PostSubject: Destined to be the Best - Team Rising   Tue Sep 15, 2015 9:30 pm

First topic message reminder :

At long last, they now stood before what Hidon assumed was where the Guildmaster stayed and where the Guildmaster was going to register them. The Charmander glanced to his side, where the shorter Taillow was standing. He had met him a little over an hour ago, surprisingly enough. Yet here they were, creating a team together. And to top it off, neither one of them were particularly fond of the other...but they certainly had to respect each other's strength. And it was that that caused Hidon to suggest forming this team in the first place. After all, if they didn't like being lower than the other, they'd fight harder to stay at the top and their strength would increase more quickly as a result.

The two had just come from the town, where they had spent almost an hour recovering from their initial encounter. They had gotten into a battle, with Pilot coming out as the victor...and Hidon with a newfound frustration with trees.

On their way into the Guild, they had been forced to ask around at the other, busy Pokémon in the Guild, who were wandering around and doing whatever the Guild Members did during the day. The Guild was somewhat straight-forward, but for some reason, Hidon had had a very tough time leading the two of them to the Guildmaster's Quarters, where he had been told was where teams were formed. But in the end, they had found the place...and that was the most important thing, right?

Truth be told, this was a moment Hidon had been waiting for ever since his arrival in Grassveil. Finally...he would get to join the Guild, get stronger, and help other Pokémon...and look great doing it!

"So, you ready for this, Pilot...?" he asked with a slight, excited grin. He had consciously avoided further teasing until their team was completely formed. The last thing he had wanted to do was cause Pilot to storm off in anger at this stage. Walking out of here, failing to even register a team, would have been rather embarrassing after all. Especially after all the help he'd needed to get in order to lead them here.

Faye was still looking a bit concerned despite the bird Pokémon assuring that he was fine, as it was clear that he was hurt. She did at least get his name out of this, the bird introducing himself as Pilot. She nodded, looking at the Charmander that had now taken to explaining and assuring that his teammate was just fine. Even though these were things she would have much rather heard from Pilot himself, she couldn't help but smile. Not because she was convinced that the bird wasn't too hurt, but because Hidon seemed to believe in the strength of the other Pokémon. Considering that the two of them would soon be in the same team...

"Well, be careful with the tea and we'll finish signing you up, dearies. You were fine with Team Rising, right?" The Meganium smiled and let out a gentle chuckle, the quill in her vine preparing to write again,
"I will be writing down your team's name here, along with your names... And that's it!" She glanced at the two Pokémon with a smile before looking back down and starting to write, the quill's tip scratching the paper gently. This wasn't the whole story of course, as there was a bit more to be done... But nothing these two Pokémon had to worry about.

When asked if the team name "Team Rising" was alright, Pilot nodded. He hadn't thought much about it, but the name certainly fit the two. They both had the burning desire to become the best explorers, and the name implied that they would rise to the top. However, hearing the team's name made the bird wonder how long he would even be associated with it. After all, he was planning on joining the Aileron Guild once he made a name for himself, and if Hidon wasn't a Charizard by then, it would be impossible to bring him along. He would have to start from scratch, creating a new team, and forging new partnerships. But if that happened, it wouldn't happen for a while, so he didn't have to worry about it for now.

Upon hearing the words "And that's it!", Pilot let out an inaudible sigh of relief, and turned the walk out. He stopped himself, however, remembering that he still had to receive his badge and whatnot from the guildmaster. The bird turned back around, anxiously twitching and preening himself (which was a nervous habit of his). He didn't want to be in the guild building any longer than he had to... Could this lady just hurry up? I wanna get out of here... The tiny Taillow whined to himself.

"That's it?" Hidon repeated, looking over at the Meganium once again while she continued scribbling in that rather large tome of hers. His tone had a slight hint of confusion. He had honestly expected a bit more to the registration process than simply getting a few names down. Why, then, did the Guildmaster bother with it if that were all that they needed? Couldn't she just get some of the Guild employees to do it for her, while she focuses on other important Guildmaster jobs?

