Fruits Basket: The New Zodiacs

The first day of school at Rengoku Academy; a very nice private high school in Japan. It was a nice morning; the sun was out and white, puffy clouds decorated the sky above.

It was around twenty-five minutes before the first warning bell was set to ring when Hikari Sohma jogged up to the front gate of the school. Despite not really being that involved in sports or other athletic activities, Hikari was a rather athletic person. Running to school had always been a breeze for her; she could even out-run the track team. She leaned up against the outer wall of the school and waited for her little brother, Nobunaga Sohma, to catch up.

The Sohma Family was fairly notorious for being very distant, very secretive, and very VERY large; a good number of them living on one single estate. While many people don't understand this, there was a reason for it. The Sohma family had an odd curse upon them where thirteen of the very numerous family members were possessed by a vengeful spirit of the Chinese Zodiac. Hikari and Nobunaga just happened to be two of those Zodiacs; Nobunaga representing the Dragon and Hikari representing the Rat.

Hikari continued to stand around outside the front of the school; keeping a casual lookout for Naga.

Looking up, Tenshi saw a small building surrounded by Cherry Blossoms. "Yep, that's the place. Now we know why it's called "Sakura Point". I hope they have strawberry and Banana Ice Cream." Tenshi said. She was drooling slightly, feeling the drool she quickly wiped it away. "Hope we don't get into trouble with Aunt Sohma." she muttered.

Hikari was taken by a child-like awe and amazement as she looked on at the beautiful cherry blossoms, but at the mention of her aunt she flinched uncomfortably.

"...Well, as long as we don't interact with too many of the people Auntie calls 'outsiders' we should be fine!" Hikari offered brightly, trying to mask the pain and emotion she felt inside. "Aunt Sohma" wasn't a biological aunt to ALL of the Zodiacs, but most of the entire Sohma family (even the branches furthest from the Zodiacs) had refered to her as such even BEFORE she had risen to become head of the Sohma Family.

Hikari quickened her pace to reach the door, then held it open for her cousin.

Seeing Hikari open the door for her, Tenshi sighed a chuckle. "You know, You're not like the rat from the old story. I was wrong." Tenshi said. Hearing thunder rumbling in the distance Tenshi quickly walked in. "I'll pay for the ice cream my treat." she said with a smile.

~A few Hours later~

Tenshi looked outside and checked her phone. "Ahh, crap! It's that late?! Sorry Hikari, I need to head home, like now." Tenshi said, Getting up and paying for the Ice Cream, Tenshi ran out the door, Once outside she was met with a blast of wind and water, along with a flash of lightening. "Oh man, Mom and Dad are going to kill me for being late. It's 6:30 pm" Tenshi muttered as she started running.

Hikari cocked her head sideways a little at Tenshi's comment; just a little confused by it. She smiled and chuckled a little, however. "Oh, thank you so much!" she replied in response to the comment about ice cream.

As Tenshi got up to leave, Hikari started getting a funny feeling in the pit of her stomach (and not just because she was getting sick with a cold). "Be careful...!" she called after her cousin as she left, starting to really worry fot Tenshi.

As Hikari jogged home, she said a small prayer in her head for Tenshi and her family while thunder rolled in the distance; thunder she didn't even hear as she prayed.

Tenshi had just made it home. She was still wet though, but she didn't mind the rain that much. Tenshi liked the rain, she just doesn't care for getting wet. Opening the door to her small home she let her parent's know that she was home. Taking off her shoes she realized that it was too quiet in the house. "Mom, Dad?" she called out. Walking in the kitchen she was that dinner was ready, "That's odd, the food's not even touched." she muttered. She continued to walk through the house.

Hikari's worries kept growing and growing in her chest as she jogged. By the time the main Sohma Estate was within sight, she had already turned around and was now sprinting in the direction that Tenshi had gone, despite her poor health. "Please let her be alright...." Hikati chanted over and over in her head.

Tenshi heard muffled sounds coming from above her head. Looking up she tilted her head. "They better not be making bunnies, up there." she muttered. Heading up stairs slowly, she wasn't sure of what to expect, either she was about to walk in on her parents or something else. Once she made it to the top of the stairs, her hair stood on end. Something was wrong, hearing a click and something pushed her back into the wall. A hand was covering her mouth so she wouldn't make a sound. "Hey guys, look what I found. This one's cute for a boy." a gruff voice said. There was a man in a black outfit and was wearing a black ski mask.

