Renata was woken by the soft chirruping of Arietta as she joined the other birds of Slateport in a sort of dawn chorus. Ever since she was younger, Ren had been an early riser, always eager to make the most out of every day. She supposed having a Fletchling who liked to summon the new day with her melodic voice also aided her early waking schedule.

Although waking early was commonplace for Renata, today itself was a day that she'd been looking forward to for months now. They'd decided as a group that they'd finally leave Slateport and travel Hoenn to chase their dreams, but today was the day. The very first day of their journey, and Ren couldn't be more excited.

As the time approached midday, and after double checking that she had everything she needed in her bag, Ren headed for their chosen meeting place. It was a tranquil little fountain in the center of the city, surrounded by convenient benches that made it a perfect place for congregating. It appeared that Renata was the first of their group to arrive, and so whilst Skipper skated along the fountain's surface and Arie chased him from the air, Ren relaxed on one of the benches and stared up at the midday sky with a small smile of content gracing her features.

Syrian groaned as something poked her cheek. She flailed her arms uselessly, trying to wave off whatever it was. "Fi'gh moar minuhtes..." she yawned, turning over and squashing her face into her pillow tiredly.

A huff could be heard in the room, and then Syrian's eyes flew open in distress as something yanked her hair forcefully. "OWW!" she yelped, whipping around and coming face-to-face with Sable, her mischievous sableye. She glared at her pokemon. "What was that for?" she asked grumpily.

Sable just flashed her a grin full of sharp teeth, and leapt of the bed. He walked over to her desk, where a bag was slung over one of the arms. Syrian's eyes grew wide. "OH YEAH! Our journey is starting today!!!" She yelled excitedly.

She jumped out of her bed and dressed hurriedly, throwing her bag over her shoulder and racing down the stairs, Sable hot on her heels.

"Nana, today's the day!!!" Syr shouted excitedly as she burst into the kitchen. Syr's grandmother -who Syr referred to affectionately as 'nana'- turned from the stove, where she was frying up scrambled eggs.

"Yes, yes, I know dear," her grandmother said amusedly. "I still say you should wait a year, but-"

"We've gone over this a million times, Nana!" Syr groaned. "I'm old enough to go on the journey; I have been for two years! If I don't go now, I'll never go and then I'll be the biggest dork in the entire WORLD!" She exclaimed dramatically, throwing herself into a chair with her arms splayed out in example. "Then I'll NEVER EVER see a Legendary Pokemon! And that's my DREAM!" She finished pointedly, folding her arms and finally turning her eyes and attention back to her grandmother.

"Alright, alright!" Her grandmother responded exasperatedly. "I know, sweetie. You've got to follow your dream. But I can't help worrying about you. It's what I do -I'm a grandmother. Be sure to call me every day, so I know that you're alright!"

Syr rolled her eyes. "How about, every week. I'll look dumb, calling my grandmother every night!"

"Every other day," her grandmother countered.

"Every three days, or I won't call at all," Syr replied grumpily. Her grandmother looked over at Syr's irritated face, and sighed. She walked over to Syr and embraced her in a hug.

"Alright, dear. Just be careful, alright? You've got everything packed?"

"Yeah, I got everything," Syr replied, hugging her grandmother back.

"Oh, I almost forgot!" her grandmother exclaimed. "There was a package in the mail for you. I think it's from your mom!"

Syr froze at the mention of her mother, her eyes turning cold. "I don't want whatever's in it," she replied steely.

Syr's grandmother fixed her with a serious stare. "Regardless of whether you want it or not, you WILL open it. At least do THAT for me, will you?" She said.

Syr rolled her eyes. "FINE."

Her grandmother set the package on the table. It wasn't very big, no bigger than a shoebox. Syr opened the package to reveal a black-and-purple colored Holocaster, and a normal pokeball. There was a notecard attached, and in fancy letters, it merely said: "Congratulations, Syrian." On the back of the notecard was her mother's name embossed on the card.

"D- for effort there, mother..." Syr grumbled.

She took out her old, banged up poketech and looked in between it and the holocaster for a moment, before tossing the holocaster back in the box and picking up the pokeball. She couldn't abandon a pokemon just because she didn't like her mother, however much she just wanted to throw the box and its contents away immediately.

Syr looked over at her grandmother. "I'll have to release it outside in case it's some giant pokemon or something, knowing mother." She said irritably. "It's almost time for me to go anyway, so let's just say our goodbyes now, I guess."

Her grandmother nodded, looking sorrowful. They exchanged hugs and goodbyes, with a few more reminders from her grandmother to be careful, stay safe, and to call her often. Syr left the house, Sable trailing behind her, and she took the pokeball and rolled it around in her hand as she started off to the meeting place, where she was going to meet up with her three friends to go on their journey together.

Syr sighed and pressed the button on the middle of the pokeball, releasing the pokemon inside. There was a flash of bright white light, and a large bird-like pokemon formed in the air. When the light faded, the pokemon was revealed to be a skarmory. The pokemon looked down at Syr in surprise and let out a shrieking cry.

