A House of Leaves Empty
PostSubject: A House of Leaves   A House of Leaves EmptyWed Jul 08, 2015 10:52 pm

"Well...it certainly feels like a house..." Shintara mused to herself, her head angled towards the somewhat imposing mansion-like structure in front of her. Of course, she couldn't see it per say, but with the breeze the dark clouds overhead seemed to be whipping up, it was clear for her that the shape was that belonging to a large-albeit falling apart-structure.

The Absol paced back and forth a couple of steps, muttering to herself as she thought things over.
"Yeah, yeah...I mean, there probably isn't going to be a lot of wind in there to see with, but still, this seems like where that guy said this stuff was coming from..." She glanced upward once more as she spoke, as if she were looking at the clouds. They gave off a bad feeling to her, something odd, unnatural almost. If the key to helping things was in there, then really, she felt like she should be going.

Really though, even if she wanted to turn back, she couldn't really, considering...

"You know, Tara, it might be better if we stick together." She turned around at the sound of the voice, noticing as Nate seemed to catch up. The Pikachu gave a bit of a wry smile as he walked, stopping and waiting to make sure his second companion was keeping up. Truth be told, the electric type wondered if this was a good idea. After all, he had never really met either pokemon before. He had literally just met both Shintara and Synd'r in Grassveil, and decided to tag along with them.

Was it not smart? Probably. Was it better than going to some creepy possible source-of-darkness mansion alone? Definitely.

"R-right, sorry about that. I got a little bit excited, I guess..." The Absol sheepishly nodded and chuckled, looking away in embarrassment. Shaking his head as well with a chuckle of his own, the Pikachu turned back and glanced around.
"Synd'r? Keeping up?" He questioned, looking back to see if she was still with them. He had given Tara some crap for running off, but admittedly, he sorta had too once the Absol had.

A House of Leaves Empty
PostSubject: Re: A House of Leaves   A House of Leaves EmptyWed Jul 08, 2015 11:50 pm

Synd'r padded towards the mansion behind both Nate and Shintara. She was being cautious around both strangers, not knowing much about them but figuring that their strengths could likely come in handy if she found herself in a pinch. This unnatural feeling place was unfamiliar after all, and with the reason they'd all been drawn here in the first place it was only natural to be a little apprehensive about what one might find here.

Honestly, Synd'r was less than intimidated by the foreboding atmosphere that the trio found themselves in. If anything, the mystery of the place made her a little excited. She could practically feel the excitable tingles from the tips of her tail to the ends of her paws. Whatever dangers they were walking into, it was likely something that very few others had ever experienced. And with such legends attached to the place, Synd'r could only hope that within the mansion's depths might be something for her to keep as a souvenir. Treasure perhaps?

All in all it was her tremendous curiosity that had brought her here rather than a desire to help those who were suffering back in Grassveil Town.

The Vulpix glanced up at the darkened sky. They reminded her of the clouds that would foreshadow rain or snow. It was almost a shame that they weren't going to tip a relentless amount of moisture upon them... though Synd'r would have preferred the gentle descent of a flurry of snowflakes.

Synd'r was pulled from her snowy thoughts by the voices of Nate and Tara deciding that it would be a good idea to stick together. She remained cautiously silent until one of them, Nate, asked her if she was keeping up.

With a small smile of amusement, the Vulpix replied, "I'm still here. Not crazy or anything yet either," she added, morbidly reminding them of the bizarre illness that had brought the odd mansion to everyone's attention. It was entirely possible that the mansion itself was the source of the illness if it was also found to provide the cure; like dock leaves and nettles that always seemed to grow side by side, one serving as a remedy for the stings of the other.

PostSubject: Re: A House of Leaves   A House of Leaves EmptyThu Jul 09, 2015 12:15 am

Nate seemed to have a more positive reaction to Synd'r's remark than the Absol standing beside him did, as he cracked a smile and chuckled a bit. Shintara frowned slightly.
"W-well, maybe it might be a little bit too soon for that kind of stuff, y-y'know?" She remarked, thinking about what had been happening. Of course, pokemon really were going crazy and stuff, and of course that was happening at the same time some sort of dark clouds had been gathering. Why was it that bad stuff always came in with darkness? Was darkness really that bad?

