Crystal Conundrum - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Crystal Conundrum   Crystal Conundrum - Page 2 EmptyWed Sep 06, 2017 10:57 pm

First topic message reminder :

Alki remembered the first time she'd been in the Grassveil market. Alone, terrified, and small, she'd been a run away, with no idea on what to do with her newfound freedom away from her parents. There she was again, although she had a pretty clear idea on what her purpose was now. At first she'd thought it was guild work, but a couple of missions had told her that wasn't true at all. The guild had allowed her to meet Darcy, though, so she couldn't harbor too many negative feelings towards the place. The guild master was rather nice as well, although Alki felt rather sure she wouldn't hesitate to kick her out of the guild if she knew what Alki was going to do.

But there in the market, Alki felt right . When she'd met Synd'r, she felt amazed at how she'd described her old band of thieves, of what she'd said, and Alki wanted to be like the Vulpix. She knew she had a lot to learn, sure, but she wanted to learn how to be a good thief, to be as worthy of the title as Synd'r’s old group members. That was a big difference between the guild and… this already. And then there was the fact she was in a much better position to help Darcy as a thief than as a Guild-Mon…

The Jigglypuff adjusted the straw hat nestled onto her head. A couple of small holes on either side of the brim allowed her ears to poke neatly through, so as to not mess up her sense of hearing. Her curl poked out from under her hat, and a band on the bulge of her hat secured her red identification feather.

Alki scanned the crowd, searching for another red feather amongst the swath of Pokemon. She was supposed to meet someone. What if she couldn't see them? Pretty much all of the Pokemon in the crowd were taller than her. What if they couldn't see her because she was so short? Alki felt embarrassed just thinking of the possibility. She lifted the hat up into the air, as if inspecting it, but all she wanted to do was to seem a bit taller. Every little inch counted… the sight of the blushing Jigglypuff that was standing on her toes as she lifted the hat as high it could go might've seemed strange, but given how crowded it was, and how small the child was, she felt like this action was justified. She could only hope that her contact would notice her; a pink ball that was hardly a foot and a half tall wasn't exactly noticeable in a crowd. Her mind began to wander as she held her hat up. Who would meet her? The only thing she knew was that it wasn't Synd'r, and while the prospect of meeting another thief was certainly exciting, it was certainly nerve wracking as well. But the only thing she could do now was wait for them to show up.

Pterra's respect for the younger pokemon rose a little as she fired back that comment at him. So she wasn't a complete pushover then, was she? Good for her. Pterra could respect the bravery it would take for the smaller pokemon to stand up to him, especially after her inital composure was lost.

"Heh, glad you're not a total wimp," he laughed, seemingly indifferent to the slight he was giving to his so-called "partner". "So, you'll follow the butterfree closer and I'll follow you at a distance from the air. Sounds like a good plan," he said, suddenly business-like.

He looked around the area. "Well, we'd better get into position. I'll be in the air. You'd better get over to his stall so you can follow him."

Alki forced a smirk onto her face, although the cocky nature did not at all reflect what she was really feeling. She was good at faking things, though. She imagined that was a good quality for a thief to have, and so far, it seemed as though it was working. She was certainly a pushover, and she was definitely a “Complete wimp”. There was no sense in lying to herself about something so fundamentally true. There wasn’t much she could really do about it, but at least here, in front of her rather rude partner, she could pretend to be something she wasn’t.

“C’mon, gimme a bit of credit… I’m a thief for a reason, right? It’s certainly not because I’m some sorta weakling, or a coward...” She said, knowing full well that she was both of those thing. She was a tad surprised, however, at the sudden shift in tone. He went from making fun of her, to acting just like a partner would. She found herself missing Darcy. The Skitty would never approve of this activity, but Alki could only dream about what it’d be like to be working with her sister, instead of some Aerodactyl who certainly did not seem like a fan of her.

