On the Trail of Treasure...Maybe Empty
PostSubject: On the Trail of Treasure...Maybe   On the Trail of Treasure...Maybe EmptyWed Jun 04, 2014 10:02 pm

The moon loomed in the sky above the flooded flatlands, the murky waters in the area preventing it from reflecting too much in the water. Preferring to stay on moderately dry land, a certain Pikachu walked along the marshy land, feeling the ground squish in somewhat with each step. Recently, a Xatu had come into Grassveil Town, and delivered a riddle to practically everyone. It was something about a veil of white hiding a sea of fire, which held a treasure nobody else had touched. It was pretty vague, but Nate figured it was something worth checking out.
Now, as for why he had picked Cattail Marsh to go to. He had figured that maybe a veil of white could mean the mist in the area, and as for the sea of fire, he had a hunch on it being a bit of a metaphor maybe. He couldn't go alone though, and so he decided to invite Violet to tag along. He was finding that he enjoyed visiting her and hanging around the Oshawott, so maybe working together to find this could be interesting.
Speaking of that, though...
"Violet? Still there?" He asked, looking around. The Pikachu had gotten so caught up in exploring the area, he had lost track of her. He looked around, glancing to see if he could find her.

Nate: 13/28 energy.

"Yup!" the Oshawott called out, hopping over a particularly squishy piece of land to reach the Pikachu. She may have been a water type but she wasn't the most eager to get herself stuck in the marshlands by standing in a pete bog after all.
When Nate had asked her to tag along on his exploration, Violet had only been too happy to oblige. She enjoyed the Pikachu's company after all and it wasn't very often she truly got to explore as she was so often swamped with clients from her dojo. As much as she loved teaching others, the Xatu's arrival had given her a very welcome break to take some time for herself.

"So what was the Xatu's riddle again?" she asked Nate. She hadn't had chance to go and see the psychic type herself before Nate had invited her to come with him on his own exploration and so hadn't heard him recite his riddle for herself.

Nate smiled as he saw Violet hopping over to him, pausing so that the two could regroup. He listened to what she was asking, remembering that she probably wouldn't have time to have heard the riddle and looked down at the ground thoughtfully, trying to remember it as accurately as possible.
"It was something like 'Hidden by a veil of white, a sea of flame you will find. Untouched by any hand, a sacred treasure enshrined'. Yeah, that's what it was." He explained, looking around the area they were in. Nothing that looked like a sea of flames yet. Then again, that was part of the challenge of the riddle. If finding a sea of flame was so easy then somebody else would have found it by that point. Someplace like the desert would be way too easy in his opinion.

Violet listened closely to Nate as he recited the Xatu's riddle.
"Interesting," blinked the Oshawott thoughtfully, "So you think the mist in Misty Mire is the 'veil of white' Xatu speaks of?" she asked, seemingly realising why the Pikachu had chosen this place to explore over the hundreds of other mystery dungeons that littered the world they lived in.
"That seems like a good hunch actually!" she grinned, testing the ground in front of her with one foot before hopping over it, judging it to be too squishy to stand on without sinking in. She had to admit, the idea of finding a treasure before anyone else did was rather exciting!

He nodded his head, following behind Violet and watching as she tested the ground. The Pikachu hopped over the land as well, sticking close by as they continued on their way.
"I figure it might be a good guess. There are a few things a veil of white could be, but Cattail and Misty Mire are pretty close by, and it couldn't be too much of a hazard to just check it out a bit." Nate explained, testing the ground ahead to see if it would be too soft to walk on.
"I'm not too sure about the sea of flames bit though. I have a guess, but nothing really definite." He continued to say, walking ahead on the ground.

"I can't say I have much of an idea to input on that part," she replied, "The only thing reminiscent of a sea of flames nearby I can think of would be Furnace Peak, or even the desert. But I can't see a tie in for the veil of white," she mused, voicing her thoughts out loud as they continued onwards.
The Oshawott remained silent for a few moments as she continued to think, hoping to help her friend in some way with the quest for treasure.
"I suppose in a metaphorical sense it could mean the glowing tails of the Volbeat and Illumise that gather around here... though that might be stretching it a little," she suggested.

The Pikachu silently continued on as Violet voiced her thoughts, letting her talk everything out with herself, chuckling somewhat as she finished.
"Yeah, I know, it really is a stretch. But in my mind, everyone is probably heading out to Furnace Peak and all those areas. I figure we either go there and find out someone else found it before us, or we check out a new place, right?" He commented, looking down at the ground as he walked to make sure to avoid any softer, wetter patches of land. Truth be told there were other reasons he had decided to pick this place to check out. But despite the fact that he had chosen to go there, the whole water issue still stood. Nate wasn't a fan of water, and he didn't think he would be, at least for a while. So he was a bit paranoid about slipping up somewhere.

