| (OOC: A continuation of Slushy Water) Unlike the environments of the Small Pond, or other areas around the town, Grassveil itself was comparatively lacking in obvious effects of the winter weather. Snow could still be seen, but diligent public servants left and right were making zealous efforts to clear it away. Fire types de-iced roads with ruthless efficiency, all the while other pokémon went on with their busy lives just like every other day. A couple of the less industrious shopkeepers had decided to close up shop as a result of the weather, while others took advantage of the cold by advertising their stalls, shops and eateries with signs painted up with images of warm beverages and cozy fires. Clovis, travelling back from the small pond not too far away, walked, or rather, strutted his way through the entrance to the shopping district, travelling over to find a restaurant or inn where he could sit down for a meal, oh so generously paid for by someone he was recently acquainted with, a kecleon named Yooka. He had been entrusted with choosing where to eat, and, truthfully did not very much enjoy being put on the spot...! Still, however, he had to stick to his word and make up his mind. Before he would head any further towards where he thought the good restaurants were, however, he turned to check on his companion, as well as get a good look at where he was. Urban areas were, admittedly, a bit depressing when the snow was actively being cleared. It seemed as though the citizens of Grassveil didn't quite share the same romantic view of winter that he did. | |

Following relatively close behind the Piplup, Yooka was looking around. Admittedly she never did go out very much to see sights. So seeing all the stuff going on kindof feels different. However, she didnt look around all that much. Most of it was to bland of a scene. The only things that caught her attention were the signs of places and some random pokemon that passed by but It was when Clovis, the Piplup, turned around to check on her, did she decide to speak her thoughts.
Unbeknownst to her, the two were thinking nearly the same thing."I actually quite like the sight of snow, but I guess it does pose a threat to those who can't adapt or live in the cold. Shame, it probably would of looked kind of serene for this town. Perhaps fine enough for a photo. I'll try for one as soon as it happens again." She looked around for any sign of where in town they were. Not seeing any hint of a familiar landmark in the distances where they stood made Yooka feeling a bit curious. {where is he taking us? I feel like I should know this part of town but I just dont...}

| (OOC: Ahh-! Sorry for the lateness. It's finals week for me right about now.)
Clovis turned back forwards and kept on walking deeper into the district. He didn't really have much to say to Yooka's musings, although he supposed that he agreed with them, for the most part. Without showing much particular interest, he murmured a quick little reply of "Yepper." One of the terms she had used did confuse him a bit, but he didn't voice his question out loud. What in the world is a photo? On a possibly unrelated note, the landscape did seem like a good thing to create a portrait or tapestry of.
Clovis continued onwards, until a row of relatively uninteresting stone buildings appeared at the end of a street. Up above the door of one of them, hung an old, wooden model of a wheat chaff, about two feet wide, and very slightly crooked from the wind. There was probably some sort of name carved into it, but snow had covered it, and time faded it just enough to prevent an onlooker from reading the name. The entire area in general was in very slight disrepair, not absurdly or dangerously so, but certainly noticeably if one paid close enough attention. These establishments clearly didn't see as much business as they once had. Perhaps it was the poor location? Clovis had been to these places on occasion. They were unpopular, but, in his opinion, some of the better meals available for less than the price of a bundle of apples. Even most locals visited this area only infrequently... Yooka probably had never been there at all. Clovis turned and spoke to her. "We're going to the one with the giant piece of wheat on the outside, if you think it'd be a good idea. Have you ever been out here, Yooka? How long did you say you had been in town again?"