Syr covered her ears from the loudness of the sound, and Sable growled, his claws glinting menacingly in the sun. "Geez, could you be any louder?" Syr grumbled.

The skarmory glared down at her, clearly unimpressed. It seemed to take her statement as a challenge, as it opened its mouth and shrieked again, this time louder than before.

The shrieking started to draw the attention of the people in Slateport. Syr was close enough to the meeting place that it would probably draw the attention of her friends, too, if they were there already.

Faerydae woke up to someone nudging her. She opened her eyes and saw her Ralts, Dawn, next to her. "Good morning," she yawned. As Faery groggily rubbed her eyes, she suddenly remembered something. One of the most important events I her life. Her eyes widened. "Today's the day!!!", Faery squealed, all sleepiness worn off. She picked up Dawn, who was already used to the sudden squeals of joy from her human friend, and began to get ready for their journey with 3 other friends.
~~~~~~~
Once she made sure she had everything, she said goodbye to her parents and set off, Dawn walking next to her. Knowing her parents as she did though, they would probably call her through her holocaster at least every other day, so she wouldn't have to worry about forgetting to contact them.
When they finally reached the meeting place, Faerydae suddenly broke into a run, and only stopped when she was close to Ren. "Hello!", she greeted, while Dawn just teleported from where Faery began running to the place right next to her(Faery). Right after Dawn waved 'hello', suddenly, they heard an extremely loud shriek. "What is that!?!?"
Xavier yawned as he sat up in his bed, waking a certain Togepi up in the process. "Come on Hope, we can't be late!" He said excited as he grabbed his bag off oh the floor right next to him. It was finally time to go on his journey, which his parents only allowed because he promised he would come back to be a Breeder. The Pokeball Felix was in sat in a pouch in his bag, and Hope jumped into Xavier's arms, ready to leave. He sat the Togepi down to get put on some clothes, picked her back up, and went to the kitchen. He made some quick toast and gave Hope a snack since there wasn't any time for a real breakfast. He said his goodbyes to his parents and set off.
At the main entrance to the ranch, he looked back, reflecting on all of the good memories he had, turned back around and ran off towards the meeting place. He was just a few meters away from the fountain when he heard the screeching of a Skarmory. He guessed someone in the city got a pretty loud one, and shrugged it off. "Ren! Faery! I'm here!" The teen called out to his two companions, waving at them. Hope greeted them both with a cheerful "Pii~" and waved both of her arms at them. "How are you guys? And Arie, Skipper and Dawn too?"
Renata's thoughts trailed off as she stared up at the sky, and she found herself wondering if she should pay a visit to her mother's market stall before she left Slateport. She was always working too hard, but it would be nice to see her again before she left on her journey.
Ren was soon distracted however as Faery arrived at the meeting place. Grinning at her friend, Ren got to her feet and waved her over. They'd only just exchanged greetings when a loud shriek sounded from nearby. It sounded like a pokemon of sorts, though without having heard it before it wasn't really possible for Ren to pinpoint what. Nevertheless, she couldn't go and investigate since she had agreed to meet her friends by the fountain.
"It sounded like a pokemon, but im not sure which one..." she replied to Faery, watching as Arietta trailed off from chasing Skipper around the fountain and instead hovered in the air, her attention on the direction the shriek had come from. The young surskit however was still content to make the most of his time on the fountain's water.
Before Ren could think any more of the noise, she was distracted by the arrival of Xavier.
"Hi Zavy!" she replied with a smile, "Arie and Skipper are both doing well, how are Hope and Felix?"
Syr glared at her new skarmory, rolling her eyes. It was typical of her mother to send her a completely untrained wild pokemon, expecting her daughter to be so grateful for the gift. Admittingly, skarmory were known to be powerful pokemon, not to mention very impressive-looking, but really, where was the functionality in giving a young girl a powerful, wild pokemon? Especially when that girl did not go through pokemon trainer school, but rather was focused on research?!?!
The skarmory kept screeching at her, and Syr finally lost her temper. She began to scream at the top of her lungs right back at the pokemon, drawing even more attention to herself from the passerby. She didn't care; right now she was trying to prove a point. Though, she wasn't sure what point she was trying to prove.
"Dawn and I are doing fine," Faerydae answered to Xavier, with Dawn confirming it with a nod. Faery began looking around, trying to spot Syrian when she came. She heard the screeching again, but this time, there was someone screaming. Somebodygirl that was very familiar to the group. "That sounds like Syr!", she exclaimed, heading towards the sound, but stopping for a bit to see if the others were coming.
"That's great to hear! And Hope and Felix couldn't be better!" The teen said with a bright smile. He was about to sit down on the bench they were all at when he heard the Skarmory's screeching again. He was about to let it go when he heard a certain friend's screams, too. "Well, I think I know who just got a Skarmory." Xavier said gleefully, chuckling a bit as he stood back up and moved towards the source of the sound behind Faery. Meanwhile, Hope, who was still tired from this morning, had fallen back asleep and stayed that way through the screeching and yelling that people in Kanto could probably hear.
