Hiding from the Storm - Page 4 Empty
PostSubject: Hiding from the Storm   Hiding from the Storm - Page 4 EmptySat Mar 16, 2013 8:01 am

First topic message reminder :

To be truthful, Peter thought that he would never come here. But, here he was. Standing just outside the mouth of Serene Cave.

The Chimchar stared into the depth of the dark cave as it sent waves of chills down his spine. No one said that the cave was dark! After feuds with his father, Peter finally decided that today was the day.

Or was it?

He suddenly started to doubt this choice. What if it was the wrong one? What if he was lost in the cave for days!? There was stories of Pokemon who was lost there for days!

Peter gulped as he turned around to a path that headed back to Rainfront Town. He should head back, his father would be worried sick. Then again, since when did he ever worry? No, he should just take the long way around. It may take four days, but it would be better than getting lost in the dark with who knows what.

Then, Peter realized that there was a huge shadow looming over him.

As he looked up, he saw a huge grey blur in the sky, no doubt a storm. Great Arceus.

Peter groaned out loudly as he faced the cave again as he slowly began to walk into the mouth. His tail shone against the dark moist walls as he ventured deeper, and his steps became slower. He could hear the wind picking up and flying into the cave's mouth, making a loud sound.

That only made the Chimchar even more scared.

The Zubat screeched in pain as it was shocked by the Thunder Punch. Although it wasn't a very powerful shock, it still managed to inflict paralysis. The bat was now covered in small sparks to indicate its condition, fruitless as it tried to flap its wings. As Peter loosened his grip, the bat gave one last cry before it was dropped into the pit. It descended into the darkness, unmoving but shrieking in fear.

Mordred watched as the Zubat was sent down to the abyss. It was helpless, but the scraggy could care less. They were safe now, at least for the time being. He'd never felt so grateful to see someone get thrown into a pit. With a short chuckle, the scraggy allowed himself to relax, no longer having to hold a painful death-grip on the wall in fear of being pulled off by an angry Zubat. But he still held a firm grip, not wanting to be the next to fall.

"Peter, get climbing! We need to get out now before that Zubat comes back!" Mordred urged, wanting to get out of the pit as soon as possible. They couldn't be sure if the bat would be able to recover from its state before it hit the floor, but the scraggy didn't want to take any chances. The reptile began slowly descending up the wall, a small gap distance between him and the Chimchar. His injuries and exhaustion were weighing upon him, but he did his best to ignore it.

Peter stared at the abyss of where the Zubat disappeared within. Everything else became so distant. He couldn't believe what he just did. What did he just do? His breath became short in anxiety as soon as he tried to gather up his senses. Alright, you are in a cave... Yes. Serene cave. You are going to Rainfront--- No, to Grassveil! Yes, Grassveil! You're with an actual explorer. His name... Mordred! You're clinging against a wall and you just tossed a feral Pokemon into the pit.

Oh Arceus, will it be alright?

No, no focus! Peter told himself as he began to calm down a bit. Why are you doing this? Why are you doing this? His train of focus was interrupted by Mordred who spoke. Shivering still, Peter gave a short nod before he began to climb up slowly, just next to Mordred. Sure, he could go ahead, but it would strain Peter faster and he didn't have the strength to do so.

Mordred seemed to be fine-- not counting in all the bruises and open wounds-- and healthy. At least he was breathing and alive. How far did Peter fall? He thought as he kept pulling himself towards the edge of the pit. Butterflies began to hatch in Peter's stomach as he thought what if he didn't grab the wall.

It seemed as if it was an hour before he finally reached the edge. Panting and puffing, everything was still a blur. Perhaps it would have been better to take chances with the storm. Peter looked over to see if Mordred was alright-- That is, unless he fell down from exhaustion in the pit and Peter was too blind to notice.

Hiding from the Storm - Page 4 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Hiding from the Storm   Hiding from the Storm - Page 4 EmptyMon Jun 03, 2013 7:18 am

Minutes or even hours passed before Mordred finally grabbed the edge of the pit. Giving a sigh of relief, the scraggy gave the last ounce of energy he had left in order to pull himself out. He took a few paces away from the edge, before sitting down then setting to a lying on his back. He breathed heavily, nearly gasping for air. He never noticed how tired and aching he was until this moment of relaxation came upon him. He groaned, bringing a hand up to his face. His skull did not crack, but he was sure it was damaged heavily. His neck ached just as horribly, heck maybe even worse, as it had taken collision but had miraculously not snapped in two. With his previous adrenaline fading, he could feel blood returning to his wounds. The small drops of crimson tainted the reptile's skin, some plopping onto the ground below him. but he didn't care. He was alive, along with his companion. Just barely, but still alive. He'd probably need weeks of rest and medication after this, but they were close to reaching the exit anyways. At least, he hoped.

