An Old Grudge

Walking down the sidewalk, Pika was completely bored, without anything to do, and decided that he may as well go someplace. Which is how he found himself walking down the streets of a not-so-random neighborhood. The thirteen year-old Pika found a rock on the ground, and gave it a kick, kicking it as he walked.

"No!" He replied offended but he sniffed his pits just to check and made a sour face. God using fire around him made him sweat like a pig. "There's a fire." Zash sounded sure of himself he started to sprint now.

"Well crap, you don't say?" Pika asked sarcastically, and ran after Zash so he could keep up. "Now, and plan for this? Or are we just running into a fire?" Pika asked, hoping they weren't doing something stupid.

" Basically yeah." Zash nodded turning a corner he saw the smoke on pouring out of a house down the block. No wonder he hadn't seen the smoke before it billowed out so strangely that it rose like a cloud and blended in to the early morning sky. " That's a department store." Zash knew it was two levels high and actually linked with the apartment building right next to it. The fire would spread if they didn't hurry.

Pika immediately looked around for a fire hydrant or something, and realized that even if he got the top off he couldn't control the water. "We should see if anyone’s in there." Pika said, pulling his hoodie off and tying it around his lower face before running up to the entrance and looking in.

" No time to think just go!" Zash shouted and kicked in the door. It crushed with one clean kick it snapped like a twig. Flames were the only thing you could see in the door way but this was Zash we were talking about fire did not scare him for even an instant. He rushed in he knew the store well enough to get to the back of it where the flames were less intense. " Pika?" He called.

Pika ran through the store behind Zash, coughing a bit from his makeshift smoke mask, and nodded his head when they got to the back. "I'm here." He said, and started looking for anything to put out the flames with.

Zash breathed a sigh of relief. Suddenly the area above the door gave out and blocked the entrance. Well we're not getting out that way. Zash thought. He quickly opened a door labeled for staff only. It was a stair well, Zash knew it hooked up to the apartment building he'd use this route to sneak out of the store after he had stolen things from the store. " This way the fire's not here." Zash instructed and he was truthful the air was clear of smoke in the stair well.

Wondering what else could go wrong, Pika nodded his head and ran over to the stairwell, leaning on one of the railings to rest for a moment. "Alright, now what about the fire?" Pika asked, thinking of something to use to put out the fire. There might not have been people in the store, but there were probably some more people in the Apartments.

"The store will be fine, it isn't the problem the problem is the second fire in the apartment building." Zash told him. It had been impossible to see it from the outside but Zash could sense it. " I don't know where it is but it's-" BOOM Zash was cut off as an explosion sounding from above and to the right of them. " No! The fire spread quicker then I thought!!" Zash started to rushed up the stairs 3 to 5 at a time.

"What second fir-" Pika was fut off by the explosion, stumbling back a couple steps. "Zash, we need a plan!" He yelled as he ran after him. They couldn't just run into a fire without a way to put it out, they would die.

"I know but if we sit around doing nothing people will die!" He was up the stair now bursting out the door and opening up to the kitchen of one of the apartments. He quickly turned on all the facets he could find. " okay here's the plan!" He said as he breathed deeply and stuck his hand in the freezing cold water that was filling the sink thankful the water pipes hadn't broke. " I can sense it now the top room, the fires spread down. now one no two floors it's starting to move on all three floors. " Zash started to sweat he was panicking. " I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!" He screamed in frustration.

Pika immediately grabbed Zash by the shoulder and gave him a rough shove. "Calm down and we can think of something." Pika said, and looked at the water. "Maybe if we broke the water pipe on the top floor we could flood the other floors." He suggested, knowing it was probably a bad plan. But something needed to be done.

Zash's breathing stopped being strained he calmed now putting his other hand in the water. His fire senses sharped as the water cooled his hands which had become hot from his worry and panic. The room suddenly seemed like a sauna, as Zash realized his hands had started to turn the water to steam. "That's it!" Zash had an idea now. " Pika give me a hand, get the water pipe busted open!" Zahs ordered as he started to open the cabinet below the sink revealing the pipe.

Pika pulled the metal rod out of his pocket, and began to hit the pipe with it. Eventually, he was able to break the pipe, making water burst everywhere. He let out a couple muffled curse words as the water hit his sweatshirt covering his mouth, drenching it and making Pika have to pull it off. "Alright, you're the guy with the plan, now what?" He asked Zash, watching the building burn around them.

" Yeah hopefully this works." He prayed as he dropped to his knees and clasped his hands together. They started to glow white hot and he pressed them against the water steam rose in a pillar of white stinging Zash's eyes. " This will stop it from spreading down the floors." He explained. " The water will keep flooding over the heated area I just made so we can get up and stop the fire." He rose to his feet.
