PostSubject: The Island Mystery   Thu Jan 01, 2015 3:01 am

First topic message reminder :

The cool lake breeze brushed past the purpled-haired monkey as he shouldered his custom-made napsack composed of leaves, twigs and grass. He'd set out half a day ago to make his way to this peculiar island following a curious summons addressed directly to his tree dwelling in Pecha forest. It still wasn't clear who sent it or why, but the letter requested his help and he couldn't help but be drawn to the adventure. Of course, danger and excitement wasn't really his thing, but life in Pecha had grown stagnant and a change of scenery was exactly what he needed. The only problem was... He'd reached the last branch before the edge of the lake.

Cracker stared down at the forest floor where it transitioned from tall grass to a thin bar of sand leading into the water. It had been a while since he'd last set foot on solid ground, and he wasn't particularly looking forward to it. Safety was in the trees for him, and he just couldn't get over the texture of grass and dirt, with all those little twigs and bugs to snap and squish underfoot. Still though, the Aipom had come this far, it wouldn't make sense to give up and turn back now.

Wrapping his tail around the branch he stood on, Cracker closed his eyes tight and dove off backwards, swinging in a short arch before letting go and landing firmly on his feet. Immediately the prickly sensation of the grassy ground shot up his legs, making him dance uncomfortably. "Ooooh, why does it have to be so pointy!" he whined, shifting from one foot to the next as he quickly raced towards the shore. The sand was moderately better underfoot, but the way it squished between his toes made him shudder nonetheless.

With his tail hand, the Aipom reached into his pack and pulled out the little letter he'd gotten, perusing it once more. The neatly written words said: Please, help me. You're my only hope. Fallen Leaf Copse. That was it, no details beyond where to go. It was kind of exciting, actually. Like a mystery.

As he stood on the small beach, Cracker's feet sank into the squishy sand, the occasional wave of water helping to bury them. He could see the pathway leading to the island nearby, but the Aipom was considering an alternative means of transportation. One that would get him off his feet in particular. Shaking the sand off his feet, the monkey began scavenging pieces of driftwood scattered across the shore with the intent of constructing a boat. As he worked, Cracker started humming a terribly out of tune song.

Akuroma sighed, "Alright kids, playtime's over," the Gallade said as he stood up, towering over the three Pokemon as he walked into the scene. Before the Deerling could do so much as blink, the Gallade lifted them up by their heads. "You two really are nasty little things. He honestly just wanted to see if you wanted to trade for the leaves. But no, you wanted to fight.' the Gallade said, tossing and turning the Deerling in his hands as they struggled, making exaggerated gestures to sling them about.

Despite this, the Phantump still didn't move, as if he didn't care what happened at this point. Akuroma stared at the Ghost type. "What's your problem? I'd at least expect you to be a bit more considerate of your own allies." The Phantump was silent as he stared back. The Gallade frowned, his fists erupting into electricity. As the two Deerling screamed and writhed in pain, the Gallade and Phantump simply stared at each other.

The Aipom was grateful when Akuroma finally decided to step in, but the two Deerling were anything but. As the Gallade made himself known, the two locked eyes on the tall Pokemon and immediately stopped their assault. For a moment it seemed like all the color drained out of their fur as their jaws hung open in terror. Frozen by fear as they were, Akuroma picked them up by their heads with ease, immediately spurring a bout of frantic struggling as the two cried.

"Oh dear sweet Arceus! It's him again! It's him!" the first Deerling whimpering, twisting and contorting its body desperately.

"Please, please don't hurt us! We're sorry! We didn't mean it!" the second one begged, flailing with fear as both of them were tossed about in Akuroma's hands.

As his friend waggled the Deerlings' terror-stricken bodies about, Cracker sat up and shook himself off, rubbing the bruises where hoof had met flesh. He felt like a bit of tenderized meat. Those Deerling really had it in for Outlaws, but it seemed now they'd changed their tune upon encountering Akuroma. In fact they seemed genuinely horrified after recognizing him. Could these two be the pair Cracker and the Gallade had helped early on? They looked the same, even acted the same. Granted they were more brutish this time around when it came to the Aipom.