"Eh, maybe, maybe not. But, too soon or not, the sooner we head on inside, the sooner this stuff might be over, right? Then we can all sit back and think fondly...or, well, not so fondly, about it." The Pikachu shrugged slightly, turning away from the two, stepping up to the looming wooden doors to the Chateau. He blinked and glanced over them, as if slightly confused, pacing a few steps back and forth, as if looking for some kind of secret.

As he did so, Tara blinked and looked back to Synd'r, deciding to try and make some conversation with the Vulpix. Preferably less awkward conversation.
"So, uh, wh-what do you think is gonna be in there?" She asked curiously, putting on a slight smile as she tried to push the initial joke aside in her mind. When she asked, Nate returned to the center of the doors and rubbed his paws together, taking a deep breath before gingerly knocking on the door with one.

It swung open. The Pikachu blinked.

"Oh. Well. That was easy." He laughed a bit simply from the relief of not having to do anything special with it, glancing back at the other two and waving them over.
"Well? Are you coming?" Nate asked, grinning despite the rumors about the place and the ominous tones coming off of it, from the combination of rumors and the dark clouds.

A House of Leaves Empty
PostSubject: Re: A House of Leaves   A House of Leaves EmptyThu Jul 09, 2015 12:42 am

Synd'r held back a quiet chuckle at Nate and Tara's quite different reactions to her words. Maybe it was a little too soon to be taking things so lightly but that just wasn't Synd'r's style. The Vulpix quelled her chuckles and watched the Pikachu as he wandered back and forth in front of the chateau's wooden doors. Her brown eyes followed his movements for a moment, before the Absol attempted to strike up a conversation with her.

The Vulpix paused for a moment to consider her reply. After a few short moments she flicked her ear and grinned, "Expensive furniture? Some dust too probably. It's a mansion after all."
Before she could add anything more to the list, the sound of Nate knocking on the wooden doors greeted Synd'r's ears. She looked up just in time to see the door swing open of it's own accord and blinked, reacting similarly to the Pikachu himself.

Accepting the invitation that was Nate's wave to come over, Synd'r followed the Pikachu into the chateau, a barely suppressed smile gracing her features as they made their way inside. Now this was more like it!

A House of Leaves Empty
PostSubject: Re: A House of Leaves   A House of Leaves EmptyThu Jul 09, 2015 1:30 am

"Y-yeah, I suppose you might be right with that. I've never really seen..." Tara hesitated for a moment. "Been to a mansion before." She corrected herself, jumping slightly as she could sense the door swing open, turning her head towards its direction quickly out of surprise at it. As Synd'r and Nate headed on inside, the Absol hesitated for a moment, but quickly trotted over towards them, catching up as the trio entered the doors.

The interior of the room they had found themselves in appeared to be a fairly good sized foyer. The wooden floorboards creaked underneath their paws, showing signs of aging, and some holes were even visible in the floor of the rectangular room from cracked and broken floorboards. In the middle, a staircase rose up to meet the back wall, creating a platform with another staircase on both the left and the right going upward, leading to a balcony stretching across the left and right sides of the rooms, with one door on each side. Vines rose up on the wooden walls, tangles in the planks, as if nature itself was fighting to tear the room down from the inside. As a matter of fact, a few small trees seemed to poke up from beneath the ground as well.

The door swung shut without any prompting, causing both Nate and Tara to jump, the former turning around to notice that it had shut. He paused for a moment and whistled.
"Alright...well, we're in. Right in the creepy, run-down Chateau." He remarked, taking a few steps forward and glancing around at the scenery. It didn't seem like a lot of light managed to make it in, providing a rather gloomy and dark atmosphere.

"Hey, Synd'r. You think you could give us some lighting?" Nate questioned, looking to the Vulpix. Tara blinked and turned around to the two, as if surprised at the fact it was dark, but quickly looked away once more, attempting to hide her reaction.

