| Subject: (Up for Adoption) Sentinel the Solrock Sun Jan 31, 2016 3:10 am | |
| » Name: Sentinel » Sex: N/A » Gender: Male » Species: #338 Solrock, the Meteorite Pokemon » Affiliation: Wanderer
» Level: 5 » Energy: 22 (Calculated by adding 5 to a BE of 17, due to a BST of 440) » Ability: Levitate~ Sentinel is immune to ground type attacks, especially ones like Earthquake. Maybe projectiles like Mud Bomb and Bonemerang will have some kind of effect? » Moves: - Rock Throw (ORAS lv.1) - Confusion (ORAS lv.1) - Harden (ORAS lv. 1) - Fire Spin (ORAS lv. 5)
» Natural Feats: - Orbit Fever: Sentinel can gyrate his body to generate heat. This can be used to warm nearby Pokemon in the cold, or by spinning longer and more rapidly create a wall of intense heat to use defensively or offensively. This is largely the procedure to produce the Fire Spin attack. (Pokédex entries: Sapphire, AlphaSapphire) - Arid Lantern: Sentinel is able to produce light from his body. Useful for lighting dark paths or as a long distance beacon. (Pokédex entries:Ruby, Diamond, Pearl, Plat., HG, SS, Black, White, B2, W2, X, Omega Ruby) -Mind’s Eye: Sentinel can sense the emotions of those near him. Also able to make more accurate predictions of those around him, though not able to read minds. Reading minds is too OP and kind of not fun. (Pokédex entries:Sapphire, FireRed, LeafGreen, Y, AlphaSapphire) -Ones not really cool enough to name: Gets his energy from the sun, so prolonged periods in bright light make him stronger while prolonged periods in darkness make him tired. Food not necessary as long as he has access to the sun. (Maaaany Pokédex entries) Is able to move quite silently in the air, but since he’s not flexible at all is prone to ruining it by bumping into stuff in tight spaces. (Pokédex entries: Ruby) Levitate’s added bonuses, apparently, should also be mentioned here. So again, immunity/resistance to ground-type tactics.
» Personality: Harboring a sense of guilt for his rampage on his travels, Sentinel is determined to better himself. Having been told his entire life that he is “incomplete” and “inadequate,” he wants to finally reach a point where he can think of himself as whole. He’s realized that the answer isn’t back home, and that it isn’t being alone. It’s something, or someone, out there in the world waiting to be found. Sentinel, possessing the ability to sense the emotions of others, is also very aware of feelings. He himself has had many encounters with intense rage and sadness, and so understands the sides of life that aren’t founded on logic. As a result he is very sympathetic and is quick to try to relate to other Pokemon. He’d been alone all his life, and was only saved from his emotions by the kindness of another, so he seeks to return the favor by being a light for those that are lost (both physically and emotionally). This being said, Sentinel isn’t always going around theatrically brooding over his past. When he’s not thinking about destiny, Sentinel has a sunny personality-- pun intended. He just hasn’t had anyone around to experience his good side with yet. He’s very proud of his image being that of the sun, and while his face doesn’t allow for the expression of emotion, he lights up when excited. The light can be nurturing or threatening depending on his mood, but when he’s happy or trying to be supportive it’s always a soft orange glow. A final note about his personality is another thing that he’s yet to discover. Sentinel has craved having a friend for his whole life, and so he’s extremely loyal. Sentinel is not a sneaky kind of Pokemon. He’s very straightforward and means what he says. If you show him kindness then he will call you a friend, and he will value that friendship very, very highly. » Likes: Sentinel is very keen on selfless acts. He never received any love during his time in Scorchfall, so he greatly values the virtue of kindness. He wonders if there are other Pokemon who are living like he had, alone and mad at the world. After finally being rescued from the clutches depression by a complete stranger, Sentinel aspires to one day save someone in the same way. He, being a Solrock, has a great affinity for the sun and other celestial bodies. For years their sparkling lights were the only things to give him hope, and so he dreams that he himself can offer such a light for another. Sentinel also likes physical contact with others, though he does not yet know this due to his solitary life. One day he’ll discover that hugs are nice-- though he can’t exactly return them without arms. Oh, and as a weird final note, Sentinel has a reflexive affinity towards crustacean Pokemon, because they remind him of the old Kingler he met on his journeys; the first Pokemon to teach him about kindness.