He hadn't seen the Phantump last time though. And it was still looking on silently. Even Akuroma was put off by the Pokemon's complete lack of interest in the events that had been occurring. Cracker hopped back to his feet and peered at the Phantump, keeping a safe distance in case it suddenly decided to beat on him too. Instead though, it just stared blankly, eyes focused on nothing.

Then they shifted onto Akuroma. "Aku. Short for Akuroma no doubt. You're the Outlaw." The Phantump stated as it began to glow with a dark, purple aura. His black eyes shimmered for a moment and the aura transferred to the Gallade as the Phantump used Curse.

Akuroma blinked as he looked at the aura around him, feeling nothing as of yet. "Hm, that tickled, did your move not work, little Phantump?" the Gallade said with a smirk. The taller Pokemon tossed the two Deerling away, his fists erupting into electricity, "Now its my turn." Akuroma charged forward, slamming his fists into the Phantump's body, the Pokemon seeming to do nothing to dodge. Most likely the Ghost type spent too much energy casting its curse on Akuroma, and as such was at the mercy of the Gallade's attacks.

Akuroma continued to beat the Phantump around, sending a barrage of punches and kicks to the Pokemon. Then suddenly, Akuroma stopped, grabbing a hold of his gut and grunting. "Gah...the hell?" he mumbled to himself as the pain passed away. Akuroma straightened back up, checking his body for any injuries. "Weird..." he said before he looked off at the Phantump, who was unconscious, the two Deerling now shakily standing over it to protect it.

"Tch, give me the leaves and we'll be off. Next time, try not to be so quick to a fight when it's possible to simply trade." With that, the Gallade nodded his head at Cracker, signaling him to approach the Deerling.

Cracker watched quietly as the Phantump's glow transferred to Akuroma, but when nothing else seemed to happen the Aipom tilted his head. Was the attack a dud? Maybe the Phantump wasn't very strong. Whatever the case, the Gallade proceeded to toss the Deerling away and pummel the Pokemon without so much as breaking a sweat. At least until the end of his flurry of attacks. Once the Phantump was rendered unconscious, Akuroma appeared to be struck by something. It only lasted a second though, and he seemed just as confused as the monkey was.

Whatever had happened, Akuroma seemed fine now, so he offered a word of advice and signaled for Cracker to approach the quivering duo and their downed companion. Although hesitant after his last beating, the Aipom obliged, taking several steps forward as the Deerling huddled near their bruised friend. The monkey crept closer and closer, until he could reach the leaves with his tail. "Sorry, guys," he said apologetically. "But I really hoped it wouldn't come to this. All I wanted was a trade." To prove himself, the Aipom pulled two blast seeds from his backpack and placed them on the ground after he extracted the leaves. "See? Fair trade, right?"

With the leaves in hand, Cracker returned to Akuroma's side and handed him the leaves. He was smiling on the outside, but he couldn't help feeling a little bad for the traumatized Deerling and their weird companion laying unconscious on the ground. This must've been the sort of interaction Akuroma dealt with daily. Only with more beatings and even less compassion. "I think we should go," Cracker suggested, already making a move off the path.

Akuroma took the leaves, placing them with the others in his bag. He then began to follow the Aipom, holding his hand up in a small wave, "See ya, explorers, next time make sure you're up against someone within your own league," the Gallade said. After several minutes of the pair walking through the woods, Akuroma groaned, bending over as he placed his hands on his knees to keep himself steady. "Nngh, the hell is with this pain?" the Gallade grumbled to himself. He forced himself to stand back up straight, trying to ignore the pain until it disappeared once more. What was this pain coming from, it couldn't have been that move the Phantump used, could it? Akuroma began to try and think of what moves caused pain like this. He knew he wasn't poisoned or burned. He didn't feel confused, either. Though, then again he probably wouldn't know if he was confused.

The pain struck him again, bringing the Gallade down onto his knees as he groaned loudly. "Arceus damn this pain..."

Glad to let the trio go and carry on, Cracker's mood picked up again. Forgetting the encounter he'd just witnessed and participated in, the Aipom began bouncing along on his tail again, humming a song out of tune. Several minutes passed for the two Pokemon when the Gallade abruptly doubled over in pain. The monkey came to a screeching halt, kicking up a whole mess of leaves as he twisted around and rushed over. At first he had no idea what was happening, and so it seemed neither did Akuroma, but another wave of pain brought him quickly to his knees.

