Why are we Even Here.

Mercury the Fennekin dragged her friend Kye around a smoky haze of apparent toxins, following the directions that a shady Nidorino had given them earlier. She looked around at everything around them, though the misty fumes made it hard to see everything clearly. Regardless, Mercury bounced around energetically.

All the mist was AMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZZZIIINNNGGG, and it was blowingerestering Mercury's tiny, broken mind.

"Wow Kye, look at all the mist around here!!!" Mercury exclaimed, bringing him closer and closer to the Gulch. It had taken them most of the morning to get here, and it was now around noon for them. "It's amazing, isn't it?! Have you ever seen anything like it?!?!" the odd Fennekin gushed. She was extremely happy, to be there, especially being there with her new, besterest best friend.

(Mercury - 3 Energy)

Velikye slowly approached the water, becoming sort of hypnotized by how amazing and welcoming it looked, before being suddenly knocked away. This was followed by Mercury's pained screams, which snapped the eevee out of his delusional state. He directed his gaze to the fenniken who was being burned so badly and for a moment, hesitated, taking a step back in fear. The water was suddenly purple and menacing.... and it looked like it was burning Mercury! He was afraid of touching it.... but his friend was in trouble!

He pushed past the fear and forced himself to go forward, stopping near the "water" and making sure not to touch it. He didn't know if it was due to the fire typing that it was hurting Mercury or if perhaps it just burned. Maybe it was acid! He didn't know if there was a such thing as purple acid, but he certainly didn't know of any such thing as purple water. He reached out a paw in the hopes of helping Mercury. "Take my paw!" He didn't care how the fenniken grabbed it, with paws or by biting onto him, all that mattered was getting her out.

Over her screaming, Mercury could hear her friend Kye calling out to her. She stopped flailing about in the sludge water long enough to look for him. She saw his paw and and reached out for it weakly, missing a few times before finally latching on to him and letting her body be dragged out of the water. She coughed a little bit, her wet fur still sizzling and steaming from the water exposure. She knew that she had to get it off of her, so she dragged herself to her feet and waddled away from Kye so that she could safely shake herself off without getting any of the toxic sludge devil water on Kye. She shook it off as best as she possibly could before limping back over to Kye, smiling weakly. "Thanks, Kye!" she grinned, "I was in a real pinch there." She tried to tell herself she was okay, but the exposure to the water was making her feel worse than usual.

Mercury's Status - Poisoned

Velikye did his best to pull his friend out of the "water" with his weak eevee body, at the very least managing, even if slower than he would have liked. He then watched as she shook herself in an attempt to get the sludge water off of her, feeling horrible for having caused it. He had been stupid enough to fall for a trick his mind had played on him and Mercury got hurt having to save him. When Mercury started implying he'd been the one to save HER, he just couldn't handle the guilt any more and began tearing up.

"I-it was my fault! You had to save me because I was being an idiot.... I'm so sorry!!", he whined, wanting to hug his friend to show his appreciation, but knowing he would probably be poisoned too if he did and Mercury probably wouldn't like if he made her selfless act all for nothing.

Mercury looked over at Kye with a look of surprise and maybe just a touch of confusion on her face. Was was he suddenly so sad all of a sudden? She padded over to him, and with one paw (the paw on the side of her body that had miraculously survived the incident without getting drenched in death goo, flawless victory) she reached up and patted his head, scruffling his fur slightly. "I don't know why you're upset, Kye; but nobody did anything wrong! It was the evil devil water; it possessed your mind and made you try to drink it; but we're too smart for that!! So don't worry; you did a good job of pulling me out of the water and now all that matters is that we keep on going!" Mercury put aside the funny feeling she was getting in her stomach and grinned a genuine Mercury grin at Kye, letting him know that (at least currently) she was A-OK. She with drew her paw and began to bound towards the bridge, doubling back to retrieve Kye. "C'mon!!! We gotta look for more of the pointy symbols!!! There have to be some around here, somewhere; maybe on the other side of the bridge maybe?!?"

Velikye sighed and smiled slightly at Mercury's kind words. It was amazing how this fenniken could see no bad in anyone, yet was calling an inanimate liquid evil. At least she didn't seem mad at him though, even if it was his fault in the first place. "Alright.... I'm gonna make it up to you, I'm gonna save you next time.", he vowed as he followed Mercury along.
How would he keep that promise, though? This meant he would probably have to do something brave. Of course, it also meant Mercury would have to get in trouble and he was perfectly fine with his friend just NEVER getting into trouble too.

"Ooh, is that a game where it's like cops and robbers.... only there's only good guys who keep saving each other until nothing really happens because things stop happening to them so they get really bored and don't know what to do?" Mercury asked as she walked up the bridge, coated in matted devil water fur on one side of her body. She paused around the middle of the bridge in a strange flash of contemplation, as if the words she had spoken had struck a chord somewhere deep within her apparently non-functional mind...

