Gone In A Flash! - Page 4 Empty
PostSubject: Gone In A Flash!   Gone In A Flash! - Page 4 EmptyFri Mar 21, 2014 8:50 pm

First topic message reminder :

There the Charmander had been, his eyes staring up towards the seemingly serrated beak of a ferocious predatory bird. Its screech, shrill and strident, still rung in his eardrums as he stood toe-to-toe with it. Its intentions had been clear: the fresh duo of Cyrus and Ares were meant to be the main course of its meal. At the last possible second, just as he had prepared to charge towards the beast with an enlarged chance of slaughter, a bright flash had blinded him. He would release a yip of shock and surprise - something quite out of the ordinary for a creature like himself - and everything went dark.

His memory processed the aforementioned information as it slowly rekindled its awareness. It connected the dots and filled in the missing information with what little there was remaining in his short-term and echoic memory. As his body slowly progressed back towards its mortal and conscious state, he would notice quite a peculiar change in the air. Behind sealed eyes, the rays of sunlight that streamed down upon his face caused circles of varying colors to pop up. There was a fresh aridness to the atmosphere - as if they were high up in the mountains - and a soft breeze that gently licked at his face. Ares hazarded an attempt to sit up, and found that his body willingly complied. He was alive, and that was good.

Slowly, the lizard's eyes would slide open and promptly narrow in retaliation to how lit up this area was. He glanced around, unsure of his surroundings. Where the hell were they?

The Onix rocked slightly as the white-furred creature carved a rivet under the brute's eye. Those dark eyes locked onto the Absol as it landed gracefully at its flank, only to be replaced by another which latched to the tyrant's side like a tick, clawing and snapping. Boulders clicking furiously, the king slammed into the far wall once more to dislodge the impertinent trespasser. The abused wall groaned and cracked, but the Absol had already leaped to safety on the back of the beast.

Cyrus meanwhile had no idea how handle this. Common sense told him to take this opportunity to get to safety, but his feet would not obey. They rooted to the ground as he stared up in wonder, absolutely fascinated by the way the Absol worked in perfect harmony with one another.

PostSubject: Re: Gone In A Flash!   Gone In A Flash! - Page 4 EmptyMon May 05, 2014 6:40 am

Whatever these creatures were - for Ares only saw them in brief bursts - they were more than capable of handling the titanic sized creature that lumbered before them like a cumbersome oaf. Their horns and sharp protrusions seemed extremely sharp; this was proven by the attack performed by one of the white-furred warriors. Its attack had successfully been landed upon the hulk and had left a large, long laceration upon its rocky body. The dog-like animal had followed through with its attack by momentarily resting upon the wall, and it maintained this position by sending its claws into the hardened surface. It was swift to react when the behemoth attempted to squash it, and simply projected itself off of the wall with a gallant leap. Once more, it would allow dark energy to bubble about its horn as it attempted to slice into its surface.

Ares was not one to remain stationary and gawk. Though at first he had been hypnotized by the agility and battle prowess possessed by these warriors, he could not help but feel that he owed it to Cyrus to successfully get them out of there. He pivoted upon the spot and made a mad dash for the Grass-type. He would attempt to grab hold of his fellow's wrist, as if this was persuasion enough to convince him to make a hasty retreat.

White shapes were emerging from the mist all around them, dashing alongside them left and right; eyes glinted through masks of dark fur, a dozen glowing horns laced with power. Cyrus' insides plummeted sickeningly. Why had these Absol shown up now, so conveniently? Were they to be corralled like Mareep into a pin? Pain exploded under his ribs and the snake cried out, pressing his free hand against it to stifle the throbbing.

Behind them the pack seemed to be succeeding in driving the Onix back. The mountain king let out an earth-shaking bellow of rage  as the Absol who was dancing tallied another scar into his hide. The first Absol turned back to look at the colossus, raising its head high. As it did so, the others surrounding the beast closed in. The Onix then knew better than to stay; he had never been on good terms with these Absol, for they were the only ones on the mountain who could challenge his power. And so he left, retreating to lick his wounds in the depths of his territory.

