» Relatives: Important Family Details (no on-site relations):
General Family Descriptions Monteiro An old family that has spanned many species and many decades in the Grima camps. The camps have essentially become their home at this point; they accept debt as their reality and live as best they can in the conditions they've been dealing with. They don't identify with any life or roots outside of Grima anymore. They embrace the family castes; in fact they've likely been around the camps nearly as long as the particular system has been. They aren't especially staunch about the rules like some purist families and families from newer generations are though. They've lived with it so long that it's second nature to them, and they practice the traditions liberally.
Fonseca A family of Lycanroc and Arbok. Once a smaller family family from Rainfront Town that went under when their buisness failed, they have now been in the camps for four generations trying desperately to get out of their forebearer's debt. They entered the camps during a particularly bad depression, when conditions in the already crude labor camps took a sharp turn for the worst. During this time, the caste system picked up in popularity as a method of keeping order and distributing rations, and many newer families rushed blindly to embrace it at the encouragement of older practitioners. The Fonseca continue to respect the tradition very seriously; placing high importance in the well-being of the family (mostly as a way of justifying whatever is necesary to get themselves out of the camps).
Barros A family of Blaziken and Ambipom with a small amount of wealth, also from Rainfront Town. They were ordinary in terms of family traditions; they had never been in debt so they had never attended the Grima labor camps, thus they had never been exposed to the family caste system that was founded by the poor workers there. Being a relatively small family, only an older couple, their children, and their grandchildren were still established in the town. The elder man and his two children passed away in an accident, leaving only the grandmother and the couple's only son. The tiny wealth they had disappeared as soon as the son took up gambling; effectively snuffing out their name as one of note in the town.
Family Member Descriptions
- Contained Here:
-Sabela Monteiro: Mother. Lycanroc (Midnight). Soft-spoken, level-headed. Tends to keep her opinions to herself after the events leading to her becoming ex-communicated from her family. Daughter of a poor family stuck in Grima for four generations. She was encouraged to marry out of the town in order to provide the family with the funds to pay their way out of Grima. Being a lonely character who relied heavily on founded, intimate relationships, she balked at the idea. She accepted her responsibility to help remove the family, but she found no joy in the idea of having to build up a completely new life with a stranger, so intensly so that it brought her to question the traditions her family practiced. She was shamed for evolving during the night and not during the day. Her family had notoriously avoided the evolution due to it's intimidating appeal, and on top of that they believed it would lessen her chances to find a husband - especially outside of Grima. As time passed without Sabela meeting anyone from the outside, she decided that she would not find anyone. She felt she had ruined her chances and chose to accept the proposal from a Lopunny that had been her closest friend in Grima since childhood. She was again scorned for this. When visitors (traveling merchants) finally came by the Grima outpost, Sabela was confronted by a man who was interested in her. She was then shunned entirely by her family for refusing to have an out-of-wedlock relationsip with him. Despite her excommunication from the family, Sabela still believed in the importance of the tight family unit. She still respected the family caste system and modeled their home life after it's traditions. She also respected Atilio's more liberal family veiws, which they negotiated with. She was willing to forgo some of the tradition she had grown up with as long as the importance of the family remained emphasized. She reacted to most of the events in their family rather mildly and rationally up until the passing of Cintia, Sabela's sister and her emotional rock. After the death of her sister and her sister's husband, she experienced a serious depression. She took in her sister's children and homeschooled them through this. By the time her oldest was old enough to leave home, the stress she experienced had transformed her into a very enigmatic and distant person. There were times where she would even be completely catatonic and unmoved by the people around her. She was eventually rendered entirely mute. She never stopped working in the mines through all this; excluding those catatonic episodes she would experience.
-Atilio Monteiro: Father. Lopunny. A dreamer, an optimist, and highly motivated (especially by family). Son of a poor family that had been in Grima for way more generations. Mother was a small-time criminal and was out of the picture, left him on his father's doorstep. Father worked for a mining company with the rest of the family, trying in vain to pay off a debt that was compounding exponantially. They had stopped outsourcing for financial options, and were involved in the other various financial endeavors in Grima. Because of this, Atilio had far more freedoms and faced far less risk of shame or shunning than Sabela. He had been friends with Sabela since they were small, as part of her family was assigned to work in the mine. The two took solace in each other's various idealisms; Atilio appreciating Sabela's quiet commitment while Sabela admired Atilio's apparent ability to make the impossible possible. He couldn't fully understand why she remained so loyal to the traditions that had tormented her. He tried to introduce her into his family so that she might find she had alternatives; mostly succeeded in convincing his family members to recognize her. Eventually proposed to her privately and arranged a silent wedding so she could avoid more shame. Failed to help her avoid shame, felt terrible, worked twice as hard to help her move on. Switched from mining to pit fighting for a while after finding a vein of mega stone in the mines, worked with his brother who would predict if his opponent would die or if he were about to die, and would fight and throw matches based on this info. Eventually got Sabela's sister's husband involved in this. Brother used these funds to invest in land and work out a new mine, left Atilio out of the deed. Felt responsible for the inevitable death of Sebela's sister and their husband, reviled his brother for it. Eventually had to stop fighting to to permanent damage and return to mining. Sabela falling ill also required him to take over various home tasks that she was no longer able to complete; such as homeschooling the Barros children. He grew depressed and melancholy himself, but did not fully give up hope and still acts rather amiably, albeit very tired and worn. Plans to gather the family and run away from the Grima with them.
-Uxia Monteiro: Sister, 2nd oldest. Rockruff. As the second oldest, she spent a lot of time helping Telma with the family work from the time she was old enough to start taking on such responsibilities. They spent a lot of time together, so unsurprisingly she and Telma felt like they were the siblings that understood each other the best out of all of them. Uxia was the one Telma confided in, she was the one sibling that Telma didn't feel like she had to carry on her back, and she worked hard to ensure Telma felt that way despite the caste difference that sepparated them. Uxia respected and acknowledged the importance of the ideas behind the system her family followed, but it always irked her that these sepparations had to exist between her and the person closest to her in her life. She assisted Telma in getting out to see what Kit and *insert uncle here* were doing by covering some of her work, and assisted Telma in the sabotage of their uncle very actively, being the second most involved in the revolution. When problems began arising with the other siblings, Uxia would cover work for them as well with the assistance of Tadue and Telma (until Telma's eventual departure) She ensured Telma 's exemption from the family debt was secured. and helped her escape when the time came.