Renata's attention was drawn to the screech once again when this time, it was followed by a very human screech in response.
Was that..? she thought, recognising the voice. Her thoughts were confirmed only moments later when Faery seemed to come to the same conclusion.
With a light chuckle, Ren jogged towards the noise, Arietta flying in front of her trainer and Skipper following behind at his own leisurely pace.
Eventually they turned a corner and spotted Syrian and her new Skarmory.
Looking at the steel bird in a little bit of awe, Ren grinned, "That's quite a loud Skarmory you've got there Syr," she laughed.
Syr stopped her screaming as she heard a voice behind her. She turned to see her friends gathered behind her, Ren having spoken up, commenting on her newest pokemon. Syr rolled her eyes as the skarmory stopped its screeching finally.
"No kidding," she said dryly, shooting a glare at the metal bird from the corner of her eye before returning her gaze to her friends. "Can you believe my mother sent me a friggen wild skarmory? Nice gesture and all, mother, but really? How does she expect me to control it?!" She exclaimed in exasperation.
The skarmory returned her glare ten-fold, and upon the words spilling out of Syr's mouth, hopped down from its perch. It stood in front of her and began pecking at her arm in irritation. "HEY! Stop that you stupid bird!" Syr screeched in pain and shock.
Sable, who had been watching the proceedings with increasingly protective feelings, snapped when the skarmory attacked his partner. He promptly raced up to the skarmory and headbutted the metal bird pokemon with focused psychic power, sending the skarmory flailing onto the ground. The skarmory shot back up with a loud caw, and began pecking at the dark-ghost type pokemon.
Note: How did this get so out of hand things are already firing up lol
Xavier continued to chuckle as he walked around the corner to see the screaming match. Hope finally woke up being this close to the loud noises. She was about to become angry from her sleep being interrupted , but fell asleep when the screeching stopped. "Well, he or she isn't wild, really. But it certainly seems that way!". The teen chuckled some more, but stopped when the Skarmory started to attack Syr. As the infighting ensued, Xavier decided that he should intervene before someone got hurt. He went in between the two Pokemon attacking each other in hopes to stop it. "You don't mind if I try to calm him or her down, do you?" Xavier looked towards Syr with his bright blue eyes as he asked the question.
'Oh my gosh' was the first thing to come to Fairy's mind. Her friends would easily see that if they looked at her, but really, who couldn't? It was practically written in big bold letters with a neon colored marker all over her face (OOC: Why do I enjoy this sentence so much?!?). But really, who wouldn't be thinking that upon this scene? Xavier stood between the Skarmory and Sableye, hoping to calm them down. Faerydae(OOC:Autocorrect keeps calling her Fairytale) snapped out of her surprise, and got an idea. If Xavier needs help, maybe offering a berry or two might calm the Skarmory down...
(If we do need the berries, let's make a plot twist: The skarmory hates the flavor and is still aggresive/shot.
Or the berries make him happy A.K.A. calm him down. Your call Syl.
Also, I must apologize for the lateness.)
"On the plus side you can prove to your mother that you're awesome when you get it to respect you," Ren replied with a small smile, trying to find a more positive side to the unorthadox gift.
"He's a beautiful pokemon though, you've gotta give him that," she chuckled.
Renata had to step back however as Syrian's Sableye and Skarmory began attacking each other, Sable trying to protect his partner from the aggressive bird.
"Arie!" she called out, knowing that her Fletchling partner had a distinct type advantage against the Skarmory's steel typing if things got any worse.
The Fletchling fluttered towards Sable and the Skarmory, using her Growl attack to cut both pokemon's attack. She was soon joined by Xavier, who threw himself between the pokemon to try and bring the attacks to a close.
"Xavier be careful," Ren sighed, though her voice still held a note of concern. Of course Zavy would be the reckless one and try and calm the Skarmory with his own power, "Felix's Grass Whistle would work better for now. The middle of the street isn't the best place for this," she pointed out, Arietta hovering in the air between Zavy and the Skarmory, knowing that her fire type move could help protect him if the need came for it. A few people had gathered on the other side of the street to watch the spectacle, and if the Skarmory didn't respond to whatever methods Xavier wanted to try then it wouldn't just be their little group of four that would be in danger, the people watching them would be too.
Syr watched in concern for Sable as her beloved partner jumped to her defense. Then her friends jumped into the action, and Syr had to bury her face in her hands from the sheer embarrassment.
"Guys, I don't want anyone getting hurt!" she called, looking at Ren's Arie in concern before turning her worried attention to Xavier, who had the bright idea of getting in between the two fighting pokemon.
"Look, maybe I should just return him to his pokeball until he's ready to calm down," Syr said worriedly, fingering the pokeball in her hands nervously.
Xavier looked at Ren when she suggested to use Grass Whistle, and looked back to Syr. He had to think about the people, and he could always try to calm it down after. The teen nodded at Syr and stepped away. "I think having it return to its Pokeball will be best for now. If you need to calm him down when we get somewhere with less people, don't forget about me!"
