PostSubject: Glorified Toddlers   Wed Nov 22, 2017 4:56 am

First topic message reminder :

A center of trade and tourism, abundant with attractions and widely known for its warm and inviting atmosphere: Grassveil. Even in the gloom of recent world events, with the overhanging sheet of grey hiding away the sky, this town still seemed to bustle with a refreshing energy. If the residents were bothered, it certainly didn't stop most of them from living their lives, or at least, it didn't seem so to Geo. Not that she was complaining, of course; she loved the area and all it had to offer. She spent a lot of time here, enjoying the scenery of such a happy little town, indulging in all it had to offer. Sometimes she'd go around to shops and see if there was anything to new, or perhaps just revisit places she'd already been to. Other times, she'd go around the guild, considering joining yet again; something always ended up stopping her, but perhaps that was her own lack of confidence. She'd tried quite a few times to find partners to join with, but it never seemed to stick, and she was nervous about joining on her own. However, since evolving, she had grown a great deal more content with herself, and she was starting to want to give it another go.

But, not today.

Today, she was looking to relax and have some fun, whatever that entailed. There were plenty of ways to entertain oneself in Grassveil; perhaps she'd go find someone to chat with, or maybe she'd just head off to the pond to kick back and relax. One thing was for certain: she didn't feel like doing any training on this day, as she'd done more than enough of that lately. Today was a day for herself, one which she hoped to find company for. She had always been sociable, and it was no accident that she was in such a great place for meeting friendly new faces. She was here to enjoy herself, sure, but she was hoping to find some new friends if she could. For some reason, those didn't seem to last too often, which was perhaps due to her doing a lot of meeting other 'mon out in the wilderness and never managing to ask where they lived or set up another meeting. She had trouble finding them again, simply put, and it was kind of hard to find more when she was out training in the forest all the time.

Thus, here she was, wandering the streets of Grassveil Town, searching for anyone or anything that caught her eye. As of yet, she had found nothing in particular, but she was keeping her eyes peeled for any interesting-looking individuals or situations. Maybe she could try, like, an ice cream shop or something. Anyone hanging out at a place selling ice cream had to be nice, right? Or like, maybe she could find a training buddy over at the dojo! Ooh, ooh, or maybe she could find some guild members to hang out with; maybe it'd help get her nerve up! The possibilities were just endless!

Osiris wanted to protest when she called him a little delinquent, but considering the circumstances, it wasn't as if she was wrong. In hindsight, if electing not to waste his days sitting in a stuffy classroom made him one, then he'd happily own it. Still, though, the sylveon had more to say - she wanted to actually hang out. It was almost surreal if he put aside the whole jumpscare prank. Osiris liked girls, sure, but he'd never really talked to any like this before. Aside from his mom, which didn't count. He liked to imagine himself as cool and confident when he daydreamed about his interactions with the few classmates at school he'd had passing crushes on, but he could never really bring himself to make those daydreams a reality and approach them. Had she not loosened him up, so to speak, by shocking the hell out of him, he was sure he'd be a stuttering wreck at the moment. Or at least considerably more nervous. Despite the restless itchy feeling under his scales that he figured was just leftover adrenaline, he was comfortable with the person next to him.

It was a hell of a way to break the ice. And thinking about it, he really didn't have anything against her - she was actually turning out to be pretty cool. He didn't know what he expected when he told her that he was playing hooky, but she went along with it like there was no issue, like she thought nothing of it. Osiris didn't know if there was anyone in his life who would be that at ease with his spur-of-the-moment decision to be a delinquent. "If you want, then sure! I didn't really have anything planned, though..." It wasn't hard for him to say yes after he thought about it. Without looking back to see if she would follow, Osiris slithered forward, making his way back to the middle of the street where he'd left his satchel. Thankfully, no one decided to nick it or mess with it in any way; it lay exactly where he'd been, the flap over it only slightly off-kilter from where he'd been fiddling with it.

Leisurely clearing the distance between him and his bag, Osiris fastened the flap close and wriggled through the strap, fastening it so he could drag it alongside him as he made his way. "Was there somewhere you wanted to go, maybe? I know where most of the hotspots are, so you can count on me." He wondered, with some vague excited feeling rising up in him, if maybe this other Pokémon was from out of town. Grassveil did attract a lot of travelers, as it was one of the more populated settlements and boasted some very impressive attractions. If she was a wanderer, then she'd probably seen a lot of the world! Or at least more than him, at any rate. Forget just interesting - if she was a traveler, then he had to get to know her.

Geo would have smiled at the dratini's agreement if she weren't already doing that.  Without any persuasion necessary, they were suddenly each other's company for the day.  Osiris had apparently escaped school and gone out into town without even having any goals in mind, which Geo with the honor of picking where to go.  She had a few ideas; perhaps more than her new friend, but still no concrete plans of her own.  Osiris knew his way around town pretty well, so he claimed, but that wasn't helping much in the way of picking a destination.  Actually, Geo was unsure of how much help it was in general, as she also knew her way around well enough.  It wasn't as if she was some tourist; she had been around the Grassveil area plenty, and while she didn't know every nook and cranny of the place, she was confident enough in her ability to navigate at least well enough to get here she wanted to go.  However, she didn't want to say that for fear of hurting her new friend's feelings by brushing him off when he thought he could help.

Besides, maybe he would lead somewhere she had yet to go herself, and maybe she'd see something new thanks to that.  Either way, she didn't care much who led the way, so if it made the kid happy... well, if her new friend was happy, then so was she!  She got up and followed along behind him without complaint, stopping only when he did the same; she could see that he had only gone out to pick up his stuff and wasn't planning on leaving yet, but she stuck close to him all the same.  "Well, I was thinking about getting some ice cream, then maybe finding something fun to do, like..." she explained without giving any exact suggestions, hoping to give the dratini the floor to guide her wherever he decided would be good.  She wanted to give him some examples of things she thought seemed fun, but a lot of them required... exploring... like, outside of town.  She doubted some school escapee would be allowed to leave for Pecha forest or anything of the sort, and she didn't want to get him in trouble or hurt or anything by dragging him along on an adventure.