-Rui Monteiro: Brother, 3rd oldest: Lopunny. Dim in the mind but well-meaning and caring outside of the occasional mood swing. He also began working with his two elder siblings and his elder cousin in the mine when he was old enough. Once the stones were discovered, be immediately began training to enter into the fighting enterprise as well, hoping to inherit his father's stone so that his father would stop attending the fights. Due to hoisting the burden of both jobs, Rui lost out on much of the already scant homeschooling that his siblings got, though they helped him catch up as best as they could. After the betrayal of his uncle, Rui had to continue his career in fighting without the aid of the uncle's predictions. He eventually got hurt so badly that he was disabled even after recovery; being rendered immobile due to damage to his nerves. As a paraplegic, he could only continue working in the mine as a sorter and an overseer and mostly had to be supported by the rest of the family. He feels a lot of remorse over being so high on the sibling scale but being unable to do much of anything. To this day, he refuses to tell how he was crippled, or who crippled him.
-Eufemia Monteiro: Sister, 4th oldest. Buneary. The most traditional of the six siblings. Has a neutral feeling towards her mother and her family's plight; she feels her mother's decisions are wrong and the family acts out of tradition but she refuses to shun anyone but the two youngest siblings out of respect for the caste system that applies to age in the culture. She doesn't hide her verbal conflicts with the more liberal siblings like she does he active conflicts, though. The two she has the most contention with are her cousin Carme and Telma. She scorns Telma for the period in time that she starts to drift from her work to investigate Kit and her Uncle, but again due to her respect for Telma as her elder does not shun her. She instead sent the message by protesting her work, making things harder on Telma as what she believes is a message that is well within her right to send. This came back to haunt her later, however. After the crippling of Rui and the process of falling out with Kit's Uncle, Eufemia came under her Uncle's eye as his next fighting enterprise. He saw her little working strikes as pointless and lazy actions, and proceeded to punish her for it until she was forced to stop. Eventually the treatment of her uncle caused her to start begrugingly empathizing with Telma's plans, and when the night finally came she turned a blind eye. After that point, her main concern became caring for the her two youngest siblings, who had endured these tragedies as young children.
-Rute Monteiro: Sister, 5th oldest. Rockruff. Born just a year before the deaths of Cintia and Roque. Also very young during the event of the rebellion against Ulisses, though she was just old enough to start accepting responsibilities. She was very close with Eufemia, so when Ulisses started causing Eufemia to suffer she was outraged. She wanted to be as involved as possible in the strike against their uncle; including transporting secret messages and seeing payment and incentives to those who participated. Had Uxia not prevented her, she would have participated in the hit itself as well. She still has some animosity towards Uxia for this and to Uxia and Telma both for "hogging all the glory" for themselves; believing they wanted to be seen as the "family's saviors" alone. Eufemia's influence encourages her to be civil, but as a child she has a hard time containing it.
-Tadeu Monteiro: Brother, youngest. Rockruff. Born after the time of Cintia and Roque's deaths. Largely uninvolved with the plot against Ulisses, though he has an ideallic veiw of Telma as a hero that stopped a very bad family member from bullying their family. Due to not having a lot of time spent with Telma before her departure, he will grow up with this impression of her. He began working as early as possible in hopes that he could live up to his other elder siblings, wanting to pick up the slack so well that Telma's absence is not felt. He is eager to find her one day and see what such a "heroic" pokemon looks like in real life.
-Cintia Barros: Aunt, deceased. Arbok. Outspoken and ambitious, pig-headed at times, but more often then not ruled by sense (or what she percieves as sense). Sabela's younger sister and closest friend besides Atilio. She left the family with Sabela after the fallout of Sabela's evolution scorning out of respect and concern for her. The family wished to scorn her as well for this, but as the gesture fell in line with the order of respect among the family's age cast they could not condemn what she had doen within their rules. This did not save her from her family's disdain, however; as she was left out and ignored intentionally by many of the family members, and was regarded begrudgingly by the rest. For this reason, she and Sabela grew even closer after their departure, having only each other and their few friends to depend on. When they were children, Cintia introduced Atilio and Sabela; though she found him boring she believed he would be an especially good force of stability in Sabela's life and that they would get along quite well. She witnessed their wedding when no one else in the family would, another action that earned her both respect and disdain. She was the main source of encouragement when Sabela went through the expulsion from her family, and in fact Cintia was a major source of encouragement for the entire family. In general, she looked down on this indecision in her family; often challenging them to "just pick a side" instead of stringing her along half-heartedly. It was quite common for her to make light of the flawed use of the caste system in their family by openly mocking it and joking about it while she and her sister were working. Her loud humor attracted the attention of her husband Roque Barros. The two of them got along swimmingly, maybe even too much so as their outspoken natures often had them butting heads. Loudly. The one thing they never did, however, was fight seriously. They were not without respect or genuine care, however; it was a way for both of them to relieve the frustration of working a monotonous job that offered little variation. Cintia and Roque were both fairly tough, so it wasn't uncommon for them to take physical jabs intended as emphasis at each other in tandem with the verbal. They came to a point where both had to acknowledge their unrest, leading them to look into fighting. Though they met a rocky start, they began to do exceedingly well when they began to fight as a tag team. They had a fair ammount of infamy and even some fans even before Ulisses came up with his buisness venture, and the addition of the glamour of Roque's mega stone only perpetuated this. When Ulisses opened the family's mine, both she and Roque began mining again in order to hopefully help the family take off. The two of them were the first to start talking down about Ulisses, though his utter disregard for their opinion made it hard for them to argue, frustrating them. They only conceeded to continue working with him in the interest of ensuring their earnings had a chance of making it to the family debt, which Ulisses had since bought out. They were the highest earners in the family at the time, so their presence made a difference. The fights were not easy on Cintia and Roque, and between that and the mine work the two of them were pushed to their limit. Eventually, Cintia was injured by a slag cart when she found herself unable to push it due to a fight injury affecting her muscle control, and it rolled backwards over her body. She only partially recovered from the injury, and she warned Ulisses upon her return to the ring that she and Roque could no longer handle the more intense fights. She was proved correct when Ulisses entered them in a fight for mega evolutions, and an opposing Slowbro manipulated the wound in the middle of the fight in order to secure the win. Cintia fell almost immediately after this, her conciousness waining as the wound intensified. She had passed before they could even remove her from the ring.
