The Second Expedition Attempt

Missions:

Jet glanced down at the papers in his paws that he had taken from the Grassveil Guild's bulletin boards. He had been out here on a mission before from the guild but it had ended in a failure. However, this was one Buizel who was determined not to let this one defeat get the better of him. This time, however, Jet had decided to be a little bit more bold. His new mission as to rescue an Egg that had been stolen from a Beautifly. This one was an Outlaw mission, and it was one that he knew that he needed to start doing to try to toughen himself up. Perhaps, he figured, a more drastic situation could spark the strength he needed, rather than sticking with a safer escort mission. His other mission was all-too-familiar, however. It was to rescue a Meowth's "beloved." A side note had been placed on the latter mission's note saying that this "beloved" was actually a bag of money that needed to be returned. He recognized this mission as the very same one that he had failed previously, and this was his chance to try again.

The awkwardness of the second mission aside, Jet knew that these would probably be the perfect missions to take for now. Not only was he slightly familiar with the contents of the Pecha Forest, due to a previous excursion into these woods once before, but it was a very straight-forward mission with very little that would interfere with him, as far as he was aware. Sure, the layout of the woods was sure to change due to its nature as a Mystery Dungeon, but that didn't concern him. He was always good at mapping terrain in his head anyway.

The only thing that worried him was this gang of Pokémon that had supposedly taken the Meowth's bag. Hopefully, he would not have to deal with them directly...but was he actually that lucky...?

In any case, he made his way between the trees, finally entering the Pecha Forest, and started hunting for his mission's objectives. He was slightly nervous to be heading off on a mission by himself...but he wanted to get stronger for when Team Mizuchi took on their first mission together as a full team.

Jet nodded as he watched the Hoothoot get struck by his Sonicboom. However, he had not anticipated that the owl Pokémon might be able to send his own attack right back at him. Thankfully, however, he had seen a counterattack to his Sonicboom before and knew what to do immediately. Instead of running away from the arc of energy that was the Sonicboom, he dashed toward it. When he approached the incoming attack, he contracted his limbs slightly and then used them to leap into the air, jumping right over the top of the attack. As he came down, water began forming around his tail. If they were going to use his attacks against him, he supposed it would be better to use a move that he could resist Type-wise. His paws touched the ground once more and he rushed, forward after having hopefully closed the distance a considerable amount.

Normally, such an aggressive reaction would not be part of his battle style. But he had seen its effectiveness first-hand and had gotten thoroughly pounded as a result. This time, he was going to be the one delivering the attack. With that thought, he spun himself around in the air and attempted to slam his tail into his target's body, hoping to strike with his Aqua Tail attack.

Meanwhile, the Hoothoot seemed frozen in place as Zephyr rushed him again, seeming to somehow manage to power through his Hypnosis. However, the Nidoran eventually ended up falling to the ground as expected. He took a moment of personal celebration as the Nidoran collapsed before it prepared for its next attack. For now, it wanted to try to avoid going down in one shot like his partner had, so he decided to try to weaken the Nidoran while he was still down. He let out a loud sound from his beak, emitting a Growl that would hopefully weaken the Nidoran upon his eventual wake.

Wild Pokémon!

Name: Hoothoot

The nidoran shivered in his slumber, suddenly being plagued with a nightmare as the growl rattled his brain and triggered the appearance of the elderly Tyrantrum that had banished him. His dream consisted of being chased once more, being toyed with as the king could have easily snapped him up and swallowed him whole. The nidoran squeaked in fear, and twitched in his sleep, which probably would have been cuter if he was not sleeping the middle of a rather dangerous fight.

The hoothoot gave a startled cry as it was struck. It glared at the buizel, and flapped its wings once more as they glowed yet again. The feathers from the wings glowed and the water from the buizel's tail had suddenly gathered around the tail feathers of the hoothoot. Two long and thin tails appeared behind it, similar to the buizels, as the flying typed rushed to return the attack once more.

The Hoothoot observed the Nidoran's reaction to the success of his Growl attack and hooted happily to himself. It was clear that he now had the poor Nidoran on the ropes. All he had to do now was beat on him while he was still asleep and this would be over in no time, and the example would be made of anybody who dared to disturb their tree again. With that, his mind was made up and he steeled himself, throwing his entire body forward in a reckless Tackle attack, aiming to strike the downed Nidoran as hard as he could.