Hidon glanced over at Pilot again for a moment, glad to hear that he was just fine with the name he'd come up with on the spot. When the Charmander turned his attention back to the Meganium, he reached one of his claws upward and scratched the back of his head somewhat awkwardly. It was strange, just sitting in silence while the Guildmaster scribbled away. Were they just...supposed to go now? Get their badge and stuff later? Or did she want them to stay while she finished? He quickly shook his head, though, and decided that the headache from thinking about it so much wasn't worth it.

"So...what now, then?" Hidon asked, perhaps a bit too casually to his new Guildmaster.

Faye returned the quill she had used to write to its holder on the desk, looking up from the tome's pages with a smile. She didn't close the book yet, letting the ink dry so she wouldn't smudge what she had just written. By now the bird was seeming to be leaving the room while his friend, Hidon, looked rather awkward standing there, unsure what would happen next. The Meganium couldn't help but chuckle gently, tilting her head.

"Now, it wouldn't be really good if I let you go without giving you a little something extra first, dearies," she replied, turning around and walking few, relaxed steps to the large closet in her room, full of items a starting team. She opened the door, but her large frame kept the insides quite well hidden as her vines grabbed a few bags and started to fill them with the usual items. For a moment she stopped as she looked at her box of ribbons, giving it some thought before her eyes settled on two colors, very nice shades of red and blue. These would do...

The bags were closed by the time Faye turned around, hanging from her dextrous vines as she looked at the pair, smiling. A bag was given to both of the waiting Pokémon.
"Here you go, sweeties. A spacious bag with your badge inside, as well as a map – and something else, a gift from me to you both," the Meganium smiled,
"We should still assign you two a room – and perhaps a little tour in the Guild could be in order?"

"Oh, well I guess so," Hidon replied. He did know that they still needed to receive their explorer's badge. But he wasn't sure what else they would be getting, if anything. And so, the Charmander watched with relative interest as Faye made her way across the room and opened the closet in the corner of the room. He had been vaguely wondering what was stored in there, but hadn't really thought about it much until now. And he soon got his answer when the Meganium finally turned away from it and possessed some kind of bag in the grip of her vine. He looked at her curiously while she returned to them, looking at the bags in her grip with intrigue.

"Oh, sweet!" Hidon suddenly exclaimed as he swiped his arm through the air. After snatching the bag, he hastily pulled it open and looked inside of it. In the bag, there were three items. And the first one was the most interesting to him. He reached in and pulled out the explorer's badge. He stared at it with an awe-filled expression. At long last...he had started on his goal of being the best explorer he could be! He had been waiting his entire life to hold one of these in his claws...and now here it was. He cast a quick glance at Pilot, who was probably looking into his own bag at this point. He might give the bird Pokémon a rather hard time, but he couldn't be more grateful to him at this point. After all, he'd been looking for a partner for at least a couple of weeks since his arrival into town. And he'd started wondering if he'd ever find one around the time that he found and battled with Pilot. He couldn't help but smile at him for the briefest of moments; genuinely rather than in the usual, boastful one.

Finally, he turned to the other two items in his bag. One looked like a rolled up piece of parchment that he'd have to check out later. The other seemed to be a ribbon of some kind. This ribbon was azure in color and looked...well, rather unimpressive. Although he did want to wear it anyway. After all, to him, it was a great symbol of his team and something to be proud of!

Finally, the Charmander turned his attention back to the Meanium. "Oh," he murmured, quickly closing the bag again. At first, he considered turning her down out of his pride and not wanting to accept such help...but then he quickly recalled how easily he'd gotten lost on the way in. He blushed slightly at the thought in mild embarrassment. "Uh...y-yeah, sure, sounds great." he said, forcing a smile and a chuckle in an attempt to shake off his self-inflicted embarrassment.

Pilot excitedly poked his head into the large bag that the Meganium had given him, temporarily distracting him from the stress of being inside of an enclosed structure. "Sweet," He murmured in awe as he stared at his badge, which was a symbol of his achievement. Finally, he had become an explorer! After being an insignificant mailbird for such a long time, it felt refreshing to be someone who mattered. Instead of relaying stupid messages for lazy Pokemon, he was going to be saving lives, and getting rich in the process! The young Taillow grinned, already envisioning the adventures that he would have alongside his new partner.