But... what else was there to do?  Visit the guild, or maybe go chill out at the pond?  Surely, even the most sheltered child would be allowed to go there, she figured.  Anyway, she still wasn't sure how young he even was; she didn't really do the whole "school" thing, so she didn't know how long 'mon were usually stuck with it.  "Um, the most fun thing I can think of is heading out to the forest.  B-but if you can't go out there, we can do whatever!" she spoke, admitting to her preference in entertainment sources before hurriedly clarifying that she was alright doing anything the dratini wanted to do.  She didn't think about how implying maybe he wasn't allowed to go to the forest might have been a bit offensive to him, especially if it wasn't true.  She really didn't mean any harm with the remark, though; she was just trying to make sure not to pressure someone into something they didn't want or weren't supposed to do.  She didn't know how she felt about the idea of being a bad influence, and she wasn't ready to find out.  Besides, they had plenty of time to figure out how to spend the day while going out for ice cream!  Or... well, that was assuming Osiris even wanted to do that; maybe he didn't like sweets, for all the sylveon knew.

His new company for the day followed him without a word, fortunately, padding along right alongside him. It seemed that all she really wanted was, of all things, some ice-cream and a fun time. Which, to be fair, was an absolutely great way to spend an afternoon. Ice cream for lunch was such an incredibly wicked idea; how had it not occurred to him at this point? Osiris nodded enthusiastically at her suggestion, curling around in a lazy circle while they tried to figure out how to spend the day. Still, he grew a little bit trepid when his new acquaintance trailed off uncertainly, like her first idea of fun would be somehow taboo to him. From her perspective, it probably was; no doubt she was some kind of super cool traveler, only stopping by Grassveil to restock on supplies or something. Her idea of fun was probably spelunking through dangerous mystery dungeons and having extra-dynamic battles with super strong wild Pokémon. And there was nothing in Grassveil half as cool as that. He knew that better than anyone, he figured. The dratini drooped down a little bit at the realization, idly wondering if she was about to come to the same conclusion and figure that her time was better spent elsewhere. That's the kind of thing that he'd rather do, at any rate...

But when Geo spoke again, he felt his spirits soar. Out into the forest? It wasn't quite a dramatic confrontation with a group of deadly outlaws, but it was more adventurous than anything he'd ever find in Grassveil! Osiris had only been there a couple of times, and the first time he'd gone he'd been escorted by his mom. Last time he'd been with a friend, and they'd had a blast! The kinds of things that he'd be able to do with a real adventurer, though, would completely blow those things out of the water. They'd explore, or find treasure, or fight against wild Pokémon, or a thousand different things! Or all of them - at the same time! "Yes," he breathed in excitement, an eager smile growing on his face. How much cooler could this girl possibly get? She was spontaneous, she was friendly and easy-going, and her idea of a fun time was ice-cream and adventure! "That sounds great! I can definitely go out to the forest with you!

"I've only been a handful of times, really, but I've had fun every time." It was a little bit of a white lie, but he figured it wouldn't hurt to lead her on and make her think he'd been out there more than he actually had. Truthfully, he'd had plenty of opportunities to go out by himself since his mother kept him on a mercifully long leash, but even he knew that even the smaller mystery dungeons were nothing to trifle with. He'd gone once, with his mother who was evolved and another time with a strong friend, and the only reason he hadn't gone again was that he was too weak by himself... as shameful as it sounded. But with a real, bonafide traveler at his side? Not only would he get to see more of the forest, but he'd probably get a lot stronger in the process! "But, uh - ice cream first, right?"

Geo was surprised, to say the least, by her new friend's unexpected level of interest in the mere mention of heading out to the forest.  Sure, she had considered the possibility that he would be interested, but the dratini actually seemed pretty hyped at the thought of an adventure.  So, he was skipping school to mess around in town, and he seemed in love with the idea of adventure, both domestic and exotic.  He was thrilled at the prospect of something as simple as ice cream, and Geo appreciated his appreciation for the little things in life, but more importantly, he actually wanted to go to the forest as well.  The sylveon had been worried about advocating too strongly for the idea and peer-pressuring her new friend into doing something he didn't want to do, but if anything, it was the other way around!  Not to say she she had suddenly changed her mind and no longer felt up for a little adventure; it was just that Osiris was advocating quite insistently for it now that it had been suggested, which wasn't something she had predicted.

Aside from the two clearly sharing some interests so far, Geo also liked the dratini's personality, or at least what she had gleamed of it thus far.  He wasn't too serious and was very obviously the polar opposite of all-work-no-play; and he could take a joke, even from a stranger.  It was starting to seem like Osiris was a perfect candidate for the friend Geo had been looking for, and he even lived in Grassveil, so he wouldn't be too hard to meet up with again.  But the sylveon was getting ahead of herself with such thoughts, as the two had only been talking for a short time and still barely knew each other.  The day would determine if there was anything worth pursuing, she supposed, but she was starting to get her hopes up just a little bit.  In truth, she was... a bit lonely, having made no real lasting friends since beginning her journey.  All things considered, she hadn't really gone on much of a "journey" yet either, mostly sticking around Grassveil and the neighboring dungeons.  Getting some sweets and going for a walk in the forest wouldn't exactly do much to change that, but it was better than nothing.