Jet wasn't sure if the Hoothoot would use Mirror Move again when the move was resisted, but it sure enough came at him again. Having been prepared for the attack, he could have managed to evade it once more. But something made him pause. He heard a small squeak. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Zephyr, collapsed in the dirt and sound asleep with his remaining Hoothoot staring him down, preparing something. "Z-Zeph-!" he began, but he was interrupted by his Hoothoot opponent slamming the Aqua Tail into his body and throwing him to the side. Thankfully, he resisted the type of move, so the damage was reduced. But still, it was a strong move and it still caused some decent damage.

Well, since he was already getting knocked away, perhaps he could use this to his advantage. He quickly planned his next course of actions, knowing full well what would happen. All he knew was that Zephyr needed his help...and he needed to help him at all costs. As he fell sideways, he used the momentum to stumble over to the side and stand between the collapsed Zephyr and the now-charging Hoothoot. He crossed his paws in front of him in anticipation for the attack, and was slammed into by the Hoothoot's Tackle. He cried out as he was thrown back from the force of the blow and landed hard beside Zephyr on his back.

"Z-Zephyr, y-you need to wake up!" he called desperately, lifting a paw to try to shake him awake. "I-I can't do this by myself...!"

The nidoran collapsed to the ground, still in his slumber and incapable of waking up. Zephyr was not usually one to sleep this heavily, but the hypnosis had placed him into a deep slumber. Luckily, the force of the Tackle Attack shook him from his deep slumber and into a lighter one. It almost woke him up, but not quite. What did wake him up, was the cry for help from the buizel. The nidoran's eye opened groggily as he forced himself out of sleep, realizing that he had been asleep in the first place. The nidoran shook his head, attempting to shake off the sleep. He turned to glare at the HootHoot that had put him to sleep, before charging towards it in a Head Smash once more.

The Hoothoot seemed rather pleased with itself as the Nidoran and Buizel both collapsed to the ground. It seemed like this battle was completely in the bag. Their foes were completely worn out, or at least that's how it seemed, and they were still rather fine, having taken very few to no hits. And so, the lead Hoothoot decided to take this fight into its conclusive stage. He hopped backward for a few moments, preparing to lunge forward with another Tackle attack. But before he could launch his move, the Nidoran began to rise and shake his head. The Nidoran was up and awake once more! Well, he was just going to have to put him down for good! As such, he lunged forward and attempted to slam his body into the Nidoran's regardless. Unfortuantely, he had no idea that the Nidoran had planned to use that Head Smash yet again.

The two attacks collided and the Hoothoot let out a loud hoot of pain as it was completely overpowered and thrown backward, eventually slamming up against the tree and collapsing on the grass at its trunk. He struggled for a moment, attempting to push himself back up again. But in the end, the super effective attack was just too much for him and he collapsed again, unconscious.

Jet, meanwhile, turned to face the final remaining Hoothoot. This one was a fight he had to finish. And so, he rushed forward, once more knowing that his best bet would be to utilize the move that he resisted, just in case a Mirror Move was used again, despite its lack of effectiveness. He jumped into the air and spun his body around as the familiar water began to surround his tail in a vortex. He swung his tail down and attempted to slam it into the side of the Hoothoot's body using his Aqua Tail.

The hoothoot had watched its ally be sent flying, and had frozen up in fear, unable to Avoid the attack. The tail slammed into it and sent iT flying as if it had been a baseball and Jet's tail was the bat. The hoothoot was sent flying over some undergrowth, where it landed harshly and did not get up.

Zephyr failed to feel the pain of his own attack as the adrenaline from his victory trumped it. He laughed, gloating a bit at his victory, before looking  to see that Jet had just finished off the final hoothoot.
"Wasn't too hard now was it?" He laughed.

Jet watched the Hoothoot freeze up and almost felt bad that he was striking a foe who wasn't paying any attention to him at all. However, the fact that they had picked the fight in the first place helped him get over that feeling rather quickly. When his Aqua Tail had been a complete success, he then couldn't help but feel rather...satisfied. He observed the Hoothoot's flight and watched him slam into the ground and fail to get back up again. This battle was over...and Jet actually felt himself smile at the sight. He had...actually done it! W-well...Zephyr had managed to defeat two of their foes, but still. Just beating one of them on his own was enough to make Jet feel better about himself.

The Buizel looked over at Zephyr as he celebrated his victory and felt the need to join him. He laughed for a second as well. "N-no, I suppose it-" he started, but then he suddenly felt something hard strike his head. "Ow...!" he exclaimed in surprise. A moment later, something struck the ground at his feet. He rubbed his head and looked down to see what had hit him. From the tree above him, a Pecha Berry and a branch fell thanks to the impact the second Hoothoot had made against it. He picked up both the berry and the Stick and stored them away for later, in case they needed it.

