Nefarious Ferals

Another day, another mission. Opal was pleased that she and Cimche had stopped a bullying problem, but a Guild member's job was never done. This time, they were to make a return to Pecha Forest and help out a nidoqueen with a noise problem. Again, the young growlithe found herself wondering why this was brought to the Guild's attention instead of dealt with personally, but ferals did have to be kept in line sometimes, she supposed, and she knew from her previous experience that they could be nasty for the unprepared.

Making sure she lead the way, Opal took her partner deep into the woods, the part most likely to house dangerous ferals. "Make sure you don't fall into any pits this time. Heh."

He didn't notice as the bird flew into view, talon taking ahold of the item in his mouth. Though Cimche kept his hold on it as it tried to fly away with it, leading to a tug of war to who would be using the item, though was quickly ended as the hoothoot clawed at his face. The hoothoot flew off victorious with her newly achieved item. Cimche wasn't sure what that item would do, but he was to tired to do anything about it. Rolling onto his back in defeat he looked up to the sky, and was slightly surprised to see a shooting star flying above him.

"Ah, a shooting star... been some time since I seen one of those." he said as the star seemed to be lowering opon him."Uhh… isn't that getting a little to close?" he asked himself, but the star still approached him, almost making its landing."O-oh..." He said before the shooting star landed on his stomach, Cimche grunting as the star ricocheted off him before exploding into a rain of shimmering sparkles. "Ok, ok. I'll get up, I'll get up." he said, his body shimmering as he slightly healed form his move.

The Zigzagoon seemed to already be charging Cimche before he could up, but Cimche was able to dodge his charge, side stepping out of his attack. Pulling a stick from his bag he held it to his side like a sword, smiling as he regained his peppy attitude. "Aw yes, now this be a simple one v' one!" He knew he had the hoothoot to deal with as well, but he hoped that Opal would be able to deal with them. Holding his ground he stood off to the zigzagoon, hoping this would be a fight he could write in a book someday.

The zigzagoon had just been about to run away, but his hoothoot comrade had managed to steal the Blast Seed from that spinda! It was a Blast Seed, right? Why else would it have been brandished at him like that? Anyway, this was an excellent turnaround! With that dastardly weapon taken and turned against their enemy, victory was assured! Confidence renewed, the stripey raccoon uttered a war cry and charged the oafish panda.

Meanwhile, the hoothoot was flying upward with her ill-gotten seed. Her plan was to climb to a good height before dropping what she had mistakenly assumed was a harmful item on her target. When she was at the desired altitude, the bird released her grip and sent her ammunition hurtling down towards its target.

Opal had finally broken free from the twig net and was taking a moment to use Morning Sun. She'd lost a fair amount of energy from the ordeal and wished to recover some of it. As she concentrated on using the sun's light to heal herself, she noticed the two remaining ferals unleashing a combined attack on her teammate. "Cimche! Watch out!" she cried, fearing for his safety.

Cimche collided into the force of the zigzagoons tackle, the stick held on his arm to absorb some of the damage coming from the hit. Pushing against the Zigzagoon the pokemon pushed back, both of them fighting for strength. Though for Cimche he was just playing along, using the friction of the stick in between them he slid off of the push, having the pokemon who was truly putting force into the push, along with the support of Cimche kicking under his feat to stumble and fall. Cimche nearly fell from that as well but steadied himself as he look back to the fallen pokemon, giving a little flourish of his stick as he waited for his opponent to get back up.

Hearing Opals warning he looked around him, worried on what he should be worried about. "Where?" But was unable to find out until the end what it was as it landed on his head, making him jump. AH!" He yelled quickly, believing he would not be able to yell out much of anything else for what might occur. Thought when he saw something fall over is vision he looked down to see a seed, the exact one he believed the bird took. picking it up he looked at it with the most confused face he could make, which was quite difficult due to his face. Looking up he only saw the silhouette of her on a branch. Arms splayed out he yelled one confused word. "What?!"

He was tooken out of his confused stance as the zgzagoon takled him off his feet. Though the force of the hit didn't bring him with the Zigzagoon as he landed where he stood, dazed and still confused.

The hoothoot was confused. That Blast Seed should have exploded on the spinda! Unless it wasn't one of those after all... Oh no, what had she dropped on him? She hoped it wasn't something that would make him stronger or faster. The bird remained hovering, waiting to see what effect the seed had on her foe before deciding whether or not to swoop again.

