First topic message reminder :

What would have perhaps been a somewhat tolerable area if not for its extreme saturation with water, Cattail Marsh served as a unique mix of unpleasant traits. It was difficult to navigate and made it practically impossible to avoid getting dirty, and the landscape wasn't particularly appealing to the eyes either. It was nothing special to look at, though some of the inhabitants supposedly had a tendency to put up a bit of a light show during the nights. It was daytime despite what the low light from the cloudy sky may have suggested, so the flashing lights of illumise and volbeat were nowhere to be found. Perhaps later into the day, this would change, but that remained to be seen. Besides, this wasn't a primary concern, at least for a certain blue-ringed umbreon who had made her way into the marsh.

Krikka despised the disgusting, soggy ground, and she knew it would only get worse as they ventured further into the environment and inevitably came across larger quantities of water. Thus far, she hadn't had to get her fur wet and dirty, but this would surely change in due time. She stared ahead into the awful marshland, silently dreading her decision to come here despite having reasons. She knew there was something going on in the area that had to do with one of the warring deities, but she had no interest in such matters. Furthermore, even if she had decided to take interest, she certainly wouldn't have chosen to assist Zygarde. But, alas, this day was not one for concern over someone else's battles. On this day, the umbreon had a different goal in mind.

What was her goal in coming to such a place that she despised? It wasn't to assist in the war, nor was it to see the light show. She had just acquired a new... asset, and, simply put, she wished to test his capabilities. A semi-aquatic environment seemed like a great place to test the limitations of a buizel. He had already proven that, at the moment, he was currently lacking in combat and skills in general. With this in mind, Krikka wanted to see if he could at least perform well in an environment tailored to him. She needed to get a good idea of his limitations before she could start making any efforts to help him overcome them. Plus, since she doubted it would be easy to get him to surpass her in anything on land, she was considering playing to his strengths and training him specifically for the water so as to give him a distinct use.

Krikka assumed this environment wouldn't be particularly unpleasant for Solus, but as for herself, she was not looking forward to it. She had stopped in front of a large body of water, knowing it was a sign that they were entering the true marsh. The water seemed shallow enough to walk through, at least for the time being, but that didn't mean she was eager to do so. She looked down at her reflection in the water in front of her, seeing her own displeasure with the situation. She then looked back ahead, hoping to find a way around getting herself dirty. Aside from cattails and the occasional tree, there wasn't much. "So, how well can you swim?" she questioned mostly out of curiosity. Swimming didn't seem required, at least at the current time, but she still wanted to know. Perhaps this was a question she should have asked before deciding to take her new buizel out for a test run. It wouldn't have mattered either way, though, as she fully intended to teach him how to swim if he couldn't already. Swimming was the best way for him to have an immediate use, so he needed to be good at it.

PostSubject: Re: Environmental Appropriation   Environmental Appropriation - Page 5 EmptySat Aug 26, 2017 8:08 am

Krikka wasn't surprised when Solus crept back over to her side like the pet he was. She was, however, a bit confused, as he seemed to know how place only when it was convenient to him. Or, perhaps more accurately, he only knew his place when it was more convenient to him. He was bright enough to know to be submissive and keep his mouth shut most of the time, and yet if there was an annoying remark to or stupid decision to be made, he always seemed to be eagerly waiting to do so. Experience alone surely told him that he would be punished for such behavior, and yet he did it anyway. This would have suggested it was just pride or stubbornness, but then, why would he be so submissive the majority of the time? It was possible that he was simply forgetting where he stood at times, but either way, it was odd and made it slightly difficult to predict his behavior. Not that Krikka cared too much, as she was content hitting him for anything she deemed "wrong" and perhaps even preferred it to him being entirely cooperative. After all, the vixen wasn't quite cruel enough to abuse an ally for absolutely no reason, but if he gave her an excuse to, then she could have a bit of fun.

Given she was no fool, she picked up on the underlying meaning of the buizel's remark about killing. She understood that her two little helpers did not like each other and would probably need to be managed to keep them from fighting, though she wondered if Solus even had it in him to partake in such a rivalry. As long as they didn't kill each other or let their bitterness get in the way of working, though, she didn't care much what they did. For all she cared, they could beat each other half to death as long as they did it on their own time. She didn't actually expect them to go so far, but she was prepared for the inevitability that the two would not get along very well. In fact, she was optimistic about it, hoping that perhaps they would put such motivation toward competition rather than pointless violence. Sure, she understood and could respect pointless violence, but she still preferred the option that meant they would work harder for her.

