Mission details:

[Energy: 21 - 10 (entrance fee) = 11]
[Item equipped: Trap Scarf (negates all trap rolls)]

It had been one or two hours since morning dawned over Grassveil Town, and while there were some puffy clouds drifting through the sky, they didn't stop the city and the vast grassy meadows around it from being bathed in warm sunlight.  The bright, cheery weather mirrored the emotions of a certain Skitty wearing a blue scarf as she trotted along one of the dirt trails leading east away from town, her tail held high and a smile firmly plastered on her face as she traveled with two of her friends.  Just up ahead was the edge of Shadowhue Forest, the ancient woods full of trees that stretched higher than even the tallest of Pokémon...  This was where their day's work had taken them, and the Skitty was glowing with excitement.

"Okay!  Before we go inside, we should take a look at this job one more time..." she said while turning around and settling on her haunches.  Her tail swished back and forth as she fished a slip of paper from her bag and spread it out on the ground.

"It says that Plusle and Minun are living in a tree house somewhere in Shadowhue Forest.  It shouldn't be too far from the entrance if they still spend so much time bothering people in town, so...  We just have to find them, and give them a good talking to.  Everyone understand?" Darcy asked, gazing up at her two friends with a smile...  Her eyes lingered on Alki in particular, the little Igglybuff who had joined her team at the guild just yesterday.  Darcy had chosen this mission particularly because it sounded safe and simple, the kind of thing that would be a perfect introduction to how the guild worked.  And, well...  Missions where she got to meet new Pokemon were always Darcy's favorite anyway, so that just left her more excited than ever!

[Energy=18-10 = 8]

It was a really nice day. There were fluffy clouds and a bright blue sky. Weather like that usually brought her good luck. That's how the weather had been when she'd... Left her house. And she'd gotten away from home and found herself at Grassveil safely. So the fluffy clouds made her feel... Almost safe. Especially now that Darcy was close.

Alki felt her light blue bow begin to slide off her head, but she caught it before it fell off completely. She really liked it. Faye had given her the bow just yesterday when she'd joined Darcy's team. Right now, the bow was one of her favorite things. Darcy's scarf was blue too! She played with the bow in her hands, but remained quiet. Enjoying the company was good enough for her.

She slowed her bounces, and then stopped. Darcy had laid a piece of paper down. It had words on it! Alki gave the paper a few quick glances, but she really couldn't read it. She couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed... Reading was hard!

Thankfully, Darcy said what the paper meant. She smiled, still holding the bow in both of her hands, being careful not to drop or damage it. "I-I understand, Darcy!" She said, a bit too nervously for her tastes. She wish she could say that she wasn't worried, but she hadn't ever felt much confidence in herself. And it was her first mission! What if she messed up or did something wrong or got lost or hurt or... No. Deep breaths. She took a few deep breaths. Once. Twice. Then she counted to ten. "S-Sorry... I-I'm just worried..."

She fiddled with the bow in her hand, taking a sudden interest in it. She'd already inspected it dozens of times, but she felt a bit embarrassed. What if she did do something wrong? No... She shouldn't think like that. A good talking to? Alki couldn't give anyone a good talking to... Well. She'd worry about it when she got there. She took another deep breath, and took a few small bounces towards Darcy, holding the bow out to her.

"C-Can you h-help me put on m-my bow?" She stuttered. Maybe it would help her talk better? Probably not... But there were things like that, that helped Pokemon do stuff better? Maybe her bow was like that? Probably not... No, that was wishful thinking... But still. She could hope.

"D-Darcy... Do y-you think I'll do fine? She asked, looking up at the taller Pokemon.

Darcy kept smiling as she returned the paper to her bag and listened to her teammates.  Those two couldn't have seemed more different, with Alki being nervous and Yooka being so relaxed that she almost seemed bored...  But neither of them bothered the Skitty at all as she accepted Alki's ribbon with her forepaws and did her best to help put it back on.

"You'll do great, Alki.  Don't worry, alright?" Darcy said gently, flashing a smile while she worked.  "And even if things don't work out, well...  That's okay too.  I've messed up a lot of missions before, but I've learned a lot from all of them.  I won't be mad if things don't go perfectly."

Once she was confident that Alki's ribbon was securely in place, Darcy smiled again and resumed walking towards the forest...  The trees up ahead towered so high that they left the forest floor shady in most places, even though the weather was so good.  Occasionally a beautiful little oasis of sunlight would shine through onto the ground, but for the most part, this forest seemed like the perfect place for a pair of low-key troublemakers to live...

The Skitty gazed at the trees for a moment as she considered Yooka's question.  "Well...  We're guildmembers, and we have our badges, so...  I think that just seeing us will let those two know how much they're bothering people," she said.  "So for now, let's just try to find their tree house, alright?  I think that will be the hard part.

