An Adventure between two non-combatants

Giles took another look at his mental list of places he still needed to visit. He has already been to the Northeastern Mountains, the West…twice, and around Grassveil. He still has to go to many places in this world, but he decided that he was going to wait until he got stronger. Rainforest Town was not that far away from Grassveil, and he has not ventured through there yet, so that is where he went. The town itself was not much of interest to the shuckle, but everything around it.

He heard of a hill that pokemon of his strength often go to. It was surrounded by woods, “probably another dungeon,” thought Giles. He gave the woods a good look. “I’m not sure if I can handle this all on my own. Well, it looks like I am going to have to find out now aren’t I?”

It seemed to Giles that Nira was at first confused by what he was doing. Eventually she seemed to put things together and saw it. Apparently the web would not work. “Oh well, worth the try,” thought Giles. “Well it’s a good thing that I asked huh? That’s why you’re the medic! With all of that training and knowledge and whatnot,” he said.

He covered up the web with some nearby leaves so that way no pokemon would get caught in is experiment. “We wouldn’t want anyone to step on this would we? Then we’d really need your medical help.”

Niracamda nodded. The idea was interesting and worth investigating but she really didn't think it would work. There was nothing wrong with thinking about new ideas. The sniny Houndour stood up. it was better that they got moving again. She didn't want to come across any more ferals.

Niracamda watched as Giles covered the web with leaves. It was not really true what the Shuckle said. "I doubt it actually. I think burning the web would be a lot more efficient. The leaves do prevent Pokemon to get stuck in it though." The Houndour looked around for a moment before she spoke up again. "Maybe we should try to find the exit. Neither of us really want to fight against those ferals. What do you think?

Giles realized that Nira was right in burning the wed. He was just so used to think outside of the box for something like this because he is often on his lonesome. “You’re right, I’m just not having a fire companion with me, feel free to burn it,” he said. Giles was beginning to think that Nira was more right than not.

That idea was furthered when she mentioned that they should try and get out. He gave off a sigh of relief when she said that, he did not have the ability to save them if it came to it, and she just would not. “Well, we weren’t all that far from the entrance right? So as long as we pick the right direction we should be back in no time!”

Niracamda nodded. The small Houndour concentrated on the web before spitting some small flames on it. She had to be careful to not cause any forest fires around here. One wrong attack and the whole forest was put ablaze. It was why those living in a forest were so scared of fire types. One wrong attack and their homes could be destroyed.

Niracamda watched how the web got burned away and sat there until the fire had gone out. "Ok, we should try to find the exit now. Eh.... What way was it again?" Niracamda looked around for a minute. The forest did seem the same. The shiny Houndour got up and walked around as she sniffed the ground, trying to smell were they came from. "I'm not that used to doing this....Wait..." Niracamda stopped for a moment. "I think I know the way back. It's this way." The Houndour pointed with her nose towards the direction they came from. They would be able to find the exit there.

The shuckle nodded in agreement that he thought that the entrance was indeed that way. Seeing how they both thought that it was the right way, he thought that surely they must be right. Thankfully they were. Giles recognized some rocks and whatnot so it indicated to him that they were somewhere nearby the entrance. Right as Giles was going to say something about the fact that they must be close by, he heard the cry of a pokemon.
 

He was not discerning enough to tell what the pokemon was, but he figured the general area of the pokemon. As fast as he could, so not at all, he “ran” off in the direction of the cry. He got in eye shot of the pokemon in question. He saw a fletchling whose wings were holding on to its leg. Above the injured pokemon was another one, a gastly that was looking quite menacingly. “Oh shoot, I don’t want to get in another fight,” he said.

Niracamda walked with her companion towards the exit. She was happy that she managed to find something interesting while exploring this place. She also managed to make a new friend. The small Houndour was already thinking about what she would do next once she got out of there. A sudden cry interrupted her thoughts.

The shiny Houndour looked around confused. She was sure she heard something. When she turned around to ask Giles if he had heard something, she saw him go off between the trees. That answered her question.

As Niracamda followed him, she realized what she source of that cry was. It seemed a Ghastly had attacked what seemed to be a Fletchling. The Houndour could hear how Giles said he didn't want to get in another fight but she didn't care. Niracamda ran forward and stood inbetween the bird and the ghost. "Please, let this Fletchling be. They are hurt." The Houndour spoke towards the Ghastly politely. She hoped it would listen to her.

“Apparently for being a pacifist, Nira does not worry about a fight,” thought Giles. He quickly thought up the odds of what might happen. Three against one, hopefully that the ghastly would get the message. Nira spoke up trying to have the ghastly just leave. “We are just… having a conversation here… aren’t we Fletchling?” it said. The fletchling cringed in pain as the ghastly seemed to apply some sort of invisible pressure on the pokemon. Giles spoke up, “look here you. You better leave before things get ugly. You know the typing. My friend here can pack a mean punch against you. And I’m no push over either, so you better get packing!”
 

Giles was a bit nervous here. He thought that this might actually escalate into a fight and if this fails, they can’t just scare it off like the two did with the kricketune. Nira won’t fight, and Giles’ hit will do next to nothing against the ghost. He really hoped that this would work.

