What a cold and bitter night this was. Unforgiving towards the small murkrow that was trying to shiver himself to sleep near small pond. Linus could feel his entire body shaking uncontrollably, as he waited...and waited...and waited. A slip of paper had been crumpled into one of his talons underneath him as he sat there, waiting. The note couldn't be true, it couldn't! She would not leave him here like this, she would come back! She would come back an apologize, take him home and keep him warm on this cold winter night.
Unfortunately, she didn't return. Linus had waited for hours, until at last the cold was getting to be too much for the little crow. He stood up, surveying the sky once more. The only thing different about it was the small flecks of snow that were beginning to drift down. Linus looked down to the letter in his talons, the letter from his own mother that had simply left him here, on his own. He knew that she meant to do what was best, but he could not believe that his mother had simply up and vanished, just like how she had described his father to have done.
The small crow, sniveling slightly out of self pity, took to the skies. He needed to find someplace warm. It was obvious his mother was not coming back, and he needed to find shelter else he would freeze to death. He left the small pond, and found his way to Grassveil. He spotted something called an "Inn", it seemed to be the only place in the area with lights on.
Curious, Linus drew himself closer to the Inn, peeking through a window that had no glass to separate the inside from the out. Within the building, was a rather lively setting that made him shy away towards the edge of the window slightly. It was filled with pokemon, happy pokemon, loud pokemon, big pokemon, small pokemon, all kinds of pokemon. They all seemed to be celebrating something, and the only source of light was a large fire in a fire pit structure in the center of the room. The the flames seemed to dance with the movements of the dancing pokemon, it seemed like the perfect setting for a work of art!
The crow gazed at the setting in awe, forgetting about the large group of pokemon that he was near, and only focusing on the sways, movements, lighting, and color that the place beheld before him. He felt a growing urge to paint this exact scene, but alas, his coyness would not allow him to ask of them to halt their celebration and hold still so that he could go get a canvas and paint. He would have to burn this image into his mind, try to remember every single little detail, so that he may reconstruct it on a canvas at a later date.
Although he had forgotten his previous sorrows and coyness of the crowds, his ears did not fail to hear the magical words that would always catch his attention, "Let me tell you a tale,"
His head snapped in the direction his ears heard the source, to spot a strange looking creature of the darkness such as him, an Umbreon. He hopped into the inn, everything that had prevented him from entering the warm building being forgotten for the sake of a tale. The murkrow flapped his wings as he landed himself in the rafters of the building, a drunk golbat also occupied the same loft, but it was ignored for the purpose of hearing the tale being told below.
The umbreon was speaking of a great legend, one about the creation of all pokemon. This umbreon was speaking to an audience of younger pokemon, but Linus listened in with more attention to the story than the younger ones below. The umbreon went on and on about this creature named Arceus, and that it was thanks to him that this world exists, and how every pokemon was made by it, and how it loves all and demands worship of all, sending those who don't to this horrible place called the distortion world.
Linus tilted his head, noticing a bit of a contradiction. If this Arceus character loved all, then why would it send them all to a terrible place? Despite the doubt, Linus listened on. The Umbreon had no proof that this was real, but there was also no proof that it was not as far as Linus knew. What if there really was a pokemon like that? Should he be making some kind of offering to it each day just in case? Should he-
His thoughts were abruptly interrupted when the drunken golbat's wing suddenly struck him from behind as it was attempting to get up. Linus fell to the ground below, in front of the listening circle and in front of the story teller. They all began to stare...and stare...and stare.
Linus swallowed and lifted himself to his feet, his talons were still clinging to the letter his mother had left him. He found himself frozen, things had suddenly stopped moving as the group stared at him for what felt like hours but had actually been a few seconds.
"You alright mate?" the umbreon asked.
That was all Linus needed to be scared into moving. He gave a fearful squawk and attempted to fly away, running into many pokemon and upsetting many tables along the way and attracting more and more attention. Linus finally found the door to the outside, and made his way out as fast as possible, his wings sore from bumping into things as they carried him away from the enraged voices that were no longer jovial and celebratory.
He flew as far from the Inn as he could, however still remained in Grassveil. He landed on the chimney of some pokemon's home, shaking from both fear and cold. His sorrows returned to him and egged on his fears, causing him to weep once more. He cuddled against the chimney's side and covered his weeping expression with his wings to hide his face and to keep himself warm. So there he sat for the rest of the night-cold, scared, and alone.