More interesting to the umbreon than such petty things, however, was that no one was objecting to her claim that they would be going to summon an evil god. The convenience in not having to elaborate or do any convincing was something she needed in the moment, as she was very upset, even for her standards. In hindsight, it was possible that the bug had simply been trying to be playful, or perhaps it had simply wanted to give some random travelers a gift. It was even possible that the thing had just accidentally dropped the orb, but she didn't care. It had hit her, no matter its intention, and in her eyes, that was more than enough justification. She didn't really need a reason to hit something in the first place, so even flimsy reasoning was unnecessary. She huffed and glanced in the direction of the volbeat, floating on the surface of the water, unmoving. This sight was satisfying, and yet... she still felt angry. It had been such a small problem, so getting to strike down the source of the annoyance should have been more than enough to sate her, but it did very little.

Trying to get her mind off what was annoying her, which was pretty much everything, Krikka directed her gaze back to Solus. Then, she turned to Lumpy as he spoke up, finally giving his own name: Goro. She liked Lumpy more. "Cool," she spoke, her tone sharp and bitter as if her words were intended to bite despite how little malice she actually felt toward Lumpy. In fact, she was trying to calm down and respond in at least a semi-friendly manner, hence the choice of words... or... word, but her voice seethed with hostility no matter how hard she tried to suppress it. "Uhg," she let out another sharp, dramatic breath as she turned away from her new recruit and back to Solus. Without another word or even a glance directly at him, she started up walking, staring right past him and into the distance of the marsh. "We're leaving," she stated in a very matter-of-fact manner, turning slightly toward the buizel's left so as to walk past him.

She expected the two to follow her without question, and she wanted to leave as soon as possible, but she wasn't sure if that would fix her mood. She wanted to hurt something, but even then, would it help? Regardless, there was nothing for her to beat on unless she wanted to hit the volbeat some more, which didn't seem very appealing since it clearly wasn't awake. Not that she had any problems with hurting someone who wasn't conscious for it, but there wasn't any particular pleasure in such a thing. "And don't question my dazzle!" she snapped in a sudden and rather unprovoked fit, spinning on her front paws and swinging her tail at Solus' belly with no warning whatsoever, a metallic sheen coating the appendage in indication of the attack. Mere moments prior, she would have been fine with the remark Solus had made, but now, her mind was so clouded with rage that impulse to hurt something was overcoming her. She needed to hit someone, and the second Solus' prior comment came to mind, her body had moved practically without thought. She could only put so much force behind the strike with the water slowing her movements down, but she was swinging about as hard as she could under the circumstances.

She still intended to leave, of course, and she expected her pet to follow her even if she happened to break a few of his ribs. She wasn't planning on waiting around just because he was hurt, even if she was the one about to hurt him. In fact, she didn't even intend to wait for him to get back up. This behavior was cold and cruel, even for someone so demented as herself.

The attack Solus had anticipated did not come. His question—which he had actually asked with a true sense of sincerity he did not realise he possessed—also was left unanswered by the umbreon. Once again, it seemed he had gone ignored. And it was at that time that the croagunk decided it would be a good time to finally introduce himself. Solus found this Goro's timing very poor. Here he was trying to deal with what was obviously a very volatile, sadistic sociopath—not to mention the one standing closest to said danger—and the croagunk thought now would be an excellent time to tell the two what his name was as if it actually mattered. It didn't. Yet, it was this unimportant, unasked for statement which Krikka deemed worthy of a response. She made a harsh sigh, looked briefly at the Bug-type she had so recently taken out, and then returned her eyes to Solus. For a moment he thought she was finally going to swing. She did not.

She gave a single syllable response to the croagunk's introduction. The word carried no other meaning than basic acknowledgement. There was no consideration, no opinions; it meant about as much as an absentminded nod as far as Solus could tell. But the word was said with an undisputable tone that did not match the casualness of it. Krikka was very clearly in a state the likes of which Solus had not seen before. He had seen her upset or angry, but never anything like this. She was losing her temper and trying to maintain it. Krikka was actively restraining herself—and beginning to fail—and that was exponentially more frightening than the prospect of simply being smacked. She made another irritated sound. She returned her gaze from Goro back in Solus's direction, but not quite at him. Then she announced that they were leaving and began walking.

And then it hit him. "It" being Krikka's Iron Tail literally hitting him centre mass. This was apparently retaliation for him questioning her. Earlier he had expected it but now he had thought the moment had passed. Additionally, he was so focused on analysing the umbreon's mental state that he somehow failed to realise that he was being attacked until it was too late to evade—not that he would have anyway. He never tried to avoid Krikka because he was sure that would only make everything worse once she did inevitably hit him. He collapsed to the ground immediately, which wasn't helpful in the slightest when said ground was covered in waist-deep water. His head submerged just long enough to gasp for air and find only water in its place. Contrary to what some believe, Water-types can, in fact, drown. Fortunately, Solus's species was designed to prevent such a thing. Almost instinctually he utilized his natural feature to keep himself above the surface while he gasped and coughed, trying to expel water as much as he was trying to refill his lungs with air.