"H-heh...anyway...maybe we should get a move on again," he suggested. "Y-you know, use the momentum from this victory to accomplish our missions? If, uh...if you're okay with that, th-then feel free to lead the way..."

"Yes! Let's Gooo..." He spoke, beginning with enthusiasm before it changed to exhaustion towards the middle of the sentence. He wavered before falling over, the adrenaline wearing off and his body beginning to feel the burn of his wounds once more. He began to grow a bit light headed, as he seemed to lose the ability to think straight. He forced himself up after several failed attempts, the headstrong little poisonous rabbit was ready to push forward, though the real question was if his body was capable of doing so.

"Where do we goooo?" he asked, not remembering where they had come from or where they were heading. What were they here for again? Ah well, didn't matter, he was getting stronger, that was the entire point of anything at this point.

Jet's eyes widened as he watched the Nidoran collapse almost immediately after sounding so enthusiastic only a moment ago. "A-ah...!" Jet exclaimed, quickly rushing to his temporary companion's side and kneeled down beside him. He moved to try to help the Nidoran get back to his feet again, but he paused, realizing that Zephyr was probably the type to refuse his help anyway, even if he offered it to him. So instead, he decided to wait until the Nidoran would give up on his own before assisting him. But as it turned out, his help was not completely needed. Eventually, the Poison-type Pokémon managed to somehow hoist himself back to his feet.

Jet had to admit, he was very impressed by this Nidoran's tenacity. Perhaps he was somebody to look up to after all. "E-erm..." he murmured thoughtfully. "I think that we are after a Sableye gang and a Tranquill. And, uh...we still have no idea where in this forest they could possibly be. S-so...I guess the answer to your question would be...anywhere we haven't already been. S-so-"

"Okay, you two have become so boring," a voice from above the two of them said, interrupting Jet's words. This caused the Buizel to look upward and spot a predominantly black and gray bird Pokémon perched up on a limb of a large tree not too far from where they stood. Beside it, resting up against the tree's bark, was a large egg. "Blah, blah, blah. All you ever do is wander around and talk. I was hoping you'd be more confused on why you couldn't find me."

There was very little room for mistake here. Judging by those words and by the egg resting beside it, this Tranquill had to be their target. Or at the very least, the probability was very high.

The nidoran looked up to the source of the voice. He blinked, trying to put together what was going on, but decided to throw reason out the window for now. This pokemon looked like it was challenging them, so he was going to fight. The nidoran huffed, focusing his mind on combat as a red energy began to cloak around him, using Focus Energy to increase his chance of landing a critical hit on the flying type. His game plan? Head Smash. Over and over again. He was just going to smash his head into this thing until it fell over, even if he had to do it while unconscious!

The Tranquill's attention was drawn to the Nidoran easily enough. The Nidoran's body began to emanate with some kind of aura, indicating that he was clearly ready to put an end to this fight nice and quickly. Well...that was not going to happen as long as he was their foe. However,  he did not quite feel ready to leave his high perch. He instead decided to meet the Nidoran's glare. His glare, however, hid another purpose behind it. He used his Leer down toward Zephyr, which would make him easier to take out faster. And judging by his condition after fighting those Hoothoot, perhaps it would not take more than a single blow. But he was not going to bet on that.

Jet saw the Nidoran prepare himself, undoubtedly utilizing his Focus Energy move to try to give himself more of a fighting chance. "A-ah, Zephyr..." he said, reaching out and putting a paw on his companion's shoulder. "P-please, don't exert yourself. I-It'll be bad if you wear yourself out now. I-I won't be able to take on the S-Sableye if anything goes wrong. M-maybe you should try to leave this one to me...."

Despite his words...Jet wasn't sure he had what it took to win the fight on his own. But still...the last thing he wanted was for Zephyr to knock himself out again with another Head Smash. And at this point, the Buizel had a feeling that he knew him well enough to be able to predict his thoughts on the matter. He seemed like a simple enough Pokémon, anyway.

The Nidoran shivered as the effects of the leer took place, in retaliation, his own eyes took on a blue tint, as he used Leer against the Tranquil as well.
"I can take him with my hands tied behind my back," the Nidoran huffed stubbornly, though it was quite obvious he was in no condition to do such a thing. It would be best if he merely stayed on the sidelines and used Leer over and over again on the Tranquil, considering Jet used many physical type attacks and tranquil usually lacked a method of restoring its defenses. However the dim-witted young Nidoran was adamant about attacking the tranquil with every fiber of his being that he had left! He would take this thing down even if it killed him!

