| Who here has read Immortal Lycanthrops by Hal Johnson or Scrawl by Mark Shulman? Seriously. SPEAK TO MEEEEEEEE!!!! ;A; I NEED BOOK DISCUSSIONZZZ Have any book recommendations THAT PREFERABLY NOT MANY HAVE HEARD ABOUT. Meaning NO i don't want twilight or mother bucking percy jackson/hunger games/game of thrones/kite runner on here. I want a book that nobody seems to know about. Gotta give the other books a chance to shine! Try to give a short summary without spoiling the book ^^ Recommended books: Scrawl by Mark Shulman -Tod Munn is a bully. He’s tough, but times are even tougher. The wimps have stopped coughing up their lunch money. The administration is cracking down. Then to make things worse, Tod and his friends get busted doing something bad. Something really bad. This bully is forced to write his experience on paper. What does he have to say for himself? Immortal Lycanthropes by Hal Johnson -Brilliant. Just Brilliant. I loved every moment of it. Its a bit philosophical at times, and even contains a good bit of humor. If you liked animorphs or the concept of people changing into animals and vice versa, give this book a try. Not going to say much else because i'm afraid i'll spoil it. *throws book at Guest's face GO READ IT!!!! Spook's Apprentice by Joseph Delaney - The basic premise is about a boy, the 7th son of the 7th son who is attuned to supernatural horrors. He gets apprenticed to a man known as a Shade, people whose responsibility is to hunt, bind, or placate otherworldly entities like witches, doppelgängers, ghosts, and other horrors from causing too much harm to humanity. Incarceron by Catherine Fisher -(Note: Ripped from site, may contain spoilers)Imagine a living prison so vast that it contains corridors and forests, cities and seas. Imagine a prisoner with no memory, who is sure he came from Outside, even though the prison has been sealed for centuries and only one man, half real, half legend, has ever escaped. Imagine a girl in a manor house in a society where time has been forbidden, where everyone is held in a seventeenth century world run by computers, doomed to an arranged marriage that appals her, tangled in an assassination plot she both dreads and desires. One inside, one outsideBut both imprisoned.Imagine a war that has hollowed the moon, seven skullrings that contain souls, a flying ship and a wall at the world's end. Imagine the unimaginable.Imagine Incarceron. Try Magisterium by Jeff Hirsch - Summary taken from Amazon:
On one side of the Rift is a technological paradise without famine or want. On the other side is a mystery.
Sixteen-year-old Glenn Morgan has lived next to the Rift her entire life and has no idea of what might be on the other side of it. Glenn's only friend, Kevin, insists the fence holds back a world of monsters and witchcraft, but magic isn't for Glenn. She has enough problems with reality: Glenn's mother disappeared when she was six, and soon after, she lost her scientist father to his all-consuming work on the mysterious Project. Glenn buries herself in her studies and dreams about the day she can escape. But when her father's work leads to his arrest, he gives Glenn a simple metal bracelet that will send Glenn and Kevin on the run---with only one place to go. With MAGISTERIUM, Jeff Hirsch brings us the story of a complex, captivating world that will leave readers breathless until the very last page.
Ship Breaker by Paolo Bacigalupi - Another Amazon Summary:
In America's Gulf Coast region, where grounded oil tankers are being broken down for parts, Nailer, a teenage boy, works the light crew, scavenging for copper wiring just to make quota--and hopefully live to see another day. But when, by luck or chance, he discovers an exquisite clipper ship beached during a recent hurricane, Nailer faces the most important decision of his life: Strip the ship for all it's worth or rescue its lone survivor, a beautiful and wealthy girl who could lead him to a better life...
In this powerful novel, award-winning author Paolo Bacigalupi delivers a thrilling, fast-paced adventure set in a vivid and raw, uncertain future.
The Roar by Emma Clayton - Same deal as before:
Mika lives in future London, behind The Wall: Solid concrete topped with high-voltage razor wire and guarded by a battalion of Ghengis Borgs, it was built to keep out the animals, because animals carry the plague.
Or so Mika's been told.
But ever since Ellie vanished a year ago, Mika's suspected his world may be built on secrets--and lies. When a mysterious organization starts recruiting mutant kids to compete in violent virtual reality games, Mika takes the chance to search for his twin sister--and the truth.
Another Jekyll, Another Hyde by Daniel Nayeri, Dina Nayeri - Summary from GoodReads:
When his billionaire father marries French governess Nicola Vileroy, high society is all abuzz — but Thomas, the most popular student at Marlowe, is just plain high. Ever since his girlfriend Belle dumped him, he’s been spending less time with old friends and more time getting wasted at clubs. But after someone slips him a designer drug one night — and his stepmother seems to know way too much about his private life — things really start to get scary. As Thomas’s blackouts give way to a sinister voice inside his head, and as news of a vicious hate crime has students on edge, Thomas comes to the sickening realization that Madame Vileroy has involved him in a horrifying supernatural plan. How can he muster the strength and will to stop it? The pulse-quickening climax revisits Jekyll and Hyde as a current-day cautionary tale laced with a heady dose of paranormal intrigue.
Truancy, by Isamu Fukui - I spoiled the book for me trying to get this for you guys -_-, Summary from Good Reads:
In an alternate world, in a nameless totalitarian city, the autocratic Mayor rules the school system with an iron fist, with the help of his Educators. Fighting against the Mayor and his repressive Educators is a group of former students called the Truancy, whose goal is to take down the system by any means possible—at any cost.
Against this backdrop, fifteen-year-old Tack is just trying to survive. His days are filled with sadistic teachers, unrelenting schoolwork, and indifferent parents. Things start to look up when he meets Umasi, a mysterious boy who runs a lemonade stand in an uninhabited district.
Then someone close to Tack gets killed in the crossfire between the Educators and the Truants, and Tack swears vengeance. To achieve his purpose, he abandons his old life and joins the Truancy. There, he confronts Zyid, an enigmatic leader with his own plans for Tack. But Tack soon finds himself torn between his desire for vengeance and his growing sympathy for the Truants….

| There is a series I actually enjoyed very much. It was called the Spook's Apprentice. The basic premise is about a boy, the 7th son of the 7th son who is attuned to supernatural horrors. He gets apprenticed to a man known as a Shade, people whose responsibility is to hunt, bind, or placate otherworldly entities like witches, doppelgängers, ghosts, and other horrors from causing too much harm to humanity. |

| I put it in the book recommendations, I'll see if my library has them Spook's Apprentice seems more interesting than Incarceron, but Catherine Fisher sounds a bit familiar...like i read a book from them before... | |

| Good Omens by Neil Gaiman Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman Jam by Yahtzee Croshaw Erased by Nick Gifford City of Angles (online novel) Haunted by Chuck Pahalniuk (WARNING: HIGHLY DISTURBING) Those aren't well known - as far as I know, anyway. Go ahead and have fun with them. Anyway, excuse me as I look for Immortal Lycanthropes. |