Pilot's fantasies of fame and fortune were interrupted when the Guildmaster mentioned a tour of the guild. The feeling of imprisonment instantly returned, causing the little bird's smile to falter. How am I going to get out of here? He thought to himself, but he couldn't answer. There was no way out of it; he was going to have to stay in the building until the tour was over. No excuse in the world was going to get him out without making him look bad. The Taillow sighed, put the crimson bow in his bag on, and gave Hidon an unenthused glance.

Faye nodded happily at the two Pokémon as at least one of them wanted a little tour. Often at this point, she just had to show the new members their new room they could stay at, but... Often the Pokémon that came to her room had already had a tour, thanks to the other Guild members roaming the halls, noticing the new and uncertain Pokémon quite easily. But the Meganium couldn't blame anyone, as things had gotten to be quite busy and everyone had a lot on their mind with the current events...

The Guildmaster started to walk, her large size giving her an advantage when it came to moving, able to clear a lot more ground with less work. Her steps were very relaxed however – and careful, so she wouldn't accidentally step on something smaller, her eyes constantly flicking down to her feet. Faye waited that the Pokémon were actually following her before she started making the rounds, pointing out the important parts. The bulletin board, where they could get food, other services the Guild could provide them... It was a lot to take in and unfortunately the Meganium didn't have the time to take it very slow, but hopefully Hidon and Pilot would remember bits and pieces.

"And that concludes our tour, dearies," Faye smiled, glancing down before she stopped in front of a door. Someone with good eyes might have noticed that they took another turn and didn't return to the Guildmaster's quarters, but instead another hallway that housed quite many doors that led to various rooms.
"If you ever forget where something might be, don't be afraid to ask the other members here. They are all very helpful," the large Pokémon chuckled gently before using one of her vines to push the door open. It didn't have any Pokémon in it and was rather empty, but it did have those basic necessities one needed to at least sleep in the room if they chose to.
"This room has been assigned to you two and you can do what you want to it. Many Guild members only sleep in their quarters, but you're free to stay there otherwise."

Hidon followed Faye quickly, actually somewhat struggling to keep up with her larger strides. He cast another quick glance at Pilot, once more actually feeling somewhat bad for him. This was probably even harder for a bird Pokémon. But, maybe he could use this to his advantage...? He grinned slightly at the smaller bird Pokémon. Despite the fact that he'd been the loser in their battle, he still enjoyed heckling the little guy. "Hey, Pilot," the Charmander said with a cocky grin. "If you need a hand, just let me know. I'd be more than happy to help my less-capable teammates, you know." He wanted his jab at the Taillow to be somewhat playful...but he still also wanted to see Pilot's reaction. Maybe the swallow Pokémon would even use it as motivation to keep up. But he certainly didn't think about the possibility of his teammate using this statement against him.

As the two of them went from place to place, following Faye the entire way, Hidon struggled to the best of his abilities to keep track of everything. However, none of his efforts were any good. The layout of this place was just too confusing! ...Well, for him anyway. But he made absolutely sure to focus most of his attention on the bulletin boards. After all, those were going to be the most important part of his life here for a while!

When the group finally ended in a hallway, Hidon looked around him. Even he could realize that they hadn't stopped at the Guildmaster's office. There were definitely too many doors here for this to be the same hallway. "R...right," the Charmander muttered, blushing slightly in embarrassment. Truth be told, he could hardly remember where they even were right now, let alone where everything else was! But he didn't want to admit it, so he said nothing about it. Instead, he looked at the door as the Meganium pushed it open for them. "...Whoa, we even get our own room...?" he murmured in awe as he stepped inside. He had to admit, it was rather plain...but it was better than sleeping outside in his opinion! Probably more comfortable at least.

Hidon grinned slightly, nodding to the Meganium. "That's awesome! Thanks, Guildmaster!" he exclaimed. And what's more, now that the tour was over with...they could hopefully, finally get started!

Pilot struggled to keep up with his long-legged guildmaster and his land-based partner. He wasn't built for walking; hopping around wasn't exactly the fastest way to get around. Hidon, taking notice of his limitations, decided to take the opportunity to prod at him. At first, the bird didn't respond, simply rolling his eyes and quickening his pace. The condescending tone of the Charmander's voice irritated him, but he tried not to show it. After all, since the guildmaster was right there, and he couldn't afford to look like a douche in front of her... But that gave him a wonderful idea. Since she was there, Hidon certainly wouldn't be able to take back the help he had offered, right? A sly grin crept up on his beak.