Alki smiled and looked at her feet, slightly embarrassed that she couldn't put the bow on herself. She thought she could... but it just kept sliding off! Alki didn't know where she was messing up; she thought she was putting the bow on right! But clearly, she wasn't. It kept sliding off and Alki kept trying to fix it but it never quite worked out.

But she let Darcy work on the bow. It gave her an excuse to be close to her new friend. Alki's cheeks grew a soft shade of red, but she stood still, until the bow was securely in place. She took a few steps back, giving a small smile. It was hard, she hadn't smiled a lot before. But still, she did feel happy. She hoped that it looked genuine. "T-Thanks, Darcy..." She mumbled, giving her a small hug before bounding backwards.

Darcy had said some really nice words. She felt a bit calmer about the job. Even if she messed up, they wouldn't be mad... but still. She didn't want to mess up, she wanted to prove that she could do it well! "T-Thanks Darcy, but I... um... r-real--" she managed, before yawning. The forest was a long ways away from the guild. The travelling had left Alki a bit tired. She sat down under a nearby tree and closed her eyes for a bit, humming to herself, not bothering to complete her sentence. She'd forgotten what she was going to say. And besides! The forest was quiet, besides her two new friends. She didn't mind them. They didn't interrupt her or make her talk if she didn't want to, for the most part, so she could still relax in the relative stillness of the forest. Especially compared to the guild, the forest was the quietest place on the planet! She wanted to savor it for a bit.

She stood up as she heard Darcy begin to walk towards the forest again, and hurried up to bounce besides her. The forest was starting to get darker, and Alki unconsciously began to bounce closer to Darcy. It made her feel safer. Small patches of sunlight  still managed to find their way to the ground. They seemed so warm! She bounced ahead to see what it felt like. They were warm! She giggled, and bounced back to Darcy, not saying anything. But she enjoyed being with Darcy and Yooka. It didn't feel like a job or a mission, really. Just some more time she could spend with them, even if she didn't have much to say.

Alki grabbed her bag and rotated it around her so she could reach it better. She grabbed her new badge from the day before. She'd taken the time to organize it, she didn't want to lose anything. She'd never owned much, and now that she owned a few things, she didn't want to lose a single one of them. A map and her badge and her bow, and they all were important to her now.  They were hers! Even if she couldn't understand the map very well yet.

But right then, she just wanted her badge, to show to Darcy. She couldn't help it when she mentioned that they had their badges. She took out the badge and held it in her hands, eager to show it off, but she didn't want to brag... that was rude, wasn't it? So she just held it silent, and began to bounce up ahead to look for a tree house. How lucky she'd be if she managed to find the house! How hard could it be? She looked back at Darcy, still wearing her small smile. It was good to be in the guild! Much better than her old home. "I-I'll f-find it! Or... I-I'll do my best." She corrected herself. Alki didn't know if she'd be able to find it, but she would certainly try.

Darcy smiled as she noticed Alki sticking so close, and she smiled even wider as the little Igglybuff made it known that she was determined to help find the tree house...  Alki had already come a long way since their first meeting yesterday.  Letting her join the guild seemed like it had definitely been the right choice...  Darcy just hoped that this mission would go well, and that they wouldn't run into too much trouble.  Even though this was a low-stakes mission, failure was never fun, and Alki seemed really sensitive...  The thought of seeing her new teammate discouraged or sad left Darcy with a twinge of concern about all of this...  She resolved to do her very best to keep that from happening.

Darcy's ears twitched as Yooka grumbled and took a deep yawn.  The Skitty smiled and perked up as her name was mentioned, but the words that followed sent a jolt of surprise running from her ears to her tail. "H-huhh?  Yookaaa, no!  I can't do that..." she said while trotting close, just sitting in front of Yooka instead of trying any sort of attack.  She wore a confused smile on her face, but her eyes carried a hint of concern as she gazed up at her teammate.  "Um, we're not far from town.  I could run back and buy some Chesto berries if you need them.  You're my teammate.  I wouldn't mind..."

...Truthfully, she probably couldn't make any purchases like that without selling some of her belongings first.  But Yooka was probably in the same boat, with how little she had paid Darcy for escorting her to Grassveil Town, so the Skitty didn't mind at all.  They were friends, and teammates, and they watched out for one another...  It was just the right thing to do!  Yooka would surely do the same if Darcy herself wasn't feeling well.

PostSubject: Re: Mischief Makers   Mischief Makers EmptyMon Dec 26, 2016 10:46 pm

The trees were really large. That was all Alki could think about, as she begin to look for the tree-house. How was she supposed to know where the tree-house was? She couldn't know, so that meant she had to check every tree! Right? She didn't want to go too far away from Darcy.