Worried, the Aipom came closer and looked him over. "What's wrong, Aku? Are you hurt? I don't see any wounds." Beginning to panic, Cracker raced circles around the downed Gallade in search of anything that could be causing his friend this mysterious pain. To his knowledge the Deerling hadn't harmed him in any way, and the Phantump never even laid a hand on him, aside from that weird glow. Wait... "It was that Phantump, wasn't it? He did this! But what is it? What did he do to you?"

"Probably and I've no idea. I don't remember reading anything that causes pain like this. It's not like being burned or poisoned at all," the Gallade said as he slowly stood back up. The pain disappeared once more as quickly as it had appeared, causing the Gallade more confusion. "It's disappeared again..." he said, checking himself for any injuries. Thinking the worse of it over, the Gallade began to continue walking down the path, only to find himself back on his knees a few steps later. "Gah, we're not gonna make any progress at this rate," Akuroma hissed between his clenched teeth.

Akuroma was right. There were no indications of burns or poisoning on the Gallade's body that either of them could see, but when he tried to move on again, he was struck down by another wave of pain. Cracker rushed over to him with concern, unsure of what to do. This wasn't the sort of thing he was trained for by the healers of his home village. Not that he could remember much from those boring classes anyway. Whatever had happened to his friend, perhaps only time would heal it.

"Maybe we should make camp for the night," the Aipom suggested, coming up beside the Gallade. "It's getting pretty late now. Maybe a good night's rest is all you need. What do you think?" Already firm with his idea though, Cracker started picking up sticks to make a fire. The sun had begun the early stage of setting for the night, casting a strong orange glow over the entire forest as he moved about. "We're far enough from those Deerling and Phantump, so we should be safe for the night."

Once Cracker had gathered enough sticks in a pile, he set about making big fluffy beds out of the leaves scattered across the forest floor. There was more than enough, after all. In no time at all he had Akuroma's bed all made up and ready, after which he moved onto his own. He didn't normally sleep on the ground, but a big poofy bed of leaves was too interesting to pass up. He'd slept in trees in much the same way, so it couldn't be too bad on the ground.

Akuroma would have objected, but with the pain still coursing through him and the Aipom already preparing a fire pit and beds made him hold his tongue. However, the Gallade did notice something in the Aipom's leaf-bed. "Cracker, looks like your- Nngh..." Akuroma groaned, another wave of pain shooting through him. "Your dumb luck found us another leaf," the Gallade said after a moment of silence, pointing at the leaf.

The Gallade sat up against a tree, taking a few deep breaths before he forced himself back up, moving himself closer to the fire pit the Aipom made. reaching out with his hand, the Gallade's hand shortly erupted into electricity until he pulled it back, the sparks lighting the fire. With that, the Gallade scooted back onto his makeshift bed. However, he doubted he'd be able to sleep with the pain.

As he fluffed up his bed in preparation for sleeping, Akuroma, still groaning from his mysterious pains, pointed out a leaf that had become part of the pile he was forming. Following the Gallade's finger, Cracker spotted it immediately and yanked it free. It was another blue leaf. "Well, how about that! We're that much closer to our goal! Heehee!" How he hadn't noticed it while making the bed was astounding, but then he wasn't the most attentive of individuals. Or perhaps he was just hyper-focused on his task. In any case, he cradled the leaf, carrying it over to his friend as he moved closer to the fire-pit.

The Aipom quickly stuffed the leaf into Akuroma's bag, jumping back in surprise when the Pokemon produced sparks to light the fire. "Wow! I forgot you could do that. That saves me rubbing two sticks together for a hour, thanks!" With the fire lit, Cracker took off in search of more sticks to burn, preferably larger ones. In his search, which lasted only a few minutes, he found several sizeable pieces of lumber, and a tiny Blast Seed to boot.

Beaming, Cracker tossed a log onto the fire and sprinkled leaves from the edge of the fire into it. He was quick to separate the blaze from the leaves around it, lest he cause a forest fire in this brittle wood. Finally he surrounded the crackling flames in stones, to further protect against an unintentional bonfire. This wasn't his first camp-fire. He'd set up many camp-sites in his youth, though rarely on the ground. Containing a fire in a tree was lot harder.