The scraggy opened his eyes, examining the stone ceiling. He couldn't hear the rain anymore. The storm had probably faded by now, which was rather disappointing. He raised his head slightly, just enough to see Peter. He furrowed his brows, just barely making out the Chimchar's face. He looked... confused. Or maybe tired. The reptile wasn't sure from the slight blur in his sight. Poor kid. Not even Mordred had thought a simple trip back to Grassveil was going to take so much difficulty, then again he had been lost here for a while. Maybe it was better he hadn't dragged Peter along. The scraggy wondered if the Chimchar was still willing to become an explorer after such a life-risking experience. He frowned, doubting the chances. Well, if they can't handle this sort of danger then chances are they'd die before they'd finish their first mission. The scraggy rested his head back on the cold, rocky floor, not paying mind to how it gave his head more pain.

Minutes of silence passed by, with Mordred not talking and just trying to rest as much as he could. The scraggy pulled himself up to a sitting position, biting back his cry as he felt the unbearable pain of his wounds. He took a deep breath, before finally sitting comfortably. Well, not really, but it was the best he could do at the moment. He looked up to the Chimchar, hesitating for a moment, before finally talking. "So...are... you still willing to become an explorer after all this?" He said, wincing between his words. His face really hurt, and talking wasn't helping, but he persevered.

This dice is not existing.

Hiding from the Storm - Page 4 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Hiding from the Storm   Hiding from the Storm - Page 4 EmptyFri Jun 14, 2013 7:10 pm

Peter blanked out for a moment when Mordred muttered something. It took him a bit for him to process what he just heard. He winced and looked over to the Scraggy and forced a smile. How did he know? Or was it obvious. Did Peter ever mention that he wanted to become an Explorer? The question boggled Peter for a bit. Yes, he made a stupid rash decision by running away from his home to join up a guild which he may not be able to be capable of. Yet, that was the same home which had those Pokemon who despise Peter, and that liar of a father.

Only joining up the guild and becoming an Explorer could prove that he wasn't a rotten apple and to prove the kids back home that they were wrong. His mother must have a perfectly reasonable motive of stealing. There has to be! Peter glanced back to the tunnel they took and thought of the collapsed tunnel. It would be a heck of a journey trying to go back now.

"Y-Yeah." Peter stuttered as he looked back over to Mordred. "I'm sure... I think..." The young Chimchar blew on his throbbing hands as they were no longer numb. Instead, they were searing with pain and his legs were tense with dried wounds. There was sweat beaded down his face and arms, it felt just so wrong all over him. Yet, it was refreshing.

Hiding from the Storm - Page 4 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Hiding from the Storm   Hiding from the Storm - Page 4 EmptySat Jun 15, 2013 5:03 am

Mordred gave a small, nervous chuckle. He wasn't entirely sure how to respond to that. Was he relieved he hadn't scared off a potential member? Or was he worried that the Chimchar wouldn't survive such a job? He decided to stick to the former. Peter had a lot of potential, especially after his performance in this trip. He may need some extra pushing due to his somewhat timid personality, but his raw strength would probably pull him through most situations. The scraggy could admit that the monkey probably would be able to surpass him in the future, but he wasn't going to say that any time soon.

"Well, we better get going then. Once we get back to Grassveil, we can get patched up and I can bring you to the Guildmaster to get you signed up." He finally said, before staggering onto his feet. He felt wobbly, and so, so pained. Once he was on his feet, he took a deep breath. He had to act strong, no matter how much it hurt. He was in the presence of a soon-to-be explorer, and he didn't want to look weak. He'd already been pathetic enough during the entire journey. The scraggy looked around, squinting his eyes to make out their current surroundings. The pit was in front of them, looking as huge as ever. Luckily, it didn't swallow up the entire floor, leaving a considerably large area its edge for them to cross. Looking past the large pit, there seemed to be a faint light in the distance. Was that the exit? The reptile wasn't sure, but he definitely hoped it was. He turned his focus back to the area he and his companion were currently on, seeing nothing except rocks. However, there was a small glint just in the rocks nearby.

The scraggy walked over to the glint, removing the rocks that were obscuring the item. To his surprise, it was a disk. A TM, if he could remember. Carefully, he got his red hood off and wrapped it around the item before picking it up. A psychic had once told him that these rare items would react on touch, causing the learning process they were imbued with to release and destroy the disk immediately. He dropped the item in his bag, before tying his hood back around his shoulders. Well, at least he found a few good items during this agonizing journey. He turned back to Peter, waiting for the Chimchar's signal that he was ready to continue.

Mordred would actually help Peter all the way to the Grassveil Guild? Peter winced in surprise, but couldn't help but smile. It was rare to come across nice and generous Pokemon these days.  Was the Guild full of kind and helping people?