I dont freak-out aslong as its within a week, but once a week has passed... 'then' I start to wonder. :P
Clovis didn't reply to Yooka but instead continued ahead. She figured he was more focused on where to go and she didn't complain about the time. It was about just after noon, every place would be in the mindset of the bigger meals and it was just passed the rush hour. However, the smart little Piplup brought the two to a rather out-of-the-way location, avoiding the rush altogether. Yooka was surprised he knew his way around the town for what he is, but evolution can be actively halted... He could be far older than she thinks he is. Does he actually own the place? That, would be cool.Yooka chuckled when she studied the old-style buildings. The building had to be from nearly fourty to fifty years ago at the least. Even the writting was faded. Yooka held back her curiosity on trying to figure out what it said. She was more focused on 'why here'. Then anywhere else in town. Does he know the owner on a specific level? Does this place have better servings?Clovis spoke up breaking the not-so-far off noise of the busy town. He was asking if she ever been here while pointing out the place. She practically gagged the answer, Surprisingly no. I never even knew this place was existant! However, that wasn't the only question he asked her. He also questioned how long she had been in the town. She was still a little choked on her sudden feeling. I've only been here about alittle over a year never really explored the town except when chasing runners. Why do you ask? Does this place have some form of history to your family? She couldn't help but chuckle to that thought. Pretty cute if it really does. She opened the way in for the Piplup when she answered his question. She'll find out soon enough.

| Yooka answered Clovis' question, and went back at it with one of her own. He was unable to answer in the affirmative, although in the case of such an unpopular establishment as this, perhaps that was for the better. "No one in my family was ever a restaurateur, if that's what you mean. I've been here before with my parents, of course. It's really a gem in the sea of mediocrity which plagues this particular district, if you ask me."
Yooka went ahead and opened the door for both of them, revealing inside, a deep and narrow single room for dining, with a window cut into a section of the back wall, which revealed a steamy kitchen lined with pots above flame, assorted surfaces and various cooking implements.
To the right of the two customers walking in, was a single podium with a paper sign placed atop it that read "Welcome. Please seat yourself." Clovis obliged, and strolled over to a short little table in the corner, clearly designed to accommodate pokémon of his size. Probably a bit awkward for a kecleon, but such was an insinctric issue of pokémon society in general.
The place didn't seem very well staffed. Clovis didn't see any other pokémon when he walked in, apart from the backs of a few heads moving about in the kitchen, and one older looking gentlemon who walked out a few seconds after Clovis sat down. The piplup shifted around in his ornately crafted but sadly worn chair, until he was perfectly comfortable. He then peered over at the specials board, and contemplated.

Im akwardly thinking of 'olive garden' even though you dont seat yourself there... I'll assume around their menu, but I wont mention anything on it till I 'have' to put something. :P
heheh, food can sometimes be art ...smeargle chefs... xωx (jk) but I have no idea what could serve food at a restaurant besides mandibuzz, tuxedo wearing wobbuffet, and those three meme'd pokemon over on 'that' side of the internet. =ε= (lopun*, gardi*, medic*)
It seemed pretty simple on the inside now that she's in but it still felt, old, to Yooka. Something about this place just sits as 'gentlemonly'. Clovis answered her question and was already seating himself at a table while Yooka was checking the podium. usually someone would wait here, but the place is pretty empty, someone would probably just walk out and greet us as soon as we found a spot. ignoring the blatant sign altogether. She looked around noticing quite a shift in the places size probably to accommodate the difference in size for pokemon, everyplace has this feature but some focus specific sizes. She couldn't find a spot that could accommodate something bigger than herself. either the place didn't have a spot or they didn't have enough room. She didn't question it. Looking back over at the table the Piplup has chosen, she noticed there was a pokemon on their way over. She didn't hurry but she made her way over aswell. Actually seeing the table sort of reminded her of a Chabudai but knew it was just a normal table just to fit a small pokemon. However, it was more for a Prinplup than a Piplup, 'but then again' it was the place's smallest sized table. It's also pretty small for a Kecleon but she decided to just move the chair out of the way and sat in a formal manner as if the table was actually a Chabudai than complain. She couldnt help but laugh to herself, she found it funny, sitting at a rather small table, it barely reached her chin now and if she sat in the chair it wouldnt reach her chest, while the Piplup was just about the right size with the chair, still as if just a child. Still cute. heheh... "I'm still curious as to what you'll pick, I might just go random and see what comes up. So forget the cost, I'll deal with it." How will my simple cooking compare to a 'professional' chef's prepared feast. Yooka held back a laugh but had a smirk. More than likely badly. 'buuut' cannot tell 'just' yet. Before she forgot, she pulled out her Guild badge and placed it on the table. "Yea, I know it's chipped and worn, but that's a Guild badge. I swear I'll pay it off if I end up not having enough on me right now. Just saying this now so I dont cause a panic if it does happen. mmrrr."- ooc:
She'll have enough. :P It's not a 'real' restaurant of the site. also, - Chabudai. Image link.:

