Chase Through the Spiky Mountains

The Black Spear mountains looked menacing as expected. The cloud cover was thicker than usual, showing signs of a possible storm to come. That certainly didn't help with the overall menacing image portrayed. Who would ever want to venture to this place? Sova, having had a bad experience in this area in the past, didn't fancy coming back. But if he stayed away, that would make him a coward. That was something he just couldn't handle being.

Besides, he had a mission to do and he wouldn't have to go all the way to Black Mist Mountain. And there was a torchick with him, since it was an escort mission, so it wasn't really lonely. Though he was pretty sure the torchick wouldn't be a very capable fighter. At least the mission seemed easy. Find Staraptor and get her to stay and chat.

After more boring walking, Sova and his client spotted the staraptor again. It didn't take nearly as much time since they didn't have to move to another mountain. This time, however, there was a completely different obstacle. They had to cross through the area which was previously a battleground again, which wouldn't have been a problem if there was still a distracting fight going on. Now only the primeape was left standing, and it seemed to be looking for something else to fight. Before Sova could even consider whether to take a long detour or try to sneak past it, he was spotted. He'd completely forgotten to stay out of view.

The primeape moved surprisingly fast considering it had just been in a presumably tough fight. The little eevee could have easily outran it alone, but with his client around....he'd have to find another method of dealing with this enemy. "Hide, I've got an idea." He spoke calmly, though he was beginning to worry.

Now this was not looking good. Even though it was weakened from the previous battle, the Primeape still held a debilitating type advantage over the Eevee and most likely had more practice fighting as well. Unless Sova would be able to come up with quite the surprise he would stand little chance in this battle, meaning that William would have to intervene.
It was now that William began to wonder how the Torchic was feeling. Such a long walk for an untrained Pokémon combined with the constant threat of being attacked - it was quite surprising that it hadn't asked for them to return yet. Was this Staraptor really that famous? And if it was, then why had William never heard of it before? Okay, he had been living alone in a forest for quite some time.

Sova knew very well that he wouldn't be able to fight the primeape. Perhaps with the torchick and more items than he would want to use, but not alone. He'd just have to get around fighting. Almost too quickly for him to react, the primeape engaged the battle with a very fast punch. He never would have been able to dodge it if he didn't have Detect. Even with it, he barely ducked in time to avoid the attack. He wasted no time Quick Attacking away to gain ground, stopping to lead the enemy back to him before speeding farther away. From a spectator's point of view it may have looked like he was running away. He kind of was. Slowly, he led the flailing monkey thing on a zigzagged path towards a cliffside. If his plan didn't work, at least his client would be able to have a running start....

Now this was looking like a plan - albeit a dangerous one.
And what Sova did not seem to realize - or did realize but did not care about was that with the high speed he was on he was in quite the danger of falling off of that cliff himself. This could end badly. Very badly.
And thus William tried to position himself as close as possible to the cliff, hoping for the ongoing battle-chase to have caught the Eevee's attention enough for him not to notice him.
It were times like these in which William was quite grateful for his ability to levitate.
It must be a scary life, always having to worry about falling, being afraid of heights and reasonably so.
Hopefully he would never end up grounded.

Narrowly avoiding a few more attacks by just enough to keep the raging monkey interested got Sova's full attention.  Because of this, he almost didn't remember to stop at the edge of the cliff, which could have ended very badly.  He got a good look over the edge as he stopped with no room left to move forward.  It was a pretty long fall, but he could see the bottom.  Maybe the primeape wouldn't die.  Either way, it'd be its own fault for attacking at random.

As he turned towards the enemy, he just barely spotted a dark figure.  Sadly, there was no time to turn back and see what it was.  The primeape wasted no time attacking with Power-up Punch.  It would have probably been the eevee falling off the cliff and not the other way around if he didn't know Detect.  He ducked under the punch and Quick Attacked right into the primeape's legs, knocking it over and off the cliffside.  At least, that's what he assumed.  He didn't really want to look over for fear of some gruesome sight.  If he had, he would have known the enemy was not dead, unconscious, or even at the bottom.  But he didn't.

William meanwhile had forced himself to look away just after he had noticed that the Eevee would not fall and neither be hit by the attack. Sova was safe he thought. That was all that mattered. He didn't have to watch the horrid sight that was about to present itself.
He didn't want to have to see what was going to happen now.
Maybe he should have.
Because then he would have borne witness to what had happened instead.

Sova expected the staraptor to fly off when he reached her, he was getting used to it.  Eventually the bird would give up on flying away....hopefully.  He'd feel bad attacking an innocent just to get her to not fly away and trying to pull her down seemed wrong too, so the only morally right choice was to just wait for her to tire.  But who would tire first?  Probably the eevee who had to scale the mountains.

Just as he thought, as he came into view of the staraptor, she flew away without a word or a second glance.  "UUUUUUUUHG."  Sova groaned very loudly for all to hear.  But he didn't have much time to mope as his Anticipation activated, warning him of an incoming Power-up Punch from the primeape who should have resembled a pancake by now.  It had grabbed onto the ledge instead of falling to an almost certain demise.  Great.

The eevee didn't have much time to think about how the primeape had survived before having to avoid the attack.  It would have certainly been impossible without Detect, but because of Detect, he sensed exactly where the attack was going and ducked just low enough to avoid the punch before moving away.  He certainly couldn't fight this enemy and it probably wouldn't fall for the same trick twice, how was he supposed to get out of this?