» Dislikes: Above all else, Sentinel hates the idea of predetermined fate. He hates traditions that restrict the happiness of those living in the present because he was discriminated against for years for not being able to conform to the standards of his society. He was lonely and miserable until he decided to take his fate into his own hands. The ones who were so cold to him, the Seers, are also icons that he has bad blood with. However, he doesn’t hate any other Solrock or Lunatone beyond the twenty current members of the Seers. Also, due to his biology and because of his miserable travels through the rainy western half of the region, Sentinel hates rainy days. They make him cold, sick, and remind him of the worst times of his life when he was completely overtaken by anger. This leads to the final thing he really, really doesn’t like: his own temper. Sentinel now knows that if he ever gets sent off the edge again, it could very well kill him. He never wants to delve back into that state of fury again and tries to always keep himself positive from now on-- though any threats to him and especially those to his friends will quickly be met by his violent, fiery style of battle.
» History: It’s very long; got a little carried away with it. I hope it’s at least enjoyable to read.
- Spoiler:
Deep within the desolate reaches of Scorchfall Desert rises the perplexing structure that Sentinel once called home. Known as the Sanctum of the Stars by the few who are aware of its existence, it is a hallowed site for monks and believers of astrology due the darkness of the desert nights providing an optimal place to gaze up at the cosmic tapestry of stars above. The Pokemon monks who inhabit this place brave the harshness of the desert not only to test their endurance, but also learn the secrets of the universe through the wisdom of what they refer to as “celestial beings.” To common folk it would appear that these Pokemon are merely gazing into the sky at night and meditating during the day, but there is another force at work in the Sanctum of the Stars. For those truly dedicated to the cause of cosmic enlightenment, the real figureheads are the Seers. The Seers are a prophetic council of Lunatone and Solrock that reside over the Sanctum’s activities. They are very fond of their traditions and always pair one Lunatone and one Solrock together for life. The duo combine their ability to use the attack Cosmic Power on starry nights to draw pure insight from the “celestial beings,” and by doing so serve as prophets to the monks of the Sanctum. While no one truly knows what Cosmic Power allows them to see, their followers consider them ambassadors to the heavens; the messengers of infinite wisdom. The Seers work in perfect harmony with each other, each Lunatone and Solrock seamlessly magnifying their partner’s powers. Perfect harmony, that is, for as long as there are an equal number of Lunatone and Solrock. Mysteriously these Pokemon tend to be born from Meteor Valley at around the same time, gravitating as a pair to the Sanctum because it is the optimal place to watch the sky. It turns out, however, that there is no guarantee of this always being the case. The Solrock named Sentinel woke up in the valley alone. There was no crescent-shaped companion alongside him when he took his first breath; only the dusty rocks of the valley. On his journey to the desert he faced miles of solitude, and even upon arriving there was no one by his side. Despite being surrounded by members of his own kind, he was utterly alone. The Seers did not consider his abilities worthwhile, and wouldn’t even allow the teaching Cosmic Power to him until he had a partner. In the eyes of the Seers, a lone Solrock was a blind prophet. So Sentinel waited. Months passed. A year came and went. Two years. Three. He watched rituals from the shadows and could only imagine what amazing things were being unveiled to the Seers. He wanted so badly for a Lunatone to arrive at the site. He’d be useful-- and he’d have a friend. He was referred to as the “extra.” The leftover Seer. The sun who never rose. Rumors began that maybe he abandoned his Lunatone; that maybe he’s too ashamed to admit that he lost his “other half” on the journey here. The twenty active Seers had no sympathy for Sentinel, the odd twenty-first. One day while meditating in the sun, alone of course, Sentinel opened his eyes to the horizon and whispered his name. “Sentinel. Sentinel. I am Sentinel the Solrock,” he held his breath and turned around to see the other inhabitants of his home, in their groups as usual. “I am Sentinel the Solrock, and I’m missing my other half. That’s all I’ve heard for almost four years. I’m tired of it. I’m tired of waiting to become complete… tired of being defined by a Lunatone that doesn’t exist; a friend I’ll never meet. I don’t need a Lunatone to realize my potential. I don’t need anyone,” rage began to boil inside of his orange carapace. Staring into the blazing sun over the ever empty desert, Sentinel proclaimed to himself “I will be the sun that shines on this world! I’ll acquire an even greater power than all the Seers combined... and I won’t owe my future to anyone!” And at that moment he drifted away into the dunes of the desert. Leaving behind the Sanctum, Sentinel began travelling in order to solidify his identity as an individual. The journey would prove to be a lonely one for he shunned the idea of meeting others, likening friendship to the idea that he wasn’t whole without a “second half.”