"Definitely," the sylveon nodded with a grin in agreement with prioritizing ice cream.  It was a nice day to just sit back and enjoy something sweet... but, there was still the matter of picking a place to buy from... which she was giving to Osiris, since he seemed proud of his ability to be a "guide."  "So, where to?" Geo questioned, giving the dratini the floor to be her guide even though she was in no need of one.  She wasn't sure why he had assumed she would need one in the first place, but it didn't offend her.  Besides, not knowing where she would end up at was exciting in a way, and give her just a bit more insight on the topic of this little dragon.  Where would he lead her, and would the place suck?  Would he pick a shop with some gimmick, or maybe just a general cafe or something that happened to sell ice cream?  Or would he pick a legit ice cream specialist, and if so, would he go for an expensive one?  Going for something pricey would be a testament to either his generosity or selfishness, all depending on who he expected to be paying for it.

Actually, he was probably assuming they would both pay for their own.  Geo, on the other hand, wanted it to be her treat... unless her new friend was actually rich.

In which case she wanted him to buy her a Happy Meal and a diamond necklace.  She liked sparkly things resembling treasure, and it... wasn't out of line for her to wear something like that, she figured.

Osiris hummed thoughtfully after Geo's confirmation, the two of them both agreeing to prioritize a frosty treat over exploring the forest. The thought sounded blasphemous, but really, it was a difficult choice. Not so much in the present situation, as he hadn't eaten lunch and he doubted that she had either, but just the sound of it.... ice cream, or adventure. The dratini snorted absentmindedly, tilting his head as he considered the options in front of him. Or, really, the lack of options. Geo had taken him up on his offer for directions and was gracious enough to allow him to pick the ice cream spot they'd go to. Problem was that Osiris didn't exactly know many ice cream spots. He'd heard of the reputable ones, but he and his mother only frequented one in particular. "Hmm," The dratini raised his head up as high as he could (which wasn't very, at all) and tried to get a sense for where exactly he was. He'd make a break in the right direction once he decided to flee the schoolhouse, so in relation to where they were now, the trip over wouldn't but a few minutes. "I know a good stall, I think, but it's a bit of a walk.

"Ice cream's great, though, and they're really nice people." In a leisurely fashion, the dratini drooped his head back down to nose through his satchel, nudging the flap open and sticking his head in the sizable bag. It wasn't particularly large... but it wasn't any bigger than him. For a few long moments, the dratini rustled his head around inside as if looking for something. After worming about for just long enough for it to grow awkward, presumably checking how much Poké he had left over from his allowance, he withdrew once more with an eager grin pasted on his snout. It was as he had hoped; he had enough for at least a couple servings. Asking if she was going to buy her own was probably rude, but he maybe had enough to cover the both of them in case that wasn't the case.
"Shall we?"

Nestled deep, deep somewhere within the recesses of his mind, Osiris idly wondered if this could be considered a date.

It took the selected guide a moment to pick a place despite how confident he seemed to be in his ability to navigate town. However, in the end, he still seemed able to select a shop he thought would be good; one which he implied wasn't exactly nearby, but that just meant it must have been really good. Why else would he want to go out of his way to walk the distance when there were other places readily available? Geo now had her hopes high, expecting some really spectacular ice cream since she could see no other reason for walking longer than necessary. She wasn't sure where they would be going despite her own familiarity with Grassveil; it wasn't like she had gone to every single store and stall in the whole town, and they had a tendency to change over time anyway. Regardless, her new friend seemed to like ice cream just as much as she did, so she trusted he would know the difference between good and bad on this front. A plus to the walk was that they would have more time to chat and get to know each other, which she wasn't going to complain about.

Since Osiris had asked, she responded: "We shall." Geo felt fancy and kind of stupid talking like that, but it was stupid in a fun way. She wondered if the dratini felt the same way or if he was just trying to... like... be polite or something. Of course, she didn't ask; it seemed unnecessary to seek clarity in whether someone was trying to have fun or be nice, since the two often coincided. In the end, it seemed like a friendly gesture either way, and the sylveon accepted it with a happy nod before getting moving, expecting her company to lead the way. She wondered if the place he'd picked out would sell anything other than ice cream, like maybe some other sweets, or just food in general? Maybe she'd get something to actually satisfy her hunger, and she could get the dratini something too. If they were going to be spending the rest of the day out and about in the forest, it seemed like a good idea to get some food in them other than a bunch of frozen sugar. Then again, they would probably be able to find some apples or berries or something once they got out in the woodland, so it wasn't a big deal either way.

"So, playing hooky, huh? If you don't want to be in school, why go in the first place?" she questioned, trying to keep the conversation going while striving to get to know Osiris a bit better. Geo didn't have any personal interest in formal education since her desired occupation was that of an expert ninja explorer. She wasn't trying to convince someone out of getting a proper education that would probably help with getting a legitimate job, but... there were a lot of options that didn't require going to school, like joining the police or a guild, or just being a solo explorer! She couldn't imagine herself sitting in front of a teacher every day learning boring things that would never help her with her goals or with anything at all; but for all she knew, Osiris' situation was nothing like hers. Maybe he actually wanted the education and was planning on doing something with it, but just... wanted a break every once in a while. That was understandable too and, honestly, seemed a bit more likely.

Geo's playfully pompous acceptation of his prompt had the dratini smiling like an idiot. Immediately, he made to slither forward as dignified as he could, which, considering he was a snake, wasn't very dignified. Still, he was there to lead the way to ice cream, which was a very dignified job. He had to take it seriously, right? The entire situation had him brimming with excitement, and he knew deep down that his decision to play hooky was probably the best decision he'd ever made. Not only was he out and about in a part of town that he'd never truly appreciated, but he'd met a new friend! And not only was this friend fun and cool, but she was also a girl and a traveler. Probably. The jury was still out on the latter, but between how she acted and how she looked, he was sure of everything else. Even if she was from out of town, the ease with which she put traveling to the forest told a story; she wasn't shy about going out and about, and it probably pretty easy for her! She seemed confident in herself and she had snuck up on him with an ease that was probably really useful for sneaking around criminals and ferals alike.