This was all lost to Cyrus, who only cared about getting as far away from any living thing as possible. Far too late, it seemed, for now the Absol had surrounded them. More hopped down from the canyon to cut off the narrow pass.

As Cyrus released a cry of pain, Ares would release his grasp upon the other's arm in shock. He had no intention of causing the other pain - even though this was most likely not a byproduct of his attempt to help the Snivy retreat - and thus withdrew his hand from his wrist so that he might attend to his own injuries. He was tentative to treat him with what little he had, for his mountaineer-focused medicine was honed in upon an individual's ability to recover from an injury and not assisting; natural selection at it's finest. What little he could do was to simply protect his companion from further harm, and that was something he was already doing a terrible job at.

Slice after slice, laceration after laceration, the white-furred creatures were tormenting the Onix. It was eventually driven back, and, as it retreated with great speed, the second creature that had appeared would move closer to the first. It was upon closer examination of the stationary targets that Ares would recognize the build of an Absol, the same species of Tsukiakari. They were powerful enough on their own, but in a team? They had just proven how unstoppable they were.

Ares's heart hammered in his chest as soon as it became apparent that they were this group's new focal point, and he would look left and right to identify any threats. His arms had moved behind his back so that he might hold onto Cyrus in a protective manner, and a snarl warbled in his throat. He was not going to die to a pack of these disaster-bringing freaks, and thus would issue them a warning. "Stay back!" he half exclaimed, half growled, "I will not hesitate to strike!"

"You got spirit, lad..." said low, growling voice from within the pack. The white-furred creatures parted, and an Absol with a goatee of long, grizzled gray hair and many scars lacing his crooked snout, peered down at the two travelers, eyes hard and black as obsidian. "Head full of rocks, too. We're a hundred `mon strong. We could cut you all down right here an' leave your bones to turn to stone, an' nobody would ever find you. So tell me again if you're dull enough to challenge us."

Cyrus' heart was thumping uncontrollably. He lowered his eyes but did not relax at the grizzled Absol's words, nor did he move to challenge them.  There was truth in the beast's words - fighting was hopeless. Their best bet was to appeal to these pokemon and hope that they would show mercy.

"Forgive my friend," he began uncertainly, "we're grateful to you for chasing off that Onix..."

Something caught the Snivy's ever-searching eyes as he spoke. Short as they were on supplies, he would be sure to pick it up as soon as they got out of this mess.

Gone In A Flash! - Page 4 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Gone In A Flash!   Gone In A Flash! - Page 4 EmptyTue May 06, 2014 4:50 am

The agitated Charmander had been greeted by an ancient, war-torn Absol with casual threats. If there was one thing that indicated experience upon the battlefield, it was scars. Each one had an individual tale behind it, and each one could owe its heritage to some splendid event. Though at first Ares would have maintained his aura of impervious aggression, he had his spirits dampened by the sudden appearance of this grizzled veteran. The number of scars upon his face indicated a Pokemon well acquainted with danger and a master of fortitude: facing off against him would be a single sided battle. This did little to hamper his outward appearance, however, and he was more than willing to continue with the facade of undeterred hostility.

Just as he was about to speak, Ares was cut off by the diplomatic Cyrus. The Charmander's reptilian gaze would shift its focus upon the snake that he was so adamant on protecting, and was thus brought under a shortened leash. He would hold off on his aggression for now, but would chance grabbing an item off the ground so that he might be able to protect himself should the time arise...

The old Absol snorted. He paced circles around Cyrus and Ares, sizing them up almost hungrily. He stopped at the Snivy's words and looked at him as a long, curling grin snaked across his scar-laced muzzle. "Har! Hear that, boys? He thinks we fought off The Stonelasher fer him!" said the dark type, throwing his head back to look at the pack behind him, which rippled with mocking laughter. The old one joined them for a moment, but then all the merriment fell from his face and he snarled, "We didn't do it for you, boy. Ol' Stonelasher has been pressing our territory since before you squirmed out yer mum's belly."