"You know, now that you mention it... I am pretty tired from the fight yesterday," Pilot started, his voice dripping with fake gratitude. His dramatic personality and acting skills were coming into fruition. Without even waiting for the fiery lizard's response, the Taillow spread his wings, and fluttered onto his head! Heehee, it's not like he can say anything with the guildmaster right there, Pilot thought, chuckling to himself, and enjoying his little ride around the guild.

Once the tour was over, Pilot hopped off of his partner's head, and almost instantly, his nervousness returned. Grateful that the tour was finally over, he thanked the guildmaster, and anxiously waited for her to leave so that he could finally get some fresh air.

"You're welcome, dearies," Faye nodded with a smile as she was thanked for her time. Oh, indeed, it had taken them a while to take the tour and she would have to get going already. The paperwork didn't do itself, after all, but she had felt that this was more important than some silly – even if important – papers. It didn't look like the new team had anything else they needed her for, so it was about time she took her leave. Hidon and Pilot would do just fine on their own, they might have needed some help while they were new, but they would soon get used to the life in the Guild...

"Now, if there's something else you ever need me for, you know where to find me," the Meganium chuckled gently with a relaxed smile, her eyes looking at the two smaller Pokémon,
"I'll be going back to my quarters now. I'm sure we will see each other later, so there's no need for goodbyes," she added, already turning around – carefully – and taking a few steps down the hall. But she stopped, glancing over her shoulder.
"Oh, and the window in your room should open, should you find the need to," Faye smiled before returning her gaze in front of her, resuming her walk back to her room.

((This seems like a good point for me to leave, thank you for the thread! Continue with the two of you if you'd like.))

Hidon had certainly not expected Pilot to turn his teasing words against him. When Pilot reacted to his statements with that sly grin of his, he was already beginning to mentally prepare himself. He gave the tiny swallow Pokémon a questioning look, which was answered only a few moments later. The Taillow had spread his wings and quickly made his way up to him. He felt the Taillow's talons land on his skull, his partner now perched on top of his head. The slight increase in weight caused Hidon to half-stumble for the briefest of moments, but he was able to keep himself up all the same. He opened his mouth to say something about it, but stopped when he remembered that they still had to look good in front of the Guildmaster. He couldn't believe this.... Pilot had him right where he wanted him. After all, there was nothing Hidon could do to protest. He had been the one to offer, after all.

"Uh...y-yeah, no problem," he said pleasantly, but quickly made a mental note to get him back for this later.

And now that the three of them were at their room, the Meganium informed them that she would be leaving them here for now. He nodded to her and thanked the Guidmaster for her services before she left. At this point, Pilot had already left his perch. If he hadn't, Hidon probably would have shaken him off himself. He quickly made sure that the both of them were in the room before closing the door. "What the heck was that for?" he grumbled. "Making me carry you all the way across the Guild like that. You know I didn't mean it like that! What, you couldn't keep up with me on your own?"

Pilot flashed a cocky grin, clearly satisfied with himself. "Well, you offered to carry me... And that's an offer that I couldn't possibly refuse," He responded smugly. "...Admit it, I'm the best-looking hat you've ever worn in your entire life," Pilot added with a cackle, picturing just how silly the two must have looked going down the hallway. Judging by the looks they had received from guild members, they must have looked absolutely ridiculous. To Pilot, this was a good thing, as they had certainly made an impression. Whether their first impression was good or bad didn't matter to him, as long as they became known within the guild.

The small bird looked around their living quarters, taking notice of the window that Guildmaster Faye had mentioned. Quickly, he darted across the room, and pried it open with his beak. "Ah, fresh air," Pilot said, letting out a relieved sigh. Suddenly, all of the tensions from his claustrophobia were gone.