He wondered for a moment how strong she was. He'd never really heard of sylveon before, so he didn't know much about her on that front. For all he knew, she could be a basic Pokémon or a fully evolved one! The name rung a bit of a bell, though, but even after so long in Geo's presence he still couldn't place it. It'd be something to ask after later if nothing else. If he lasted that long. He wanted so very much not to upset her, as she was not only a valuable person in that she likely had a lot to teach and show him, but she was also a girl and he was taking her out to ice cream. It felt dangerously like a date. Geo hadn't said anything about that, though, and he had to wonder if it occurred to her, either. Surreptitiously, Osiris tried to sneak a glance at the sylveon's profile to see if there were any thoughts obvious on her face, but to his surprise, she beat him to the punch with a question.

How on earth did he tell this girl that he went to school because him mom made him go? He didn't want to be dishonest, but it was also... kind of super embarrassing that he was doing this thing that he didn't enjoy at all. He wasn't even sure how he could put an education to use later on in life - every time he tried to picture himself as a scholar or a librarian or a teacher, the mental picture had him wincing. But on the other hand, he didn't really know what he wanted to do. The guild seemed very exciting and no doubt they'd be interested in a prospective dragon, but his mother had mentioned his elusive father working there and the thought of meeting him made Osiris feel uneasy. And striking out on his own... well, he just didn't think he was strong enough for that yet. Shame pooled in his stomach as he mentally admitted it to himself, but it was simply how things were.

"It's uh... it's a little bit complicated, I guess. I don't really want to go. It's stuffy and boring and I don't enjoy it at all, but..." Really, the reason why he went was as clear as day when he thought about it. His mother. It wasn't even so much that she made him go as he knew it just meant a lot to her. For him to be educated and learned in ways that other Pokémon out in the world weren't - for him to take advantage of this opportunity in front of him and use it to better himself. But what was all of that in the face of the feelings of unease and discontent building up inside him? He was wasting his time nosing through old books when he could be getting stronger! Or anything else, really. "My mom likes it when I go, so I guess that's the reason."

As Geo had feared, it seemed this was somewhat of a sensitive topic for her new friend. At the very least, he looked like he was having trouble giving a straight answer, starting off with "It's complicated." That was always a bad sign, and when someone said something was complicated, that usually just meant it was embarrassing or would make them look bad. Sure enough, Osiris went on to explain that he went to school mostly because his mom "liked it," which Geo took to mean that she told him to go and he had to listen since he presumably lived with her. Even if he was actually just doing it to make her happy rather than being forced, his hesitance to just say it showed that he wasn't too proud of this fact. He probably feared that he now looked like some kid still living at home with his mom, going to school and not allowed to do anything else. He kind of did, but the sylveon really didn't care too much about any of that; the only thing that was important to her was that he seemed friendly and fun.

Actually, it was cute that this kid went to school to make his mom happy, or at least, claimed he did. Either he was really nice or just flustered enough about his situation to kind of lie, but it was adorable regardless. It was enough to elicit a little giggle from Geo, but she quickly suppressed it out of fear that she would further embarrass the mighty dragon and hurt his pride. "That's sweet," she remarked in an attempt to show she really thought well of him for this revelation. She couldn't think of much more to say in the moment, but she didn't want to let the conversation die and make her companion have to keep it going. Since Osiris had gone and been so honest about his situation, she figured it was only right for her to respond with a little bit about herself, too. But what was there for her to say aside from how her parents hadn't made her go to school? She didn't want to be a bore, but her situation wasn't really much more interesting than the dratini's.

"My family never really made me go to school, and I've wanted to be like my uncle for a really long time, so... I guess they just went with that," she spoke, sharing her own experience with school; or, more accurately, her lack of experience. She knew how to fight and how to survive, and that was all she needed in order to do what she wanted to do. "I don't care about learning things I'll never use. I want to see the world," she added on so as to clarify what it was she wanted to do with her life. It had taken a second for it to occur to her that "I want to be like my uncle" probably wouldn't explain much to someone who didn't know who Gli was. Hopefully, this elaboration would serve well enough to make it obvious what she wanted to be... or at least, part of it. She had almost forgotten in the moment, but there were actually two things she wanted to do. Fortunately, though, they happened to coincide quite nicely, allowing her to pursue both at the same time.

Without warning, the sylveon suddenly rushed forward, leaping over the dratini and being careful to land gracefully in front of him. She gave a clockwise spin and pulled her joy ribbon back up around her mouth before spreading her legs across the ground and freezing, striking a pose. Right side facing toward the serpent, she gave a confident, fierce glare through the fabric covering her mouth and forehead; meanwhile, her lower set of feelers wrapped around her neck and draped themselves down in front of her like a scarf, and the other set on her ear went limp like a long strip of fabric tied to her as an edgy fashion statement. She didn't have full conscious control over the appendages yet, but they really seemed to know what they were doing without any input from her. She took a breath, really hoping she looked cool.

"And be a ninja!"

Osiris had shared his reason for going to school, baring his shame for this cool girl to witness - the fact that he went to school just because... well, because he lived at home and his mom wanted him to go! He was sure that if he went to her honestly and talked to her about it, explained that he wanted to do something else, that she'd be completely willing to let him try something different. But he hadn't done so yet. He hadn't even considered it, let alone worked up the courage to actually give it a shot. The dratini wasn't really ashamed of the reason why he went, but just the fact that he went at all. He didn't belong there, and he felt like it should be so much more obvious than it appeared - so far, the only person in his life to not care whether or not he took schooling seriously was this pretty (albeit a bit strange) girl that he met in the town streets. He felt no small amount of trepidation waiting for her reaction.