Hearing the door to her parent's bedroom open, Tenshi glanced over and saw her parents being held by two other guys. Her eyes widened with fear. "Hey you're right he is cute." one of the other men said. Tenshi growled softly and tried to push the man off. "Ah ah ah. You don't want anything to happen to your parent's do you?" the man holding Tenshi said.

Then there was a small bang followed by a soft thud. Tenshi's mother was on the ground, blood pouring out of her head. Her father tried to fight the two men off but to no avail. Tenshi gasped and her eyes seemed to grow even wider. Mom. I have to do something! she thought.

Hikari whipped out the small flare gun she always kept in her pocket, for pranking purposes of course. She looked up at the the house, unsure of exactly what she should do. As soon as she heard the "bang" noise, however; she dashed inside without a second thought. "Tenshi?!?!" she called in fear for her cousins. She couldn't help but wonder...

Where were her Uncle and Aunt?

~Downstairs~

There was a fourth robber downstairs raiding the fridge."Man these guys are loaded with food. Oooo Banana pudding." he said. Taking the bowl out of the fridge he started eating it. "Tenshi?!?!" a voice called from the other room. Looking away from the fridge, there rookie robber and went into the hallway. Seeing a girl there he grin, tiptoeing towards her and put her into a head lock.

*Poof*

Hikari's flare gun clattered to the ground next a flustered little grey mouse and Hikari's clothes. Hikari mouse looked up at the robber with a glare that was clearly frustrated. "Ugh, now how am I gonna shoot my...." she thought with a sigh, but then she noticed the seemingly innocent bowl of... BANANA PUDDING. A devious little look crossed the little mouse's face, and then she drug the flare gun over to the bowl and propped it up on it. She grabbed the trigger with her little mouse paws and pulled as hard as she could, successfully launching a flare right at the robber's face.

The robber looked down and saw a small mouse and noticed the girl was gone. "Where'd the kid go?" he asked himself. He wasn't paying attention to Hikari as she pulled the trigger to the Flare gun. The Flare hit the guy in the face, falling back with a high pitched scream, he quickly started dusting off his face. "What the h***?!" he shouted. Hearing squeaking from behind him, he turned around and saw a lot of mice.

Hikari's eyes shone with a red glimmer. This was no longer the Hikari she had been a few minutes ago, but instead was a second personality which had come to be named "Black Hikari". She stared at the man maliciously, her mouse army following suit. "CHARGE, BRETHREN!!!" she squeaked gleefully, and she and all the other mice rushed forward along with her.

*Back upstairs*

The man that was holding Tenshi, was now holding her by her neck. They all heard a high pitched scream followed by squeaking. "That idiot, he's such a baby when it comes to mice." he muttered. Hikari? Tenshi thought. Then out of the corner of her eye she was two cats, a Pure Black cat with amber eyes and a White cat with blue eyes. "You made a mistake in trying to rob this house. But you made an even bigger mistake in killing my mother." she whispered. The man looked at her funny as she pulled off her bracelet. "And what's that..." the man trailed off. Tenshi's body and head felt like it was on fire. She grew bigger and her hands turned into large paws. The air was filled with the smell of burning flesh. This was Tenshi's True form.


The men now saw a large creature with purple eyes. With a low snarl she signaled her cats to attack. The two cats charged forward and started scratching at the men holding her father hostage. "Where did these cats come from!?" the leader shouted in question.

Opening her eyes, an aquamarine color, Tenshi looked at the man as he pointed his gun at her. "What the heck are you?!" he shouted. The men holding Tenshi's dad were now on the floor after a small brawl with the cats and her dad. "You see, our family has a curse on the house hold. One member becomes an animal of the Chinese Zodiac, this includes the cat. However." Tenshi explained.

Ooc: Just picture Kyo's True form, you know what it looks like Xp.

"We only turn when we are hugged by the opposite gender, or other special circumstances." Hikari Rat told the mouse-covered man now lying on the ground. "In addition to these transformations...."

"We also possess unique abilities, and we have something that's different from the original curse. However, we can change out forms into "God form" or "God Animal". The form I'm in right now is my God Animal." Tenshi explained. Walking towards her two cat's growled softly, her father was just starring at his Daughter. "Sorry, Dad. There wasn't much of a choice. Now Soul, Espada, you two head down stairs and help that crazy mouse. And no you can eat any of the mice." she said with a glare. The two cats nodded and went down stairs. It was a good thing Tenshi had changed before leaving school. She now was wearing baggy black pants and a black sports bra. The Robber was still pointing his gun at Tenshi, though he was still shaking.

*BANG!*

There was a loud thunder clap, and blood filled the air. Along with this there was a faint crackling sound and smoke, and heat started to fill up in the bedroom.