The knot in Cyrus' chest tightened. If the Absol decided to strike, then it was over for him and Ares. They had come too close to die now. He stirred and stepped closer to Ares, ignoring the rising panic in his chest, the dread he had been fighting since they had first been knocked off their feet by the Onix - by Stonelasher.

"And you're no better. You've stepped over the line, lads. You'll go no further," continued the old one.

Cyrus racked his mind for excuses, pleasantries -anything to get them both through this. They both owed it to each other to see them through to the village. He would not have Ares throw his life away in one of those valiant standoffs he had such a penchant for. "And we don't intend to, my lord," he muttered, "we only want to get to the village at the top of the mountain..." Despite the overwhelming dread lumped up in his chest, the grass type's voice did not waver.

Ares did his best to maintain his façade, but such was an impossibility when one was faced with a particularly salty crew. Though he would have gone hog-wild if the Absols had been using their mocking laughter towards him personally, he was still quite put off by how they attempted to demean and belittle his traveling companion. If there was one thing he learned from being on this mountain, it was to keep your allies close - particularly those who had traveled with you before. As he clenched the newly obtained fabric in his claws, he couldn't help but cultivate respect and disdain for their savior; he had never known such a sensation or sentiment was possible.

If there was one thing he absolutely despised, however, it was being told what to do by someone who he deemed having no place to do so. Though he admired this hardened veteran, he could not allow him to dominate his spirit. As such, his growl was renewed and he opened his jaws to voice his opposition; however, once again, Cyrus beat him to it and offered words that were much kinder and more diplomatic than the one's he would have used. All he could do was act like the Snivy's chained up guard dog and stand by helplessly as his owner attempted to get them out of trouble.

Cyrus sized up the pack for a moment before smiling pleasantly and taking a step back. Underneath his cool demeanor, the grass type seethed. Like Ares, he wanted nothing more than to be powerful enough to stand up to these brutish mountaineers - to drag the respect out of them by force. He bit his lip, testing the words on his tongue before he made them and finding them woefully inadequate. "I can see you men will not be easily persuaded. Very well! Wise men never are!" he said at last, clapping his hands together merrily, "Let me give you some council, brave Lord of the Mountain. Never forget that you are mortal -"

Here he was stopped again by a gravelly snarl, "You've a death wish?!"

" - and a mortal would do well to have allies -"

"We don't need no allies!"

"Nonsense. All tribes do. You think you're the only ones who can live in these mountains? Sooner or later kingdoms will come and they will tear your mountains down looking for gold and gems and glory. There is a thin line between bravery and stupidity... Tell me, do you really think you could take on a whole army if it came here?"

Cyrus felt winded again, this time not just because of his fractured rib. At last he seemed to have gotten through to the gruff old Absol. The beast stopped and narrowed his eyes, then he grinned and leaned in til Cyrus and Ares could feel the heat of his breath.

"And what... does all that have to do with us splittin' ya open?" he said, sotto voice, as a wicked grin wrinkled his scar-laced snout. Admittedly, Cyrus was pushing their luck here, but what other choice did they have? Go back into Stonelasher's territory and face him down again? They wouldn't be able to escape a third time. No, the only way to go was forward!

PostSubject: Re: Gone In A Flash!   Gone In A Flash! - Page 4 EmptySun May 11, 2014 11:23 pm

Where Ares seemed to command brute force with his fists and claws, Cyrus apparently commanded it through his actions and words. While some are born with the inability to be deemed worth of admiration, this Grass-type was certainly worthy. His words were rehearsed and well thought out - even if it were a prompt exchange - and seemed to be capable of swaying a Pokemon's opinion quite easily. No wonder why the Charmander had found himself coming to like the serpent: he was a prince worth his salt.