Violet nodded at Nate's words. It made a lot of sense really. After all, pretty much every team in the guild held knowledge of Xatu's mysterious riddle, as well as any other pokemon who had been present in the square to hear his words. Before she could reply to the Pikachu however, she caught sight of  something floating in one of the deeper pools of water nearby. Curious, the Oshawott wandered over to see what it was, fishing what appeared to be a ribbon out of the murky marsh waters.
Stretching it out across both paws, she brushed the dirt and foliage off it, identifying it as a Diet Ribbon.
"Well I wouldn't exactly call it treasure but I found this," she commented, turning back to Nate with the ribbon in hand. Just as she did so, something caused a large burst of water to spout upwards nearby, before a Pokemon with skin chiefly shades of blue leaped out of the water next to Nate.

Lifting his head as Violet seemed to wander off, Nate watched as she retrieved the ribbon from its place of rest in the water, nodding his head in response to her statement.
"Well, I don't think it's the treasure we're looking for, but it's still valuable I bet." He remarked, smiling as she turned back towards him.

The sound of a sudden splash behind him was quickly followed by a figure landing on the ground near the Pikachu. Before he could even respond to it, the Pokemon darted into him with swiftness, ramming into Nate and knocking him over into the water with a Quick Attack. The Pikachu yelled out in surprise, hitting the water and flailing about, trying to keep himself above the water with kicks. As this occurred, the Frogadier seemed to turn its attention to the remaining Oshawott, hopping closer towards her with speed.

"Nate!" called Violet as the Frogadier leaped out of the water, ramming into the Pikachu and knocking him into one of the marsh's pools. Reacting quickly as the Frogadier turned it's attention on her, she used Copycat, copying it's Quick Attack move to dodge out of the way. Left behind at the end of the white trail that marked where she'd moved from, Violet had abandoned the ribbon she'd found moments earlier in favour of using the tools she was more used to.

Turning swiftly, Violet used Water Gun, intending to use the force of the water to push the Frogadier some distance away in order to give her enough time to try and help Nate out of the murky water.

Through his splashing, the Pikachu heard Violet call out to him, though she seemed preoccupied with dealing with the Frogadier. As he flailed a bit in the water, he felt something, a clump of land that must have broken off from the wetter portions of the marsh, floating in the water. Quickly grabbing onto it, Nate held it tightly, using it to keep himself above the water.
"I, uh, I should be fine for now! I'll try and help out from here." He called back over to the Oshawott, stuttering slightly. His cheeks sparked up as he started to aim for a Thunder Shock attack, trying to be careful as to not hit Violet as he lined up an attack. The Frogadier seemed to be caught off guard by the Oshawott's sudden burst in speed, surprised that he had missed and taking the force of the Water Gun. It pushed him back a bit, but other than that didn't seem to do much serious damage to him.

Nodding to herself with a small smile after hearing Nate call that he was fine, Violet turned her attention to the main problem in question. Using the still active Quick Attack to her advantage, she sped towards the Frogadier once again, noting on the way that the Pikachu's cheeks were sparking with charged electricity. Hoping to catch the Frogadier off guard a second time, she leaped over it's head just as she drew in close. Landing neatly behind it, Violet took out her scalchop to swiftly strike at her opponent from behind, leaving the front open for Nate to attack if he wished to.

Keeping his eyes on Violet, Nate couldn't help but feel impressed by her ability in combating the Frogadier. Once she had gotten behind it and slashed it, a bolt of electricity shot out from the Pikachu, meeting its mark in the frog pokemon's front. The Frogadier was a bit more hurt by the super effective attack, the force of it throwing the pokemon back towards Violet. As he used his attack though, the clump of land began to disperse in the water, falling apart. As it did, it revealed a TM Defog, which Nate picked up as he struggled to find something else to hold onto.
"Not fine, not fine!" He yelled over, once more kicking to try and keep himself afloat as he searched for another handhold.

The force of Nate's Thundershock knocked the Frogadier into Violet, in turn pushing her into the water. The Oshawott hadn't quite judged the timing of when Nate would release his attack correctly. Luckily, water wasn't too much of a bother to her and so she swam out from underneath the Frogadier, leaving it for now, and clambered back up onto the grass.
Scalchop back in place on her chest, Violet glanced around the area. Upon hearing Nate's yells and splashes, the Oshawott ran over to help him find a handhold in the marsh pool. However, before she could get there, another opponent rose out of the water with a large splash. This time it wasn't just a Frogadier, but a Greninja.

There was a moment of panic-well, extra panic, considering his situation-as the Frogadier crashed into Violet, knocking the two into one of the various pools of water in the marsh. However, he tried to keep his mind on his own situation, telling himself that she could take care of herself in the situation, and on top of that, he figured she was much more accustomed to water than he was.

His thoughts were confirmed as she climbed out of the water, heading in his direction. Nate had a moment of slight relief in the middle of his panicked flailing in the water, which was quickly interrupted when something jumped out of the water behind him. The rippling water shook the Pikachu around, and pushed him under the water. He quickly held his breath, at least knowing to do that as he began to kick, attempting to move towards the surface of the water.