Sometimes good/sometimes bad, depends on 'the one she's talking to'. Topic was not being super pricing. Now the price doesnt matter. She lost interest in the price due to wanting to know the difference between her cooking and their cooking. weird enough. xP

| Clovis turned his attention from the specials and towards the kecleon when Yooka began to speak. He widened his eyes a bit when he saw just how low to the ground she was. He had expected her to find a smaller chair to even their heights, but instead she had elected to sit instead on the floor, and eat in that style. Sitting on the floor like that was never something that had occurred to him- but that was because his legs physically weren't long or flexible enough to maintain the position she was in. It just seemed a little strange to him, not because she was breaking etiquette or anything, but because that particular way of sitting simply was not (and could never be) a piplup custom.
He shook himself back to reality and listened some more. What she said about ordering randomly seemed a bit eccentric, but it wasn't really his place to judge. When she brought up the possibility of her not having enough money to cover the meal, however, Clovis became visibly concerned for a moment, and spoke up about it. "I appreciate the gesture and all, Yooka, but if it's really that big of a deal, I'm more than happy to cover my half of the check." He didn't hope for or expect an affirmative to this offer, but it did seem like the polite thing to say in this case. He took a whif of the vaguely tomato scented air and grabbed himself a menu. "Now, I'm not sure what your favorites are, but everyone seems to enjoy simple, tried and true lasagna. Personally I'm a fan of the gnocchi bolognese." He made sure to put extra emphasis on the name of the dish, as he thought it sounded fancy, and Yooka probably did too.

| The sudden look the Piplup made when she announced her Pokeproblems and the way he followed up that situation made Yooka uneasy, but she shrugged it off and just stared questionably for a second then towards the badge for a few more. "Well, I only keep a handful on me incase of wandering merchants... Not really for full out stuff like this, but whatever. We'll see when the price pops up, I guess. I'll keep the offer out. She left the badge on the table. What Clovis told Yooka right afterwords though took her a while to comprehend. When he said lasagna she thought of the home version 'heat it up and done' kind, which she was about to say something like "Yes... I guess, at some point. The phrase he mentioned he was a fan of, Gnocchi bolognese instead of shelled pasta with sauce. She imagined homemade tagliolini topped with two pounds of fresh foreign clawtzer and one ounce of black truffles... She shook her head and blinked, meeping a "wha--?" following a snap of confusion and acceptance and said, "Sounds like something I should know but I don't recall." She just shrugged and motioned towards the waiting waiter. "Meh, Wynaut just order two then. I'll try it for myself."- ooc:

| Clovis spoke a few words quickly, so that he could finish talking before the waiter arrived. "They're dumplings in meat sauce. Very nice." It wasn't really as fancy as the name made it sound, but it was, at the very least, less 'mainstream' than spaghetti or lasagna. The waiter that Yooka had signaled approached. Clovis hadn't seen this particular 'mon working there before, but he did think that he recognized the species- a tranquill, taller than the piplup, but shorter than the kecleon, wearing a black apron, and carrying a notepad in one wing. They greeted the pair, wished them a good afternoon, and asked, in a number of words, what the two of them wanted to eat and drink. Clovis answered first, and made his request. "Gnocchi bolognese, with an iced tea, please." Judging by the weather outside, ice was one thing they certainly weren't short on. The waiter gave an affirmation, wrote something down awkwardly with their free wing, and asked the same question of Yooka.
In the meantime, Clovis slipped his flipper over Yooka's guild badge, and brought it towards himself, so that he could study it. Even if it was none of his business, something about the way the badge was so chipped and unkempt just seemed irresponsible. She had only been in town for a year, and she had already broken off tiny parts of the poor thing! There really didn't seem to be much of an excuse for it. He could understand if some pokémon just didn't value their possessions like he did. But a badge was a special case! A badge was supposed to signify status. A badge was part of someone's identity, and a poorly kept badge, to him, represented a lack of care or self-respect. The piplup sighed, and slid the badge back to where it was, trying to imagine what it would look like in mint condition.