While the two continued to exchange their conversation, the young drake was preoccupied by determining their odds of successfully getting out of this. There were Absols on all sides, and each looked as if they were part of some elite faction; their fur was long, flowing, and glossy and their muscles rippled seamlessly beneath as they shifted their upon their legs. They were like well-groomed gentleman's horses, trained and skilled in their art of patience and obedience; undoubtedly, the mere command or silent gesture from their leader would spur into them an unfathomable rage and desire to eradicate. Ares's eyes would once more shift to the leader, and then came a very pregnant question: what did it have to do with their own fate?

"I would highly doubt you would like more enemies," came the Charmander doing his best to act with hostile diplomacy, "and killing emissaries sent to you from faraway nations would do you no good; particularly ones that were nurtured and reared in the crucible of war."

The leader's triumphant grin withered into a bitter snarl at Ares's words, and he stepped back to consider this. The mountain was their birthright; they would fight to the death for it if they needed, but despite his rugged exterior, the veteran cared for the well being of his clan. Stubborn as the old leader was, there was truth in what the whelps said, and it troubled him deeply. His frown deepened, and he bared his teeth in displeasure.

"We don't need no treaties from warmongers or fat kings on their pretty little Thrones..." he replied, but stepped back and motioned to the pack with a tilt of his horn, "Hammu, Tauna. Take this lot to the edge of our land. An' make sure they don't try nothin' funny."

Two more Absol emerged from within the pack. The first was stout, with strong legs and thick mane; the second, long legged and graceful with a horn that looked like it had been forcefully serrated. They snapped as they flanked Cyrus and Ares, shoving them forward none too gently. The rest of the pack would make way for the guards, but their eyes still gleamed with bloodlust. Behind then the old leader turned and snorted. Cyrus was only glad that he had not been too perceptive, and his xenophobia made him more interested in getting them out of his sight than thinking through what they had said. He had not asked about terms...

The Snivy would turn and nod at his companion, swallowing the brief heart attack he'd experienced when the Charmander had spoken. That was too close... At least now they might have a chance to get to the village alive.

Gone In A Flash! - Page 4 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Gone In A Flash!   Gone In A Flash! - Page 4 EmptyMon May 12, 2014 5:47 am

Ares was all too familiar with this sort of treatment, particularly when it was fetched from a sudden realization that invoked fear in a leader. He had witnessed how his people treated their prisoners fetched from the fields of battle and ruin, and had seen how the fear of imminent rebellion had caused them to be degraded to the level of chattel. They were but prizes that had been wrestled from the grasps of a lesser nation, and were to be treated as objects that the procurer could do with as he so pleased: they had no heritage, honor, or dignity as soon as they had been placed under chain and yoke. To be treated as such was to pledge war, and was an act worthy of vengeance. As he was forced forward, defiance glinted in his eyes as they gleamed and narrowed in the light of the rising sun. Their hostile focus was quite evident, for this leader was a clear target for his rage. His people would not be humiliated like this.

The forceful shove was what eventually severed his connection to the veteran, and he stumbled forward slightly. His arms moved to catch and balance himself, and he was soon on the march with his companion. Ares's face was hardened, dour, irate: he felt himself insulted by having to be escorted like a prisoner - a commodity - of war. Something crunched beneath his feet, and he stopped momentarily to fetch it, only to receive as forceful jab from the lean guard that walked by his side.

As they trekked through the mountain with no idea whether they would come to harm, or even where they were going, Cyrus couldn't help but feel at a loss for words. Unlike Ares, he wasn't used to being handled this way. His life was far from cushy with all the politics and power struggle, but it was outwardly a comfortable life. He was woken up by servants, dressed, cooked for. He didn't have to do anything himself, and nobody was allowed to speak to him unless spoken to. Now all that was behind him. Surprisingly, he didn't miss it as much as he thought he should; this was just another step in the grand scheme of things. Sooner or later he would have had to face trials to better himself anyways. So when the Absol pushed and shoved, the Snivy's poker face only broke for a second of shock to protect his damage ribs before he collected himself and moved on.