A House of Leaves Empty
PostSubject: Re: A House of Leaves   A House of Leaves EmptyThu Jul 09, 2015 11:16 am

The Vulpix glanced around the interior of the chateau, taking in it's ruined and dilapidated state. It was interesting how even young trees had managed to invade the inside of the mansion, pushing through lose floorboards in their bid to reach the sunlight that lay through the roof above them. It was almost sad how the place had fallen into such disrepair, since it looked as though it could have been quite the stately mansion at one time. However, there was something so innocently beautiful about nature reclaiming the place, vines tangling themselves around everything that the mansion's original owners had built.

As Synd'r took a step forward, the door swung shut behind them. She couldn't help but flinch at the sudden sound, but decided to pay it no heed for now as they -or at least she- hadn't intended to leave any time soon anyways.

Synd'r wandered forwards, her eyes more well adjusted to the dark due to how often she would work and play through the night as a youngster. Creepy, as Nate had said, was definitely an accurate way to describe the place, though the atmosphere didn't seem to bother Synd'r. Flicking the ear behind which she wore her three striped feathers, the Vulpix followed the tangles of vines with her brown eyes, scanning the area for anything of particular interest.

Jolted from her thoughts, she turned to Nate who asked her if she could provide some form of lighting. She caught the Absol's short look of surprise before nodding with another flick of her ear.
"Sure."

Padding over to one of the trees that had pushed it's way up through the ground, Synd'r poked around for some sort of dry firewood. Finding something to her specification, she rolled it away from the tree and towards Nate and Tara. With quick precision, the Vulpix then proceeded to light the end of the wood using her Ember move. The small lick of flame took a few seconds to latch onto the wood, but soon the end was burning and provided them with a makeshift torch.

Leaving the torch for one of the others to carry, Synd'r turned back to the chateau's foyer.
"The secrets of the world are truly astounding," she commented absentmindedly, continuing with a tone that held only a subtle hint of the Vulpix's awe.
"How does somewhere like this just become a mystery dungeon?"

A House of Leaves Empty
PostSubject: Re: A House of Leaves   A House of Leaves EmptyThu Jul 09, 2015 8:39 pm

As the Vulpix ignited the stick, the sudden burst of warmth that came from it gave the Absol another slight surprise, making her inch back a step. After all, solid objects were things she could sense a little, if only barely in the currently fairly enclosed room, but fire? That wasn't something she could really sense, except for feeling the heat once it got nearby.

"Beats me." Nate shrugged as he stepped forward and picked up the makeshift torch, being the only one of the three that could really handle it in a way other than holding it in his mouth. Keeping a good grip on it, he turned around and got a good look of their surroundings, squinting as he did so.
"From what I've heard, most mystery dungeons happen in natural places. Maybe this place got so run down, whatever...thing...that makes a place a mystery dungeon got confused." The Pikachu suggested, before giving a slight chuckle.
"Just look out for ghosts. And watch your step."

"W-wait, did you just say ghosts? Did he say that?" Shintara blinked, turning her head to Synd'r after she had asked the first question, as if expecting her to confirm it for her. Honestly, she probably should have expected those kinds of pokemon to be around considering the reputation.

"Relax a bit, I'm just messing with you. But yeah, maybe. I think there are a couple of doors up there, up the stairs." The Pikachu responded, taking a couple of steps towards the stairs and looking up, checking to see if anything would be there waiting for them.

A House of Leaves Empty
PostSubject: Re: A House of Leaves   A House of Leaves EmptyFri Jul 10, 2015 12:47 pm

Synd'r couldn't help but chuckle lightly at Nate's suggestion. The idea that nature could get confused just as any other pokemon was almost comforting in an odd way. Of course there was no way to confirm the rules of the formation of mystery dungeons but for now the Vulpix was content just to call it one of nature's mishaps.

An amused smile graced Synd'r's features at Shintara's reaction to the mention of ghosts. She hadn't even needed to say anything to heighten the poor Absol's nerves as Nate seemed to be doing a good job all by himself. Though the Pikachu didn't seem to have any malicious intent behind his actions, the entire situation seemed to entertain the Vulpix in some primal way.