| Yooka barely looked at the menu for she didn't really think about it. When the waiter asked what they wanted she blanked but remembered she'd just go with whatever Clovis chose. Which didn't take him long at all. Even though he roughly looked at the menu he knew just what he wanted. All Yooka did was say, "I'll have the same." The phrase, 'trying something new' was practically her motto. Perhaps she has had this before and the name was just unique. It's happened before, dungeon diving... Tomb raiding... same thing, yes? To Yooka, yes. To anyone else, that depends. The tombs she went to were old and ancient, not the nowadays graveyard.
Yooka didn't notice the badge was out of place. Her mind was on what the meal would look like, from what Clovis said it was just Dumplings in a sauce. Dumplings... in meat sauce? Yooka could only think about round dough in a various amounts of liquid meat. She closed her eyes and shook her head slightly. She was definitely over-thinking it. It didn't take that long for the meal to arrive, well it was certainly shorter than how long it takes herself to make dumplings. There had to be something behind the scene. Perhaps a fire-type that has actual flames? Wouldn't surprise her. It was probably way easier to cook, fry, shimmer, or whatever if you knew just how hot you are... she nearly held back a laugh at that thought. Ended up giggling when she saw the waiter pop out with the food.

| The service seemed to have gotten quicker since the last time Clovis had visited the restaurant. Perhaps they had gotten a new chef? Then again, Clovis and Yooka were the only customers in the building, so the entire staff could focus their efforts on satisfying them. Clovis heard Yooka quietly giggling about something, for what exacty, he wasn't sure. Either way, two plates of food and two glasses of tea were placed on the table. In addition to this, Clovis was given a rolled-up napkin, sealed with a red sticker and containing a few eating utensils.
Clovis unwrapped his cutlery and picked out the longer of two forks, which would be the most efficient choice for eating this particular dish. He then stuck the fork inside of his plate, swished it around in the food to stir it a bit, then left it resting against the edge of his dish so that his food would cool. The meal itself consisted of a few dozen tiny brownish-yellow wheat dumplings covered up by layer of tomato sauce, another layer of white mozzarella, and a small amount of chopped spinach on top, for texture. On the left side of the table, there were a few shakers full of various seasonings. Before he would eat, Clovis reached for the shaker holding powdered parmesan cheese, and sprinkled a bit of it onto his food. He then placed it back where it was, and wrapped his flipper around his glass of tea. He raised the glass into the air, said "Cheers!" and kept his beverage in the air until the kecleon met his proposal for a toast by also raising her glass and tapping it against his.

| The food arrived and the plates were set. Yooka just looked at it and Clovis with a pretty ready face as if expecting mid-class meals, which it was. Yooka almost tried the dish just as it was, plain and untouched. However, The Piplup seemed to know exactly how to handle it, and he did mention he was a fan of it so she didn't question his motivation. She just shrugged to herself just as Clovis raised his glass for a tap, just as she was unraveling her utensils to start. She blanked and blinked, but quickly smirked and complied with her own glass.
After hearing them cling, she just placed her glass back down mumbling to herself "Time to see the difference..." She remembered what the piplup did and noted the two forks, using the bigger one... huh, but wouldn't using the smaller one make it last just a bit longer? pff, probably not. Picking out the larger of the forks she split her meal in thirds practically evenly. Keeping one part plain, topping one part with the same cheese Clovis topped his with, and the third part of the dish with extra salt, so she has an excuse for later if it ends up being bad, 'her bad'.
Before she tried any of it she asked a question, letting it cool off, in her own way. "You say, your a fan of this? Just what makes this dish so famous, to 'you'." emphasising the word you a bit more than usual to point out the obvious topic. As she finished asking, she took a bite of the cheese covered portion, so as to experience it a bit more if he answers.