It had been a couple minutes, and the collective was now out of sight. Cyrus' feet dragged rifts in the gravel underfoot as he struggled to stay on two legs despite the thinning air. He'd gotten it this far, but without the rush of adrenaline to keep him going he could hardly think of anything but the ache in his chest. He wasn't going to last much longer. Just ahead he could see something gleaming, and when they reached it he seized his chance.

Staggering, the prince fell to his and and knees and coughed hoarsely in the through of very real pain, to which the Absol responded to by kicking him harshly on his uninjured side. That was his chance. With the guards distracted by his display, he shielded the item with his torso and herded it out of sight. When he got to his feet, he'd wink slyly at Ares. Acting - it was a useful tool.

Gone In A Flash! - Page 4 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Gone In A Flash!   Gone In A Flash! - Page 4 EmptyThu May 15, 2014 7:24 am

A disc had found itself in his possession, and it was an all too familiar sight. No doubt about it: this was the same type of technical machine that would not yield its secrets to him. Where he had anticipated something particularly valuable - such as iron or some sort of metal - he had found an object for which he had no use. Fantastic. Of course, this was not to say that Ares would willingly part with it; quite the contrary, bobbles such as these were as precious to him as gold veins and jewels. Hoarding was, after all, a curse that he was forced to bear, and such objects that glinted and glistened in the sun's yawning rays were all too precious to discard with little care.

Thud.

His companion had faltered and fallen. A hiss of surprise escaped his generally dour and emotionless countenance as he saw his ally collapse upon the loose soil. Ares was swift to respond and attempted to assist Cyrus, but was rebuked by one of the guards as the other proceeded to investigate the Snivy's side with its foot. This was simply too much, and the Charmander's flame burned intensely, his rage exponentially increasing as violence befell his ill-fated comrade. He was ignorant to the fact that this had been a ruse, and maintained vehement, violent thoughts towards their escorts prior to receiving the wink from the snake. Clever boy.

The march continued as the sun began its own hike, and it soon had all but its lower quarter exposed from the concealing blankets of the horizon. Shimmering, splintering rays cast pink and orange colors upon the atmosphere, and the terrain about them changed from somewhat vegetated to barren and rugged. It seemed as if Ares recognized this location, and soon he came to realize that he had, indeed, been here prior. He knew exactly where to go from here, and yet it appeared that they were veering from the path that he understood. A gaze was cast towards Cyrus, and he evaluated the situation with a militaristic standpoint. Perhaps they could slip away under the cover of a thick cloud of smoke?

Just because it had been a farce didn't mean Cyrus' chest didn't sting terribly. It felt like something had lodged itself in him the wrong way, and now his uninjured side felt like it might bruise from the kick. All this had been worth it for the reward balled tightly in his hand. It was a ribbon identical to the one tied around his neck; a little dusty here and there, but the thread was strong and the craftsmanship was fine. His grip tightened around the treasure at a look from one of the guards, it was all he could do to keep from returning their hospitality, as one-sided a fight it would be. One could only take so much abuse... Maybe if they could...

His eyes met Ares's then, and he pursed his lip in thought. The Charmander was rash - a mon of action, and while that was to be admired it could very well get them killed right now. As much as he tried to push on, the Snivy was injured. Badly. He didn't have the strength left in him for another burst of speed. It was hard enough staying on his feet as it was! On his own, Ares could probably manage an escape; if Cyrus had been the heroic type he would have urged him to do so, but the grass snake quite liked his own life. He didn't think he'd survive if the guards got fed up and decided to take their frustrations out on him simply because he'd stayed behind. But what other choice did they have? Cyrus braced himself, preparing once again to do the impossible.

This was going to hurt.