Opal was also confused. It clearly wasn't a Blast Seed that had been dropped, or Cimche would be in a much worse shape. Now was not the best time to worry about that, however. First she had to defeat the zigzagoon who'd sent her teammate back to the ground, then she could ponder what variety of seed he had been hit with. Barking and snapping her jaws, Opal rushed toward the feral pokemon to bite it.

Cimche struggled to get up as the hit he received knocked the wind out of him. stabbing the stick into the ground, using it as a crutch to stand back up with. Though he didn't get to stand long as the Zigzagoon pounced on him again, this time attempting to bite him. But instead biting into the stick Cimche was able to bring up just in time, though still fell down with the pounce, holding the zigzagoon back with his crude weapon.

The stick he held was starting to splinter as the striped pokemon tried to get at Cimche, the spinda not sure how long he could hold them back again.

(Seeds take effect when they hit you, so Cimche should be fairly speedy for the rest of the page)

Opal was astonished to see Cimche speeding up, almost as fast at that zigzagoon now, after being hit by the seed the hoothoot had stolen. He was still in trouble, though, with the feral still lunging at him and almost breaking his stick in the process. Opal thankfully reached the scuffling pair before that could happen, and pulled the raccoon off her friend with a bite.

The zigzagoon cried out as he felt sharp fangs sink into him. One moment he'd almost had the spinda defeated, the next he was being dragged around and savaged by the growlithe who'd been stuck in that net. How had the mutt escaped? Never mind that-right now, he just wanted the biting to stop.

(Oh... I thought it was when you eat it. I keep defaulting to explorers of sky logic. Does that mean its a plain seed now?)

Cimche picked himself up again and as he did so he realized something, he is a little faster than how much he usually is, him barely noticing the transition of picking himself up; feeling light enough he might as well be flying. Looking at the stick he used he noticed that it was bent and nearly broken, it obviously being out of commission. Cimche nonchalantly tossed the stick before pulling out another one in a very quickly manner.

Looking over to Opal he saw the ferocity of what she was doing to the Zigzagoon, the zigzagoon seened to be trying to fight Opal off of him but overall failing to do so. After some time of watching it go down, he thought it would be best to intervene.

"Yeah, I think they had enough Opal." Cimche said.

(You can eat seeds or throw them. Also, only Reviver Seeds turn into Plain Seeds. Don't ask how that works when something is thrown.)

Opal let go of the zigzagoon, who'd obviously had enough and zoomed off into the distance, while the hoothoot cut her losses and also fled. "I suppose you were right there," she responded, "We're here to make sure the ferals don't cause trouble, and I don't think he'll be feeling like that any time soon."

While Opal was a good-hearted pokemon, she had definitely inherited her mother's fierce nature. Whenever she perceived a threat to herself or her friends, like what had just happened, she would go to great lengths to stop it. Perhaps she had gotten carried away with that zigzagoon, perhaps not. Cimche was a decent voice of reason either way.

Cimche looked around to make sure they where truly out of the way of harm, turning his view around super fast. When he didn't see anything he turned to Opal with a big smile. They fought pretty well together, even though he almost blew himself up, but he made it out in one piece, And they won the battle!

"We did it, High five" He said as he reached for the sky before noticing something. "Though I guess it would be down low for you, heh..." he said before he lowered his appendage below himself waiting for Opals reaction.

"We sure did!" Opal smiled and lifted up a paw to place on top of Cimche's. Or was it a hand? She had to ask him that one day. Or now, even, but there were more important things to discuss first. "The job request said we only had to defeat three ferals, right? the growlithe pondered, "We've defeated four, so we could go back and claim the reward now, or keep going for some extra pay, which I think we should do, because that will make things a bit safer as well."

As the pup thought out loud, two pineco came rolling, side by side, toward the explorers. They didn't look like they were going to stop. After seeing the battle, they'd decided to try their luck. Surely these interlopers were weak, even if they had won. Taking their things should be easy!

(I notice you rolled a tangela on the first page. If you like, I'm happy to have Opal take the hit and fall asleep so your Quick Seed doesn't get wasted.)

"Yeah, lets go make some enemies!" Cimche yelled, his wish being granted as the twin Pinecos rolled in, seeming to want to fight as well."I didn't mean now!" He yelled to no one in particular. Gripping his stick he twirled it some before he charged one of the Pinecoes planning to tackle into them. Due to his boost of speed the force of the tackle hurt him a little as well as the piney pokemon was launched backwards, pretty much doing a reverse roll in mid air. Cimche reeled back from the pain for a moment as he took a second to collect himself.  