The Ghastly stared unsure at the Houndour before him. The hound didn't look like a fighter at all. She had asked him to leave the bird alone after all. The Ghastly looked back at the Shuckle who had spoken up. He could tell he was nervous. A malicious grin creeped over his face. "You almost had me fooled there. It is true a Houndour might be a problel for me, but I can tell you are bluffing. Nice try, Shuckle."

Niracamda stared at the Ghastly. She had been a bit confused when Giles had said all that about her while he knew she didn't fight. Of course, she understood what he had tried to do. He wanted to scare the Ghastly away. The shiny Houndour had hoped it would work but the Ghastly didn't fall for it. She didn't look like a fighter at all.
Niracamda wondered what would happen next. She didn't like the grin on the face of the Ghastly.

While Giles did not want this outcome, he was expecting it. He knew that this plan of his was going to be a stretch. Nira just does not have it in her to show that she will fight the ghastly. Giles seemed to have put them in quite the predicament. Out of the three of them, none are willing to back down. However, one is willing to fight. Giles thought that Nira will not and he does not think that he is capable enough to take on the ghost type. “For the fletchling’s sake, I’m going to have to try,” he thought.

“What’s the matter shuckle? Don’t you want to play?” taunted the ghastly. He knew that he had to do something. After thinking everything through, he settled on his action. He worked up an acid and shot it straight at the ghastly hoping that he could catch it off guard. “I said, leave the fletchling alone!”

Niracamda didn't know what to do. She knew the Gastly was not going to stop just because they asked him to. In fact, they probably had gotten themselves into trouble. Then the Gastly spoke up to the Shuckle. Nira glanced to her new friend. The expression on his face said he was going to fight for them. "Giles, don't." Nira said, but she was too late. Giles had already attacked the Gastly.

The Gastly looked a bit surprised but dodged the attack. "Is that all you can do? Why are you even fighting when that interesting Houndour girl could fight me?" The Gastly stared at Nira with a malicious grin. What was she supposed to do? She couldn't fight him. "Hehe, just as I though. You don't fight. You are just a weak little Houndour. Why don't you just run home?" The Gastly seemed like he was trying to taunt her. He was right though. She was indeed weak.

Not all that shocked, Giles’ attack did not hit the ghastly. The ghastly did not laugh at him, but rather Nira. This only made Giles angrier. Not only did this ghastly pick on what seemed to be an innocent fletchling, but also is now poking at Nira. This did not really help Giles out all of that much, morale speaking. He knew that he was weak, slow, and was probably out matched for this ghastly. He probably could not land a hit on them, and Nira won’t attack. All Giles could do was throw himself in the way of the ghastly and hope that he could where them down. But Giles can’t control the ghastly’s attacks. They had free control over their actions and could hurl an attack at Nira, or the fletchling, ignoring Giles all together.

Giles got an idea, he knew that Nira was not going to like it, but it was worth a shot.

“Nira, run to the fletchling, get as much distance between you two and the gastly, I’ll hold him off.”

Nira stared at Giles for a moment. She couldn't just leave him behind, could she? But the Fletchling needed help. The Houndour didn't know what to do. The Gastly grinned at that. "Hehe, that is rather brave. You think you can defeat me? We will see about that." Niracamda could see the determined expression on the Shuckle's face. She had finally made up her mind.

"Be careful, Giles." With these words, Nira ran towards the Fletchling and started carrying it away. She had to get to a safe place with it. The Gastly just watched them leave before turning his attention back to the Shuckle. He would deal with the hound and the bird later.

Everything was going to Giles’ not very well thought out plan. Nira got to the fletchling’s aid and he thought that they could get away as long as he said there. Giles knew that he was not strong enough to fight the ghastly, but he could at least try to slow down their progress so that way Nira and the fletchling could get more space in between them. “I never said I was going to defeat you… but you do have to get through me first!” he exclaimed.

Giles prepared for the ghastly’s attack, hoping to get some preparation off before they had their turn. He let off withdraw hoping that it would come for a physical attack. He also set up some sticky webs in front of the trees hoping that it would affect their speed. “Now it’s your turn…” he thought.

The Gastly grinned. "Hehe, so you know you can't defeat me, yet you still try to fight me? How brave. I will make sure to end you quickly." Saying that, the Gastly moved closer to Giles. The webs did slow him down a bit but not much. The Gastly stuck out his tongue and licked the Shuckle. The Harden would reduce the damage but he didn't notice.

Nira kept running with the Fletchling. She had to bring the bird to safety. The Houndour really hoped Giles would be ok. She felt rather bad for leaving him behind but there was nothing she could do to help him. The Houndour noticed something in the distance. She was reaching the edge of the forest. Surely, the Gastly wasn't going to follow her there, right? She had to try it. The Houndour started running faster, towards the exit.

Giles’s plan somehow worked, the ghastly’s lick end up doing very little to the shuckle. “Ok Giles, just keep this up and maybe you can get them some more space,” he thought. Giles knew that he had very little chance to hit the ghost type, so he played to his strengths. He used withdraw again so soak up more damage from their next attack. The ghastly gave Giles another lick, but they got a similar outcome. “Hm there shuckle, do you think that you have me beat? While yes it does seem that I do not have the ability to take you out… I have other things that I can do,” explained the ghastly.

Before Giles could even say another word, the ghost type used a trick that Giles had not seen in a while. Soon after, the shuckle felt very tired and his eyes became very heavy. “Haha, sweet dream shuckle.” Then everything went black for Giles.