-Roque Barros: Uncle, deceased. Blaziken. Just a guy from Rainfront who gambled waaaaaaaaay too much. His only remaining family was his elderly grandmother, so there wasn't anyone to bail him out of his debt. Due to the amount of money he owned being miniscule (relatively), as well as being the first generation from his family to owe, he was given a pardon in the form of an easier "overseer" position in the work camp. In general, he was mostly annoyed with the inconvenience of his term at the camp. His loud mouth made this apparent where his lack of active protest didn't; meaning though he liked to talk shit about the unfair system he didn't make any attempts to act out against it either. He mostly kept his head down, as his "firey" personality had gotten him in enough trouble in the past that he knew to just do what he needed to get by and get out of that dump. He very quickly took an interest in the equally boisterous personality of Cintia Fonseca, and the two grew particularly close. She drew him into the little satelite family that was forming between herself, Sabela and Atilio. In them, Roque found the beginnings of a nuclear anchor that he hadn't had in his early life. It was around this time that his first kid, Valentim, was hatched. The arrival of a child was a complete surprise to himself and Cintia; they hadn't planned for any commitment that big and he struggled at first with how to handle the situation. He found he warmed up to children rather quickly though, and as the little family grew with the introduction of Telma and Uxia he was more than pleased to horse around with the kiddos. He ended up staying long past his due was paid; sharing the family's responsibility to generate payment now as an actual member. He struggled now and again with depression, but was far too stubborn and committed to turn back on his decisions. He found an outlet for his conflicting emotions in the fight scheme that had been devised by Ulisses, becoming completely engrossed in it. He started to lose touch with the family ties that had been so richly alive in him before. He grew more and more numb as the days passed. He would have likely carried on like this until he couldn't fight anymore, resigned to a life of indifference, had it not been for the accident that his wife had. Cintia's injury shocked him with deep guilt, and he grew increasingly remorseful. When he and Cintia entered their last fight together, he felt it was his only chance to make things up to the family he had dissappointed. He stayed in the fight until he had been beaten senseless, long after Cintia was already gone. He only lasted a few days with his injuries, passing without ever truly knowing what happened to his beloved Cintia.
-Carme Barros: Cousin (female). Ekans. Same age as Eufemia. She and her brother were raised more liberally than Telma and her siblings due to their father's outside influence. Carme only practiced the caste traditions when she was around Telma's family. She found it to be an annoyance when she just wanted to get close to the older siblings that she admired. She didn't particularly see the value in the system after so much negative feedback from it. She hated being in the same cast as Eufemia as she wanted nothing to do with the caste-appreciating Buneary, and often got into spats with her out of frustration. She got along much better with Rui, breaking the rules frequently to talk deeply with him. He helped her process the loss of her parents, and she still helps him manuever as best as she possibly can. She was outraged by both the death of her parents and the crippling of Rui to the point where she openly cried out for justice to the family members, despite how poorly violence against family members was veiwed. She still sides with Telma and the hit, though she also doesn't believe enough was done. She's still generally not over everything that happened.
-Valentim Barros: Cousin (male). Combusken. Older than Telma by a little over a year. For a time, he was very close with Telma, Uxia, and even Rui during the time when his father would frequently interact with them and take them around. He became close with those three, particularly Telma and Uxia. Valentim had the same liberal upbringing as Carme, although he did not experience the same frustrations as her (he didn't encounter as many in the first place seeing as he was older rather than younger) and moreover embraced this veiw from a completely different place than she did. He developed a much more pessimistic understanding of the events surrounding him. As the attention from his father faded, he began to withdraw again in turn and developed antisocial tendancies; only really communicating well with he three cousins. The verbal and sometimes physical torment he recieved from Claudio also increased as the presence of his father and mother decreased, and while he was small this severly impacted his self-esteem, understandably. The torment from Claudio never really stopped until Valentim stopped it himself, and that experience combined with the other aspects of his world in the camps caused him to develop a very pessimistic world veiw despite the ample postive reinforcement he had access to. He found that involvement in family affairs was typically pointless no matter how you approached them, and refused to get involved in any of it. He preferred getting involved in things with clear, objective gains, such as winning fights and making progress in the mines. Unlike his sister, he heavily protested the plot against Ulisses. He argued that it was a worthless endeavor that would solve no problems and only welcome more problems. Ended up playing a role in the act at the very end despite his adversion, as he decided action was better than inaction.
-Claudio Fonseca: Uncle. Lycanroc (Midday). Older sibling of Sabela. A coward and an ass; generally a source of discomfort in the family. He was shamed by the family and was forced to leave their family "home" for a time to ammend for skimming money from the family to feed taste for black market merchandise. During that time, he had nowhere to go due to a reputation for being an ass and just generally being unpleasent to be around. Sabela [and Atilio] took him in during this time, both out of caste obligation and because they were the only ones who were remotely willing. He was essentially a thorne in the side the entire time he was there. He contributed nothing to the houshold while he lived there (any work he did was counted towards the Fonseca family's dues), he would consistantly berate Sabela and gave none of the adults respect. He would verbally attack the children when the parents weren't around. Valentim in particular recieved a lot of bullying from Claudio when he was small, up until the point where Valentim realized that Claudio was weaker than him. Claudio said and did nothing about the increasingly terrible treatement coming from Ulisses. Left without a word when his family allowed him to return.