Synd'r opted to lead the way up the staircase, her brown eyes scanning the balcony above. As she glanced away to check her footing, her sharp eyes caught sight of something moving in the darkness of the upstairs. Attention quickly switching to this movement, Synd'r paused for a brief moment before speeding up slightly to reach the midway point where the stairs split in opposite directions.

With a dark chuckle, Synd'r began to move up the left set of stairs, catching sight of that movement once again, it gravitating towards the centre of the upstairs area. As Nate would draw closer with the torch, they'd inevitably shed some light -literally- on the situation.
"I believe that we are not the only ones in the room anymore," she commented with a sinister smile as she made her way up onto the balcony to investigate the movement. Synd'r was rather enjoying the eerie mystery of this place, even if nothing much had really happened yet.

A House of Leaves Empty
PostSubject: Re: A House of Leaves   A House of Leaves EmptyFri Jul 10, 2015 6:24 pm

As she didn't seem to get any response on the subject, Shintara sighed and let Nate start to walk up behind Synd'r, heading up the stairs last as she muttered a couple of things to herself.
"Yeah, this was such a good idea. Head to the creepy mansion, completely enclosed space, great idea..." She remarked, doing her best to keep her cool as she followed the others.

Nate stepped up to the first platform and waved the torch by the wall, glancing back and forth as he searched for anything of interest. There didn't really seem to be anything that he could tell, though. As he looked, the Vulpix's next observation caught his attention as he turned towards the way she had gone, holding the torch forward and stepping towards the stairs.

The Absol with the group happened to hear the observation as well, her nose twitching as she searched for anything. Stepping up onto the first platform, she turned towards the corner of it, tilting her head in curiosity. It was dark, and while there wasn't much of a breeze the holes in the floor did provide a slight air flow, giving her the hazy idea of some kind of orb-like object sitting there. Curious, she stepped over and looked at it, rolling it out from the shadows with her paw.

"Well, let's see if anyone wants to come out and chat then, huh?" The Pikachu cracked a slight grin as he stepped up the left stairs, catching up with the Vulpix as he went. Slowly inching a bit closer to the edge of the balcony, Nate held the torch out a bit, hoping to catch sight of what was there. And...

Nothing.

"Huh. Well, alright-"

"Eeeeee!" The Pikachu jumped and turned around, waving the torch to find a Gastly hovering just by the stairs, cackling at the two. Next to it, two more pokemon began to materialize, speaking as they did so, both being Yamask.
"Welcome, strangers! Or are you..." The next one picked up where the last had left off.
"Trespassers, maybe? Or guests? How..." The second Yamask left off, waiting for the fourth member of their little quartet to materialize and continue. But...

"ACK!" Having finally taken notice, the Absol still on the platform practically jumped out of her skin in fright. Turning to face the trio, she moved so quickly and suddenly that she felt her paw strike the orb she had found, launching it up in the air, and directly at the second Yamask.

The orb hit, and the Yamask disappeared.

Synd'r's expression turned to one of confusion as Nate waved the torch to find nothing there, only to nearly jump out of her skin at the high pitched 'Eeee!" from behind them only a few moments later. The Vulpix may have emitted an embarrassing squeak of her own in surprise, but if anyone ever mentioned it she would deny it for the rest of her life.

Her fur successfully hiding any blush from her embarrassment, Synd'r regained her composure as two other ghosts appeared one by one, speaking and appearing to continue each other's sentences. It was almost like a practiced routine, as if these ghosts had done this before.

However, just as the fourth member of the ghost quartet materialized, Shintara seemed to catch up with what was going on. All of a sudden a red tinted orb flew forward and one of the Yamask was no longer there, something clattering onto the ground below where the Yamask had been floating. There was a very brief silence before the fourth quartet member -a Shuppet- dared to look down. The look of horror on the Shuppet's face was nothing compared to the look of rage that followed, directed at the Absol.

"WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO TO HIM?" she yelled, emotions flickering between anger and panic.

Synd'r blinked, using the brief silence to collect herself and try to work out what had happened. Parting her jaws, she fired a small flicker of flame to where something had landed on the stairs after the Yamask's disappearance. It was some form of item....
As the flames flickered out again, hiding the complete nature of the item from view, the Vulpix's eyes widened and she glanced back up to the remaining three ghosts.
"An itemizer orb..." she began, trailing off.