"...Wow. That's be a boring game, huh? A really, really, boring, suck game. Just sitting around doing nothing." Mercury was silent for another short moment. "...I'm sure glad you're around, Kye! I don't have to sit around and do nothing when you're here! It's like a non-stop cool adventure that never stops!" she turned her head and grinned back at him before dashing the rest of the way across the bridge. There, she spotted a small crevasse in the wall adjacent to the bridge they had just been crossing. There was also a more direct path stretching around the wall, but it cut through a trench with some especially thick foggy fog. "Which one do you want to go through?" Merc asked Kye looking back at him and awaiting a response.

Velikye sighed as his vow seemed to be taken as yet another game.  At least it meant something to him, though, even if Mercury didn't know what he meant.  He would protect this fenniken, who seemed to have no family or friends, nor any sense of danger to protect her self with.  He wasn't sure how he was supposed to protect someone else when he couldn't even protect himself, but.... he'd figure it out.  He just had to.

When Mercury questioned which path for them to take, Kye looked between the two and chose the one he felt was safer.  "This one.", he said as he pointed to the crevasse with a paw.  It was dark and scary looking, sure, but that was probably all it was.  Meanwhile the other path clearly had heavier toxicity in the air.
He just wanted to make sure to choose the safest path, for both of them.  Especially since Mercury probably didn't know the definition of "safe."  He started off towards the crevasse, wanting to go in first and make sure that if something bad happened, it would happen to HIM first.  Sure, it was terrifying, but he'd literally just got done promising to protect Mercury.

Mercury looked at the crevasse and grinned, her tail wagging wildly. "Yeah, I agree!! It looks super adventurey, I bet there could be cool things inside it! And rocks!!!" she yipped joyfully. She pranced over to the crevasse in the wall before doubling over as she was hit with a wave of nausea. She choked a bit on her own dry heaves before the feeling faded away, leaving her panting with a nasty taste in her mouth. "Uggggh, gross," she coughed, "that didn't feel so good." It didn't stop her, however from crawling into the dark crevasse and feeling her way forward in the cave before suddenly wishing, "Grr, dangit, I wish this cave didn't have to be so dang dark!!"

As soon as Mercury said this, a dormant power within her stirred, emanating throughout the cave. It couldn't be seen, only felt. It was strongest around Mercury, though as per usual she was totally oblivious to it. She simply stood and waited for Kye in the crowded corners, none the wiser.

Velikye made sure to bolt ahead of Mercury, not wanting to let her go in first and end up getting hurt any worse.  He didn't want it to be taken as a challenge for race or something, but at least if Mercury decided she wanted to race, he could TRY to stay ahead.  The fenniken complained about how the cavern was so dark, "wishing" it was lighter.  Then the eevee felt a strange.... energy.  It was familiar.  Why?  Because he knew the exact move it was coming from!  Literally, this was the feeling of Wish and he also had this move!

"Is.... that Wish?", he questioned, before deciding to show what he meant by making a wish of his own.  He decided to silently wish for rejuvenation, increasing the wishful aura emanating throughout the cave as he waited.

Mercury looked at Kye with slight confusion and curiosity at his words. She had heard of "wishes" and "wishing" before, but he was talking about a singular wish. What kind of wish was it? Was it a special wish? Mercury felt very excited; she wanted to find out more about the wish!!! Maybe it was even somewhere in this very Gulch!!! "What wish, Kye? Where's the wish?!?! What wish are we looking for?! Is it an item or somet- *hack hack hack* -thing?!?" she exclaimed, though she she began to dry-heave mid-sentence. The power from before began to flow into her, taking her nausea away temporarily and also causing the embers in her ear and tail fluff to glow brighter, giving Merc a warm, soft glow that lit up the rocky crevasse surrounding them. She looked around joyfully and exclaimed, "Look, Kye!! My wish came true!!!"

Upon seeing that Mercury didn't even know what Wish was, Velikye decided to just go with it and wait until their wishes came true.  However, when Mercury's Wish activated, she seemed completely oblivious, not understanding at all that she had caused it.  The eevee simply rolled his eyes before replying, "Yep, it definitely did."  He supposed there was no harm in letting the fenniken believe that her wish just magically came true.
As he began moving once more, his own Wish came true and doubled the glow, making him feel.... a bit less exhausted and poisoned.  Just a bit.  "We should get going before the light goes away, if we can.", he said.

The refreshment of her Wish was short-lived, unfortunately, as all of a sudden, Mercury found that her hearing was getting fuzzy and that her vision was getting blurry. There was poison corsing through the tiny pokemon's entire system now, and it wasn't showing any sign of clearing up. The little Fox began to teeter around on the tips of her paws, failing to keep her head upright as it bobbed all around in the air. "Ugh, I don't... I dun't fweel.... my head......" the small fox sputtered, "......Kye I'mf scared......."

