» Likes:

Games – As childish as it may sound, Nyx finds joy in play. She loves depending on chance and finds these sorts of activities refreshing. They help rid of her eternal boredom and allow her to enjoy herself, as well as toy with others when she feels it fit. While many may assume her to be a compulsive cheater due to her reputation, suspicious demeanor, and her odd love for gambles, she is actually far from that. She hates cheating more than anything and is not against using the most brutal of punishments for those who dare to participate unfairly.

Treasure – Like many of her kind, she has an affinity for riches and wealth. If it’s shiny, chances are she wants it. Jewels, coins, trinkets, as long as they have some form of high value or aesthetic appeal this Sableye will gladly take them. It’s typical, but she loves precious stones the most, as they are not only pleasing to her eyes but they are also delicious.

Humorous Pokemon – Much like most pokemon, she has her own preferences for what is funny and what is not. It doesn’t take a lot to make her laugh; so much that she claims all she needs to cackle is to see some genuine determination in the comedian present. She appreciates the idea of others trying to improve her mood or entertain her.

Hiding – If someone could phase into the darkness and move as quietly as the evening breeze, would they really waste such an ability staying in plain sight? Nyx, being the rather whimsical pokemon herself, prefers having unexpected entrances. She utilizes her ability to blend into the shadows with admirable skill, often using it for ambushes and the like. However, it’s mostly used to catch her targets off guard and give her an early chuckle.

Night – What’s not to love about the evening? The cold winds, the dark but beautiful sky dotted by constellations and an alluring moon, and the general peacefulness is perfect enough to put anyone at ease. Born under the stars, Nyx has always had a close connection with the night. She feels less exposed and vulnerable in her element, allowing her to act with confidence and comfort.

» Dislikes:

Sleep – Nyx is nocturnal, or so she claims. In truth, she’s more of an insomniac than anything. Day or night, this Sableye has difficulty in finding rest. Her mind is always cluttered with desires to move and explore, causing her to be unable to fall into slumber. She has an easier time relaxing at night, but her stubborn yearning to relish such moments of peace prevents her from fixing her internal clock. As a result, she’s more prone to making up for her lost hours through random naps spread about during the day.

Psychic Pokemon – There is nothing more painful and irritating than having to encounter a psychic type, or so she claims. Years of having been mistreated by these pokemon have lead Nyx to develop a burning hatred for them, creating a mental stereotype wherein all psychics were pompous, self-righteous, dark and ghost type-hating traitors. While they don’t pose as a physical threat to her, she has a preference to simply stay away from them at all costs. This does not mean, however, that she will back down if pursued.

Captivity – While the life of an Outlaw provides her all the excitement and freedom she desires, it does come with its issues. Officers and explorers are always on her tail, threatening to lock her up behind bars or inflict punishment for her actions. Nyx doesn’t consider her minor crimes anything worth being contained in such terrible circumstances. She hates being held back, especially when it involves cages or anything of the sort that makes her feel like some sort of petty beast. She is skilled in escape, and so far none have succeeded in turning her to the law.

Explorers – Much like her issue with Psychic types, Nyx has a stereotype for explorers. Life as an outlaw hadn’t been made easy by them, and while she does enjoy the challenge, she hates how many are so uptight and greedy. She assumes that all of them are glory-hogging, selfish jerks who only look out for their own benefit.

Betrayal – Nyx trusts little, and should it be given to someone, it had better be held on a high pedestal. She doesn’t like being double crossed, whether it be a few terrible choice of words or an alliance with her enemy, she will not treat this offense lightly.

» Personality:

Elusive and with a knack for deception, Nyx can be a difficult pokemon to trust. She can be very insensitive at times, choosing not to see pokemon as beings but simply pawns that can either hinder or benefit her. She’s not against lying, and often does it just for the heck of it. Due to her reputation, it’s not exactly safe to simply reveal her identity, and as a result she forms several fake ones in order to avoid being pursued.  Years of having to mislead others have led her to become skilled in this art, and rarely does anybody see through her façade.

Her deceitful behavior branches from trust issues. Nyx is a skeptic, especially when it comes to pokemon acting ‘chummy’ with her. She believes that everyone is only out for themselves, and as a result finds it hard to believe that some are sincere with their kind gestures. She’s not all oblivious that she can’t detect it, but the problem is simply she can’t believe it. She easily doubts the loyalty of her peers and has the tendency to drift from them in fear of causing further betrayal.

All that aside, Nyx is a fairly carefree pokemon. She roams the land without worry, choosing not to dawdle upon trivial problems such as futures and fortunes. She takes obstacles as they come and is not egoistic enough that she won’t back down if she finds fate going against her favor. She’s a selfish heart and holds self-sufficiency as her highest priority, frequently endangering others in favor of her own well-being. She’s easily bored and is always searching for something to do, most often ending with her causing mischief.

Although it may be a laborious agenda at first, it can be found that beneath her childishness and loathsome tendencies, she can be a fair and decent pokemon. Unless it’s due to a dire situation, she avoids committing any acts that may permanently damage her connections. It is not known whether this is from fondness or for some convoluted ploy, as the reason varies with who she is dealing with.