| When the glasses collided, Clovis leaned back in his seat and took a sip of his tea. He then placed the glass back on his table, and reached out for his fork to begin eating. But just as Clovis prepared to lift his fork, he was met with a question about food- what made this dish special? Truthfully, nothing much appealed to him in this particular dish, at least as opposed to any other pasta dish. Its name being difficult for most to pronounce was the real deciding factor. He didn't dislike gnocchi bolognese, far from it. But he probably would have ordered something a bit more plain if he was alone. But of course, it would be graceless to simply admit to having such a shallow reason. So, he pulled together his collective knowledge of all the two or three times he had tried the dish before, and made up some qualities.
"Well Yooka, it's not just any one thing. A meal is comprised of many different food aspects put together. This particular dish happens to strike my fancy because it's such a good combination. The presence of savory dumplings over, say, noodles, is what differentiates gnocchi bolognese from just any other pasta dish. The fact that dumplings are so much thicker than noodles contributes to a meal that is very filling and very practical. Meaty tomato sauce and cheese of course, just go well with everything." There, that seemed to be a sufficient explanation. Hopefully that would satisfy her curiosity for the time being, and he could begin to eat some of the food he had just described so meticulously. Clovis began to take bits of the hot food and move into his beak, eating one dumpling at a time. After taking a break from eating to sip on some tea, he decided to ask a question of his own. Nothing too deep, just some small talk. "So, Yooka. Where did you say you were from?" He stuffed a bit of food in his mouth after asking.

| So it's because the dumpling provide a fuller meal than normal pasta...? It seems the same to me. Guess I just didn't notice. I'll check it once I get back to the guild... She prodded the dish's dumplings for a bit looking over how it looks so when she gets back she could check the differences in density and stuff. If it ends up true, perhaps she should try this more often. A bigger meal is always nice to have. She did notice she didn't even finish half the total dish even though she did have a couple bites from each of the three parts she split. The dish itself wasn't all that different from anything she usually had when it came to pasta, she wasn't all happy about that but she didn't deslike it either. It was definitely better than her homemade meals... which was mostly dungeon found items mixed together rather than farm fresh. Only rarely does she actually get better 'quality' stuff from the market. She finds it more pricey than stuff she could gather while on a random walk.
The question Clovis replied with gave Yooka a jolt. She didn't choke on her current bite but she muscled it down. She gagged out, "Did I forget to-? Uh, Rainfront Town... Why...? It's not like there's really much to talk about there, just that I spent most of my time handling my father's business. ...!" She stopped dead. Guess there could be something to talk about... She scratched her forhead with the butt-end of the fork. She looked questionable at the table. "Why did I even mention him... Ignore that. What about yourself? Where's your place of origin?" She continued eating as if nothing occurred. She just hoped he didn't press into that. Her father was... one of 'those' pokemon.

| Clovis ate while he listened, expecting a straightforward and swift answer. What he received however, was an awkward and wavy explanation of parts of her earlier life, followed by Yooka flipping the question right around on him. The kecleon speaking from across the table seemed a bit tense and unwilling to discuss the subject further, so Clovis attempted to counter this sudden chilly behavior by speaking in a warm, velvety voice that he could only achieve by taking a moment to relax his larnyx. With about as calming a voice as he could produce without practice, Clovis answered the question. "My place of origin, Yooka, is Grassveil Town." He wasn't from any of the truly urban areas downtown, but he certainly lived closer to Grassveil than to any other landmark, and was still within the jurisdiction of the Grassveil Police Department. He looked out a window briefly, but quickly continued speaking. "...But I have been to Rainfront. It's a nice town. They've got great hotels, great beaches... I even got a chance to visit the coral forests." He stopped talking, and moved his flipper up to the height of the joy ribbon he wore like a string bowtie. He pointed towards it with his flipper and said, "T'was a souvenir from my visit. Frankly, I'm not sure why anyone would want to leave!" Clovis chuckled, and moved his fork around through his unfinished food. "You say your family had a business? Tell me about it, I might have seen it while I was over there." | |