Hearing - or rather not hearing - something peculiar the Gengar forced himself to lay his eyes upon the site of battle once more. And there he saw the Primeape, still very much standing, throwing punches at the Eevee, who right now seemed to be in a bit of a pickle. Okay, "pickle" might be a bit too polite for this sort of situation. It was at least a cucumber now.
There wasn't much else that could go wrong in this situation, but maybe Sova could still turn it around somehow. And if that wasn't the case, then at least the Ghost tyxpe could intervene, luckily rather immune to the very same attacks that would have a debilitating effect on the Eevee.

The gears in Sova's head turned as fast as possible, desperately searching for a solution. Running away would result in his client falling behind and being attacked instead of himself, fighting would likely result in a loss....then he got an idea. The staraptor was still flying around the area, probably looking for another spot to land on the same mountain. This bird was apparently a member of a rescue team....maybe the eevee could kill two birds with one stone....without actually killing any birds of course.

He turned to his client to share what he'd decided. "Alright, here's the plan. I'm gonna get a little beat up, but if this goes the way I want it to....it'll be fine. What ever you do, don't help. If I say to run, run....and I'll uh....catch up." He spoke hesitantly near the end, doubting his own words. But before any doubt or sensibility could stop him from going through with his stupid, dangerous, reckless plan, he Quick Attacked right into the primeape, knocking it off balance slightly and putting himself in range for an attack. By the time he was ready to attack again, he was met with a karate chop to the forehead. Then, instead of fighting back, he did something very unusual for him. He backed away in what seemed to be fear and called out, "HELP!"

What in the name of various things was the Eevee planning? He couldn't honestly be intending to...he was. Of course he was. William should have seen this coming, but not even he had believed for Sova to be this mindlessly stupid and try and face the Primape in combat.
It came just as expected. Within seconds Sova had taken a serious blow to the head and calling for help. At least he wasn't too proud to do that.
But this call was all the incentive William needed. After all the Eevee had just explicitely asked for intervention, had it not? And even if he had not - the situation was rapidly growing far too risky to simply leave it be like that.
Thus a Shadow Ball was crafted, launched in the general direction of the two Pokémon. Since the Eevee was of the Normal type accidentally hitting Sova with it should not be an issue.
"I knew I couldn't let you alone for five minutes.", the Gengar grinned.

Sova's plan looked like it had a possibility of working as his cry for help attracted the attention of the nearby staraptor. But shortly after getting her to look in his direction, a Shadow Ball passed through the Normal type and knocked the primeape down and out. The staraptor's attention was instantly lost as she decided her intervention wasn't needed. It seemed his plan had attracted some other attention instead....the attention of....the voice of a familiar gengar. "W-what are you...." He stuttered in confusion, pausing as he'd realized William completely ruined his plan and had been following him for an undetermined amount of time.

He managed to keep himself calm just long enough to dismiss his escort. "Mind giving me a moment to talk to the lurking shadow in the area? Alone?" He calmly requested of the torchick behind him, who seemed to understand he was not happy and took a walk. The general area was cleared of danger for the time being so he didn't have to worry.

As soon as his client was out of hearing range, his calm expression changed to very angry. "Come. Out. Now."

"Morning.", the Gengar grinned, still believing for his intervention to have been the right thing to do.
After all the Eevee had been in so much trouble that he would never have gotten out of there on his own. So now maybe the Normal type would finally realize that this area was not for Pokémon of his level of training.
Hopefully his ghastly appearance would not scare the Eevee's client away however. The Ghost type had had many unfortunate events in the past concerning his looks and the reactions of others pertaining to them.
Now, this was going to be interesting to watch. How exactly would Sova react? Thank him? Hug him? Stammer around embarrassed? He just had his life saved after all.

Sova stayed silent for a moment, trying to think of some witty comeback. But, alas, he was far too annoyed to think of anything and had to settle for being straightforward. "Morning your self, you completely ruined my plan! Now how am I supposed to get that staraptor to stop running away?? Why are you even here!?" He took a short pause to breathe before continuing his rant. "Since you just ruined my plan, you're gonna help me finish this mission!" He demanded.

His last resort to complete the mission had completely failed because of the stalker gengar. He humiliated himself pretending to be in distress for nothing. Running away would have been much better if he'd known this was going to happen. He was at least going to get SOMETHING out of it.

Now this was an...unexpected turn of events.
Then again it actually was quite expected for the Eevee to find some way to still claim to have had everything under control. And now he was demanding William's help. Too proud to ask for help, so he was attempting to drag the Gengar with him without having to admit not being able to do this on his own.
"Well, I am here because I knew you would get yourself into a situation like this and wanted to keep your face from being kicked in. As for getting the Staraptor to stay - why don't you just ask nicely? It could very well be the case that she believes for you to be some feral Pokémon. So her flying away is not really a surprise."

"I TRIED!  She doesn't care, just flies off when ever anyone gets near her!  I was purposely losing a fight to draw her down because she's in a rescue team, but it just had to draw YOU out instead, so now you're gonna help me."  Sova spoke about as fast as he could, hoping to end the conversation quickly.  Now he would probably have this held against him for ever, even though it was William's fault his plan was ruined.  If a such thing as luck existed, he definitely wasn't favored by it.  What a bad position to be put in.
