To Dream the Impossible Dream Empty
PostSubject: To Dream the Impossible Dream   To Dream the Impossible Dream EmptyWed Nov 06, 2013 4:30 am

Rain was an inconvenient thing. Though he was able to deal with it well enough, and "water off of a duck's back" wasn't entirely a thing of legend, but still, it was wet, and cold, and it meant that he was unable to practice in the manner to which he was accustomed. That, combined with the fact that he didn't know anyone in town, left the Farfetch'd rather more despondent than usual. Hopefully, there would come someone soon who he could help, someone he could serve, to show that his striking out on his own wasn't entirely meaningless.

He'd yet to achieve the true capabilities of those of legend, and it wasn't going to be any more possible to do unless he found those in need of a servant, someone to help and uplift. Still, it was better than just growing food back home. He would most certainly prove himself, and then his letters home wouldn't be in vain, for naught. He'd be able to do some great good, and avail himself of his calling in life.

But for now, he'd be content to just take shelter under this outdoor awning. Derring-do could wait, there was a need for creature comforts... even if this was never mentioned in the great books of legend. So, he stood there, and waited, and prepared. Someday, he'd find his calling, and hopefully, Grassveil Town would hold the secrets thereof.

Br-r-r-r-r... So cold, so wet!
The Skitty's teeth clicked against each other in a fast succession. Felicity Torva, a new explorer, scampered down the street with dripping fur. The red, velvet bow fixed over one of her ears drooped down, as soaked as a sponge under running water. The Skitty almost yelped in relief when she saw an outdoor awning to serve as a shelter against the pouring rain. Kittens and cold water certainly don't mix, and Feli was not an exception. The feline Pokemon ducked under the welcoming roof, escaping the hard downpour of rain.

The kitten shook out her fur and unfixed the bow over her ear. She carefully laid it on the ground to dry. Feli shivered, with the almost icy water beginning to soak into her skin. The Skitty didn't notice a Farfetch'd near her, under the same awning as she was, occupied with the task of drying her fur and waiting out the storm.

To Dream the Impossible Dream Empty
PostSubject: Re: To Dream the Impossible Dream   To Dream the Impossible Dream EmptyWed Nov 06, 2013 11:16 pm

Earlier...

Dex the Joltik was wandering the streets of Grassveil, the buildings on either side towering above the puny Pokemon. He looked around in awe; he hadn't been in this part of town before. The dark clouds above were ominous, but also rather comforting. They reminded him of the dark ceiling in the cave he called home. Dex didn't know what those clouds would bring, though.

Plip plip plip!

Dex felt cool drops of water dripping on his fur. He looked around in curiousity. Where was the water coming from? Was the sky ceiling leaking? That was it, he decided with a nod.

The sky began to "leak" faster, and Dex enjoyed it at first. It sounded familiar. Back at home he'd hear the sounds he was currently hearing while the cave ceiling had drips going through cracks. He'd sometimes play where the drips landed. It was fun! Still, the drips were coming down faster and faster. Dex's fuzzy fur was all wet now, and wet fur was heavy, and heavy fur meant slower movement! It was too much! He wanted to escape!

Dex scurried over to the side of the street, and found an awning in one of the buildings. He climbed up the wall and then waited. Mostly motionless, Dex watched the water fall from the sky ceiling. Now that he was out of it, it was really calming. The steady noise of drops hitting the ground was as consistent as one of his routines. All he needed now was something comfortable to hug...

Dex had been waiting out the storm for a while now. Soon he noticed two Pokemon approaching. He thought the Farfetch'd and Skitty were a Starly and Clefairy. The Joltik watched as they both came to rest from the falling water. He smiled and wondered if they had noticed him. In case he didn't, Dex said, "Hello? Are you here to escape from the leaking sky ceiling, too?"