-Batari Monteiro: Aunt. Meinshao. A woman from Rainfront who Ulisses married and brought down to the family land before the time of Rui's disabling wound. She was the daughter of a family who specialized in the buisness of entertainment. Batari dedicated a lot of time researching the numbers around what attracted customers and what the public tended to like. She knew gamblers very, very well, in particular. Her skills were unique and for the most part unmatched, but her siblings were all gifted to similar degrees and she ended up with a disproportionately small part of her family's company. She accepted Ulisses's marriage proposal after learning about he fighting plans, seeing the potential that could be raised there. Her skills became the driving force behind their success. The fighting scheme was basically hers and the mines benefitted from her scheduling. She became tired of Ulisses claiming face after a while, his outwardly decietful nature too much for even her buisness sensibilities to handle. She decided to put out the hit on him, in the interest of actually claiming her own accomplishments instead of playing passive like she had before. She slowly set aside a large fund to buy freedom as the reward for the deed, and actually made good on her promise when she did. It is speculated that she is behid why Ulisses still hasn't woken up from his injuries, but there's no confirmation to support it.
-Ulisses Monteiro (in a Coma): Uncle, same age as Atilio. Gothitelle. He was a fairly textbook member of the Monteiro family; he wasn't especially strong in the mines so he ended up doing a lot of advising and medical work. He predicted the average miner death numbers and would either make plans to prevent the deaths or send tips to the mine owners about the oncoming staffing holes so that they could plan ahead. He spent so much time immersed in the statistics of death that he desensitized himself by diminishing the value of life in his mind to cope. He became a frequent liar and would say whatever he thought people needed to hear, however he didn't do this lightly. Rarely did a lie come out of his mouth that he wasn't prepared to hide or obscure in case something fell through. He was careful about preserving his credibility. People became a game to him, without him even realizing it. He only held the very necessary in high regard, such as his equal brother Atilio. He tried to support Atilio through the various dramas in his life however he could; he was rather indifferent to most things himself and most of his investment was just due to the events involving Atilio. He wasn't even sure if he really cared about Atilio, but he also wanted to feel like he had bonds and people who appreciated him. When Atilio introduced Sabela Ulisses was more than happy to accept her for that reason, treating her the exact same way as he treated Atilio. When the two fell out on their own, Ulisses began the fight project as a way to help support them by lessening the impact of the debt they would have to accept to start building their lives. It was meant to be a passing thing, until the discovery of mega stones in the mines made Ulisses more confident. He started organizing more and more and more fights, and it took him no time at all to notice how the earnings were rapidly approaching the point where they would match the interest on the debt. He realized he could actually possibly be free. He was unsure at first. Though he was selfish, he had never done anything this potently selfish up to this point. He buisied himself in other ways while he debated over his dilemma internally. It was around this point that he came into contact with Batari Tristet, and eventually confided in her the position he was in and what he was thinking about doing. She was all the encouragement he needed to actually act on his motivations; marrying her and using her resource pool to cover the last of what he needed to escape his own debt. He convinced the rest of the family (through Atilio) that he had done this so that he could purchase the rights to a patch of land he had forseen was greatly profitable, and to sequestor the family's debt so that they could pay it off independantly. He gave another great many complicated reasons why his had to be the only name on the deed so that he would be left as the sole proprietor of the family's pursuits and could continue to do as he pleased uncontested. Ulisses was the first in a nearly untrackable number of his generations to be free from the Grima. The sense of freedom overwhelmed him. He continued to treat his family's as a game, gambling more and more in pursuit of a bigger and better gain. He lost the one tie of respect that had kept him anchored to his family's plight emotionally, though in his mind he was still convinced that working for their benefit. It wasn't entirely false an entirely false thought; but his family was also far from being his first priority at this point. This became glaringly apparent when he chose to bet against Cintia and Roque after forseeing their death in the ring. He grew hostile towards those below him while still ejecting the same lines of familial solidarity at them, swearing that anything he did was in pursuit of good for the family. He relied on the previous reliability of his visions to back him up and keep him useful within the family's eyes; but it was mostly a formality at this point as there wasn't much they could do to protest him. He continued on this way until an attack from his family sent him into a vegetable-like state; unable to forsee his particular demise with the lack of an actual death to clarify his sight.

» Personality: Telma is a wild, no-filter type of Pokemon at heart, but she's only completely comfortable acting that way around Pokemon who were at or around her age. She was raised in a mildly conservative family in an age cast culture, so she was taught that there were specific ways to act around Pokemon who were either older or younger than her. This conditioning has largely faded in the wake of her wilder, independent life. Some behaviors, such as being silent and respectful around elders or restrained and responsible (and sometimes patronizing) around younger Pokemon, still resurface, but it's largely dependent on who exactly she's interacting with. Pokemon who are her age always have been and always will be fair game. Though she functions as a loner, this strong tie to a nuclear family makes her want to be around other pokemon and she will seek them out when her whims drive her to. She will seek specific pokemon out tenaciously if she feels like she has "a real connection" with them. Nobody but Telma knows exactly what that means. As a Vigilante and as a person, Telma is driven by an inner conflict of law and justice. Generally, she agrees that justice is paramount, and though the purpose of law is to serve justice even though it often falls short. However the importance of culture in her childhood taught her that some laws differ based on the thoughts of the people, and the spirit of that should be respected (though she doesn't always obey them herself). As evidenced by her indecision on such a fundamental part of her life, Telma acts in highly contradictory ways that can even make her out to be a hypocrite (which, to some extent, she is). She doesn't see anything wrong with this; adaptation has been the thing that has gotten her to this point and she subscribes to it as a survival strategy. Despite these morally heavy inner workings, Telma comes across as a hyper goof. This is in some part to who she is naturally, and it is also a manifestation of the freedom she feels while no longer being under the burden of responsibility to the family caste and those who are younger than her. Telma is highly motivated; sometimes to the extent of being a downright workaholic. She feels paranoid and stressed out if she's not actively pursuing a case or a paycheck, a trait that also roots itself in her upbringing. She still feels a need to provide something; she constantly has the nagging feeling that things will build up exponentially if she isn't constantly doing something about it. When this feeling is really bothering her, she'll be noticeably depressed and aggressive. On top of all of this, Telma is also terrible with money. This may not be something you'd expect from a child from a family with negative finances to their names, but it is a habit that is deeply rooted in the mechanics that shaped her personality. What money she doesn't send to contribute to her family's debt she considers her own, and is more than happy to do with it however she pleases. She feels like if she made it through so much of her life without money, she can make it through life now as she gets it. She'd rather have the experiences, items, and other goods that improve her life rather than hang on to some cash. Not to mention, it's heavy and it's a burden.