As he finished up his task, he watched Akuroma groaning in the bed he'd made. He was still very clearly in pain, and the sky was beginning to darken. The Aipom thought for a moment and came up with an idea. Hopping over to the Gallade he peered down at him. "You gonna be alright to sleep? If not, I know a little trick my Gram taught me. Well... not so much taught. She used it on me so much that I sorta picked it up. I can knock yah out with a few pinches and you might have a better sleep. What d'yah say? There is a downside. You'll be out cold for at least a couple hours. Which means I'll be on my own until then. But it should be fine, we're in a bit of a hollow here, so no one should see the fire."

Akuroma grimaced at the idea of being out cold. He didn't like the idea of relying completely on the Aipom, either. However, he hadn't much choice. If the pain were to fade by morning, it'd be best of Akuroma could sleep through it. He sighed to himself, "Alright, but let's bury my bag first. While there's still some light, I want you to go up to the top of the trees and memorize where this place is relative to the coast of the island. That way that if we happen to be moved from here for any reason, we can return and find my bag." With that, the Gallade gave the Aipom his bag to bury.

Cracker could see in the Gallade's face that he was hesitant about the idea, but eventually he conceded, provided the Aipom hide his belongings first. With a big grin, he scooped up the bag with his tail and stood firm with a salute to his big purple forehead. "You got it boss! You can count on me!" the Aipom declared.

With the bag in tow, the Aipom hopped across the clearing in search of the perfect hiding place. Granted, any spot with a good pile of leaves would work, but Cracker wanted to find somewhere extra secure, so he kept looking until he found a crater-shaped hole in the ground. It didn't go down very deep, but it was big enough for the sizeable bag, so he gently plopped it into the divet and hurriedly buried it with leaves until it was level with the rest of the ground around it. Perfect! Nobody'll ever find it here! he thought, patting the leaves flat.

Once the task of hiding the bag was completed, he bounced back over to Akuroma where he lay in the makeshift bed. He still had to scout the area, but the Gallade didn't need to be awake for that. Besides, he was in enough pain as it was. "Bag's hidden good. Nobody'll find it! Ready to go to sleep?" Cracker didn't really give him a chance to respond though. "Now, it may not work right away. I'm kind of rusty. But I think it goes like this."

Raising his tail into the air, the Aipom folded two of the three-digits on its beefy tip and rapidly jabbed at the Gallade three times; once on the left side of his neck and twice on the right in the space between it and his shoulder and then at the base of his skull. There was a momentary pause as Cracker's tail withdrew. "Did it work? Are you still awake?" he asked, unsure at first, but when Akuroma failed to respond, he assumed success. "Excellent! Now, to scout!"

Bouncing up onto his tail, Cracker launched himself upwards into the nearest tree, grabbing onto the first branch he could reach with his long, dexterous appendage. Then, using his momentum, his propelled himself further up into the tree until he was near the top and could see above the foliage. There he clung to a bundle of thin branches, surveying the area.

He could see the lake to the North, which must've been where they entered, but everywhere else was already consumed by the night. That should be easy to remember. Affirmed of their position, the monkey began to climb back down the tree, but as he did so, he could hear a rustling on the forest floor below. Curious but wary, the Aipom swung down lower to get a better look. As he did so, though, a pair of Deerling burst out of the foliage and ran towards the campfire. They stopped simultaneously and turned to face a Wurmple that had emerged behind them.

Wow, are those the two Deerling from earlier? he pondered quietly, watching as the Pokemon stared one another down. They don't look the same... As he watched, the bug-type attacked with String Shot. Both Deerling daintly avoided the attack, but they didn't respond with force. Instead, they hid behind the fire.

"Leave us alone!" the first one called nervously. "We don't want any trouble! Please!"

(Note - Draco has given me a House Orb because a wurmple is a boring note to jump in on.)

Near the area in which the aipom, gallade and random pedestrians were currently located, a glaceon and a vaporeon were traversing the copse together.  They had been walking for a while and had begun to bicker.  That's just what happens when you travel with an inconsiderate, rude glaceon for an extended period of time.

"Where are we?", the vaporeon questioned.