Actually... she should probably ask Darcy what to do. After all, she had a lot more experience than Alki did, doing those sorts of missions. And besides, Alki didn't feel too comfortable doing things alone. She didn't want to risk messing something up, or risk disappointing Darcy.

She began to slow down in her efforts to find the tree-house. This was awfully stressful. What if she didn't find it? Then again, Darcy had said she wouldn't be mad. She wouldn't. What about the Pokemon in charge of the guild? She didn't know Faye well enough to know for sure that she wouldn't be mad. What if the Meganium kicked her out because she was so useless? She'd never been useful before, and Alki hadn't changed since she'd left her house. She was the same.

And that meant she was just as useless as ever! She felt sad, all of a sudden. But she didn't want to worry Darcy, or make her feel bad. She forced a smile, and hoped that it seemed at least somewhat convincing. If it wasn't, Darcy would be sad along with Alki, and she didn't want to drag Darcy down with her. But still, she had to go talk to her. Alki had to clarify a few things. She couldn't mess up on her first job!

She bounced up to Darcy, slowly. What were Yooka and Darcy talking about? She didn't know, she hadn't been paying attention. She took off her bag and held it in both hands, swaying back and forth slowly to an internal song. She just wanted to calm down a bit. Control her stuttering! That would be nice. Other Pokemon probably found her stuttering annoying. Or maybe they just thought Alki was annoying in general? Her fake-smile faltered, and she began to speak before she let herself think about herself anymore. That never ended well.

"Actually, I-I..." she stopped, realizing her stutter. That was annoying, wasn't it? But she stopped only for a moment, and hoped that no one had noticed. That would be bad. "Well, Darcy. I j-just wanted to make sure I had the details right. So there's some little children who are annoying an older Pokemon and she wants us to make them stop and we have to find them 'cause we don't know where they are but we know they're in this forest. How do I look for them? Was I doing fine earlier? What if they don't want to stop? What then? W-What do I do?" She said, then taking a deep, shaky breath. That was a mouthful! But she didn't want to embarrass herself with her stutter. She'd only done so once! That was alright... right? She looked around the forest nervously, bouncing closer to her friend. It was really dark in the forest. She wondered what was out there? She'd never been in that forest before.

[Energy: 11 - 16 = 0]

Seeing Yooka cringe just made Darcy lean forward and feel a little more worried.  Had she done something wrong?  Was Yooka just the sort that enjoyed roughhousing..?  Because the Skitty didn't think she could help with that...  She really hoped it wouldn't be a problem.  Yooka was a little strange, but it was still good to be teammates with her, and Darcy wanted to make sure she was happy...

Before the Skitty could say anything, Yooka had turned away to investigate a tree and Alki was bouncing up to her, holding her bag in her hands and frowning slightly.  Darcy's ears flattened as she listened to Alki's concerns...  Maybe the little Igglybuff was worried after all, now that the three of them were actually in the forest.

"You're right about all of that, Alki," Darcy said as she lay prone on the ground and gently gazed into the Igglybuff's worried eyes.  "And you're doing fine.  I think that all we can do is walk through the paths around the forest's entrance and watch the trees carefully...  Or we could ask for help if we find someone who lives around here.  And as for Plusle and Minun, well...  They're just kids.  They probably don't even know they're doing anything wrong.  But if they won't listen to us, we can always track down their parents, alright?  Nothing to worry about."

Darcy gave Alki a smile.  Hopefully the little Igglybuff would understand...  It made sense that she would be so worried about her first mission, but Darcy wanted her to know that it would be alright.  Even if they completely failed somehow, it would be a good learning experience and nothing else...

Yooka spoke up again.  Darcy turned her head to see what she was talking about, and her eyes lit up the moment she saw the little red fruits in the Kecleon's hands.  "Ohhh, Cheri berries!  I didn't know those grew here!" she said, jumping to her feet and dashing over to Yooka's side.  "Come look, Alki!  These berries cure paralysis.  They're really good to have on hand when you're exploring places like this!"

((That's alright.  Roleplaying should be fun, so don't push yourself if you don't want to!  This site will still be here when or if you're ever in the mood again.  c:  ))

[8 - 12 = 0 Energy]

Alki nodded. She just wanted a bit of confirmation, honestly. She didn't feel too comfortable doing it alone. Especially when Darcy was so close by, it made her feel better, knowing that Darcy approved of what she was doing. If Darcy told her she was doing fine, then she was doing fine. She was glad she'd asked. "A-Alright." She nodded, then looked around. She wondered if she could find anything, that'd be really nice. "I'll go... do that, then."