“Sure, I’m ready. Let’s go, then!” She said, returning to her old bright, jovial, fake personality. People tended to look at her species as cute, and if nothing else, it was a pretty solid safety net to fall back on. After all, who would suspect that the small child would be anything more than a cute face, instead of a thief? She dashed through the crowds, hearing people mumble, seeing them smile. A couple Pokemon even made way for her, and before long, she was away from the Aerodactyl. She stopped. The butterfree was still there, looking over his stall. The location was memorized in her head, where the Butterfree would be going, and just how close it was to the guild. What a stroke of luck! All she had to do was follow him, now. Just as soon as he actually left...

Pterra gave Alki a wink as he thrust himself into the air, his wings beating hard. He flew up into the sky, circling a tree as he climbed through the air. That jigglypuff... she was a different sort of outlaw than Pterra had ever met before. She seemed so timid and weak... but he supposed, that was rather the point! No one would ever suspect such a creature to be a thief or an outlaw. He wondered how Synd'r and Alki had met, and what circumstances had led to Alki being told about the Phantom Thieves. He, himself, had met Synd'r before the Phantoms were ever a thought in the vulpix's head, so it was only natural that she would invite him upon the formation of the group, but Alki... had she, also, tried to rob Synd'r? That would have been an interesting interaction to see, he thought. Whatever had happened had clearly impressed the vulpix, otherwise she would never have invited Alki to join the Phantoms.

Pterra circled over the marketplace, eyeing the ground as he did so. He could see the butterfree's stall. He was sure to be nothing but a speck in the sky to any non-bird pokemon. He waited, still circling the marketplace. He couldn't wait to report their success to Synd'r. For some strange reason, he felt the need to impress the young vulpix. Maybe it was because he had messed up so much on their first encounter, he needed to redeem himself in her eyes, so she didn't think he was a moron forever. That would really suck. He wanted to be feared and impressive, not thought of as weak or dumb.

The butterfree below left his stall, and Pterra lazily circled once more before setting a course in the same direction as the butterfree. He tilted his head down to get closer to the ground, while still keeping himself hidden from the target.

Alki smiled back at Pterra, acknowledging his wink with one of her own. Good thing he left so soon too, otherwise, she wasn't sure she'd be able to pretend much longer. Once Alki was sure he was out of earshot, she loosed a trembling sigh of relief. She'd gotten through that conversation well enough, at least. She'd managed to salvage some respect from the Aerodactyl, anyways, and aside from the job, that was all that really mattered, wasn't it? Alki took a few seconds to compose herself. Thankfully, the Butterfree afforded her the opportunity to do so. He seemed like a careful sort, being sure to not leave anything unaccounted for before he left. Would he notice the slip of paper? Alki held her breath as the Butterfree looked through his supplies, but it seemed as if she had nothing to worry about. The Butterfree turned away from his stall and set off, his wings beating lazily as he set off in roughly the guild’s direction.

The girl counted to ten, letting the Butterfree go further and further away, before she began to follow him. She measured her steps carefully, keeping her footfalls deliberately silent. The guild member was good about silence: her sister had even told her before she'd evolved! Alki looked up into the sky, and against the backdrop of grey clouds, she spotted… nothing. Just a few specks that could be -- but maybe were not -- Pterra. She focused back on the Butterfree. For now, they were partners, and surely, he had her back. Synd'r was smart, and if they'd been paired together, she was sure it was because Synd'r had faith they could work together. All she had to do was play her part.

The little girl focused on the excitement that just stealing the slip of paper had given her. Finding the location didn’t mean stealing anything from him quite yet, but between the slip of paper, and doing her job, Alki couldn’t wait to tell Synd’r about it! She smiled widely at the thought, following the Butterfree to wherever it was they were going.

[OOC: I'd be down to time skip if you wanna]

Pterra circled lazily overhead as the sun dipped below the treeline of the forests that surrounded Grassveil. The butterfree had met with his client -a sableye with a shifty atmosphere around him. The whole meeting had taken about an hour or so, and now the sun was setting. Pterra wondered what the two had talked about for an hour, but while his eyesight was good, his hearing wasn't nearly as enhanced, and he'd been out of range from their speech. Perhaps Alki had been close enough to hear them?