"Th-Thanks Mordred.." Peter could only say. Was this the duty of being an Explorer? Exploring depths of the deepest dungeons and helping others no matter what's the cost? But, what if the cost was too big? Mordred risked his life several times just to protect Peter. Peter lifted himself up, trying to ignore the aching bones and weary muscles. The blurs all around him seemed as if it was a painting that went wet and then was dried off with some tiny details only just in sight. Mordred was a bit hard to spot because of the darkness and brown wall. But because of his light coloured skin, it was a bit easier. The Chimchar stumbled over to Mordred, not wanting to leave his side within the Labyrinth.

Wait, what's that Mordred has?

Peter easily recognized that it was a TM disc... Or was it a HM? But, from the round shape and blinding shininess, it was easy to detect. He doesn't really know much about them otherwise.

"So..." Peter muttered as he glanced around the cave. It wasn't very useful since Peter was quite blind. "Where to now?"

Hiding from the Storm - Page 4 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Hiding from the Storm   Hiding from the Storm - Page 4 EmptySun Jun 30, 2013 12:14 pm

"I think the light over there is the exit. Follow my lead and stick to the walls." Mordred uttered, wincing once more. He walked over to the far end of the pit, careful as not to accidentally fall in. He frowned as he drew closer to the gap leading to the other side of the pit, noticing how it was almost too small to walk on properly. He took a deep breath, mustering up his courage. He couldn't back down now. They were so close to getting out. There was no way they would be able to survive in this cave any longer.

Trembling feet stepped onto the cold cave floor as the reptile nervously made his way on the small path. His back was pressed hard against the wall as he took one side step at a time. It hurt from how it scraped him, but he wouldn't take any chances. A single flinch could cause him to lose balance and fall, possibly to his death this time. He bit his lip, brows furrowing in worry as he continued on the small path. His fingers twitched as he moved to grab the rocks that poked out from the wall beside him, giving him some extra balance and reassurance. The path was surprisingly long, but it only meant that the pit was really as huge as he thought it was. Maybe even huger. It made the scraggy all the more relieved he and his companion managed to get out, but he didn't allow such realizations relax him. Right now, he was back to square one. He could die for real.

He took a second to stop and look to his other side, expecting to see Peter following him. He hoped the monkey was still willing to cross, even with the large, gaping pit. The scraggy dreaded the idea of Peter falling in, especially after all they had done just to get out. He wasn't too far off, so there was still the possibility of him grabbing the fire type if there were any casualties, but his wounds weren't making it a good option.

Hiding from the Storm - Page 4 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Hiding from the Storm   Hiding from the Storm - Page 4 EmptyTue Jul 16, 2013 9:42 am

Peter looked over to the blurry yellow figure and paused. There was a way out? The monkey beamed as he walked over, but paused. Peter looked down at the ground and squinted, trying to see where the pit was. It was impossible to tell! Peter stepped back in panic, trying to look around for the pit. The floor was just so blurry! Shaking his head, Peter looked up to try and spot Mordred. There he was, the yellow blur with a tint of red. Slowly, Peter crept over, glancing at the ground as he did what was told and kept to the wall. So far, it seem like there was no other pits around.

The small monkey stopped with a flinch when his tail didn't light up a large area. It was awfully clear, even to a blurry eyed Chimchar, that was the pit, same one obviously. Just to make sure, Peter dipped his foot over to the edge of the possible pit and only felt the cold air within. Yup, a pit. So, how is it possible that Mordred was walking in mid air? Or, was Mordred climbing the wall?

'Mordred?' Peter spoke in a hushed tone. 'H-How are you... Able to cross?' His eyes darted from the wall and to the pit, unable to figure out what exactly was going on. Did Mordred jump to the other side? No, or yes? The light of his tail was simply in a weak state and his mind was like soup, unable to tell what was what. The Chimchar looked back up to Mordred for guidance, the only thing that Peter could really think of.

Hiding from the Storm - Page 4 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Hiding from the Storm   Hiding from the Storm - Page 4 EmptyFri Aug 02, 2013 5:11 pm

Mordred stood silent, waiting for signs that the monkey was going to move along. The small light of the Chimchar's tail didn't move from the edge of the pit, causing panic to start once more as the scraggy tried to usher the fire type to follow his lead. Upon seeing the flames move slightly, the dark type relaxed. Okay, maybe he was just hesitating. The reptile couldn't blame him really, after all the rigorous battling they had done to survive this cave. The fire type was probably exhausted at this point, maybe even to the point he might flop down unconscious. Hopefully that wouldn't happen now.