Mercury quickly passed out, falling hard onto the cold rocky floor. Her eyes shut tight and her body lay limp. As she made impact with the ground, a lone Reviver Seed was shaken from the folds of her scarf and slid out onto the ground, landing on a nearby fold of golden cloth.

"Maybe you should lay d-", Velikye started, hoping to coax his energetic friend into resting. However, THIS was not the kind of resting he'd had in mind. It seemed Mercury had passed out, which was very bad! They hadn't done anything really.... energy-requiring. It was the poison, it had to be! It was his fault for letting Mercury come here instead of stopping her.... and for having to be saved from that toxic water! "Mercury!", he exclaimed in the hopes she would get up and say it was just a joke.

The eevee began to panic, he couldn't carry the fenniken out of here in a healthy state, let alone in this state. How could he save her? In fact, how could he even save himself!? Mercury was stronger than him and had already passed out, granted she'd fallen into the accurately named "evil water." He would likely be suffering the same fate soon enough. Then no one would be able to save either of them....

Just when the eevee was starting to lose hope and have a mental breakdown, he noticed the seed. A Reviver Seed! He quickly scooped the seed up in his paw and put it in front of Mercury's mouth. "H-here, eat this!", he practically begged, hoping she was awake enough to eat the seed, or at least would sleep-eat it.
Since it was Mercury, he wasn't doubting the possibility of the latter.

As Kye held the seed in front of Mercury's mouth, the small Fox's head began to tip forward due to gravity and plopped down onto the seed. It slid off of Kye's paw and dropped into the Fennekin's mouth, but the Fennekin was passed out and therefore a bit of a chewing failure. There was still the saliva in Mercury's mouth, however; and the enzymes within it began to break up the seed's outer layer into a more absorbable form. The nutrients in the seed got absorbed by the skin on the lining of her cheek, and a few minutes afterwards the Fennekin began to stir.

When Mercury first woke up from unconsciousness, she still felt incredibly sick. Her eyes fluttered and she began to cough, unable to move much else in her current state. She felt a strange lump in her cheek; some foreign obstruction that her mouth water was now pooling around. She couldn't taste anything or ever feel anything besides vague shapes with her numb tongue, but she was able to swallow lightly. The lump remained, but within seconds of swallowing Mercury found herself feeling much better. Her mind began to wake up and her limbs began to twitch as they woke themselves back up.

Once she had partially regained her senses, Mercury could finally tell that the item in her mouth was a seed by the taste of said item. She managed to push the seed into her mouth and chew it up, letting a strange yet oddly healing flavor wash over her tongue. She ground the seed into a pulp with her teeth as best she could (biting her cheek once or twice in the process) before haphazardly swallowing it with an audible *gulp*. Once in her system, the seed began to work it's magic. It cleared away completely the toxic chemicals in her system, making her body completely healthy. It both fueled her and activated her adrenaline output; waking her up completely in a very short amount of time. The Fennekin blinked, and then attempted rolling onto her paws.

"....Hey, my body is happy again!!" The small Fennekin cried joyfully, looking all around in her renewed state of consciousness. "Thanks Kye, thanks Kye!!! I don't know what you did, but I feel great now!! Even better than I did before! Which was pretty great!!!" the small fox exclaimed happily. With all the renewed energy, the embers in Mercury's fur were burning brightly. She began to glow again with the same warm, orangey glow of fire, illuminating the cave once more.

How did you manage to make four paragraphs out of eating a seed I don't even

Velikye jumped back slightly in surprise as the world seemed to will the seed into the fenniken's mouth. He waited and began to worry after not having any signs of life from the fenniken for a while, starting to panic again. Just when his eyes started to tear up, his unconscious friend began to move. She was alive, at least. His tail began to wag when he finally saw this, as he felt reassured that everything was going to be okay.

Finally, Mercury showed her self to be clearly awake and began speaking. The little eevee couldn't have been happier at this. Of course, he normally wouldn't have wanted someone so nice to just die from poison while he watched, but he was unusually happy. Probably because he didn't have any other friends.... What would he do if Mercury went away? He would have no one again, he couldn't go back to that!

Kye was so happy and relieved to see the fenniken back to her alive, goofy self, that he reached out with his front paws and gave her a hug. He was careful not to knock the likely disoriented fenniken off balance or hug too tightly, though. He didn't want to cause her to get hurt even more. "Lets get out of here, okay?", he requested, wanting to leave this place before Mercury could get hurt again.
Maybe she felt fine for now, but the smog would surely get back in her system. He'd completely forgotten about the fact that he himself was still in danger as well, though.
