Notes: Don't own the game, fic purely for personal enjoyment/other people's enjoyment if they happen to like it, not making any money off this, yadda yadda.
Just a thing I wanted to write, since my Nuzlocke characters won't leave me alone. Here be violence, dark themes, and colorful language; consider yourselves warned.
Across the Veil of Shadows
Prologue: Waiting
-----------------
"Groudon shitting a red-brick house," announced Miazi, "where the hell are we now?"
"Miazi," Diagaerm warned. "Manners."
The luxio rolled her eyes. "We're not in the city yet." Her tail flicked, gaining speed. "Not even close. We're just sitting here, on a hillside. Watching." She gave the geodude a sidelong glance. "Remind me why we're not in the city yet?"
Diagaerm didn't move from her perch, her rocky form blending into the ground. "Because we don't know what's waiting for us there, and we're separated from our team, and I don't feel comfortable going in there alone."
"So what if they're not even here? Wherever here is. Palkia knows how far we are from Johto. It's been two days, Di, we need to move on."
"We need to wait," said Diagaerm, her voice infuriatingly flat and calm. "They'd wait for us." She glanced at Miazi. "Abitiri would wait for you."
Miazi scowled. "Abitiri would
look for me. He'd at least be
doing something!" Her ear twitched, flattened. "We're not finding any information just sitting here, and we're not going to find the crew like this either."
"I suppose we won't, then. We're not moving."
Miazi snorted and opened her mouth to argue, but Diagaerm had closed her eyes and tucked in her arms, and that was that. She had half a mind to just walk away and leave her there, but the idea of being alone in these strange woods didn't appeal to her.
Grumbling, the luxio settled herself into a pile of twigs and leaves. Tomorrow, she decided. If Diagaerm wasn't ready to move tomorrow, she'd find her stony ass being rolled into town, so help her Arceus. Miazi had had it
up to here with waiting.
Besides, she thought drowsily, as she hazed her way into sleep,
this place gives me the creeps. As the day wound to a close and lights came on throughout the village, one by one, the sun set over the woods surrounding Pokemon Square.
In the darkness, something rose up after it.
