Milt hurried from rock to rock as he made his way across the lake to Fallen Leaf Copse. He did his best not to look at the deep, dark waters, and to focus on the path ahead but that only lasted for so long. Glancing to the side, Milt couldn't help but shiver. This lake sure was deep. But then again, even two feet of water was deep for him. That's just how you feel when you're a lead weight, or an iron weight in this case.

Milt was more than glad when finally made it onto the island. Wherever he looked, there were leaves in beautiful shades of yellow, amber, and orange, and wherever he stepped, he would frequently hear the crunch of leaves underfoot. To be honest, Milt had no specific reason to come here other than it was a place he had never been to before. Of course the exploration would do him good, but it would also distract him from other things.

Lumina stood at the edge of the lake, looking out across the large body of water to the autumnal woods that shimmered in the center of the lake. She'd been here a few times before, and the place had always struck her as beautiful and mysterious. It was normally pretty peaceful, even the feral pokemon were more subdued than they were in other dungeons.

All in all, it seemed like the perfect place to evolve. She'd finally managed to track down a fire stone at a shop in Grassveil, run by a furfrou. Turns out, he'd had it for a while in the back with no use for it himself. After some haggling, she'd finally managed to get her paws on it. Well, not literally, otherwise she would have evolved right then and there. No, she'd wrapped it in a scrap of loose cloth the furfrou had had lying around -apparently he was some sort of tailor or something?

So, Lumina had spent the last few days contemplating about where and how to evolve. She'd been a vulpix for so long, it was actually kind of hard for her to imagine herself evolving into a ninetales at last! But she had finally decided on the Fallen Leaf Copse, as it was beautiful and the oranges and reds really fit her fiery personality.

Even though the summer was still winding down. Fallen Leaf Copse seemed to be stuck in a perpetual autumn. Finding the magic that was able to do such a thing; now wouldn't that be wonderful. Milt couldn't help but sigh after that thought. That was the job of an explorer, and he still was no explorer. Milt had come close to finding a parter in Grassveil; a Bagon girl he could no longer remember the name of. She seemed pretty excited about forming an exploration team, but when he tried to find her again, she was gone like an amber leaf on the wind.

Milt tugged his power band up his foreleg a little bit. Although he knew that this was a peaceful place with hardly any feral pokemon, he couldn't get himself to take it off. It had gotten him though so much in so little time.

The crunch of leaves grabbed his attention as he looked up, spotting a vulpix not too far away. Curiosity got the better of his as he scurried over to a bush, doing his best not to make a sound by not stepping on any leaves. She seemed to be contemplating something, and held something small in a strap of fabric.

Lumina stowed away the wrapped-up fire stone so that she could carefully cross the stepping stones without dropping the stone or slipping into the lake. That would be awful; to fall into the water! She shuddered at the thought, and cautiously picked her way across the stones.

Once she reached the end of the stepping stones, Lumina looked around. Her paws hit the soft forest floor with a quiet 'thump', and her ears twitched at the sound. For some odd reason, she felt like she was being watched; and she didn't like it. She sniffed at the air, and many scents rushed towards her; mixed plant and pokemon scents that were so muddled none stood out.

Lumina shrugged. Maybe she was being a bit paranoid. After all, last time she had visited this place, she'd gotten robbed of her Joy Ribbon by an outlaw. Which she'd never gotten back; since the outlaw had been an Aerodactyl and flown away faster than she could chase.

Milt felt somewhat bad for snooping, but it wasn't like he had ill intentions. He really wanted to know what was in that fabric, and was a little disheartened when she put it away. As much as he wanted to introduce himself to this friendly looking Vulpix, doing so by coming out of hiding would look might suscpicious.

After looking around for a bit, and seeing nothing suspicious, Lumina decided to proceed further into the forest. She wanted to find the perfect place for her evolution. After all, evolution wasn't something one went into all willy-nilly. Especially not for pokemon like Vulpix, who evolved via stone.

Her evolution site had to be special! It had to be perfect; for she would remember this moment for the rest of her -soon to be- long life! Under her paws, leaves crunched pleasantly. She had always liked the sound of crunching leaves in the fall. That was part of the reason she'd chosen this place to evolve.

This would be the first time Milt would witness an evolution. He wasn't going to miss this, even if he was acting a little shady. Milt crept along as best he could, keeping out of sight as he followed Lumina. However, he wasn't paying attention to where he was going, and ended up tripping over a clump of roots and falling into a small pile of leaves. Zero points for subtlety.

As he got back up, Milt was destracted by a shimmer of gold in the leaves. Forgetting about the Vulpix for a moment, he pushed more of the leaves away to reaveal a... g-gold ribbon?! The little Aron was silent for a few second before scooping up the ribbon and jumping for joy, letting out an audible "woo hoo," that had to have reached Lumina's ears. "I'm gonna be rich! Rich!" he exclaimed. To be honest, Milt didn't know how much the ribbon would go for, but it would certainly give him a lot more poké than he had now.

Lumina kept up her even trot through the forest, still on the lookout for a good place to evolve. She found several items along the way, tucked away in odd places; a light-blue box stashed under a tree root here and a seed hidden in the crook between branches of a bush there. She found a strangely-colored white leaf in the middle of the path she was walking along, and an orange gummi laying next to a green berry of some sort.

Each time she came across one of the times, she picked it up and carefully placed it inside her bag, careful not to jostle her fire stone out of the bag or its wrapping. After a few more moments of walking along, she heard something to her right.

Her ears twitched and she turned her head sharply towards the sound. Not expecting the sound, she hadn't made out what it was before it had stopped, but whomever it was began to speak softly not long after the sound faded. The voice was quiet, but she made out something along the lines of 'gonna be rich!' Lumina frowned and crouched down, darting into the dense undergrowth of the forest to hide herself.

She wasn't sure who was around, but she had the sneaking suspicion that whoever it was, had been following her since she entered the forest. Well, they were going to get a surprise when she snuck up on them instead of the other way around!

Looking back, Milt saw that he had tripped over a big root, and had uprooted inthe process. However, there was no way he could carry the root and the ribbon at the same time. Well there was no contest there! Still, items were items, and although the big root would not benefit him in any way, he would try to come back for it. Milt tied the gold ribbon around his leg, just above his power band, before looking for a place to hide the root. He searched around the area a bit until he spotted a nearby tree. He didn't know Dig, but he could still dig a hole.

It took a minute or two, but Milt finally buried the big root, scattering a few leaves around it so it looked more natural. All that digging was hard work, but Milt just kept smiling as he began to eat the sitrus berry he brought with him. Today was turning out to be great!