Ai!, Ui!, Ai de mim; it mus' be SOME kinda bad news day if you're eager to chat with a resident of the local outlaw board to get a story in. ....That bein' said....... Fire away! Haven't had someone come to me to talk in a long time, an' I never been in a paper before! Ya gonna put a picture of me in with it or somethin'? I've never had a picture taken either! Alright alright, where do we start?"

"You wanna know why I like what I do? Well, uh, I hate to be the smartass that nobody asked for, but I like watchin' criminals go down. Gettin' what they deserve, yadda yadda add another appropriate cliche here. In some cases, I like to make sure they get more than a little scolding, a swat on the wrist, and a little sit in the naughty naughty no-no corner. There's not a whole lot more to it than that; if you're gonna screw things up you gotta do your part to make it right again, no matter who you are. ......Oooooh, you wanna know why I like what I do more than, like, mercenary work? .....Well, yes I'm different from a mercenary! Little offensive, doncha think? Well, in any case, the major difference between me n' a mercenary is that I don't need money to work, 'least I think so. 'Course, I gotta take some payed jobs 'cause I'm not made o' money like the clowns in the comic books; an' this is just the best way to enjoy ekein' out a livin'. I'm tryin' to help out at the end of the day..... but I ain't really the cop-y type, if you catch my drift. I like having the freedom to clean out the mold and dirt that slips between the cracks, the stuff that your mom says 's fine because no one'll see it anyways. ......Well, yes. I am aware that I too have a nasty little habit of lawbreakin' myself on the occasion; it's an unfortunate part of the job description. I'll find a way to live with myself; prob'ly won't have to for long anyways."
Living Unrooted (Anarchy) -
"Laws're a necessary part of keeping any place sane and functionable, I'll give anybody that. But I'd reckon that there's just as much a need for the opportunity to rule one's self. Liberdade, sim? Everybody deserves to have a chance at a life that feels natural to them. You get your ass trapped too far down South and you end up owin' anybody anything down there, then you're basically a slave. Just squatting your life away on borrowed land so someone else can eat the dinner you're haulin' rocks for. Can't even call your life your own, really. How can you justify a kid born to pay the dues of a relative so old the bones don't even exist anymore? ...If they didn't have bones to begin with? Alright, listen here smartass... ...Fine, fine, I won't get off topic if you don't distract me. Anyways, sure, I prefer life untethered. After livin' in an indentured community I don't trust nobody to govern my life for me. Would you? I think no; years of watchin' your family exploited relentlessly kinda takes that capacity right outta you. I fully accept that I can't live in any town or city because I just don't wanna have to live by their rules, and if I'm not gonna play nice then I don't deserve to live there. I want all the rights I wasn't allowed to have back home and if I gotta live on my own to get 'em? That's no skin off my nose. Yeah, I'm aware that makes me a big ugly hypocrite in the big scheme of things, but I tend to think it makes me more qualified for the job. Who better to hunt the defectors than a defector themselves? ...Aside from all that heavy stuff though, I also appreciate the peace of mind that comes from livin' alone. Ain't gotta worry 'bout a tax, or a boss man yellin'. When I'm alone I can just relax and be with my thoughts, and when I'm with people they're people I'm choosin' to be with. Ain't no opinion more reliable than my own, and there ain't a form of getting screwed over more refreshing than screwing yourself over. There're plenty of bright-eyed explorers out there; they can be my neighbors. Don't desire havin' a house when there's them and caves all over the place."
Drinking/Partying -
"Drinking is my favorite sport. It absolutely is a sport. And I'm great at it. There ain't a soul out there that can drink like I do. Some might drink more, and some might certainly drink faster, but they don't have half the charisma I've got when I dip into the sauce. Nine times outta ten I'm bringin' something entertaining to the bar when I go. Granted, five of those nine times it's a bar fight. I think. My statistics are based on mostly blurs so I can't 100% confirm that, it could be more or maybe less. In my defense, I'm not typically lookin' to start trouble. I just don't wanna be the shmuck at the end of the bar drinking alone, yeah? That's how alcoholism starts. When I go out, I'm going out because I want to have a good time, just like everyone else who wants to have a social drink. That's kind of the beauty of bars, actually. Best place for me to meet people when they're already looking to forget the night and they're too drunk to recognize me (usually both of those at the same time). The fights tend to counteract that whole idea a little bit when they happen; but hey, not every night has to turn out crazy. Like I said, it's not my goal to cause a big fuss when I go into an establishment. Its just nice to go into a place and just watch a show with some happy strangers, or sing some songs and throw around cards or whatever. It's a nice outlet for everything that builds up when one works in my particular profession. I'm aware that some folks like to enjoy their drinks alone, and that's fine and all. I wouldn't make an effort to start something with someone like that. The way I see it though, if you're making the trouble to go to a public place then the point of the whole endeavor is to have fun and meet some folks. Otherwise, what are you even there for??"