As she bounced forward, she noticed something lying on the ground. She bent down to pick it up, giggling. She enjoyed being with these two, it was fun, and she didn't have to talk much, but she was still close enough for her to feel safe. It was really nice. Were all their 'missions' like this? She picked up the object on the ground, and found it to be a spike, of sorts. Huh. What was it used for? She fumbled with it, and accidentally poked one of her hands with the pointy end of the spike. "Ow..." she mumbled, looking at the small injury. It kind of stung... but it didn't look bad. She could just ignore it for a bit until they got back to the guild, she didn't want to worry anyone.

As she was thinking about what to do, she also heard Darcy call her. She wanted to show her... berries? She'd seen a few when she was travelling from her home to the pond and then from the pond to Grassveil. But she'd never really thought much of them. But... they cured Paralysis? She bounced closer to Darcy, being careful to hide her hand behind her back. Huh. They looked kinda pretty, now that she got to see them up close. "C-Can I taste one?" She asked. She wasn't paralyzed, no. But she was actually feeling a bit tired. She yawned.

Her eyes drifted away from the berries, and again, began to observe her surroundings. Hey! What were those Pokemon doing there? She nudged Darcy and then Yooka, and then pointed at the Slokoth and Pinsir. "S-Should we ask them?" She whispered to Darcy. She didn't really want to go out of her way to talk to them, but if either of her companions thought it was best, who was she to judge? It was her first time, she really shouldn't be doing much without their approval, should she? She yawned again and sat down, wanting to rest a bit. Was it normal to be this tired? She hoped so. It would be a bit embarrassing to be tired out so quickly. "S-Sorry... I just feel kinda tired..." she mumbled, looking at Darcy apologetically. Actually, no. Whether it was normal or not to be that tired, it was still embarrassing.

"If you're sleepy, Alki, you can always ride on my back.  You don't weigh much at all," Darcy said, a little amused at how tired Alki was.  A lot had happened yesterday, though, so perhaps it wasn't too surprising.  In any case, the Skitty turned in the direction of the Pokémon Alki mentioned...  A group of two Pinsir and a Slakoth.  She wasn't sure what they were doing, but approaching them and asking for help didn't sound like a bad idea...  It was easy to hide in dungeons like this, so they tended to attract some unsavory sorts, but not everyone was that way!

"But okay.  I think asking them is a good idea," she said with a nod.  At that, Yooka said that she would be available if things went south, and she vanished into one of the trees...  Well, she had never seemed like the most social Pokémon.  Darcy smiled a little as she trotted along the worn forest trail towards the other group of Pokemon.

"Umm, excuse me, you three?  Do you live around here?  We're looking a Plusle and a Minun, but we don't know where they are.  They live in a tree house," she said cheerfully as she came to a stop in the sunny little clearing that the three Pokemon were standing in...

Alki nodded and bounced onto Darcy's back. Was she really so light? Well... if she was, who was she to deny Darcy's offer? And she really felt tired. "Ok... sorry..." She mumbled. She really wasn't helping much, was she? But she felt really tired all of a sudden! Maybe she just needed a bit of rest...

She laid down on Darcy's back, allowing herself to be carried wherever they were going. She didn't quite know where, she heard a small, hazy voice saying that going to ask for directions didn't sound like a bad idea. She closed her eyes for a small nap.  That'd be Ok, right?  Would they be mad at her? She struggled to keep her eyes open. She didn't want anyone mad at her. This thought kept her awake, but only for a few seconds. The arm she'd pricked with the Cacnea spike was hanging limply off the side while she slept.

Since Alki was sleeping, she didn't get to hear the Pinsir and Slakoth talk. Maybe it was for the best though. They were pretty big Pokemon, and they didn't have the friendliest appearance. Alki would've been scared of them.

"Hello. Why, Yeah, we've seen them!" The Pinsir said excitedly. He smiled broadly at the Skitty, and was about to point her in the right direction, but his Slakoth companion spoke up before he could.

"However..." It said slowly, and quite a bit less excitedly than the Pinsir. "We would like something in return for this information..." He said. The Pinsir's smile fell from his face, and he nodded glumly. "Yeah... sorry..."

Alki began to toss and turn in her sleep. She wasn't having a nice dream, she was back at home with her parents and they were yelling so much and then they were about to hit her like Melanie had done so just the day before... she bounced away in her dream, and she fell off of Darcy at precisely the same time. She woke up with a small, undignified squeak. She'd... fallen off? That was embarrassing! She didn't notice the Pinsir and Slakoth at first, but simply sat down and hoped no one had noticed her fall off. Hopefully they hadn't. She didn't want to embarrass herself in front of Darcy!