Even for someone who resented the idea of partnerships, however, being alone in the wilderness of the world can and will take its toll. Floating across the land for long, aimless weeks only worsened Sentinels’ emotional state. He lashed out at any others who tried talking to him, saying narcissistic garbage about his ascension to greatness. “Oh, I’m sure you’re about ask me where my Lunatone went right?! You think that just because I’m alone that I’m lost? Weak? Just an extra in this world!? I’m going to be the brightest sun this world has ever seen. I’m not going to be a Solrock who tells prophecies. I’m going to create them myself.” He would preach that line in every village he came across; to every Pokemon that stopped him along the way. Even if they were only asking directions he would find a way to derive insult from it. He felt even emptier now than before, but couldn’t stop his rage. Soon most Pokemon in the Eastern part of the region knew to avoid the “Cold Sun” as it shone it’s ugly light. His quest going nowhere, the seething Sentinel continued towards the coastline. Soon the desert dweller would encounter new experiences of rain and cold, and these sensations only worsened his temper more. Rain would turn into an ominous mist upon colliding with the heat of his body, blinding him in a blanket of steam. What truly clouded his vision, however, were his anger and sorrow. The Seer who never saw was now more lost than ever, until he finally emerged from the dark wilderness onto a beautiful beach. As weary and sickened as he was, Sentinel had reached the coast. The sun was out, and despite having no idea where he was Sentinel felt like he’d finally arrived somewhere. Having seen only endless sand for most of his life, Sentinel was speechless to see the glimmering expanse of water in front of him. His moment of peace wouldn’t last long, however, as a voice would shatter the calm. “Ahoy, big face! We certainly don’t see teh much o’yer kind ‘round these parts!” The voice was disgustingly welcoming. It drove Sentinel mad, and he turned around to see a jolly old Kingler waving at him. “What brings ye’ oot this far, friend? A desert fella like yerself ain’t got much business in these here coastal parts very often.” The Kingler smiled kindly and sincerely, but Sentinel was unable to accept his gesture. “...leave me alone, you sightless pleb,” Sentinel grew hot with rage again and glared with fire into the eyes of the Kingler. “Woah there, youngin’! I was only askin’ if ye be in need of any--” “Do you have water in your ears, you briney old bag? Leave me be. My vision is far beyond what you could ever provide me with… I… I…” Sentinel trailed off. What vision? He didn’t even know what he wanted to do. Be alone? Be adored? He’d been lost for weeks and… no, he’d been lost far longer than that. He’d never been found in his entire life. Did he belong anywhere? He’s never belonged anywhere before. A Pokemon like that couldn’t possibly hold any grand visions. Angrily, the young Solrock began making a furious path to the edge of a rocky bluff overlooking the crystal water. He stared out at the sea with heat roaring from his eyes, ready to scream to the water...and wept. There was no destination to his journey. It had been months, and here he was. A sandy place with an endless horizon. It was the same as Scorchfall. He stared down at the rolling waves, where the beautiful edge of a coral reef peeked out from the turquoise blanket of water. He’d heard of an expanse of coral below the faraway sea and wondered if he’d found it. (This isn’t the Coral Forest but rather a smaller, lovely reef) Down below there existed ceaseless beauty. It reminded him of the stars he was never able to reach. Vast and gorgeous. Seemingly random… yet everything was in its place. Inside his stone skin, Sentinel shook. He was overcome with his desire to belong somewhere. His rage melted away to sadness… and there, high above the shining bay, he decided to stop floating. Plummeting toward the beauty below, he thought that he could become a part of this place forever. It wasn’t the cosmic heavens he’d dreamt of seeing, but this was a place he could reach alone. He didn’t need a Lunatone. He didn’t need anyone. He would let himself sink, and then drown amidst this mosaic of color before finally becoming a part of it. A part of something beautiful. Finally, he’d---- SPLASH.
