearby. The young Skorupi soon started witnessing him frequently practice his moves in anticipation of these and found himself also nurturing a desire to do just this.

It was ultimately a pipe dream though, and he instead continued to obverve. Within a two year period, the Megapede Pokémon had becone a veritable titan in the battlefield as the mother and child watched a substantial win streak slowly beginning to develop. He greatly revered his father by this point, who had become a sort of rising star. Dragunov remembers this time as being the happiest in his life.

But then, everything changed when the Fire Nation Metagross attacked...

In one matchup like any other, the opponent was a Metagross who had been forecast as a dark horse. A potential upset within the tournament. Dragunov wasn't concerned, but what occured next would devastate him.

After the two fighters traded Megahorn and Meteor Mash hits, the Metagross calculated a more careful approach and begun to pelt its opponent from a distance with frequent shots of Confusion, one of which greatly unsteadied him. A Rock Slide barrage was enough to end the match, the tournament, and his streak.

Not only that, the dream was also gone. His father retired afterwards, too dejected to vie for a rematch. The tournaments soon stopped afterwards but they were now of little concern to the Skorupi. Seeing the knockback effect of that loss had personally hurt him, and he angrily ran away one night in an attempt to chase that Metagross to the ends of the very planet and beyond. He wanted to do unto Metagross what it had done to his father.

He never found the said Metagross again and soon found himself far away from home and hopelessly lost, only surviving as a result of a Skorupi's natural ability to last a ridiculously long period of time without food. He continued wandering, having encountered and lost against plenty of other Psychic type Pokémon along the way, before finally stumbling into a town called Grassveil. As much as he hated to admit it, he had no idea where the Metagross had gone and so he decided to set up a new home in the town, indefinitely shelving his personal feelings in favor of personal survival.

A few days were necessary for him to recover his strength after the journey, the result of such a trek having solidified the ideal he already had: To get somewhere in this world, one must be strong. He hadn't reached this ideal yet, and is now devoting his time to do so.

PostSubject: Re: (Up for Adoption) Dragunov the Skorupi   (Up for Adoption) Dragunov the Skorupi EmptyThu May 19, 2016 12:36 am

Sorry, your Character Bio cannot be approved due to the following reasons:

1.) JOHN CENA HISTORY

So your character's dad just decides one day to enter a tournament for no reason, then discovers he's some kind of fighting prodigy.  Why did he want to fight, and more importantly, how in the world is he that capable of a fighter?  Did he have prior experience?  Were the other fighters just not very experienced?  Is he the legend himself, JOHN CENA?  I doubt a brief period of training would be enough to carry someone through 99 straight matches against competent fighters.

Another issue with the history is that you seem to refer to side-characters by their species as if using a proper name.  For instance, you refer to the character's father as "Scolipede," not by a name or even "THE Scolepede."  This implies his father's name is literally Scolipede.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to message any of the Secretaries. May it be through the Chatbox or through Private Messaging, we will tend to your concerns as soon as we can. Please fix your bio accordingly so that we may be able to approve it. Once you have completed your edits, either bump this thread or message us.

(Up for Adoption) Dragunov the Skorupi Empty
PostSubject: Re: (Up for Adoption) Dragunov the Skorupi   (Up for Adoption) Dragunov the Skorupi EmptyFri May 20, 2016 10:42 pm

Yeah, 99 wins did feel cliche but I was after a compelling reason for the son to relentlessly chase down that one Pokémon. I've tried to downplay this a bit by increasing the timeframe of that training montage and leaving the exact number of wins up to the imagination, yet still indicating it to be not as big as 99.

As for the second concern, I started to get worried about overusing the word “the“ when talking about those characters but didn't know how to otherwise resolve it. That's fixed too.

I'm otherwise glad that there were no problems brought up with the Skorupi himself. Bumped for you.