Whatever they had talked about, the sableye had vacated the area about five minutes ago. The butterfree was now leaving the area. Pterra followed the butterfree at a distance, hoping Alki was doing the same and hadn't fallen asleep or something.

((OOC: ok, TIME-SKIP is a GO! Also, I figured the Sableye could be an accomplice of his, maybe his Black-Market contact or something. Up to you what they talk about, if anything.))

Crystal Conundrum - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Crystal Conundrum   Crystal Conundrum - Page 2 EmptySat Dec 23, 2017 8:43 pm

Alki had been following the Butterfree for quite a while. They'd travelled for a kilometer or two, and he didn't turn his head to look behind him, not even once. He was just a bit foolish for that, considering what his business was, yet at the same time, Alki couldn't help but feel a bit of pride over this fact. She was that quiet?! The girl smiled broadly at this thought, not bothering to look up for Pterra. She'd be quite alright on her own, thank you very much! Why worry about the Butterfree’s moves or the danger she was in, if she could just not get caught?

The Butterfree slowed his pace before coming to a stop, and so, the jigglypuff did as well. They were there! Within shouting distance of the guild, too. Why here, though? There didn't seem to be anything of note, to her or to the scammer. She hid behind a nearby dumpster, lowering herself to the ground to get some sort of picture of the situation in her head. Even with one eye and one ear to the ground, the balloon Pokemon didn't have nearly as a good an image as she would have liked. Oh well. An uncomfortable, lackluster line of sight was better than getting caught. It was better than nothing, right?

The girl passed a few uncomfortable minutes squirming on the hot, dusty floor before a second pair of feet finally showed up. Of course, it was hard to determine a species by a pair of feet , but then again, species was not exactly what matter, was it? Pterra had the eyesight thing covered anyways, she reminded herself. She stood up off the floor that was steadily increasing in it's discomfort-causing levels, and put her back against the dumpster. She couldn't see them anymore, but then, that also meant that they couldn't see her either.

With both her ears perked, she listened to what these two Pokemon had to say to each other. They didn't speak in a particularly close or friendly manner. To her ears, both had a strictly-business tone of voice. Almost like herself and Pterra, although with a significant amount less of the Aerodactyl’s dramatic flair. They talked so much too! Who would have guessed that scamming people was so complicated? Haggling and bargaining, lump sums, offers and counter offers; they spent the better part of an hour talking about business that Alki didn't understand and didn't care to understand. She needed a location for these gems. Their exact value wasn't exactly relevant. They're worth a lot. She could ask Synd’r that question later. The girl resisted an urge to yawn and forced herself to concentrate through the boredom that was this conversation.

Thankfully enough, the topic soon shifted from money and amounts, to something that was much more important to the jigglypuff. Timetables might come in useful. When a deal would be going down could be important. It wouldn't be happening for a while yet, anyways. Or at least, it wasn't planned to happen. Whoever this new Pokemon was made the mistake of inquiring about the location of the gemstones, and the Butterfree made the even worse mistake of… no, wait. He didn't answer. All Alki heard was the rustling of a sheet of paper, a couple of curt goodbyes, and then, silence. The Butterfree did not return down the same road. The other Pokemon who had joined them was nowhere to be seen when Alki stepped out from her hiding spot either. He'd gotten a piece of paper. He'd asked about the location. It wasn't hard to put two and two together.

She bit her lip and spun around, clearly distressed as she searched for the other Pokemon. She'd been too slow to come out from behind the dumpster. He could be anywhere! Alki began to wonder if she should just pick a direction and hope for the best, but the fact that she had a partner returned to her. He was supposed to be keeping an eye out, right? She waved her hat and feather in the air again, hoping to attract the attention of the Aerodactyl. Arceus knew she needed his help…

(Ooc: I was thinking that the slip of paper would have the location of the gemstones on it, although what it says exactly could be up to you! c:)