The Tranquill allowed a small smirk, or at least as much of one that a beak could show, come across his face as he watched the Nidoran shiver from the effects of his Leer. However, his triumph did not last very long. Only moments later, he saw the Nidoran's own eyes began to gain a slight, abnormal blue coloration. Then he himself felt himself shivering, having fallen victim to his opponent's Leer as well. This, he did not take very kindly to. He glared down at the Nidoran, ready to stop messing around and get that glaring Pokémon down on the ground. So he immediately raised his wings and flapped them, removing himself from the branch, before gliding downward. His body rushed downward, aimed straight for Zephyr, and attempted to slam his entire body into him using his Quick Attack.

Jet saw the Tranquill rising into the air and his eyes widened slightly. He knew immediately that this meant he was going onto the attack. And odds were, when coupled with that Leer attack from before, that it was going to be some kind of direct, physical attack. With that thought, he knew what he needed to do. He began to form water on his tails once again, just like before. As long as he was not the target of the attack, he would not be overpowered, so he had nothing to fear. All he had to do was take the Bird Pokémon by surprise. So when the Tranquill flew down and finally came within range, he spun his body around and aimed his Aqua Tail straight for his opponent's chest.

The Tranquill, since his entire focus had been on Zephyr, did not notice the Buizel's incoming attack until it was too late. His eyes widened as he was slammed hard in the chest and thrown backward as though he had been a baseball to a bat. Thanks to Zepyr's Leer, he took more damage than he should have and tumbled through the air. He eventually managed to right himself in the air once more and glare at the Buizel. "So, you want to get knocked out first, do ya?" he growled at the runt that had dared interrupt his attack.

"Sylvy... I... I love you." Aaron nuzzled at the Sylveon's neck, a blush on his cheeks hidden from view due to his fur. Sylvy in turn nuzzled back. The Deino loved fairy type all his life, but He knew she's the one, his true mate...

In reality however, Aaron slept soundlessly under a tree, unaware of the events happening a few minutes off to where he is. The Deino's face showed pure bliss, not wanting to end the wonderful dream he was having. The dream however ended in a sour note as the noise from the background woke Aaron up. "Wait... What? Aaron slowly got up to his feet, grogginess overcome his senses. Who woke him up? what was that noise? No use wondering about it. Aaron investigate the noise, annoyed that something or someone thought it was funny to ruin his dream.

"Agh...!" Jet cried out in pain. The Tranquill had charged down from his perch above, once more utilizing his Quick Attack move. Unfortunately for him, he could not keep up with the evolved Pokémon's superior speed. The Tranquill's body slammed up against his, throwing him backward and up against a nearby tree. But he did not allow himself to stop there. He growled and reached out, trying to grasp the Flying-type's feathers with his paws as desperately as he could. He then tried to wind up his tail, a vortex of water beginning to form around it. He then immediately swung it forward in an attempt to slug the bird Pokémon in his face with his powerful Aqua Tail attack.

Unfortunately for him, the Tranquill was able to pull out of his grip with ease, since he was unable to find a solid grip with his loose paws and his own slick feathers. as such, the Aqua Tail missed its mark by a mile, allowing the Tranquill to fly backward a bit. "Whew, that was too close," he said with a hint of mockery in his tone. "Well then, perhaps I should just put you down so that you can't interfere with my fun any longer." Then, without hesitation, his eyes began to glow. As they did, virtually invisible waves made their way through the air toward the helpless Buizel. And soon, he felt them start to take affect.

"Wh...what is...going on...?" Jet murmured weakly as he felt his body begin to grow more and more sluggish. It was as though his body were starting to shut down on him out of nowhere.

"Nighty-night, runt," the Tranquill replied gleefully. "Have fun taking your nap thanks to my Hypnosis. That should make things infinitely easier."

Right on cue, Jet fell to the ground, collapsed in a heap, sound asleep.

The Tranquill laughed and flew down, planting one of his feet on top of the Buizel's slumbering body, pinning him firmly to the grass. "Oh my, now that was fun. But before I keep having my fun tossing you around, let's see if you have anything to catch my eye...." Now that the Buizel was slumbering away, he was helpless to defend himself as the Tranquill reached down, digging into the Buizel's Explorer's Bag and sifting through his items. He searched for anything he could claim as his own.