… As his eyes began closing and he drifted into unconsciousness, Sentinel felt a strange current. Something… no, someone was holding onto him. He couldn’t see anything, and before long the Cold Sun set for the last time. Or, so he thought. Unexpectedly, he woke up some hours later lying in the cool sand and looking up at the night sky as he’d done so many times before. “Awake are ye? Yer one blasted stupid Solrock, that much is fer sure!” It was the voice of the friendly old Kingler. Sentinel looked over to see the aged Pokemon resting beside him, and was shocked to see that one of his pincers was cracked and chipped all over. “What happened? How did I get here… and what happened to you?” The Kingler laughed softly. “I went in and saved ye, lad! Ye almost done killed yerself; tore up one o’ me pincers in all the commotion draggin’ a heavy oaf like ye to shore.” Sentinel had no words, for he’d never felt this kind of unconditional kindness. The only friendships he knew were ones prophesized by the will of the celestial beings, which may or may not even exist. This Kingler owed him nothing, and yet he’d go so far as to injure himself to rescue him? He’d treated this crab like scum and yet… “Why?” Ask Sentinel, his body glowing softly from emotion. The chains of rage finally loosened from his heart, allowing him to see the world as something other than a cruel taskmaster for the first time. “I don’t need a reason tah help a fool from drownin’ in the sea, lad! Ye shouldn’t expect me to ‘ave one. I don’t know how ye were raised, but ye were raised wrong if ye be thinkin’ that way,” The Kingler began limping over and put his unhurt claw on Sentinel’s “shoulder.” With another jolly grin, the old man offered a single piece of advice to Sentinel: “Enjoy yer time here, ye young fool,” before disappearing into the evening shadows. And with that, Sentinel was left to his thoughts. Maybe the Kingler was just welcoming him to the coastal region again, but Sentinel thought he heard more than that. Rising from the damp sand, Sentinel resolved once again to find himself. He would find his “other half,” whatever it might be, and he would realize his destiny. But he wouldn’t do it alone. He’d meet others and learn what togetherness truly meant. He still wanted to be the sun who brightened the world, but no longer would his light be one that glared at others. His light would be one of salvation; one that people could depend on. Maybe he’d guide lost folks through the darkness of the surrounding woods. Maybe he could warm those struggling in colder climates. Maybe one day he’d return home and show those desert isolationists what the real world was like. And just maybe… maybe he could set aside his lonely personality long enough make a friend.
Literally glowing with excitement, Sentinel set off to find his calling.
» Other: I think you’ve probably read enough of my writing. Big thank you to whoever actually bothers to sit through all of it. <3

Sorry, your Character Bio cannot be approved due to the following reasons:
1. PERSONALITY The personality is a bit bare for my tastes. Plus the references to ORAS and stuff I don't like. Expand a little on his personality. You have a lot of history to go off of, I know you've thought about what he's like, just expand a little. What is he like around his friends? If he doesn't have any friends, what about his personality makes him have no friends, etc.
2. LIKES/DISLIKES I'd like to see a little more explanation on the likes and dislikes. I know you expand on in it the history, but for someone who doesn't want to read through the entire history just to understand why or why not he likes/dislikes something, it's better to expand a little.
3. HISTORY This isn't an actual problem with the history, I just wanted to make a note here that I really liked the history. It was very original and a fascinating read~ Anyway, as soon as you get those other two fixed up, I'll be happy to accept your character :3
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to message any of the Secretaries. May it be through the Chatbox or through Private Messaging, we will tend to your concerns as soon as we can. Please fix your bio accordingly so that we may be able to approve it. Once you have completed your edits, either bump this thread or message us.