After several long moments, Solus had enough control of his breathing to stand—albeit quite shakily. Without much hesitation, he began to follow his master, silent except for the occasional coughing. He paid no mind to Goro as he did not want to know nor did her care to know what the croagunk thought about what he had just borne witness to. Solus put in considerable effort, considering his current condition, to keep pace with Krikka. Could have been worse. I expected worse.

Environmental Appropriation - Page 5 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Environmental Appropriation   Environmental Appropriation - Page 5 EmptyTue Aug 29, 2017 6:46 pm

Unsurprisingly, given her mood, this Krikka didn't exactly seem enthused at his introduction. Her tone was embittered and searing, her simple acknowledgment of his name apparently bad news to her. Of course, Goro didn't exactly expect the vixen to jump up and down in happy surprise and want to get to know him, but apparently, she was less composed than he first assumed. Up until the end of his battle with her, the slender darkling was all reserved silences and indifference, turning her nose up at him and even her little helper. Even his little scuffle with her hadn't prompted her to spook much; she stood solely in one spot and blasted him with Dark Pulses until he was laid out on his ass. In contrast, one surprise shot from one of the Firefly Pokémon set her off, and the sight of another Poliwhirl made matters worse.

Maybe it wasn't so surprising. When he'd first come onto the scene, the Dark-type had been coughing up mouthfuls of water and crawling away from the other Tadpole Pokémon - one of them probably got the jump on her. Which... might have gone a way to explaining its sudden death. Either way, this bitch was off her rocker, and he wasn't sure how it sat with him. Perhaps it wasn't so surprising, given how the Buizel simpered and tittered around her; something about her had to have been frightening, aside from her power. A bit of madness coupled with a strong sense of ruthlessness seemed to serve well enough.

The Croagunk heaved an absent shrug at Krikka's words, meandering after lazily as she began to leave, taking his time so as not to jostle is midriff - he was going to be sore in the morning, that was for sure. He didn't have any thing really majorly important back home; his shack, some scratchy old blankets and a chest full of junk. His territory was well established, in any case. As long as he didn't go too long without returning, he was sure his stretch of the swamp, and more importantly his home, would go undisturbed. He'd tag along for a bit with this Krikka character, and see if she could deliver on her promise.

Goro couldn't quite hold in the surprise snort of amusement when the dark fox spun on her heel with a sharp remark at the Buizel, striking him solidly in the midriff with an Iron Tail. The cowardly little wuss went down without any resistance, collapsing in the shallow waters enough that he apparently caught a mouthful of water, coming up coughing and sputtering. The Croagunk side-eyed him with barely concealed amusement as he passed the downed Buizel, trailing after Krikka slowly, careful not to jostle his midriff too much. It seemed she was prone to snapping, as well. Maybe all that power came at a price...

Still, he was leaving the Marsh. The realization brought him up short. He didn't know how he felt about it; for the most part, Goro genuinely enjoyed living here. The wild Pokémon were usually strong enough to put up a decent fight, and the total lack of travelers in the daytime did wonders for his solitary nature. And that was, of course, to say nothing of the gorgeous view at night, courtesy of the Firefly Pokémon. He'd fallen into a comfortable routine and was surprised to realize that he was content here.

Perhaps that was his problem. The dark vixen in front of him was probably anything but content with herself; she was stronger than he was. She had to have worked for that power - had to have sought it out. She wasn't happy with herself as she was, and sought to change herself. That had made her stronger than him when it came down to it. Goro had been content to laze away in the swamplands and spend his days wailing on untrained, if admittedly powerful, opponents. In contrast, going out and seeing the world, fighting this Krikka's battles for her... he'd probably fight some strong guys, along the way. A crooked grin found itself on Goro's face at the thought, his fists curling in on themselves eagerly.

The Croagunk stopped one last time, turning to take in the view of the swamplands once more. His eye caught a lone Goomy slithering across the muddy soil, its pace slow and lazy. His grin widened at the sight, his lip curling upward to reveal a set of flat teeth. With a visible sense of cruel amusement, the Croagunk eyed the Goomy carefully for a second, aiming carefully in his mind's eye, before jostling forward and striking out with his leg, punting the little slimeball into the distance. His foot struck hard and true, and Goro let loose a satisfied croak as the Goo Pokémon landed in a pond some distance away, sinking into it with a satisfying splash. What a fuckin' day.