Hidon grumbled slightly at Pilot's response. He had to admit, the Taillow had him there. He had no comeback. He had actually offered, even if it wasn't what was intended. And there was no obvious reason for the Taillow to refuse it, now that he actually thought back on it. His words had perhaps not been too well thought-out at the time. He had no choice but to concede this verbal duel to Pilot this time. Sometime, he'd have to figure out a way to outsmart that smug little bird, one way or the other. But today was definitely not that day; quite the opposite, actually. He pouted slightly, crossing his arms and letting out a small, embarrassed, "Hmph," at his defeat.

The Charmander's thoughts quickly went back to how he must have looked with the Taillow on his head. He had been blushing slightly whenever the other Guild members looked at them and began murmuring as they passed. He hadn't expected his first impression at the guild to be that of a mere walking perch rather than a warrior. Well, whatever. He'd have plenty of time to deal with that later on. For now, he just had to focus.

"Ah, shut up before I shut it for you." he said, obviously mostly joking around. He shot the Taillow a grin. "Besides, it's not like it's hard since I've never worn a hat before."

OOC: Your next post will finish this page, so maybe we could finish the thread there? I'd really like to start a mission, if you don't mind. =]

Pilot stared at Hidon for a few moments, wondering how he could tell his new partner that he wouldn't be around for their first day as a team. He had to get to Rainfall Town and get his psyche fixed before their first mission. If he didn't, it would be difficult for him to sleep in their room without freaking out. And what would happen if they were assigned to a mission in a cave? Oh, that would be a disaster. The bird knew that if he didn't fix his claustrophobia then, it would inevitably become an issue later. Alright, I guess I'm leaving, then! Now, how do I tell Hidon about this... He thought to himself, not wanting to give the Charmander more ammunition for their little verbal war.

"Well, I'm gonna go," Pilot chirped, turning around to face the open window. "Y'know, for stuff... And things..." He continued, struggling to come up with a valid excuse to leave. "...I've got a message to deliver to Rainfall," The bird blurted out. It was the first thing that came to his mind, likely because of his previous job as a mailbird. He shrugged, satisfied that he had come up with something, although he knew that his lie wasn't very convincing. He gave Hidon an amused glance.

Regardless of the fiery lizard's response, Pilot rolled his eyes and flew out of the window while his partner was talking. Of course, he was going to have to answer some questions when he got back, but that didn't really matter to him. Sure, the guy was technically the leader of the team, but he didn't feel obligated to actually respect him like one...

{Heheh. Sure, sounds good~}

Hidon watched Pilot for a moment, thinking about what to do from here. Sure, the two of them were truly part of an team now, but...what do they do here? He hadn't really thought about it until now, but...what did teams do? Did they just take missions day after day? He frowned slightly at the thought. Did they set aside time to train between missions? Or did they simply improve on their daily missions, growing from each challenge? But then, what if the lower-ranked missions weren't a challenge at all? There was so much he hadn't thought about before that now, he wasn't even sure where to begin. Maybe Pilot had a better idea? He nodded at the idea and smirked slightly. He opened his mouth to say something, but was interrupted by none other than the bird himself.

"...Huh?" was Hidon's terse, completely confused response. The Taillow had spoken rather quickly and was already heading for the open window. By the time the Charmander had fully processed what was going on, his teammate was already making his way out the window. "Hey, wait a minute," he said, stepping toward him. "You can't just-!" But despite his words, Pilot was already leaving. "...leave now." he finished. The Charmander stood there in silence for a moment, completely confused by the bird Pokémon's sudden, rash actions.

"...Geez, he could at least come up with a better excuse," Hidon groaned, moving to sit down on the nearest bed. He glanced down at it. Boy, he sure hoped these things were somehow fireproof. Otherwise, it'd be very awkward for him to sleep at night without setting anything ablaze with his tail.

Hidon sat there for a moment, thinking about what he should do. Well, one thing was for sure. He couldn't just sit here in their room by himself. No...he had to find something important to do. If Pilot was going to spend the day doing something on his own, then he was going to spend the day increasing his own strength. After all...he wanted to get stronger than his teammate. He had to be if he was going to be the team captain, right?

With his mind made up, Hidon nodded and jumped off of the bed, quickly moving to open their door and leave the room, making his way to the exit. And he knew the perfect place he wanted to go for training...before their team could take their very first mission.