Loyalty/Family Bonds -
"My family was the only thing that shared my name ever. I never had a single possetion that I owned; never could rely on the presence of material belongin's. I had my family, though. I had my people, and we had out name, and that's the only damn thing what mattered. You don't cross family, even if sometimes you don't feel to pleased with them. Even 'f you feel like you're just dealin' with 'em, guess what? They're dealin' with you, too. 'N they don the decency to not fuck with you, because they trust you - gotta have trust goin' both ways to have stable relationships. ...What was my family like? Had a lot more structure 'n families I see out here, that's for sure. ...What defines a family? Ha ha! You'll feel it. ...No, blood don't mean shit. I said you'll feel it."
Happy Endings -
"The only thing that can make me cry nowadays is a good happy ending. I cry at weddings. I cry at birthdays. I cry at Christmas. Sometimes I cry when I see kids. Hell I'll cry at your bar mitzvah. There's just somethin' about the moment where everything comes together that just tears me up inside, y'know? These things were always few an' far between, and now that I get to see loads more of them I jus' can't stand it. It's just that good to know that sometimes things work out for the best. Sometimes things even work out for the best for me. Sometimes I deserve that, too."
» Dislikes: Targeted/Exploitative Crime and Systems-
"Apodrecem no inferno. ....Sounds harsh, but I'm serious. Sometimes it depends on the kind, an' who they're stealing from. I can make a few exceptions here an' there, but generally? {expletive} them and the dirty ground they walk on. Dirtiest form of bleeding the earnest dry. ...Man I really want to say all that and mean it from the bottom of my heart, but I can't judge all of 'em. Not every situation is the same; an' sometimes the law begs to be broke. ...Hell, I can't say my paws are fully squeaky. Doin' the right thing don't always mean doin' the right thing by the law... but that don't justify every pocket-picker with a bug up their ass and a mind that they own this place! When it comes right down to it, I dunno if it can justify me either. I just gotta keep puttin' one paw in front of the other believein' that it does, at least until proven guilty. Hey, has anyone ever told you you got a fantastic future in bein' a shrink?"
The Law-
"...Yeah, I guess it would make sense that I'm not a huge fan of the law, heh. I'm sayin' it cause it's important though. I certainly don't think that the law itself is unimportant, mind you. On the contrary, I think it's a necessary evil. Pokemon in big groups need some kinda gov'rnence to get along, right? Otherwise we wouldn't have no peace, ever! But the problem with the law, is eventually the law gets old. It worked for a while, and maybe it still works for some people, but eventually it stops workin' for others an' they get hurt. Lotta times, though, people won't change the law becuase it's the law. How's that right? And then you got the people who get into power and abuse the law, or the people that the law didn't account for when it was made. Long story short: we need the laws. But they also make us suffer. Eventually, they get old and broken and if someone don't fix them, it's up to someone (or a whole lot of someones) to make a big noise until somethin' gets done 'bout it. ...Trust me, I came from one o' the places the law forgot. I know what the worst of it looks like. I'm try'na give the benefit of the doubt now that I'm comin' into places where the law's s'pposed to be better, but... it's gonna be a hard tick to loose."
"Grump-Asses"-
"This is more a minor gripe than anything, but my pet peeve is people who can't take a joke, y'know? People who can't lighten up 'bout shit or even just have a nice string of interactions. I mean, just how in the world do antisocials get along day by day?? How do they cope with that naggin' feeling like your an ant jus' waitin' to be squished all on your lonesome? Every mon's gotta have someone around to spill their guts to when the world gets tough, else that shit will stack right up and turn you into a certified looney. I worry for antisocials more than anyone else, I think. ...Okay definitely not true, but I do at least make an effort to bother them. For their sake. Sure I think it's pointless, but I didn't get here but not tryin'! I'm jus' playin' the part of the person givin' them the nudge, they can decide whether or not to do anything with it."
Psychic Abilities -
"Now let me be clear about this one: I AM NOT SAYIN' I MIND PSYCHIC TYPES ANY MORE OR LESS THAN ANYONE ELSE. Type barely even occurs to me when I'm considerin' a pokemon's character... But honestly, don't summa those "out of body" abilities skeeve you out too? Mind-readin', fortune tellin', future seein', levatatin'... All of those thing can happen to you without your consent just cause some fella decided he wanted to do it. Eugh. I don't like the idea of any of anything being done to my body or mind without my say-so; I worked hard just to get all of it to this point! Not only that, but those kind of powers make it unfairly easy to scam your neighbor. I've seen what happens when it happens, and it is not good. I'm not sayin' I don't appreciate how helpful they can be or how much good they can do but, eh, not my cup of tea." "Man, that was a hoot! Are you sure ya don't need anythin' else? You want an' autograph to tack on at the end there? ...Well no, I don't know how you'd get an autograph into a newspaper. That's fair. When can I expect to be seein' this thing come out? I gotta send a copy to my folks; they'll die when they see this!!! -ouch. bad choice of words."
» Other: As Boa Sorte, she'll roll in dirt to muddy the color of her fur. She wears a bandana and a serape with her brimmed hat tipped forward to conceal her identity. She'll take off the serape and tip the hat back (or occasionally replace it with the bandana when she's just acting casual, depending on the situation. She treats the Boa Sorte persona as more of a brand than a second identity; she doesn't consider Telma and Boa as different personalities (evidenced by the fact that she acts pretty much the same no matter what name she's being called. She does get a little more hyped up and excited when she's working however, and she plays up her eccentricity a bit more when she's out in her vaquero attire so it's harder to distinguish her in a crowd when she's out in public in vigilante fashion. Also, due to the stigmas in her upbringing, I imagine she's grown very opposed to both the forms of Lycanroc that she's come to know. For this reason I imagine she feels a lot of stress about her eventual evolution, since she both doesn't want to choose either but also feels she needs to because she wants to be able to stay caught up with the criminals she chases in terms of strength. I believe this, is what contributes to/triggers her possible evolution into dusk form. Disclaimer- First Person is out of form for the site and was used in an artistic manner only to depict the character more clearly. This will not carry over into roleplay form as it infringes on the rules and would be incohesive and confusing. FINAL NOTE FOR ADMINS: Due to nearing the word limit, I have separated the history into it's own post.