(Yeah, that sounds like a plan, thanks in advance.)

The pair of pineco emitted a noise reminiscent of chuckling as they rolled right on in. One stopped as it was launched through the air with a stick, but was built in a rather sturdy way and didn't seem to have taken a whole lot of damage. It got right back up and launched itself recklessly at the spinda who'd whacked it.

Opal blasted the other pineco with Ember, which caused a great deal more distress. It rolled around in the dirt, frantically trying to put out the flames which surrounded it. No heed was taken of its friend's situation as it did this, and none was taken by anyone of the tangela sneaking up on the scene. Just as she used Ember again to finish off her pineco, Opal keeled over and started snoring.

Seeing what Opal had done, he thought it would be a good idea to implement what she did with his foe. taking a deep breath he held it before releasing it, a gout of flame releasing from his mouth and hitting the Pineco directly. Though it seemed it only stuned the enemy as they reeled back. Taking the opportunity Cimche swung the stick upon the Pineco, the stick breaking upon impact while knocking its target out. Looking at The broken stick Cimche laughed before taking another stick from the ground."Luckily I'm in a forest, can't run out of these."

Turning over to Opal he could see that she was laying down on the ground. He immediately panicked and rushed to her side, but barely got close before he was swatted away from a long appendage. Landing on his back he quickly got back up, looking past Opal and behind a bush to see the somewhat shadowy figure of a Tangela. As the Tangela revealed more of itself Cimche felt more uncomfortable looking at it. the amalgamation of vines, slightly moving on their own accord just looked disturbing to him. But Cimche shrugged off his feeling to how it looked as the Tangela eyes flickered from Opal and her bag and back to him. Knowing what the Tangela was after Cimche charged forward, and the Tangela retaliated with vine whips, Cimche dodging them one by one until he saw an opening and proceeded to strike the Pokémon, but all he struck was air as the Tangela had jumped away before he could reach him. Though he had missed Cimche was at least glad they where away from Opal. He took a second to look back to see if she was ok, but returned his focus on his opponent, the pokemon seeming irritated as the vines around it moved franticly.

Cimche made sure to move away from Opal to try and divert The Tangela's attention, but it didn't seem like it was necessary as they immediately focused its attacks on him. Cimche was worried if he tackled or got to close to the Tangela that he might become entangled, bringing the end to the fight, so he continued to dodge as the barrage of attack made their way to him, seeming so consistent that al he could do was dodge, hoping they would tire before the effect of the seed wore off. After a minute he notice the attacks wear down and took it as a chance to attack, charging directly for the center. "AHHH!" He screamed as he held his stick above himself before swinging down with the force of an axe swing. The snap of the stick echoed through the forest as he hit the Tangela under the vines. The vines used to attack him becoming sturdy before falling limply to the ground, along with the form of vines covering the shadowy figure falling atop each other, complete submerging the creature. Looking at the stick he tossed it in front of the Tangela before giving a unbalanced bow.

Turning around he ran to Opals side hoping she was ok, but calmed down when the first thing he herd was her snoring "Oh... well ok then. I guess we did fight a lot today, not sure if that ok to fall asleep in the middle of danger though." He said to himself before he pushed at her back to try and wake her up

Opal remained fast asleep. It seemed that Cimche would have to deal with this mess of animated vines on his own. The tangela didn't care that both pineco had just been knocked out. It was far stronger than them, it knew. It confidently lashed out at the spinda with Vine Whip, again and again, sure it would hit him eventually.

Oblivious to the new enemy who'd turned up, Opal dreamed of running through sunny fields and scoffing down piles upon piles of berries of all kinds. Fire Stones were abundant, and she decorated a nice home with the prettiest ones. It was a nice dream. She was going to be disappointed when she woke up.

Cimche continued to poke at Opal as he tried to wake her up. "C'mon Opal wake up. We're not exactly at the right place to sleep at." He said, barely noticing the lurking vine making its why over to him until it was too late.

A vine quickly wrapped around him, constricting around him as it pulled him away from Opals side, and back to the Tangela.  They looked at Cimche quite aggressively as it rubbed at its injury while also receiving healing from the ground itself. Cimche attempted to struggle out of his bonds but the constricting around him became tighter as the Tangela attempted to squeeze the life out of him.
