Peaked Interest

Finally the duo had emerged from the tunnels that formed the Black Spiral Staircase again, the sunlight shining on them once more. Or rather it would have, would they not be standing on the Dark Void Peak now, the sky completely black for no discernible reason.
At least there weren't any feral Pokémon to be expected anymore, as William wasn't sure for how long Sova would be able to hold on. He certainly didn't look all that well. And still the Ghost type had no idea what it may be that was causing this in the Normal type.
But now that they were here maybe he would quickly realize that nothing of interest was to be found here and finally get on the way back home again. This had been quite the boring and disconcerting intermission thus far.

"That, I don't know. But it's definitely something having to do with the peak of the mountain." Sova said, beginning to feel the effects of what ever drug the mountain was spiked with again. He wanted to get off the mountain as soon as possible, for fear of experiencing similar hallucinations. "So....if there's nothing left to do here, should we go?" He said, trying to see if the gengar would agree. He didn't want to look scared or upset.

"Guess so. If there's something else up here that might be able to influence me as well, then we would have one major problem. Furthermore I can't find anything of value or interest in the general victinity. So there really is no incentive to remain here for any period of time."
Finally the Eevee was making some sense. Or was that the hallucinations talking?
No matter, getting away from here with the Normal type was one of William's highest priorities at the moment and he was not going to waste that chance, now that he had Sova himself agreeing that they should go home again. A better excuse to get away could not be found.

"Alright then. Lets go. By the way, after we finish this, are you gonna bail on me again? Or are we actually friends?" Sova asked, looking at the gengar. The last time they'd met he didn't actually figure out where William lived. It was a bit disappointing to him to have met someone new and not been able to talk to them again. But now that they had met again, he could sort that out properly. Or perhaps the gengar had no interest in socializing with him more. They had had their fair share of disagreements, after all.

"Bail on you?", the Gengar chuckled.
"All I did was not be in the same room as you for a few days. Ever thought about being a bit overly attached maybe? Now, whether we are friends depends on how you would define the meaning of the term "friend". To some we're acquaintances, friends, buddies, colleagues or what have you. So...are we?"
This was something the Gengar had not been expecting. Was the Eevee actually starting to...like him? Was he actually desiring a friendship-like construct? Where would this lead them? With interest the Ghost type awaited the response of his fuzzy companion.

"I hope so. You seem like you try not to act like it, but you're pretty nice." Sova said, hopeful his ally would agree to also be his friend. After all, they'd met twice and despite some small arguments they didn't dislike each other. Or at least Sova didn't dislike William. He also hoped he could learn a lot from the superior gengar.

"So, I live in Grassveil and I like to hang out at the guild when I'm not doing anything. And you?" He said, hoping the gengar would tell his home or at least some places he liked being at.

The Gengar shrugged.
"I have been living in the forest for an amount of time longer than most can imagine. My ability to interpet social situations has become a bit rusty in the process. Anyway, I now live at the guild as well. If there are no missions to do, I tend to find myself reading. Occassionally however I go out, at night especially, and enjoy the night. My favourite place would be the Cattail Marshes, but I have to discourage you from going there at night. The ground is a treacherous one and one that is easy to sink into. Without the ability to levitate one would most likely be likely to drown by accident."
Now this was an issue. On the one hand the Eevee had asked for William's favourite activities, so he had to give some kind of answer. On the other hand the Ghost type figured that it would not be a good idea for the Normal type to perform those rather dangerous activities. Yet the Eevee would most likely try out whatever he proposed to him...

Sova giggled a bit. "I've been to the cattail marsh at night. More than once. I love it there, it gets so pretty at night. I've been to a lot of places, you know. You don't need to worry so much about me, I can keep up." He said, hoping to eventually show the gengar he was an at least somewhat capable explorer. He thought even making it to this mountain would better William's views of him, but the gengar was still advising him not to go to places, as if he couldn't handle them.

"So now you retroactively don't listen to me already.", the Gengar chuckled.
"When I tell you not to go somewhere you'll inevitably end up telling me that you've been there already. Well, it's your life you're risking."
What was it with that ball of fur? For some reason he always was where it was dangerous, insisting on doing everything he was told not to do. Well, at least they seemed to have survived this little adventure. Hopefully the Eevee would be at least a little more careful from now on. Oh, what was William thinking? Obviously Sova would be as reckless as ever, but the thought of him having learned something here - unrealistic as it may be - was at least somewhat comforting.

Sova giggled again. "Oh, I haven't been EVERYWHERE. Not yet at least. I bet you haven't either, so maybe we could go everywhere together. That sounds fun, right?" He asked enthusiastically, as if he hadn't just seen a hallucinated image of his dead mother.... In reality, his hazy state of mind allowed him to forget about things much more easily, but staying much longer could cause it to happen again....he wouldn't be able to take seeing it again.

"I am very, very old and can fly. What makes you think that I haven't been everywhere already?", the Gengar chuckled once more.
"But you are correct. While I have explored many a place, I have not yet been everywhere. Almost everywhere though. So...now I seem to have found employment as a tour guide it seems."
And of course the Eevee just had to anounce travel plans to go adventuring in even more regions, most of them rather dangerous. This would mean that William would spend many a day following around a brown ball of fur without any sense of self-preservation through perilous terrain of all kinds. Great.

"You? Tour guide? You don't even know what's up with this mountain." Sova said with a giggle. He actually had his doubts that the gengar would even consider adventuring with him, but he seemed willing. "I'd call you more of a....teacher. That, you're good at....sometimes." He continued, hoping he could prompt William to teach him more in the future. After all, he had no one left to look up to and learn from....

Losing himself in these sad thoughts for a moment gave the strange drug the edge on him. He felt himself being fully effected by it again, the voice beginning to return. He couldn't yet make out what it was saying, but he was now too dazed to think to run away from the peak. Besides, running down the mountain would be too dangerous.

"Well, it is a bit difficult to know about things you can't sense in the slightest, wouldn't you agree?", the Gengar replied to the Eevee's comment.
"But if you think of me as a teacher...then you have detention, young man!"
For some reason the brown ball of fur seemed to become attached to the spectral Pokémon. Now this was something William certainly had not expected. But maybe it would allow for him to steer the Normal type away from some of the more dangerous situations, so it couldn't be all bad.
"Heh, didn't expect the teacher role. But as I have come to know you I don't get much of a say in this matter now, do I?"

Sova listened quietly, half because he was enjoying the conversation and half because he was starting to have difficulties focusing again. Just as the voice began to become clear, saying his name again, he heard William's last comment. It was a complete acceptance of his offer. It was just the jolt of happiness he needed to stay stable.

"Nope! And since I'm in detention....you have to stay with me until it's over, since you're the teacher." He joked.

"Or I'll carry you to some high place you can't get down from on your own.", William threatened jokingly.
"Never underestimate the power of a Ghost type with nothing better to do."
This Pokémon really was someone else. It had been a while since the Ghost type had been able to joke this freely with another Pokémon without then taking him seriously all the time and running away screaming. It certainly was interesting how few Pokémon there were with a functioning sense of sarcasm and the belief that a random Pokémon would attack them in the middle of town for no good reason.

"Oh, but you DO have something better to do. You must make sure I don't get into trouble, after all. As much as I'd like to get thrown into some dangerous situation, you'd just be making more work for your self." Sova joked back. He couldn't understand why anyone would think this gengar was evil. Disliking, perhaps, but there was nothing evil at all about the ghost.

Sova wondered if perhaps William would become a good friend to him. He'd had plenty of friends, but never any really close friends.