- TIMELINE:
- WARNING: This timeline spoils the plot of Telma's backstory, which I plan on posting to the library at a later date. Refrain from opening unless you are checking the bio or don't mind reading Telma's story spoiled.:
- Last chance'd. I saved you, misclickers:
- One more for the people with a twitch:
( The following is a timeline chroncling the major events in Telma's life. Numbers do not signify specific years, they are merely meant to order the events chronologically. Events in the same cell happened in very near proximity to if not at the same time. The way these events changed her are listed in the thrid column, unless they did not change her meaningfully. Events in - happened before Telma's birth.) - | - | The Family Caste | A short description of how Telma's family's caste sytem works: Castes are based on ages in year. Those born in the same year are seen as equals with the same capabilities and allowed to interact with each other however they please. They can share any depth of information between each other and they are generally encouraged to assist each other. Older means higher caste. Siblings in higher castes are seen as responsible for all the ones below, even acting as a sort of second guardian as they grow. They are supposed to keep the morale and spirits up of the youngers, and as such they are generally barred from sharing more information about themselves and about problems within the family than necessary. They also typically enjoy more freedoms in the form of independence and hierarchical power over younger siblings. Younger siblings mean lower castes. They are generally told less about family matters, and are expected to respect their elder siblings. They tend to be folowers of the oldest siblings while they in turn prepare to take on responsibilities of their own. They are also typically encouraged to spend more time among themselves than among their older siblings in order to afford said older siblings the privacy to talk freely without them around. | Sabela Fonseca and Atilio Monteiro meet as children. | - | Sabela Fonseca begins to recieve pressure from her family concerning family debt. | - | Sabela Fonseca and Atilio Monteiro marry. | - | Sabela Monteiro ejected from the Fonseca Family. | - | Cintia Fonseca and Roque Barros marry. | - | Valentim Barros born. | Valentim was a comfort to Telma in that, throughout her life, he acted as an extra shoulder for her burdens. She trusted him to do the things she couldn't (even when he couldn't) because he was a "caste" above her, and therefore had more experience. Though she was the eldest in her own family, she still had Valentim to rely on. | 1 | 1 | Telma Monteiro born. | Telma feels pretty good about being born. | Uxia Monteiro born. | Uxia was the sibling Telma trusted most, though Telma was also responsible for her by the traditions of of her family's casting. She and Uxia did their best to avoid this, though on some fundamental level they were either unable or unwilling to let this go entirely- perhaps due to it being such an important part of their core identities. Even so, Uxia selflessly supported Telma, and Telma was always grateful for the support in turn. There were not many things Telma would do without Uxia. | Ulisses Monteiro saves Sabela during a mine shaft cave-in. | Ulisses was always a point of... contention in Telma's family, though less so than her less likable uncle Claudio. This moment was indicative of the best of times, when Telma was still on good terms with her more enigmatic uncle. This represented the time before Telma realized what her Uncle was capable of doing against the family. She still felt cautiously bonded to him despite the cautionary rumors she heard floating around the mines concerning him. This was the highest point in their relationship - it would only go downhill from here. | Rui Monteiro born. | The addition of Rui to the family was exciting for a plethora of reasons: he was the first buneary sibling that Telma and Uxia had, he was the first younger sibling that Telma and Uxia shared, and he as he grew up he showed himself to be another great personality within the family. He was always excited to be with his two older sisters, and this experienced turned himself and Uxia into Telma's "inner circle" of sorts. He and Uxia would be the ones to faces all the same challenges that Telma did, and they would both understand Telma's various frustrations. These three formed a strong backbone that all the other siblings could use as a foundation, while also enabling Telma in her later decisions. At this moment, though, they were just at the peak of happiness. | Claudio Fonseca moves in with Telma's family. | Telma's Uncle Claudio is the beginning of a downturn in Telma's life, though he is comparatively less damaging than Ulisses in the long run. Claudio is a day-by-day torment: he's rude to Telma's family, he harasses Rui while no one can be around to help him and he does all this while the family hosts him out of the kindness of their hearts. Somewhat. Claudio was also the younger sibling of Sabela, so his stay with her family was also invoked in part from her moral obligations to him as an older sibling. Claudio's presence directly challenges the otherwise unquestioned respect that Telma had developed for her family's customs thus far- shaping herself, Uxia, and eventually Rui into being more cynical towards the caste practices while they practiced them. This cynicism would leave them open to taking more drastic measures against threats to the family in the future. Claudio also served to act as a sort of distraction from Ulisses as things would begin to decline, generally being seen as the greater of two evils between the two as he was louder than Ulisses and contributed far less. | 2 | 2 | Veins of a "Mysterious Stone" struck in the mines. | Stones from the mines were considered valuable given that anything more than slag was uncommonly produced. The first stone uncovered sent a huge stir throughout the community, but it wasn't until the mine owners learned of their true potential that they suddenly became prized above all else, even becoming the sole targets of some mining operations. Being half Lopunny on one side and half Blaziken on the other, both Telma's family and her cousin's family were also found to be compatible with the stones, leading to mixed reactions among family members. The mysterious stone would also be a driving factor in Ulisses' eventual betrayal of the family. Telma's opinions of the mining operations and the ores they produced would be heavily influenced by her ensuing experiences with mega stones, overall trending negative. It was easy for her to track the corruption in the mines and in her family through this particular influence. | Atilio Monteiro begins participating in cage fights for greater profits. | The discovery of mysterious stone in the mines led to Atilio binding to a mega stone, drastically increasing his offensive potential. After this had happened, he would occasionally by pokemon from the highly corrupting world of cage fighting- all or nothing fights that participants would bet money on, with a considerable sum of the earnings going to the fight participants if they survived each other. Atilio realized the raw cash from these fights would be worth far more than the "credits" they earned by working, so both of them quickly and wholeheartedly jumped into fighting. This would lead a to a great portion of Telma's family to consider if not begin fighting, leaving them even more vulnerable to Ulisses in the