» History:

Somewhere, hidden in the shrouds of fog in the distant north, stood the temple of Delphius. It was a famous training ground for Psychic types of all kinds, as well as others who were deemed ‘worthy’ by the temple elders.  Subjects ranging from beliefs of gods to dabbling in the art of ‘otherworldly abilities’ were available and made more efficient by the temple’s influences and vast fortune, creating an illusion of wonder and great opportunity for many.

There was once a loyal member of the temple; A male Medicham of the name Seth, to be precise. He was a silent lad; never once complaining about his orders and always remained punctual with his duties. He didn’t stand out from the others, but did receive merit for his hard work and obedience. Other than what was known at present, Seth’s background remained unknown and he had yet to utter a word of it. Many of the higher officials dismissed him as just another plain student, capable of no problem except the occasional calligraphic slip-up on his scribing duties.

It wasn’t until a day of pouring rain that he began the chaos. Into the temple he had snuck a lone, heavily injured Sableye, possibly out of pity for the wanderer. Whether it was because of his all-too kind heart or the imp’s persuasion, the Medicham created a deal. In return for keeping the sableye hidden in the temple until fully healed, the dark-ghost pokemon would grant him any wish he pleased.

And so, for the time after, he spent the majority of his waking moments assisting the intruder. Between tending to her wounds and preventing anyone from finding out about his secret, Seth had little time to rest.  And yet, even then, he kept his end of the deal.

The Sableye had been a handful herself. Sarcastic and rather mischievous, she regularly snuck around the temple and caused trouble – That is, if she wasn’t complaining about her stinging wounds. At first, she and the Medicham were on bad terms. He would be frustrated out of his mind as she continued with her antics. Her only excuse for her havoc? “It’s in my blood.”

Nevertheless, the two of them came to form a peculiar bond. As the Sableye’s wounds faded, the Medicham found himself dreading her departure. Upon being told this, the imp did the unexpected: she agreed. The departure was left forgotten.

All seemed well until the day of inspection. The sableye hadn’t been feeling well and could barely move, let alone escape to another hiding spot to avoid being found by the officials. It was too late by the time Seth was able to intervene. They had been caught.

The Sableye was sent far, far away. Seth was to be given appropriate punishment – one that was dire enough to teach him a lesson. Without a final farewell, the two were separated. Seth was sent into a spiral of despair.

That was until he found the egg.

The Temple was unable to do anything to stop him from keeping it. Life was an essential part of their values, and doing anything to disrupt the natural growth of a child with a parent was considered a high offense. They attempted to return the mother, but found that the Sableye had gone missing. Her fate remained unknown.

The egg hatched into a healthy, female Sableye. Her likeness to her mother was uncanny, and her father loved her to bits from the moment he first saw her. She was born at midnight, under the moonlight shining from a window. He named her Nyx.

To say that she was similar to her mother was an understatement. From the moment she learned to walk, the young Sableye caused as much chaos as her mother had. She was a quick learner, but her intelligence was hindered by her unending desire to cause as many mishaps as her tiny claws could handle.

When she came of age, the Sableye was sent to start learning the ways of the Temple with the rest of the younglings. The majority of her peers were psychic types, and a several ‘gifted’ pokemon of varied typing. Although nervous, Nyx was eager to finally enjoy the company of others her age.

To put it in summary, it was the worst day of her life. Being the only dark and the only ghost, she stood out like a sore thumb. She found herself easily bored by the lessons, causing her to fall behind the rest. Her peers teased and tricked her endlessly.

After several weeks of attending, Nyx gave up. She admitted to her difficulties, and fortunate was she to have an understanding father. He pulled her out of the lessons, taking as much time as needed in order to get the approval of the temple to have him teach his child privately. In the end, the temple leaders decided it was for the betterment of the other children not to be exposed to the likes of Nyx, and passed her father’s request.

It was… an improvement, at least. Nyx found solace in her father’s company and learned much quicker than she had with her instructors. However, she was still experiencing abuse from the other temple members. Turns out, even adults and full-fledge priests weren’t against viewing her as some sort of pest.

Finally, the Sableye could take it no longer.  She told her father that she was leaving. She had become old enough that she could fend for herself, and the training she was given guaranteed that. She requested that he was not to follow her. The Medicham didn’t seem surprised. He didn’t try to stop her. He only asked her one thing: “What makes you so sure that you’ll be alright?”

With a sly grin, Nyx left her father with only one statement: “It’s in my blood.”

The imp now wanders the land, freed of her metaphorical shackles. Visiting towns and causing mischief and mayhem wherever she went;  Nyx lives on, much happier than she had been in the temple. She came about Grassveil fairly recently, though it didn’t take her long to make a name for herself.

» Other:

Nyx has few features that distinguish her from the rest of her species. She’s about 1’02" in height, a bit shorter than the rest of her species. Her ears are longer and her typical stance is straight, unlike the usual slouching pose of most Sableye. Otherwise, her color and features remain as identical as they come.