He didn't know what he was expecting, but it sure wasn't a dainty little giggle. He felt shocked at the sound, first, actually turning to look at her as he wasn't quite sure he heard right. But then it sunk in, and his ear fins burnt with a red-hot something that he'd never quite felt before, but he knew instantly that he didn't like it. Still, it was assuaged quickly by Geo mastering herself and calling his reason (excuse) sweet. Which, you know, it felt good to hear, but he still felt bad about it. The serpentine dragon was still busy wallowing in his own feelings when Geo started speaking again, actually electing to open up about her own situation in the sudden silence of... well, of Osiris feeling bad for himself. As soon as he himself realized it, he shook himself out of his reverie, blinking rapidly for a few instants before focusing on the story that the sylveon was telling.

She'd never been made to go to school, which was pretty cool he thought, and she had an uncle to strive to be like. It was cool to hear, and he allowed himself to wonder idly for just a few moments what it must have been like to have a father figure like that to strive to be like, but it was what Geo said next that really resonated with him. I don't care about learning things I'll never use. I want to see the world. That... that hit the nail on the head, for him. Less so the world part, but definitely the first part. He'd yet to really come to an understanding as to what he wanted, but seeing as how most of his ideas revolved around adventure or the like, then getting strong was a good first goal anyway. As her statement sunk into him, he found himself nodding fervently along with what she'd said muttering a hushed agreement under his breath. "That... yes. Exactly that." Running into this girl truly had been the best thing to happen to him in... a long time. Perhaps ever.

Still, as he was preoccupied with his internal thinking, he was caught completely unprepared when Geo leaped forward into the air. Almost instinctively, his head followed her trajectory through the air, his mouth opening in silent shock as she landed gracefully. Still, she never stopped moving, and he had only begun to feel the first stirrings of confusion when she spun around, striking a pose in front of him with her ribbon tied around her mouth like - like a ninja. Like she'd been when she had scared the piss out of him! The ribbon-like things that were attached to her that moved earlier also moved this time to compliment her look, and by the time they had he was granted the image of a sylveon wearing a headband with its ties billowing behind it dramatically, donning a mask and a flowing scarf. Despite the effort that was put into her articles of... clothing, though, it was Geo's eyes that impressed him the most. The amount of confidence and ferocity in her eyes was startling - if he had any doubts about this Pokémon being strong before, then they were all gone now. He heard, dimly, her proclamation of wanting to be a ninja in addition to seeing the world.

"A ninja. Wow." In the ensuing silence, he didn't know what to say. Should he... cheer? Remark on how impressive she was? Pokémon with actual hands had a gesture for this kind of situation, where they'd take their hands and smack them together as if to somehow convey respect and awe, but he had no such options! Instead, he settled for an easygoing smile and wide eyes, trying to properly show how much the little display had astonished him. Which it had. They were in the middle of a perfectly normal conversation before Geo had, er, struck a pose. "I mean - I agree! Totally! I don't know anything about ninjas, but... I know that feeling. I want that, too."

Geo held her stance firmly as she awaited a response, a mixture of fear and excitement inviting itself into her heart. She was afraid her new friend wouldn't think she was cool despite her best efforts, but at the same time, she was hopeful that he would. After the initial response, she let out a breath she didn't realize she was holding in, and when the dratini continued on to agree with her, she finally allowed herself to relax and shift back to her normal posture. Her feelers sprang back to life with the ones around her neck pulling the ribbon down from around her mouth. Her fierce stare melted away to reveal a giddy smile of satisfaction that she had successfully impressed Osiris. At that, he agreed with her; not on being a ninja in specific, but with the general sentiment. Did he want to be an explorer too, then, or did he just agree with the idea of not going to school? The sylveon didn't know how she felt about the thought that she was unintentionally convincing some kid to abandon his potential future without a plan for what he would do with this freedom.

But for now, that didn't seem like the most pressing matter; shallow as it was, Geo cared more about ice cream than trying to make sure she wasn't leading someone into a bad decision. "Well, we can have ourselves a little adventure and give you a taste of freedom," she responded, standing idly in wait for the dratini continue forward and reclaim his position as the leader. She didn't want to give too much encouragement for him to bail on his schooling, though she would agree if he decided on his own that that was what he wanted to do. If this little dragon wanted to spread his metaphorical wings and fly, then Geo was totally in his corner! Well, at least, assuming this little outing actually went somewhere and wouldn't be their first and last meeting. She wasn't worried, what with how unbelievably well things were going so far, but the possibility was still there. They had known each other for all of ten minutes, after all, so while they seemed to be getting along swimmingly, it was entirely plausible that it would all go horribly wrong at some point.

"But first, ice cream! Right?" she added on, wanting to make sure they were still in agreement on what their first priority was. She wasn't trying to rush him, but she was eager to get to the sweets, and it wasn't like they couldn't keep talking once they got there. She didn't need school to know basic math: a conversation plus ice cream was greater than just a conversation. Despite this, though, she actually was starting to want to get this over with quickly, even in regards to getting their delicious frozen snack. She was trying not to show it, but the more she talked to Osiris, the more she wanted to go out explore the forest with him. He seemed to feel the same as her on the topic of adventure, which made her crave to go on one with him and see how it went. She figured the kid's mom probably wouldn't like him going to any far-off, dangerous places, but... maybe they could make it a regular thing, just roaming around the places near Grassveil. They were somewhat safe, and even assuming he was totally incapable of taking care of himself, she could probably look out for him. She was far from the powerful ninja she wanted to be, but most of the things in the Pecha and Shadowhue forests weren't particularly threatening.