"Fallen Leaf Copse.", the glaceon responded.

"You know that's not what I meant."

"I do, but that doesn't change my answer."

"You don't know where we are, do you?"

"Of course I do.  We're wandering around aimlessly until something interesting happens."

"But we've been wandering all day, can we at least rest?"

"You want on my team, you're gonna have to prove you can hold your own and keep up with me.  I don't want you to end up getting hurt."

"But I'm thirsty...."

"How can you be thirsty?  You're literally MADE of water."

"I'm not completely made of water....  Just more than most."

"Well, I don't know where-", the conversation was interrupted as the glaceon overheard something not too far away.

"What?  What is it?", the vaporeon questioned, with no response.  "Hey!"

Finally, the glaceon noticed her questioning him and responded, "I hear something."

"....That much was obvious."

"Come on!"

"W-wait, where're you going?"

"To see what's going on."

With that, the two started off in the direction the sound was coming from.  As they neared the source, Sova, the glaceon, slowed his pace to be able to keep himself quiet.  Skylar, the vaporeon, followed behind and did the same.  The two quietly crept forward, the glaceon spotting a wurmple through the foliage as he was the one in front.  It seemed to be attacking some helpless innocents, so he decided this was a great time to see if Skylar was a wuss.

"Go knock that thing out.", the glaceon whispered.

"Wha- I don't wanna just go knock it out....  That seems so.... hostile.", the vaporeon whispered back.

"Smack it."

"Can't I just try talking to-"

"Smack it."

The vaporeon huffed and crept forward, her tail taking on a metallic color as she prepared to use Iron Tail.  She stood up and walked silently towards the wurmple, brushing past a bush and causing the bug to notice her.  As it turned, she spun and smacked her tail fin into its face with a loud metal *clang* sound. It wasn't quite knocked out, but it was knocked onto its back and at least temporarily immobilized.

Meanwhile somewhere nearby, some idiot had just dropped a House Orb and doomed everyone in the area. RIP.

In response to being smacked by a Vaporeon, the Wurmple began to stumble around as it attempted to get back up. However, it wasn't alone for long, as several other Pokemon appeared in a flash created by the house orb breaking. Several Wurmple, a Cascoon, a Beautifly, a Phantump, a couple of Teddiursa, a Furret, and an Ursaring all found themselves facing the two Deerling, the Vaporeon, the Glaceon, and the currently passed out/sleeping Gallade. It's time to play Akuroma Defense!

Cracker was ready to intercept when he first saw the Deerling in trouble, but before he could even think to move, a Vaporeon jumped out of nowhere and clocked the low-level Pokemon. Down but not out, it wobbled awkwardly. None of this would've concerned the Aipom really, if an unconscious Akuroma wasn't amidst the fray. And it only proceeded to get worse. Somewhere nearby there was a flash of light and then, without warning, multiple Pokemon materialized in the clearing, surrounding the Gallade and the Vaporeon.

Suddenly things had gotten a lot more dangerous, and unable to defend himself, Akuroma relied on Cracker to defend him. This was no good at all. Some of these newcomers looked pretty strong, and just about all of them looked mighty angry at having been removed from wherever they'd come from. Their first reaction was to target whomever they thought responsible. The Gallade was naturally one of the targets, but so was the Vaporeon.

The three Wurmple were the first the engage attack. The trio seemed to know each other as they stuck close and charged the sleeping Gallade. The monkey's eyes widened in panic as he frantically leapt from the tree and round-housed all three of them with his beefy tail. The bugs scattered from the blow, but in striking them as he had, he'd alerted the Phantump and Furret to his presence. Before he knew it a Confuse Ray was coming his way, with a Quick Attack following close behind. He narrowly avoided the first attack but it left him open to the second.

"Wait wait!" he yelped before the Furret sent him tumbling backwards. "What the heck is going on?!" The monkey jumped back to his feet and shook himself off. The Ursaring and its Teddiursa offspring had targeted the Vaporeon, while Cracker moved to stay between his attackers and a snoozing Akuroma. "This was a terrible idea," he groaned. "Without Aku, I'm toast!" And he wasn't sure he could rely on this water-type that had appeared, either. At least the Cascoon and Beautifly hadn't decided to randomly attack either party just yet.