She had heard of such orbs, but had never seen one in action. The orbs were rumoured to physically turn an individual into an item... which appeared to be what had happened here. The Vulpix couldn't help but shiver at the idea. Was that really the truth behind the orbs?

As the orb flew through the air and made contact with one of the two Yamask, the Pikachu froze, watching the vents unfold in front of him. Had they really just accidentally turned a pokemon into an item? Was that really something that could happen just like that?

Shintara didn't seem to be faring much better as the realization of what she had accidentally done began to set it, looking up at the Shuppet with just a bit of horror herself.
"W-well why would you just jump out and s-scare us like that in the first place?! If you h-had just come on out easily, that w-wouldn't have happened!" She made an attempt to defend herself, her voice almost as panicked as the Shuppet's herself. The other Yamask and the Gastly looking down at where their other quartet member must have fallen.

"This is very troubling." The Gastly remarked rather calmly, the other Yamask hovering close by.
"Most troubling indeed." It stated in return, as if the two of them hadn't properly registered things.

"Wait, hold on a second." Nate butted in, wanting to try and stop things from getting too heated, if they hadn't gotten to be so already.
"Maybe...maybe he hid in some kind of item? Ghosts can do that kind of thing, right?" He questioned, trying to be hopeful about the situation as he stayed where he was, not wanting to swing the torch to find out what item had been left there just yet, considering the other ghosts were still hovering.

The Absol's reply didn't seem to do anything but make the Shuppet angrier, a stark contrast to the reactions of the two others that remained of their quartet of ghosts.
"That's no excuse!" she shrieked at Shintara, unwilling to believe that this had just been a stupid accident. Something so life changing couldn't have such a simple explanation, not when none of them could do anything about it. It meant she had no one to take out her revenge on, no one to blame.

At this point Nate seemed to butt into the conversation, Synd'r remaining silent as the hysteric Shuppet attempted to cope with the fact that her friend was now an item, a Dusk Stone to be precise.

The Shuppet began to laugh, though not a warm laugh like one responding to a hilarious joke, but a wild laugh that only spoke further of the Shuppet's distress.
"Hid?" she shrieked, turning to the Pikachu, "Then where did that come from!?" she yelled, motioning with a jerk of her head towards the dull purple stone that had clattered to the ground as the Yamask disappeared.

Before the argument could get any further, Synd'r finally took a step forward, resisting the urge to roll her eyes at the Shuppet's rather dramatic reaction to her friend's current state. Of course, it was natural to react in some way when your friend was practically killed in front of you, but at the same time such a reaction was hardly going to help the situation.

The Shuppet seemed not to notice the Vulpix's step forward until Synd'r spoke, her tone low and borderline venomous.
"Shuppet!" she called, not knowing the ghost's name and so addressing her by her species' name. The pokemon in question seemed to snap to attention almost immediately in surprise at the interruption of her shrieking.

The Vulpix released a small flicker of fire from her barely parted jaws, staring into the Shuppet's eyes. With a flick of Synd'r's ear, the lick of fire traced a circle in the air between the two, the Shuppet's eyes following it to completion before drooping closed under Synd'r's stare.

Unable to stay awake any longer, the Shuppet floated to the ground, asleep on the stairs from where Synd'r's hypnosis attack had worked it's magic. The Vulpix smirked smugly. She hadn't been sure if the move would work as Shuppet were often found to possess the Insomnia ability. Luckily this time around that didn't seem to be the case, and the Shuppet's hysteric shrieking was calmed into soft snores as she slept on the stairs.

"That's a little better now, isn't it," she commented, flashing Nate and Tara a small smile and flicking her ears in relief that the Shuppet had been quietened.

PostSubject: Re: A House of Leaves   A House of Leaves EmptySun Jul 12, 2015 7:26 pm

For the remainder of the conversation, Shintara seemed to freeze up and look downward, not saying anything and inadvertently leaving the other two to do the talking. As Nate continued to listen, he began to frown at the sound of the Shuppet's laughter, taking a step back. Something was definitely wrong with her, he figured, like something had snapped once that Yamask had gotten turned into an item. Looking down at the ground and taking notice of the stone, the Pikachu gulped slightly.