Even if they did run into some kind of real trouble, there would probably be some other friendly faces wandering through, what with how popular Grassveil and its surroundings were. Odds are they would just be able to call for help and someone would come running, and that was assuming they ran into something they couldn't handle on their own in the first place. With the amount of things that would have to go wrong for them to end up in danger... well, they were probably about as safe just wandering around town. In other words, they were very safe either way, at least in Geo's eyes. Maybe it was a bit of a stretch to say that the forested land surrounding Grassveil was just as safe as the town itself, but she felt it was at least comparable enough that she didn't need to worry, assuming they came prepared.

Truthfully, Osiris was getting a bit worried. How long did was she going to hold that pose for - oh, there she went. Amusingly enough, the sylveon let out a rushed breath of air as she relaxed and dropped her pose. Had she been holding her breath for additional effect? The thought had the smile on his snout growing, and as Geo readjusted her ribbon and pasted on a joyful smile, he felt similar feelings rise up within him. She was turning out to be such a relatable person - was she local, or was that too rude to ask? He'd never seen her around before, but Grassveil's population was also very impressive, and Osiris didn't exactly get out as much as he wanted to. If the dratini had it his way, then he'd be patrolling the forests both daily, getting stronger so that when the day came that he'd make his choice between striking out or becoming a Guild member, he'd be well prepared for it. But instead, he spent his time after school either slithering around town in an attempt to get away from home, or he just laid about in his room like a lazy snake. But Geo seemed so animated, and poised, and confident. He had to wonder where it all came from - where she came from. Had she seen the rest of the world? Was she a Guild member like his dad, or was she some kind of independent traveler? No matter what, he'd be thrilled, as she was a breath of fresh air in the admittedly repetitive cycle of his life. And not only was she that, but her interests clearly coaligned with his. There were so many things that she could teach him!

His smile grew even wider when she all but confirmed his feelings, waiting for him to slither forward and resume guiding them through the streets. But ice cream came first, apparently! He supposed he couldn't really blame her. Lunchtime was rapidly approaching if it wasn't that already, and on a day like this, a frosty treat would not go unappreciated. The dratini nodded clumsily, his headband jostling forward a bit during the motion of it. Determinedly, he slithered back in front of her and resumed his role with aplomb, wriggling through the streets with a sense of familiarity that could only be explained by a childhood spent in the town. "Yeah, yes, of course! Sorry we got side-tracked there."

He wasn't sorry at all, in fact. That little interaction had told him all he needed to know about Geo, as far as he was concerned.

At the rate they'd been moving and the relatively close proximity of his chosen ice-cream stand, they were upon their destination faster than he'd expected. Perhaps the animated aura that was ever present in Geo had rubbed off on him because as he led them around the corner, he was almost shocked despite himself when he laid eyes on his chosen destination. That only lasted long enough for it to process that he was there, with Geo, in the middle of the afternoon when he should be at school and he was about to get ice cream. The dratini's grin turned wicked as he slithered forward with renewed vigor, twisting around a few wandering Pokémon as he rapidly approached a stall on the side of the street.

Calling it a stall was actually a bit generous, in hindsight. Moreso it was a truly impressively sized cart, with a tent prostrated behind it presumably for storage purposes. Above the cart, held aloft by two poles attached to it below, was a wooden sign with the words Berry On Top drawn in enthusiastic red coloring. Behind it stood a jynx, taking the order of a particularly impatient munchlax with a respectable amount of grace. Still, there were quite a number of happy customers enjoying cones and bowls at a handful picnic tables situated in front of the establishment, separated by a small line of three Pokémon waiting for their chance to order. By all appearances, it appeared to be a humble, if surprisingly successful, ice cream stall. For his part, Osiris wrinkled his brow when he caught sight of the line, looking back at the sylveon presumably behind him as if to complain, before visually thinking better of it and shaking his head.

"Well, this is it. Berry On Top's probably my favorite spot for ice-cream, but they don't do much other than uh... well, other than berries and ice cream." Suddenly, he was overcome by a surge of fear. Was... Was this spot a little less luxurious than Geo'd been hoping for? It was the first (and only) ice cream stall he knew of that was even close by, but now that he was taking a look at it a second time, it didn't exactly appear visually impressive. If this was supposed to be his first date, then he had just screwed it up royally! Girls liked to be taken places that were expensive, not... not homey! Everyone knew that! "I mean, we can go somewhere else if you want something different?"

Despite the phrasing of his offer, it came out sounding much more like a question than anything else. Panic and indecision wracked the serpent's frame, and he waited wth bated breath what kind of verdict Geo would give.

With the zealous agreement of the dratini, the two were off on their quest for ice cream. Geo loved how excited he see seemed to get over everything, much preferring that kind of energy to a lack thereof. It wasn't as if she hated being around someone with a more calm and collected demeanor, but they tended to be less fun, and today, she was looking for fun. Perhaps if she had just wanted to have some deep, important talk, she would have sought out someone more serene, but even then, it would have been someone she was already acquainted with. In terms of hanging out with total strangers, she preferred childish and energetic over all else, and so this little dragon-worm-thing was the perfect fit for her. It helped that they seemed to like a lot of the same things, or at least, they both liked sweets and adventure. Apparently, they had a shared dislike for boring things like school as well, and everything was just seeming more and more perfect by the minute. They even had the same fashion sense, both carrying around a headband, and of the same color!

