The Plague of Selance Empty
PostSubject: The Plague of Selance   The Plague of Selance EmptyThu Aug 09, 2012 10:40 pm

In the three hundred and second year of the humans' God, darkness had fallen on Toria. For the time the elves had no direct assault on their people from the darkness and the creatures it breeds. Sadly that had ended very quickly.
One day an orc had traveled to Selance, the elven capital, to trade for some weapons. The elves obliged, their indifference towards the orcs' past violence might be seen as a virtue by some, or an act or treachery by others. On this day, however, the elves would have sealed their city's fate, destruction. The orc, either out of curiosity or malevolent intent, wandered into a cave right on the edge of Selance's docks. There it is believed he was ambushed and killed by the mindless undead the darkness had brought.
Within him, though, was the seed that is to blame for Selance's death, the seed of Darkwater Abbey's plague. Surprisingly it flourished off the undead; it's victims giving it a safe home that would not be killed by it. This gave it time to grow, mutate...evolve. The elves, sadly, did not take notice of this danger.
They shunned the cave, and plans were being made to seal it off. These plans went into action just mere moments too late. Two elves by the name of Reyna and Urino walked to the cave's entrance, carrying explosives traded by the orcs. Urino placed the explosives as the orc who gave them to him and his mate had instructed. He commented on the orcs surprising intelligence in weaponry and explosives to his mate, who in turn joked about their idiocy on hygiene and manners. Urino laughed at this, joined by his mate who began to scream. Urino looked at his mate, who was pointing at something just above his hunched body. He looked up only to see a horribly decomposed hand grab his face and drag him into the cave. Reyna, either acting on love or stupidity, jumped into the cave after her mate and the undead creature. Neither of them returned.
A day later the Council, including the High Elf King, Seye Nogard, questioned the citizens of Selance about the whereabouts of the two missing elves. no one knew, as the time of their disappearance was planned almost perfectly; no one was at the docks but them. Seye and his five Council members decided that the two must have gotten hurt while setting up the explosives, as such they ordered a small team of elves into the cave to aid them. A few mere moments later the screams of that team were echoing through the forest. Panic set in and the elves began to shy away from the cave. They had good reason too, as a shadowy figure slowly climbed out of it, the figure was the slightly decomposed body of Urino.
Urino, either out of a twisted consciousness from the effect of the plague, or of the true worry from his soul, said one thing to the crowd before his decomposing husk, "Run." He was then joined by an entire army of the undead and giant spiders. Then it was pure chaos. The 5 Council members and High Elf King began rushing their citizens back, this cost them dearly as 3 of the five Council members became the first victims of the slaughter. Seye, after reaching the opposite side of the bridge, fired at it with a flaming arrow. That did not deter the undead much, sadly. The elves were in a frenzy, running to their families to protect them, the edges of Selance to get away, or just standing their in shock. Few lived to tell the tale, and those that did live may wish that they didn't.
In all, the remaining Council members and the High Elf King have only accounted for five or six out of hundreds of elves. Seye, though, was not frightened by such a large drop in numbers, as he immediately began the plans to create a new city, one grander and safer than Selance, and he named it Adertha, Reunite.