Face-stabber was feeling rather neglected, (or so Luke assumed) considering the lack of practice they'd been able to have. And in this weather, sparring was absolutely out of the question. It was a shame, truly, to be kept in such a state of ill-repair, and to be kept from doing great deeds because of a little weather. Truly, the heroes of old never let a bit of rain get them down, but they also dealt with massive storms which were tests of endurance, not these trifling matters, and they only dealt with storms in case of emergency. Truly, it was inconvenient.

But not entirely inconvenient, hopefully! There was a Skitty approaching, one who looked like she needed shelter, but hopefully something else as well; if some way he could assist, make himself useful, he'd be most pleased! The chances of that were slim, admittedly, and there was always the issue of not actually knowing where anything was, but those were all minor details compared to the main issue: doing right. And so, as he straightened himself just a bit to prepare a grand speech offering his service, precisely at that moment, someone behind him spoke up, causing him to jump a bit.... right back out from under the shade of the awning, and into the rain. "Wha? Who's--"

The startled cry was hushed as soon as he saw the bug pokemon, and he felt more than a little ashamed to have reacted to something so small, but it couldn't be helped. Now he was wet again, and his first impression with either of them as potential pokemon in distress was severely diminished; he might have been quick to judge, but in matters concerning himself, he felt it justified.

"Uwah!" Feli jolted, surprised by the sudden voice somewhere near her. She turned around, with her fur slightly on an end, to see a Joltik awaiting an answer to what sounded like a question. A Pokemon slipped out into the rain from under the awning. The Skitty startled again, having failed to notice the duck Pokemon beside her while she was occupied with the task of drying her fur and bow. The feline thought that she had heard a small cry from the Farfetch'd, but she dismissed it as a part of her imagination, something she extracted from her own yelp.

The Skitty searched her mind for what the little bug Pokemon had said. Something about a leak... Feli looked up, expecting to see a hole in the awning, but there was none. She didn't see any leaks under the narrow shelter. Maybe that's not what the Joltik had meant. "I-I... E-Excuse me, but I-I haven't quite h-heard what you had s-said..." Feli stuttered, in the presence of these two strangers.

To Dream the Impossible Dream Empty
PostSubject: Re: To Dream the Impossible Dream   To Dream the Impossible Dream EmptySat Nov 09, 2013 2:27 am

Dex chuckled at the two Pokemon's reactions, his laughs coming out Why was everyone freaking out about him? He was normal, right? He still smiled but hoped these reactions would stop. He had never been told he was scary... though he had never been told much of anything by his mother, either. Dex still considered himself pretty normal. Back home there was a lot of his kind! Many were even his siblings!

...Thinking about his family made the tiny Pokemon want a hug. The Starly seemed to hold a green plant. Dex decided to call it a "Hugging Stalk", as it seemed like a good thing for him to embrace. He began crawling up the wall and to the underside of the awning. There, he began to lower himself down in front of the Hugging Stalk.

As he lowered himself, Dex repeated what he had first asked, louder: "I said, 'Are you here to escape the leaking sky ceiling, too?' By the way, I'm Dex!" By that time, the tiny Electric type was directly in front of the bird's Hugging Stalk. He came in for the kill, swinging in to hug the stick. He didn't care how weird he looked doing so; he was lovesick.

Feli relaxed, watching in amusement as the tiny Joltik groped the stick. The Skitty scolded herself for letting herself be frightened over nothing. I'm an explorer... I know better! She shivered in the cold of the storm, and with the excitement of being in a newly-formed exploration team. Feli went over the question that Dex had asked. The sky ceiling... Instinctively, Feli looked up at the narrow roof over her head again and scanned it for leaks. Nothing. Then, with a jolt, the kitten Pokemon finally realized that the Joltik was asking about the storm.

"O-Oh! Well, er, a-actually, yes... I-I'm here to escape the... S-Sky ceiling?" What a strange way to describe a storm, Feli mused, But, it does make sense... Sky ceiling... I like that word. Sounds... Poetic. Feli glanced back at the stick and the Joltik. "Err, what a-are you doing?"