Actually, come to think of it, Osiris' headband seemed to have some kind of marking on it. Geo's own band had one as well, and while it was very different in a lot of ways, it had a meaning. She wondered if this dratini's had any meaning to it, or if it was just designed to look cool. That would have to be a conversation for later, though, as they seemed to have finally come upon the kid's shop of choice. Geo wouldn't have been sure if not for the immediate confirmation from her new friend; he stated the obvious and gave her the name of the place despite it being written pretty clearly on the sign above the cart, then went on to explain that it was a specialty shop of sorts. It didn't seem like much at a glance, but a lot of Grassveil's shops were run by freelancers with big dreams and little money to back their ambitions up, so this was no surprise. Plenty of places in town looked low in quality, but in reality, their workers generally worked very hard to provide the best services they could; they were all passionate in what they did, and that was far more important than any fancy store setup.

It helped that this place apparently specialized in ice cream, which meant they surely knew what they were doing. Of course, this also meant Geo would not get her wish of having something to go along with her treat, but hey, she wasn't going to complain as long as it was good! Actually, she probably wouldn't complain either way due to how much it would probably hurt Osiris' feelings. He seemed so happy to be the one picking the spot, and if this was his choice, that had to mean he liked it, so turning it down seemed like it would be disappointing as well as insulting to him. But, that wasn't a concern since Geo had no desire to turn this place away before even giving it a chance, and besides, there was a line! It wasn't a very long line, but any line at all meant this shop had to have some level of popularity. That... also meant they would have to wait in line, but again, it wasn't too long, so she was fine with it. Besides, they could spend that time getting to know each other a little better, since that seemed about as important as actually getting the ice cream.

Still, while Geo was content with the store that had been selected, it seemed her friend was still a bit worried. Of course, she immediately jumped to snuff out any concern: "Nah, this is good. I've never been here before." She smiled down at the drake to show she was genuinely happy with his decision, then waited for him to lead the way into the line. She was being honest in that she had never been here, and that was surprising since she liked to try new places every now and then. It was a good thing since it meant this would be a new experience; if nothing else, it definitely wouldn't be boring. Plus, how could they possibly mess up ice cream? And... well, they did have berries too, so that was something, even if it didn't quite qualify as a meal. And maybe if the day went well, they could come back and get a bite of real food later! But Geo tried not to think so far into the future, knowing that getting ahead of herself could lead to disappointment. Things seemed to be going well, but even so, a kid who lived with his mom and went to school... probably had a curfew. He probably wouldn't be allowed to stay out long enough to do much more than what they already had planned.

Osiris slumped with relief at his companion's reassurance that she didn't think poorly of his choice. He didn't have many options in the first place, really, but it should have occurred to him that if he was going out for a treat with a girl then he should have chosen somewhere nice! It was a credit to Geo that she wasn't opposed to a more, er, humble establishment, of course, but he still couldn't fathom his own foolishness. Or thoughtlessness, really; he didn't make the realization, and he didn't plan accordingly. Of course, this entire encounter was very spur-of-the-moment and carefree, so it wasn't as if he was lacking for reasons. With a visible sense of relief and sheepishness, the dratini nodded at Geo's words and slithered forward, leading the pair of Pokémon closer to the stall. On the plus side, though, Berry On Top wasn't the worst place they could get a frosty treat for lunch; it was nutritious, in a way! Or at least as nutritious as ice cream would get. The young serpent's mind's eye flashed back to the other times he had eaten here, images of scoops and scoops of flavorful ice cream further accented by crushed berries. And decently cheap, to boot.

He himself suspected that had something to do with the ease in which the owners could produce their product, but getting a cone or even a bowl was only a little bit more expensive than going out to purchase the berries by themselves, to say nothing of the ice cream. If Geo was unbothered by the absence of class or decor that this place sported, then it wouldn't be a stretch to say she'd be impressed by the product. The dratini led the two into line, and he absently watched as a much happier looking munchlax trotted off with an impressively large bowl, taking a seat at the closest picnic table. The scene around them was chipper, of course. Pokémon on both sides of them happily indulged in the guilty pleasure of ice cream, chattering happily and looking very at peace with themselves. On the other hand, Osiris himself was growing nervous. So far, Geo had been very easy to please and a truly upstanding girl; he did not want to mess anything up. But what was he supposed to say to her, now that they were waiting in line wrapped up in a sudden silence? Knowing her, she'd be more than comfortable in it, but he couldn't help but get anxious. He wanted to ask more about her, find out if she lived in town or if she traveled around often, but he was too worried that it would come off as weird to ask. They'd only just met, after all, and maybe it was best to take such things slowly? Perhaps he could try and breach a topic that she had already spoken about...

"So, you're... a ninja?" It was the only line of conversation he was willing to grasp at, honestly. Talking about her family seemed pushy, and if the shoe were on the other foot and she had asked him about his, he wasn't sure he'd want to talk about it. Not that there was much to tell, honestly; he lived at home with his mother and his father worked at the guild. Apparently. Not that he'd ever met or even seen him. He'd be lying if he said he wasn't at least a little bit curious about this uncle figure of Geo's, and what he must have been like to inspire her to be so... free. Taking a stab a perhaps related topic might get him closer to that, but honestly, he just wanted to know more in general about the girl next to him. "Or a ninja-in-training? Howssat work?

In agreement, the two moved to take their place in line at this... "Berry On Top" establishment.  The name was kind of adorable and definitely memorable.  Geo, for one, was looking forward to trying out this new place she had never gone to, hopes held high that it would be as good as her new friend seemed to think it was.  The two seemed so harmonious so far, their views lining up on everything, so she saw no reason to doubt she would like this ice cream if Osiris vouched for it.  The line was short and already moving before they could even get situated in their spot, promising a short wait for their treat.  Geo watched a munchlax walk away with a pile of ice cream that looked big enough to make her sick; she kind of envied them for being able to eat so much.  Granted, it came with the downside of having to evolve into a snorlax, but it seemed like fun up until that point.  She liked to eat, especially when it came to sweets, but she had learned the hard way that too much of a good thing could be very bad.