future. | Ulisses Monteiro learns of cage fighting and offers his assistance. | Ulisses picked up on the fact that some members of his family could suddenly afford a lot of off days (which literally had to be purchased or added to debt) very quickly, leading to him also learning of the world of cage fighting. He used his future sight abilities to both guide his family members in their fights, as well as who to bet on in other fights and how much. His almost intuitive embrace of the slimiest practices in the fighting profession desensitized his morals, warping his already skewed perception of reality by rewarding his immoral behavior against his family. This would be the beginning of his decent into corruption, suddenly seeing the endeavor as even more valuable than his family's support. He would begin to prey on Atilio's gambling addiction, Rui's low self-esteem, Telma's frustration with her family's living situation- anything he discovered, he began weaponizing as discreetly as possible. This point in Ulisses' development would mark the end of Telma's generally good faith in him in hers. | Eufemia Monteiro born. | Eufemia was a challenge to Telma. Being that she was born after all of the events that had formed Telma, Uxia, and Rui, she grew up with her idealistic perception of the family castes unchallenged. She would not realize that the hardships the family faced were separate problems of their own until much later, instead living with the notion that the systems that were in place were fine: she and the others just weren't following them accurately enough for them to work. This was also largely due to Eufemia being very close to her traditional-oriented mother coupled with Claudio's toxic influence. She would often question or openly challenge Telma's comparatively radical behavior whenever she had the chance to. These experiences also shaped how Telma learned to manage the power that came with her age. With Ulisses growing as a threat, she felt morally obligated to value her siblings over her influence on them, devaluing her perception of authority and forcing her to try and find the most responsible ways of using it in order to be an example for her growing gaggle of younger siblings. | Carme Barros born. | Born the same year as Eufemia, but to far more liberal parents. Carme was the final major support source that Telma would receive from within the family for quite a while. She and Valentim were both raised very liberally due to their father being generally unaffiliated with the family caste system, however (unlike Valentim) Carme was not born in a time where the family was at peace and she could properly learn to appreciate and respect the system for what it was. Carme was always put off by the castes and would often break the rules of respect in order to talk to Rui, Telma, and Uxia- earning her ire from her same age sibling Eufemia and Claudio. She would be even more active than Telma in some regards in the future, whole-heartedly supporting the younger generations fights against their oppressors. Watching Carme's struggle also opened Telma further to accepting/tolerating ideas outside her families traditions, so to accommodate family members like Carme. | 3 | 3 | Roque and Cintia Barros begin participating in cage fights for greater profits. | Being the newest out of Telma's relatives to the Grima mines meant Roque was the most open to alternate methods of breaking the family's debt. The desire for his son, nieces and nephews to grow up outside of a culture where they would have nothing for the foreseeable future also made him highly desperate for means of income outside of the "credit" money that working in the mines provided. Seeing Atilio taking charge with the mysterious stone led Roque to seeking out mega evolution as well, and he too joined the fighting league. Cintia would not allow Roque to fight on his own, and thus the two began fighting as a pair. Telma looked up to their work ethic and loyalty more than most things in the world. | Rui Monteiro begins training for and participating in cage fights. | As the fight began to prove very lucrative as a means of reducing debt, Ulisses and Claudio both began encouraging the younger generation to participate in fights. In the interest of pursuing mega evolution as a more powerful means of fighting, the uncles breached tradition somewhat and skipped over placing such an important responsibility on Telma and Uxia, opting instead to focus only on Valentim and Rui based on their capable species. At this point, neither had evolved to the stage where they could mega evolve, so their training began viciously and brutally in order to catch them up. This successfully got Valentim to his second stage of evolution, but seemingly had completely no effect on Rui. In fact, it effectively did the opposite: given that his evolution relied on positive emotions and relationships, the awful training he received actually held him back. Ulisses realized this, and unlike Claudio treated the situation rationally: he set out to find an item that would facilitate Rui's evolution. The uncle's breach in conduct here was another clear sign to Telma that things were amiss with Ulisses. | Ulisses Monteiro marries Batari Fardel. | During his search for the item to evolve Rui, Ulisses was introduced to Batari Fardel- a shrewd buisness woman from Rainfront. Both saw each other as a means to their own ends: Ulisses was a possible source of a buisness to Batari, while Batari was yet another method of earning his freedom and then a fortune to Ulisses. Batari rejected Ulisses at this point, however, as he had no proof of concept for a buisness she might see fit to join- however, she coyly agreed to continue correspondence with him, sending him things over time that purposefully aimed to aggravate him towards enacting a coup against his family. These interactions would further fuel Ulisses's delusions and drive him even further from his family, seeing them as offering him nothing anymore. | Ulisses Monteiro pools the current family earnings to end his own debt, purchases enough land to open a private mine for the family. | This was the moment when Ulisses finally broke down and turned from the family entirely. He drew up intentionally vague contracts and exploited the trust his family members- Atilio especially- put in him so far, making empty promises that if the families fund's were pooled, they could acquire means of producing their own materials, which could be sold for a profit rather than turned over to the overseers of the work camps. The latter contributions would have naturally been worth more as they produced money rather than raw materials, and it was a plan that was nigh impossible to argue with. Ulisses then used this money to buy the land, pay off his own debt, and essentially become one of the debt collectors himself. The family would never see their debt decrease substantilly from this action. Ulisses would come to do this on his own volition: though Batari goaded him indirectly through letters, no one ever gave him a direct reason to do this. This came off as the ultimate malicious act to Telma, who had been watching her father and her family selflessly support Ulisses for years now. | 4 | 4 | Rute Monteiro born. | Uxia was the sibling Telma trusted most, though | Telma's Family begin harboring Kitaro and her Uncle. | Uxia was the sibling Telma trusted most, though | Ulisses Monteiro fails to deliver the materials for better housing conditions. | Uxia was the sibling Telma trusted most, though | Claudio Fonseca abandons Telma's family.