Upon hearing Peter's whispers, the scraggy grew puzzled. Well, the Chimchar wasn't exactly a dark type, so he probably couldn't have seen the path. "There's actually a small path here. Stay put, I'll come over and lead you." He cautioned, before slowly making his way towards the light. He seemed to have blanked out for a moment, as his focus was lost and his foot nearly slipped from the edge. He felt as if his heart had stopped completely in that brief moment as he quickly withdrew his foot. His eyes watched as the small stones disappeared into the dark abyss. He could feel his legs shaking and his heart pounding from that quick misstep, but urged himself to continue down the small path. His hand held firmly on the wall beside him as he began making his way on the path, cursing at the fact their bridge to escape had to be so small. He finally reached the edge once more, walking over to his confused companion.

"Peter, hold my hand so we can cross." He said, reaching out to the Chimchar. He would have been much more reluctant and embarrassed at having to demand this, but being tired and desperate to leave had made his shame slip. He wasn't sure how the fire type would react but was sure that there wasn't much of another choice. It was possible the monkey couldn't see clearly anymore from fatigue and his weakening fire made it risky to cross the narrow path without assistance. Mordred was not in the mood for taking risks anymore, and if the fire type were to fall off the path and into the pit he'd never forgive himself. He was tired, anxious, and was growing sick of all these damned rocks. But he wasn't going to leave Peter behind.

The Chimchar held his breath as Mordred slowly made his way back to the edge of the pit. Guilt weighed Peter down as he realized the situation slowly. He slowly backed up, allowing room for Mordred  to stand on. At first, Peter processed on what Mordred said before his expression turned in disgust. Peter paused, hesitating to think of what to do.

'H-Hold... Hands to cross?' Peter blurted unexpectedly. He stared at Mordred in awe with his mind in knots. Do they have to? He couldn't even bear slight pokes or a nice pat on the back. Peter even hardly know this Pokemon! But, that wasn't fair of Peter to complain. Mordred was risking his life over and over, from the wild Graveler and all the way to the pit. Now, Peter was compelling to do a simple task on holding Mordred's hand in order to cross the pit all because Peter's eyesight is poor.

'Sorry... Alright...' Peter muttered as he grabbed Mordred's hand. An unforgiving chill ran down Peter as he winced. As much as he wanted to object, he knew that there wasn't any other way of crossing... Unless the monkey could fly.

Hiding from the Storm - Page 4 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Hiding from the Storm   Hiding from the Storm - Page 4 EmptyWed Aug 14, 2013 12:35 pm

Even with the darkness surrounding them, Mordred could see the disgust in the Chimchar's face. His gift of being able to see in the dark coupled with the small flicker of fire made it hard not to. As the silence lingered, the scraggy started getting impatient. Why was the fire type hesitating this time? Did he word his request incorrectly? The reptile watched his companion, eyes still presenting his exhausted condition but now with a hint of annoyance.

The lizard seemed surprised upon hearing the Chimchar's words. His face turned from shocked to an odd mixture of puzzled and offended in moments. "Yes, I said hold hands, is there something wrong with that?" He said, voice growing louder for a fraction of the statement. He didn't ask anything outrageous. It wasn't as if holding hands meant the fire type would die or anything like that. The tired, slightly peeved explorer took a glance to his own hand, staring at it intently. It was covered in dirt, cuts, and a few traces of dried blood from his injuries, but nothing too disgusting. But the monkey seemed very squeamish, so it didn't seem all that unexpected that he'd refuse a simple gesture as holding hands, especially with the state the reptile's hands were in.

Mordred was snapped out of his thoughts when he saw Peter finally reach out and accept his hand. Upon contact, the dark type could already tell the Chimchar wasn't up for this. He could feel a slight shake, or maybe a wince come from his acquaintance, and that was all it took to make it clear that the fire type was utterly forcing himself. The scraggy couldn't understand why other than the fact his hands were dirty - Ironic as Peter's were just as uncleanly - but decided not to push the fire type further. A minute hadn't passed before the reptile quickly withdrew the idea and his hand, careful as not to inflict too much force.

"Nevermind. You obviously don't want to do this. Just hold onto the back of my hood or something." He grumbled, before bringing his hands up and securing the knot of the red fabric on his shoulders. By now, it was probably just as disheveled as he was. While he didn't like the idea of it being so unkempt, he'd learned to grow accustomed to it and actually appreciate the small clothing's surprisingly good endurance. His hand reached behind him, grabbing the hood's tail and pulling it forwards for a quick inspection. It had a few frays, a few tears, several marks of dust and taint, but nonetheless still holding on. Whoever had made this, they had made it with durability in mind.

"Yeah, just hold onto this. Try not to pull too hard though, you might end up choking me." Mordred added, not staring up at the Chimchar. This wasn't as good of an option as holding hands, he knew. One slip, and the monkey could force him down the abyss with no chance of recovering before they hit the bottom. And if that didn't kill him, then the amount of force put on his throat would. If he fell, there was a chance the fire type could lose grip of the fabric, but Peter wouldn't be able to cross in the darkness and would either fall after him or be stuck.