She glanced down at her paws as she thought back on her poor decisions.  It was gluttony that had turned her into a sylveon in the first place, and at first, it was by no means a welcome consequence.  She had been devastated by the change and even thought that her gender had physically switched.  Of course she now knew that to be wrong and she was actually happy with how things had played out for her.  Since then, she felt confident and competent like never before; she was actually content with herself for whatever reason.  But still, it served as a lesson to her that she shouldn't be a glutton; it was an extreme case with an even more extreme result, but the point still stood that she'd ended up evolving into something she had never once wanted to be, all because she ate too much candy.  It was a bit of a wake-up call to the reality that she was too self-indulgent and needed to have a bit more restraint.  It turned out this was the best thing to ever happen to her, but what if her lack of restraint ended up getting her into some actual trouble?

But that was a worry for another time.  She thought more carefully about decisions before making them nowadays, and she was pretty sure she wouldn't receive divine punishment for deciding to get some ice cream.  Unless someone poisoned it.  Which they probably wouldn't.  She looked back to the very short line in front of her, then to the dratini beside her as he inquired about her... ninja... ness.  Actually, that was another thing her evolution had helped her with; she had been a poor excuse for even a rookie ninja before, but the change in her mindset had done a great deal to aid her.  The feelers helped too, mostly with things like running and jumping in high places.  But that wasn't what Osiris was asking about, and the sylveon didn't want to go off on a tangent about something boring or uncomfortable.  "Well... I train almost every day to act and fight like a proper ninja.  Stealthy and fierce and all that," she tried to explain herself without directly saying that she was entirely self-taught and kind of sort of not a real ninja.  She glanced down at herself again and realized how ridiculous her statement probably was.

"I guess I'm neither, looking like this," she added on with a light giggle and a smile, trying not to look embarrassed.  One thing that was admittedly bothersome about her species was that she didn't look intimidating in the slightest, and it was kind of hard to be stealthy when she was pink.  "You think I should get my fur dyed?" she questioned, presenting a possible solution to this issue of her very not-ninja-y appearance.  It was something she had actually been considering to make herself look cooler, so maybe it was abut time to get an outside opinion.

Legends be good, it seemed that Geo had taken to this line of conversation quickly. It wasn't enough that she was outgoing and fun and very cool, but apparently she even trained very regularly in order to get stronger! He had no idea how a ninja was supposed to train, but she probably used many different exercises. Likely stealth training, of course; his mind's eye immediately painted vivid pictures of the sylveon basked in the shadows of the nearby forests, her ribbon masking her face and her headband glinting dangerously. She had snuck up on him rather easily, after all. He certainly hoped she trained in order to be more sneaky because he didn't like to think of himself as easy prey. If she put forth a conscious effort to be a creature of stealth, then it would go a ways to balm his ego; there was no shame in getting surprised by a ninja, after all, was there? And there was no doubt in his mind that she was strong enough to make full use of the openings her sneakiness granted her; he was very glad that she hadn't been out to get him when she first surprised him. The dratini found himself caught up in his awe for the Pokémon next to him. He drew back as he looked up at the fairy type, his growing awe for her totally visible on his face. The effect was ruined somewhat as Geo looked down on herself almost self-consciously, remarking on her appearance with a self-deprecating giggle.

He didn't know what she had to be ashamed of. Pink was nothing bad, and it wasn't as if she needed to be a certain color to be a ninja. Hell, it could be worse; what if she was some other color, like an obnoxiously bright orange or something? No, the pink was cute on her, and he had learned firsthand how much of a surprise she could be despite her looks. Though, she did spring a rather interesting question on him. Osiris knew about dyeing, of course, and how some Pokémon chose to get their fur or scales changed to a different color. He'd never considered it, as he was naturally a very cool regal blue, but had he been born pink... He wasn't sure. The dratini liked pink on Geo, all things considered, and he had no reason to believe that it was a detriment to her chosen style at all. But the question still felt like something of a trap; what if he said yes, and she got mad at him? Or was she hoping for him to say no, to maybe help her make a decision that she'd been stewing on for a long time? The serpent's eyes narrowed as he gave his answer thought, hoping for the best scenario possible here.

"Hmm... well, I know you definitely snuck up on me somethin' fierce, so it's definitely not hurting!" The first step was to make it very clear that he had no problems with the way she looked. Calling her cute or anything like that was probably a bit too heavyhanded at this point, so he settled for simply reassuring her evident concerns about it hampering her ability. If he had a chance later, perhaps he could lay that on the table when they got a little bit more comfortable with each other, but for now, he was just focused on navigating the minefield that was this question. He wanted her to like him so he didn't want to overstep any boundaries here or be rude in any way. It was the safe way to go, he figured. The second step was putting the ball back in her court; he figured he had done his job by casting a positive light on her appearance, so he could let her take it from here. Or at least give him some time to think of a better thing to say, because he had a feeling that if he stewed on it for too long, he'd blurt out something totally stupid. "Do you like the way you look? That's probably the deciding factor, innit?"

There! Now, depending on how she responded to that, he could gauge how she felt about the issue. If she wanted to be some kind of midnight black ninja who blended into the shadows all cool-like, then he honestly thought she should go for it, but only if she wanted it. But the pink definitely had its own charm. He felt like it lended a certain something to the carefree and upbeat aura that was constantly surrounding the sylveon, and he had to absently wonder if that would change at all if she wore a darker color. Absently, the dratini slithered forward as the line grew one customer shorter, a bayleef carrying away her prize of two cones in her vines. They were next up, after this Pokémon in front of them ordered. In his focus on Geo and the conversation between them, he'd somehow not noticed the creature, but the both of them were currently behind a rather bulky heracross. Compared to the musclebound behemoth in front of him and the evidently trained and dangerous ninja next to him, he was starting to feel a little bit inadequate.