"Oh...that's an excellent question, actually...good point..." He spoke in a somewhat blunt and monotonous tone, still just as surprised at the situation as he had been before. The Vulpix's next actions caught his attention and snapped him out of it as he watched the fire fox pokemon hypnotize the Shuppet into some sort of slumber. Hopefully, it would last for a bit.

"Good heavens. She quieted down." The Gastly remarked, keeping the same tone as he had previously carried. The other Yamask nodded, looking at the item and the sleeping pokemon on the ground together.
"Indeed, I wasn't sure she would." He added, agreeing with the other pokemon.

Even as things seemed to calm down, Tara continued to let her head hang downward, shaking slightly.
"Did...did I just...? Is he...?" She began to stammer out, her eyes wide. Sure, she had fought before, she even enjoyed it all. But still, she had never killed anything before. And even then, this hadn't been fair. There was no chance for him to defend himself. Just one second, and he was instantly an item. It...it wasn't fair.

Nate looked to the Absol and back to Synd'r, frowning slightly as he thought about what to do.
"Uh...look, let's just keep moving, alright? That's all we can really do right now." He suggested, managing to keep a calm tone as he stepped forward and picked up the stone, careful to try and avoid waking the Shuppet. Would he have to report Tara to the guild for that sort of thing? It was an accident, but still, she pretty much...well, she practically killed him.

With the hysteric Shuppet now silenced, Synd'r's gaze rested on the remaining Yamask and the Gastly as they spoke. They were an odd duo that was for sure, but they didn't seem to have any intentions to attack her and the others as of yet. Deciding to remain cautious for now, the Vulpix turned her attention to the shellshocked Absol.

Watching her carefully, Synd'r noticed that Shintara was shaking. It was barely noticeable, but there. Blinking, Synd'r considered her options, wondering what she ought to do since Tara was pretty much a complete stranger to her. She had to admit it couldn't be very nice to have essentially murdered someone, and by such a stupid accident no less. It was likely the Absol had never seriously hurt anyone else before either...

Flicking her tail and averting her gaze for a moment as she watched Nate pick up the Dusk Stone, the Vulpix spoke, aiming her words at Tara.
"It's not your fault," she said simply. Because it wasn't. Not really. The Absol hadn't meant to use an itemizer orb and probably hadn't even known that's what the orb was before it was too late.

A House of Leaves Empty
PostSubject: Re: A House of Leaves   A House of Leaves EmptyThu Jul 16, 2015 1:08 am

The Vulpix's words seemed to pull Tara out of her stupor as she looked up towards the fox pokemon, blinking and nodding her head somewhat uneasily.
"Yeah...yeah, I guess, but..." Before she could finish, the Absol shook her head.
"Nevermind.." She cut herself off, deciding to try and abandon the topic for now.

Looking away from the two, Nate held the torch and glanced around the balconies a bit, thinking about their possible courses of action.
"Well, there's a door on both sides. I figure we start with one, make our way through, then try out the second one?" The Pikachu suggested, holding the Dusk Stone in his other paw and turning back to the other two, mainly directing his thoughts to Synd'r. After all, Shintara didn't exactly seem to appear like she was in a state to make decisions.

"I suppose we should stay here, to make sure she wakes up somewhat calmer." The Gastly remarked, as both it and the Yamask seemed to be in their own little world, debating with each other.
"I would hazard a guess that that would be precisely why we shouldn't stay here. After all, what if she wakes up upset?"
"And you suggest we leave a member of our little quartet behind?"
"Isn't it a trio now?"
"...egad, you're right. But that isn't the point..."

The two seemed to continue droning on like a bickering pair, leading Nate to glance back at the two of them, staring a bit awkwardly. Out of habit, he began to toss the Dusk Stone up and down in his paw, temporarily forgetting what it used to be. Tara didn't seem to forget, however, picking up on the air being pushed around by the item being tossed up and down. She blinked, staring silently almost with a bit of disbelief.
"Or...we could always ask them for help." The Pikachu suggested as another idea, oblivious to the Absol's reaction.
